Sega at San Diego Comic-con Day 1Here we are, sunny San Diego for Comic-con! The weather is nice and we are getting accustomed to our home away from home for the next five days. So what have we done today? Well, we had a chance to go through the convention hall, see a bit of the area, do some fun out of office emails via phones and get ready for the main event this week! The show officially kicks off tomorrow with the doors opening at 9 am, but tonight there was a preview night, a pre-show chance to check out some special unveilings and get your hands on some nice gear from the floor. Sega was there in force with the full community team (woo) and everyone who will be manning the booth during the next four days. This is my first Comic-con, I missed out on the trek to New York earlier in the year. I’ve done one smaller fan focused convention, but this is nothing like I’ve ever seen. The closest I know is E3, which is a beast in and of itself, but Comic-con is a consumer show with massive crowds, or so I’m told. Looking at preview night, I was a bit taken aback by the masses of people walking through the space. Overheard by too many people to count: “This is the busiest Preview Night I’ve ever seen.” I’m anticipating the next few days to be absolutely slammed, and can’t wait to see it! As you can see from the photos posted, the Sega Booth is equipped with four playable games including, Planet 51, Bleach: The 3rd Phantom, Bayonetta, and Iron Man 2. Fun stuff! Look out for some upcoming blogs about a few of those tonight, we are all hitting the laptops and doing some posts about the stuff we saw.

Sega needs to make a SERIOUS comeback. Drop the new Sonic and go back to your roots. Only then can you achieve greatness again.

Wow Salamahn. You know, there are people out there who actually LIKE the new Sonic games. One of them being me. The world is moving forward, and you should too. Stop complaining about the new Sonic games, and go play them and enjoy them, like they were meant to be. Not ridiculed by older fans who wish for days past.
Anyway, back on topic…I wish I could be there! I would love to just stand in front of the All-Stars Racing screen and talk about how much I can’t wait for it. XD

I see myself as Kage, but I can’t believe my headband is all the way above my head.

Why was AvP NOT at Comic Con? Seriously AvP started as a comic series, who thought it would be better to show freakin’ Planet 51?… really?… REALLY?

Just because YOU don’t like Planet 51 doesn’t mean that other people don’t. The reasons are varied and complicated, but yes, it was the right choice.

Total agreed Salamahn…
I hope Sega treat Sonic with more respect and less business

Kellie I’ll get back to you when the reviews come in for AvP and Planet 51.
You’re preaching to Sega fans here, not the kids that will enjoy movie games… What do you expect.

No Salamahn, I don’t think Sega should drop the new Sonic. What they SHOULD do is give Sonic a much needed break and take more time with their games. But dropping their flagship character enitirely isn’t going to help Sega.

Salamahn: Completely rude and totally off-topic. Realize that if that they did that, there would be an entire hoarde of fans that don’t mind the 3D games that would be completely irate, and that would NOT be good for business. If the fanbase can’t make its mind up on what direction it wants the series to take, why the heck should SEGA listen? They’re better off just doing what they want, at least it still sells. And why the heck is it that improving Sonic’s status is the ONLY way to improve SEGA’s cred, eh? They’ve been on a roll with plenty of high quality games that DON’T involve Sonic; you should play them sometime.
sonicfan has a point, either a hiatus, or giving Sonic games a decent amount of development time.

Sega’s roots come from an arcade style of play. This was the image to push. But when people think SEGA today, they think washed up, has been, afterthought. As I said, “Sega needs to make a SERIOUS comeback. Drop the new Sonic and go back to your roots. Only then can you achieve greatness again.” I mean what I say and I say what I mean. Take it or leave it. Besides, those of you who didn’t agree with that probably WANTED to see SEGA fail in the first place.
