I was disappointed at first, but this COULD be good, if done right. Good luck!

I think it’s going to be awesome! Secret Rings was really great, and the Arthurian World can lead to some sweet level design and themes, a very unique gaming experience could be had from this.

This is just tragic. Sega, we DO-NOT want any more spin-offs on the gameplay. We just want a straight “go fast and win” Sonic game. Sonic Unleashed is closer, but then the whole irrereverant were-hog thing was revealed. I know this blog has little control; I know the supervisors of this blog project have little control; I know that the SoA execs have little control. But please, at least try to be honest with us. Only candy-eating 5 year olds look at this game and totally like it.

I think it’s great when the fans voice their opinions on a game, and I welcome discussion on the new releases and information, both on the blog and our forums. While you or I may not have much sway individually on what comes out, we as a group are a force to be reckoned with. Constructive feedback, rather than simple comments, goes a long way. Often to higher ups within the company and into decisions about games we make in the future.
Also, I still really enjoy candy, so I’m not exactly sure why 5 year olds get to have all the fun when it comes to the sugary sweet goodness.

Here is my constructive feedback.
Sonic Unleashed was so close to being an awesome Sonic game it hurts, the Sonic Engine is clearly an awesome engine shame about the game… First of all Sonic is moving a bit to fast and the game seems to suffer from a bit of hold forward to win… Where is the platforming? Sonic Team SERIOUSLY needs to go back and play Sonic 2… That game had speed but it also had well rounded levels with both speedy bits AND platforming and you never felt like you were onrails. Also please PLEASE PLEASE!! STOP WITH THE GOD AWFUL ROCK MUSIC THEME TUNES! I don’t even want to talk about how bad the werehog levels look… Who came up with that nonsense? dubble the effort could have been put into making the Sonic levels better instead of that nonsense.
Sonic Chronicles looks slow and unsonicy… Not to mention Sonic isnt SUPPOSED to have a deep storyline the game should have been like the Mario RPG, a comedy but instead it takes its self to seriously.
Sonic and the… dark knight So far I am not very happy… Secret Rings was a pretty average game I don’t see why it should have a sequal not to mention with a sword? really? Sonic? with a sword? a weapon? didnt Sega say after the disgrace that was Shadow that Sonic would never have a weapon? another lie then?
I’m bewildered as to how Sonic Team can be so freaking clueless about how to go about making a Sonic game people want…
- Just Sonic Playable, no crappy friends,
- PLATFORMING AS WELL AS SPEED,
- Good old school lyricless music,
- Multiple paths,
- 2D/3D mix with long portions of each,
- Simple Sonic vs Robotnik storyline again,
- ONE HIT KILL ON ALL ENEMIES!
- Creative bosses.

No, that’s a game that YOU want. Sonic Team can’t only please you. You can’t speak for the rest of the fans out there. The fanbase is so divine that even if Sonic Team make a game that the fans wants, there’ll always going to be another half of fans who will hate it. Like some fans would rather have a Sonic Adventure 3 then a rehash.
Like there are people who wants to play as other characters besides Sonic. Like me, I perfer to play as Knuckles and Tails better. There’s people who enjoys Crush 40 and all the other Sonic tunes with lyrics in it. There’s fans who wants Shadow to appear in every Sonic game. I don’t think nowadays they can make simple stories like Sonic VS Eggman again they have to build a plot to it. You see what I’m saying?

You’re right. They only wanted to make Sonic playable in Sonic Unleashed.I Sonic and the Black Knight, they were going to make Knuckles and Shadow playable, but I just don’t get it.Why would Sonic have a weapon? He should be like a weapon himself.

I loved the Sonic Unleashed trailers.I want to get my hands on that game. And for Sonic and the Black Knight,Once I save up for a Wii,I’ll get it to see if it’s another game that sucks like Sonic06,or it’ll be awesome.I want to get Sonic Unleashed on the 360.

I think Sonic Unleashed and Sonic and the Black Knight will both be great games, Unleashed is toughing on the genesis era by doing the 2-D/3-D mix, givings us more platforming and re-introducing the multiple paths in levels and the werehog thing will just add variety. I’m particularily interested to see how the will pull off the controls for the night time levels onthe wii. Also, Sonic and the Black Knight could be an interesting concept that may or may not work. It all comes down to whether or not Sonic Team takes their time to finish the game and make it relatively glitch free.

