Sonic the Hedgehog on iPhone!Having the original Sonic the Hedgehog on iPhone is sweet nostalgia in your pocket. From the moment I played the game on my phone, I haven’t been able to put it down – I’ve been hooked. I’m pretty much transported back to my parent’s TV, trading turns with my sister, playing over and over to get each extra life. I have such good memories of playing the original Sonic and I’m positive I’m not alone this feeling; it’s just great to play and enjoy this classic on the go all over again. Sonic the Hedgehog on iPhone has also reminded me of how out of practice I am with the original release. I used to be quite good, had most of the levels memorized, and could grab every emerald with ease. I’m almost there, but playing and replaying has me getting closer to my target skill level. Having spent some time with the game, it’s really fun to revisit all the old favorite stages, remember the hidden areas, and get back into the rhythm of moving through the levels. Everything is as it should be, the graphics are great and the controls are top notch, all very smooth. I am a little sad the level select code wasn’t added, but aside from this one omission, the game is pretty much exactly as I remembered it. Sonic the Hedgehog is available on the iPhone for $4.99 and can be bought, played, and enjoyed immediately! If you like what you see, tell us about it here or across our new forums!

Glad to see Sonic on the iPhone/iPod Touch finally! Though there are frame rate and sound issues, plus the level select code not working, the game itself is still one of the best Sonic games out there. I hope to see more Sonic games on the iPhone in the future!

Maybe instead of releasing the fist sonic game on any piece of hardware that will take you, porting it and advertising it you could put some actual effort into making a NEW sonic game that doesn’t suck or come out half finished?

Cool the 1st Sonic game from SEGA for Mega Drive/Genesis on i-Phone… Also if this isn’t bad on i-Phone, I prefer it on the 16bit classic console! Anyway nice idea^^ xD

Sega apparently can’t properly port it’s own games.. The game is choppy in full screen. I got all excited when I saw this in the appstore but was disappointed after playing it. The controls aren’t that good as well. Not worth $5.99.
When I purchase a game from a major developer (SEGA) I expect something close to perfection. This thing feels like it was ported by 2 amateurs who had nothing better to do. Heck, at least in that case it would be free.

Really the level select code is implemented, but it is imposible to activate. If you press the A button an the direction pad before the sega logo apear you can do the code and the sound ring, but you can’t press start…

I can’t wait until they make Sonic 2. I know they will too, because they named the app “Sonic 1″ and the game’s original name is called “Sonic the Hedgehog” because 2 or 3 weren’t out yet, and if they weren’t going to make the others, why name it “Sonic 1″

If anyone cares, you only press up, down, left, right for level select. You do not press A.

YES, there is level select. At the title screen, just tap to pull up the menu. Then, press up, down, left, right,on the Dpad. You can’t se it but it works. Then, select “new game”. and the level select screen will appear!
