Columns Deluxe: Free for July 4th Weekend!Looking for something to help you get through those long family barbecues or to pass the time while you wait for the fireworks to start? You’re in luck — we’re giving away Columns Deluxe for FREE on the iTunes Store (iTunes Store link) for your iPhone or iPod Touch for the 4th of July weekend only! Not only do you get Columns, but you also get Puyo POP! It’s two addicting puzzle games in one app. You can learn more about Columns Deluxe, or you can just grab it from the iTunes Store for free. It’s free for this weekend ONLY, so grab it while you can. If it’s not marked as free yet, try back in a bit. My sources tell me they are going to change the price by the end of the day today, and it will be free all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Happy puzzling, and Happy July 4th from SEGA!

Free? It says $1.99 at iTunes. Is this some kind of scam? Run links all over the internet advertising something as free, and then people obliviously click to download as $1.99 is charged to their accounts? Not good.

I tried the link but it shows the app as $1.99 not FREE.

We’re are looking into why the price has not been reset, but the plan is still to have it free. Just have patience while the blips and bloops are sorted out.

seems like a very poorly orchestrated promotion. seriously, how do you promote the heck out of “free” offering all over the web and not be 100% certain that it is IN FACT free. “Have patience” is an interesting strategy that is likely to do more to negatively impact the brand image than any goodwill that could have been generated by the “free” offer.
Come on, Sega Marketers, this is pretty lousy follow-through.
note: as of 2:12pm PST on Friday, July 3rd the game was still listed as $1.99 on iTunes

Guys… chill out… I’m sure they’ll get it fixed soon. After all, it’s a LONG weekend! Personally, I think it’ll be pretty rad to get a free copy of this!

Hmm…14:39 CST on July 3rd and it’s still priced at $1.99. If this does go free, it most likely will happen on the 4th. Just guessing though..

It looks like the app is free if you open itunes, search for Sega, and click the “Get App.” button. It still seems to show up as 1.99 in individual listings, but it is free in the overview.
It may be free in individual listings, but it shows up at 1.99 for me there. I haven’t been brave enough to just buy it to find out if it charges.
Despite the technical difficulties, thanks for the free Puyo Puyo, Sega!

I’m still hesitant to download it. On my iphone, when I’m in the app store, when I search for Columns it says free… until I go to the app’s page, then it still says $1.99. Which is it?

Sorry to those who were looking on iTunes and found that it was not free. I’m not sure what happened with this, but it is free now. It was absolutely NOT our intention to force people to buy the game or trick anyone into buying the app. It was supposed to be marked free earlier, and for some reason it wasn’t. But is is free now, and will be all weekend long. Enjoy!

I “purchased” it (thank you) and was loving it, however there was an update today. I updated it and now it crashes without playing. !? What happened?