Secret Rings, the Sonic Rush games, Sonic Advance etc all said hello. They’re basically just ‘watch Sonic go really fast’ type Sonic games. And Sonic Unleashed is alot like that, dispite the werehog bit but atleast werehog has some platforming and not all ‘watch Sonic go really fast and nothing else’.

thats what i like about the warehog thing. instead of just holding right and watch sonic go, you get to controll him and move him around and beat the mess out of the enimies. i like how in the black knight, you get to use your sword without slowing down so that you can eather take your time (like i would do
) or you can just hack and slash your way to the finish line. im not dissing the other sonic games. im just saying that change can be good. just give it a chance

Yes, that’s what made the old Sonic games so great. It wasn’t speed or platforming by themselves it was the right combination of both. I think if the developers can return to that formula it will re-establish Sonic as a gaming icon and not just something nostalgic for us long time fans.

Yes, exactly Matt. That’s why I don’t understand why people say that Sonic games should focus more on speed. To me just watching Sonic run is boring. There’s no challenge. Look at the Genesis titles, they’re much slower paced cause there’s alot of platforming. Yes the older games has speed but there are many times where the games forces you to slow down or stop for enemies, traps, obstacles, bottomless pits, etc. But it seems like today if a Sonic game has platforming then fans will complain that it’s too slow. :\
I’m not saying this game will be bad or anything, it just irks me when ppl say that Sonic games should just run fast and win. The older titles wasn’t all about that.

I guess I am too old for this series. The point is that Sonic used to be relevant to all ages, as the gameplay more than made up for a lack of a clear story or what naive players would call lack of “variety”. I enjoyed the Adventure series games as they could be viewed as an innovation of form from every viewpoint. However, the programming talent has not kept up with the industry, and even if one ignores the now-dated formula of the Adventure series, any person with a semblance of programming understanding can see the laziness of Sonic Team. In Sonic 06, the artistic talent was amazing, but overshadowed by poor execution, not to mention plain awkward storytelling. I was amazed to see such a sophmoric attempt at implementing a good game engine; er go, having an entire level loaded and re-rendered to have 2 lines of dialogue on screen. Inexcusable. I want to address everyones’ points that have been made because I feel they are misguided, but I don’t have the patience to argue with those who lack an objective viewpoint. Its true fans have different tastes and can be finnicky, but I think everyone can benifit for having Sonic return to a form where he is defined by timeless gameplay, not gimmicky (and laughable) elements (I don’t seem to recall any fable talking of were-wolfery and stretch-o arms).
P.S. I am far from cynical in the scope of fandom. http://www.sonic-cult.org is a good example of fans just giving up on the franchise. And also, sorry if this seems conceited, if anyone affiliated with Sega would want to get my full word on the matter in this franchise, I feel I can adequately represent a large userbase of gamers with my opinions. I would love to help work on getting Sonic on the right track. I’m just saddened the community that used to follow this franchise so dearly has all but evaporated.

Well… sonic chronicles looks good, it will give some good story to sonic, im tired of its stories to feel for 5 year old kids, sonic unleashed will give some great gameplay like the clasic games, wich is great, i only HATE the idea of the werewolf, they should have putted other characters instead of that freaky thing
and for the black knight… ok well done it would be a good game, but its just to weird to se sonic with a sword, i think its wrong… man i just want another game as good as sonic adventure 2! please!!

better to release it later than a crappy game! THATS IMPORTANT! TAKE YOUR TIME PLEASE!
Sonic Unleashed looks awesome to me 8D Chronicles too.
This tittle worries me a little ’cause I don’t know how they will put together speed and sword combat >_>
only time can say, maybe with more information we will be able to make an opinion, just as it happened to me with Unleashed, at first was ‘O_o WTF is this game, they want to ruin Sonic series!!!! D:<’
but with more information, trailers, screenshots, etc. I change of opinion, and now I CAN’T WAIT!!!! x3
I agree with Daniel, Matt, Sonicfan, Joshua Minor, ShenMaster777 and GustGO
well good luck with the game

I like the new upcoming Sonic games, like “Sonic Unleashed.” “Sonic and the Black Knight” looks good too! I agree with the other gamers, Sega should take their time with the games, because we don’t want a crappy story line.

