Sonic Classic Collection for Nintendo DS AnnouncedFor the first time ever, the original games from the early days of Sonic the Hedgehog will be coming to the Nintendo DS. Sonic Classic Collection will be available in Spring 2010, and includes Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Sonic & Knuckles. The Sonic Classic Collection will offer a new save feature, a first for Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, as well as an unlockable video recounting the history of Sonic, offering gamers an in-depth look at the speedy hedgehog. “The original Sonic the Hedgehog games were the start of a pop culture phenomenon that extended beyond just the video game world,” commented Sean Ratcliffe, Vice-President of Marketing for SEGA of America. “The Sonic Classic Collection will introduce a whole new generation of gamers to this beloved Hedgehog and take them back to his humble beginnings.”

Jesus, Sega…How many times are you gonna re-release these early 90s games out? Just leave it alone.

Awesome, but i’ve already got a Sega Master System emulator on my DS with all the Sonic games! And of course i have all the original games for my SMS, which i still play a lot on. (I have been trying to make a speedrun of Fantasy Zone lately hehe)

Just those four games? Why not the entire Genesis collection with the Game Gear titles? It’d be a phenomenal release.

#1 The SMS had good Sonic games, but the Genesis versions are much better. Stick with the 16 bit versions.

Let’s be honest, these four were the cream o’ the crop back in the day. Putting the mediocre Game Gear titles on here would just water down the experience. I’m pumped for this game!

Sounds awesome – but would be better for Sonic 1 – 3, Knuckles, Sonic 3D and then a few master system / gamegear sonic titles on a DS game.

Hell yeah, I’ve been waiting for SEGA to announced this.
It’ll be so cool to play all my favorite Sonic classics on the go.

Save is not a new feature for Sonic 1 or 2.
You can save in the Gameboy port of Sonic 1, and in both games on the Genesis Collection for PSP.

This is great news, and I will definitely buy it, unless there is one problem fixed. The problem is that Sonic The Hedgehog (the first one) for some reason on every single iteration outside of the genesis (the mega collections and so on) has the music slowed down to about 80% of what it originally was.
Seriously Sega, fix this problem! This is a bug for over five years now! It sours the whole gameplay experience of Sonic 1! I am a big fan of the Sonic series, and having this blemish just doesn’t show that you have faith in this product!

oh my lord
Now i can play the good version of Sonic 2 opposed to the game gear version! but you should have put game gear games on there, also. Sonic 1GG & Sonic Chaos were pretty good

Nice! But is the DS fast enough to emulate Blast Processing? ;D And will “Sonic 3″ and “Sonic & Knuckles” come locked on?

If you wanna know if the DS can handle the speed, Play either of the Sonic Rush games. They are excellent, and the speed is amazing.

But honesty, I really, really hope that SEGA treats this collection a whole lot better then Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis for the GBA. I was excited to finally get the chance to play Sonic 1 on my GBA until I’ve learned that the game is terrible.
So here’s hoping that they won’t do the same for these games otherwise I’ll wait for reviews.

Sonic CD wasn’t produced by Sonic Team.
Plus it’s a pretty hefty file.

Requests:
1. Rerelease Sonic CD.
2. Don’t mess this one up like Sonic 1 on the GBA.
3. Let this be the last time these games are ever released.

it wasn’t?
that sucks..still,I can dream
whilst it is a big file,it caould be shrunk, like some of the video’s quality could be a bit downsized.

Come on everyone, I think you’re going about this wrong.
1. A image shows knuckles and sonic at Mushroom Hill fighting a boss (Multiplayer co-op maybe)
2. The case says 4 games in one, remember Mega Collection just said “7 great hits” meaning some games will probably be unlockable like Sonic2 and knux, Sonic3 and knux, Sonic CD and/or more.

Hm, this should be interesting. I just hope it doesn’t turn out like Sonic Genesis for the GBA did.

If this ends up like Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis, I will cry, I don’t want to be disappointed like I have been with recent Sonic games,
Its nice that you have started paying attention to the oldschool fans lately.
I also wish that there will be a Sonic Gamegear Collection for DS also (maybe with that Sonic The Hedgehog Pocket Colour from Neogeo Pocket Colour also included.)

Nice complilation Sega. But you should also add Sonic CD to the list. You should also release the complilation for the PSP. WHY IS EVERYONE FORGETTING ABOUT SONIC CD! IT’S LIKE-THE BEST SONIC GAME IN THE FRANCHISE! (My personal fav is Sonic 2, though.
