Virtua Tennis 2009 to be the first 3rd party Wii game with Motion Plus!In a PR Blast that went out today, it was officially announced that Virtua Tennis 2009 will be compatible with Wii Motion Plus! The info had been rumored for months – and even semi-leaked – but now the news is out, and it also means something else that will be big for the game: Virtua Tennis 2009 will be the first third party game released on the Wii to support Motion Plus!
I think we’re all pretty stoked to finally be able to announce this, as Motion Plus +VT has been in the works for many months, and the Wii version of the game will be able to really show off the capabilities that it can offer. (Of course, there’s also just something cool about knowing that Virtua Tennis is going to be among the first games ever to support it.)
Speaking of Virtua Tennis, I happen to have some of the SEGA/Virtua Tennis branded Tennis Balls that were given out to raffle winners at last weekend’s Cherry Blossom festival. If there are enough VT fans reading, I’ll see about hooking you guys up with them.

It’s real cool that Virtua Tennis will be the first game to support Wii Motion Plus. Not a fan of any sports game here so you can skip me with the tennis balls, it’s better if they go to big fan of the game ^_^ Only sports game I played was SEGA Superstars LOL

I am a pretty serious tennis player IRL these days. However the way I got into tennis is a little unorthodox.
When I was younger I always considered tennis to be a boring game both to play, or to watch. Then on a whim, back in the year 2000, I picked up Virtua Tennis for the Dreamcast. Hours turned into days and weeks and I was quickly becoming very advanced at Virtua Tennis.
Then one day when flipping through the channels I stopped on an actual tennis match. “oh cool, tennis!”, I thought. As I watched I realized that they were using all of the same strategies that I had developed in Virtua Tennis.
The obvious next step was to actually pick up a racquet and start playing! So now, 8 years later, I am still big into tennis, play every week, have been to the past two US Opens, and watch tennis on tv whenever it is on.
I continued on to play VT2, and VT3, but neither of them ever recaptured the magic of the first one. Very excited about VT09 with the motion plus though!

I’ve got this game pre-ordered, along with a MotionPlus. If it plays as well as it sounds like it should, Woo-hoo!
Any free tennis balls left?

This looks great.. One feedback to the guys that built the game though.. Wimbledon only allows white clothing.. To a tennis fanatic as myself, it looks wrong to see Federer and Nadal run around at Wimbledon playing in Navy and Green.. Should be an easy thing to fix though..

Virtua Tennis is good game, but doesn’t give you the full the ATP, WTA tennis and Grand Slams tennis experience. If SEGA plans to make another Virtua Tennis game there’s going to have to make some changes. They going to have to better stadium designs that actually look like the real courts on the tour. Another thing is that their character designs and rosters need to be improved. You guys included Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, and Roddick for the men and V.Williams, Sharapova, Ivanovic, and Kuznetsova for the women. The rest of the players are not in the top 10 or even 20.(maybe James Blake). Where’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Juan Martin Del Potro, and Gael Monfils on the men’s roster? What about Dinara Safina, Jelena Jankovic, Elena Dementieva, and even SERENA WILLIAMS? If you plan to use the tennis legends again, you need to to have more than four of them. I suggest the good tennis legends such as McEnroe, Borg, Sampras, Aggassi, Stephy Graph, Rod Laver, Arthur Ashe and Navratilova(which was in the game). The stadiums are not realistic enough to the Grand Slams or on the tour in the game. As a fan of Virtua Tennis and I want to have to full tennis experience when playing this game. What about using some the old courts before the Open Era(in black and white I might add)in a special tournment? The crowds in the stadium are better and the addition of the Davis cup tournment is a tremondous boost to the franchise. Also the soundtracks for the game need to sound better. I agree with Magnus on Wimbledon, have all the players wear white clothes in the tournment. Virtua Tennis needs to have the Grand Slams(Australlian Open, U.S. Open, French Open, and Wimbledon) and the other tour tournment matches between them in the game. Virtua Tennis has the potential to be the best tennis game on the market. One thing about this game that hasn’t changed over the years is that the gameplay and mini-games are still the best one out of all the tennis game. I hope these changes will be approved in the next tennis game.