How can you know if a game is good or not when it hasn’t even come out yet? Maybe now people automatically think a game is bad if it has “Sonic” in the title, especially after the Sonic Next-gen failure. It’s a shame, really. Poor Sonic hasn’t been getting the respect he deserves. Maybe the reason Sonic games have been getting poor reviews lately is because the fanbase is getting more diverse. Now, Sega has to appeal not only to the kids, but to adults who grew up with Sonic since the beginning. That’s why Sonic Heroes was criticized by the older fans for being too “kiddy”, and Shadow the Hedgehog was considered too violent and mature for the younger fans. Not to mention Sonic has built up a reputation, especially with great games like Sonic 2 and the Sonic Adventure Series. After getting used to Sonic games being this good, it’s getting harder and harder for a Sonic game to be considered “good enough” because those games caused Sonic fans to expect more and more out of Sega. Perhaps Sonic’s success is also his downfall. To revive the series, Sega has to make a Sonic game that will appeal to many different types of fans, and that’s getting harder and harder to do. That’s all there is to it.

It’s not the story I’m worried about. I hope they take their time to develop solid and fun gameplay, adequate visuals, and to keep the game from having any major glitches.

I just picked up this issue of Nintendo Power and I am relieved. The game combines classic Sonic speed with swordplay. Most of the time you can just slash down your enimies without slowing down. However, some stronger enemies will require you to slow down and engage in some more advanced sword play i.e. stab, parry, slash e.c.t. You control Sonic with the control stick and swing the sword with the nunchuck. The skill system from Secret Rings returns but the developers say the have improved it. The missions will also have many multiple paths and the camera will switch from 3D to 2D at points in the game like in Unleashed. It will feature the mission structure from the first game but it won’t be as tedious. Knucles and Shadow and maybe some more characters will be playable but this is TOTALY OPTIONAL!! (crowd cheers) They also hint at some pretty eepic boss fights. Judging from the screen shots, it looks like the visuals are slightly better than they were in the first game, if you haven’t already I recommend you pick this magazine up just to see them. The developers are aware of what went right and what went wrong wtih the pevious game they also say that they plan to continue development until they are confident it is a good game.
There is much more info in the issue of Nintendo Power and I realize most of you probably know a lot of the things I said already, but I just thought I’d throw it out there for those that didn’t.

Completely agree with ‘Sonikku’ you can´t please everybody, there is ALWAYS someone who doesn’t like something, I think one important point is to decide which kind of fans will be better to focus?, because there are more sonic fans day by day. personally, I think young fans, because they are the future, like teenagers, well I think that, I don’t know what others think about my opinion, maybe considering which of them have more fans is the answer, no?
*note: excuse my grammar please, English is my 2nd language

Y’know, there isn’t one Sonic game to date that I disliked. There may have been certain features or mechanics in the games that I didn’t like, but never have I not liked an entire Sonic game. Many people complained about camera angle issues in previous Sonic games, but I have yet to even notice them. I just finished Sonic The Hedgehog for 360, since I just got a 360 for my birthday, and to be honest, I loved the game and the storyline. The only things that bothered me about the game were a few game mechanics that were present in Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2, but absent from this game. When Sonic is running, jumping makes him slow down, which got kinda annoying sometimes. If you jump, while running, even if you stop tilting the analog stick, Sonic keeps moving forward, so you might have to turn around or something to avoid falling off a ledge. In the few areas that Knuckles is playable, enemies don’t respond to his combo attacks, they only respond to the first punch. Sorry, I’m talking about Sonic ’06 on a Sonic and The Black Knight page. Although the idea of Sonic using any sort of weapon other than his blue, razor sharp quills may not seem good, I actually like it. It fits into the story of the game, a sequel to Sonic and the Secret Rings. He’s in an old world where knights travel on horseback and slay dragons with their mighty swords, why not let him use a sword as well? I couldn’t possibly imagine Sonic using a homing attack at an enemy equipped with a large, sharp blade. He’d just get sliced in half. I think Shadow would be an expert swordsman, given his character. He’d be more like a Black Knight than any one else. I was thinking of how Eggman, Tails, and Knuckles would fit into the Arthurian story, as they did in Sonic and the Secret Rings. I was thinking that Tails would be someone like.. a wizard or something, haha. Anyway, do well on this game, guys.
