Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue is Playable in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing
He shall appear from a far eastern land across the sea, a young man who has yet to know his potential… And he’ll be driving a badass motorcycle.
Ryo Hazuki, star of the Shenmue series returns in his first playable appearance since Shenmue 2 to join the ranks of the SEGA All-Stars as part of Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing. Ryo, protagonist of the Shenmue series and one of the most requested SEGA characters to make an appearance in All-Stars Racing, will be riding his borrowed motorcycle around classic SEGA themed race tracks. And when a motorcycle just can’t cut it, Ryo unleashes his All-Star move and is able to swap vehicles to his iconic forklift truck to charge and barge opponents out of the way!
The Shenmue series, the story of a son’s quest for vengeance, began life in 1999 as the killer-app for the SEGA Dreamcast. Originally developed by the legendary Yu Suzuki for SEGA, Ryo has yet to gain his revenge but he’s certainly no stranger to motorcycle racing and is sure to make a formidable adversary for Sonic, AiAi, Dr. Eggman and the other All-Stars. Enough talk… I know you’re dying to see the trailer, so here it is: 
Thanks to everyone who played along with our clue reveal game on our forums, Facebook, and Twitter. The correct phrase is OBJECTS IN REAR VIEW DRAGON MIRROR MAY APPEAR CLOSER IN REALITY. This is a play on words between a car’s rear-view mirror and the dragon mirror in Shenmue. Congratulations go to Ryan/Sharky (aka Mulberry Tweedcork on our forums) who was the first one to figure it out! He did it within the first week, taking many of us working on the project by surprise. We’ll just have to make it lots harder next time!
We saw lots of comments on the internet about what people would do if Ryo was in the game. Scream, cry, buy the game day one, etc were all popular sentiments. But the most interesting one came from CVG.
All I can say is…. we’re waiting.

i have been a sega fan since the master system. And sega is definitly coming back. Sega you need to know that his does so much good to me. As a sega fan this means so much to see sega doing well.
Maybe ever in the future we can fully support you guys again on a new console. No more ps or 360 or wii

Awesome to see Ryo getting some time in the lime light again, now if only Shenmue came back!!! nudge nudge!
Also I’m glad you mentioned that CVG article because that was one of the worst articles I’ve read in ages, horrible! What happened to reviewing a game on its own merrits. The guy who wrote it didn’t even give the game a chance just wrote it off as a bad version of Mario Kart.
The day you go into an article with any form of bias is the day you have failed as a videogame critic.

Question @ Sega, is the player model a direct port from the Dreamcast version or was Ryo remodeled? Either way it looks awesome! I love shenmue and I cant wait for the 3rd one!

If I saw these 6 franchises in this game, on top of the superior cast of already-announced characters…

Close to tears… Really! This is fantastic, to see Ryo in some form atleast!
Shenmue and Shenmue 2 were the best games ever made, truly awe-inspiring and technically brilliant; story, characters, score… It had it all!
Just to see Ryo again has reminded me of the SEGA we all used to love.
I just hope Ryo gets the closure he deserves with Shenmue 3 in the not too distant future.

This shows Sega still remembers Shenmue. Which is a good thing and honestly they just blew their sales up a good percentage because im buying this just for Ryo Hazuki. Hopefully this means Shenmue 3. I am curious to see how Ryo will look on the next gen systems. Cmon sega you can do it. You made sonic the hedgehog 4, bought yakuza 3 to the states, and this. Trust me you will be that gem like you were before with Shenmuei, just this time, market it for all systems. I might buy it for all systems. This makes me really happy though, been depressed for awhile. Cried when i saw Ryo HAzuki back, it bought back great memories when I was young. This is something you have to realize Sega your games impacted our lives and left imprints, and they make us emotional. Be good again, this is a great start. If Shenmue 3 doesn’t come…Sega at least has tried, show us you are. But nothing is impossible. Look at all the games copying shenmue…take a hint sega. You were and will continue being the leading developers again.
