Blast Processing Meets MoonwalkingThose of you younguns who only remember the past 20 years of Michael Jackson’s life might forget that for roughly a decade, from Off the Wall and Thriller to Bad and Dangerous, Jackson was just about the most entertaining person on the planet. He worked with some of the best producers of his era and made mind-bogglingly weird/unique/creative music videos. Oh, and he also teamed up with SEGA in 1990 to make several versions of the game Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker. By far the coolest feature of these games was their version of the “smart bomb” mechanic, where you can press a button to eliminate all the enemies on the screen. Only instead of just dropping a bomb or clearing the screen of baddies, Michael Jackson dances everyone into synchronized exhaustion. Enjoy these nuggets of retro awesomeness. Genesis/Mega Drive version:
Arcade version:
And as a special bonus — just in case Michael Jackson turning into a giant robot that shoots lasers seemed too normal for you — enjoy this explanation-defying clip of the music/dancing game Space Channel 5 from the Dreamcast.

I played the last part of Space Channel 5 at least six or so times just so I could save Space Michael.

Would absolutely love it if you could release Moonwalker on XBLA. I no longer have a copy, and really want to play it again.
Michael will be very much missed!

Brings back a lot of memories…
By the way the box art for MJ’s Moonwalker is one of the best I’ve seen to this date.

In light of recent events ie. Michael Jackson’s (The King Of Pop) passing on………Sega should re-release this game !! I’m sure ALOT of fans would love to relive the day when they first played this game……I have such fond memories of it.Maybe even a WiiWare download ??
SEGA Are you listening ?????????????????

I am thinking Sega may create a new MJ’s Moonwalk 2009 Edition on the Wii Console. In case we can “moonwalk” on a sensor (similar to the Wii Fit), that would be very great!

I have the game for my Sega Megadrive and played it recently, i had a great laugh with a friend because of all the really funky moves you could perform in it. Some things also makes NO sense at all, for example the small monkey that sits on your head everytime you complete a leve!?

SEGA,
I came across a blog by Juheb Miah Chowdhury shortly after Michael’s untimely passing back in 2009 about how SEGA should attempt to remake “Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker” for the fans. After reading the suggestions given by Chowdhury and being the strong Michael Jackson fan that I am, I decided to share what was said with a few of my revision included.
The remake could be the classic Genesis/Mega Drive version with a few new twists (modern-day graphics, sound effects, realistic character A.I., etc.) or create an entirely new game with never-before-seen stages. The creative team could take the Sonic 4 approach by having three acts and a boss level while using themes from Michael’s short films to give it that genuine MJ touch.
Neverland Invasion – “Leave Me Alone”
The Streets – “Beat It”
Subway – “Bad”
Club 30s – “Smooth Criminal”
Graveyard – “Thriller”
Pyramids – “Remember the Time”
Grand Finale – “They Don’t Care About Us”
After seeing what Ubisoft was able to accomplish with “Michael Jackson: The Experience”, I believe you guys could pull this off. I’m sure the gamers and MJ fans would greatly appreciate it.
Take care and God bless,
Chris
