Bayonetta release date confirmed for the US!
As of this morning, we’ve officially confirmed a new release date for Bayonetta here in the western market. The game will be arriving in January 2010 – and SEGA West’s new COO and President Mike Hayes commented on the reasons.
Personally I’m quite behind the move, as I remember what happened to another excellent game called Valkyria Chronicles that was overshadowed at launch because of the massive slew of games that hit each fall. What are your opinions? Would you have rather seen the game ship earlier, or do you agree with the reasons behind the move?

Well I think it is great placement. It will give Alpha Protocol plenty of breathing room and by releasing in January I can get both Bayonetta and Sands if Destruction.

I’m glad Sega is waking up about this, never release new IPs in the OCT-DEC time period thats when all the over hyped stuff comes out and it gets lost… Its a shame you had to learn the hard way but at least you finally learnt it!
Don’t make the mistake again please!!

I can’t wait to get my hands on this title. I think it is a smart move to space this title out from some of the sequel “Juggernauts.” In a perfect world, a great game finds its audience no matter what…and hopefully that will happen for Valkyria Chronicles.

I’m disappointed. I’m really looking forward to this game and this means we’ll have to wait that much longer. The announcement doesn’t make it sound like the extra time was needed to add extra polish or features to the game – it was purely a marketing a decision. Oh well, I guess all we can do is wait…

This is a bad move on the sales front. Bayonetta will not sell tremendously well no matter when it ships. It is a small-scale title developed by the man responsible for Devil May Cry – but it has a female lead and that is not something most gamers will care about. It isn’t going to grab everyone and make them buy it whenever it releases, so pushing it back only disheartens those who would actually have bought it in October.
SEGA, move it back to October – it’s selling potential is going to be the same no matter when it comes out.
