Project Needlemouse Character Countdown – Day 2!Welcome back, SEGA fans! In a word: Wow. We were expecting a fairly big reception to the prospect of news on Project Needlemouse – but Sonic fans young and old came out of the woodwork in masses to take on our Trivia, dwarfing our challenge of 250 correct responses with a whopping 700+ within the first 12 hours. That’s one heck of a start, guys – and you all deserve some well-earned kudos for it. As promised, today we’ve removed our first two names from the list! Say goodbye to Charmy Bee and Chip, both of whom will not be making an appearance in Project Needlemouse!
With that, it’s time to take things up a notch and move into Day II of our Needlemouse Challenge! Day 2: SEGA / Sonic Facebook (Difficulty: Easy)Challenge: Get 500 Replies with 3/3 Correct answers – COMPLETE! Bonus Point unlocked with 750+ correct responses! – COMPLETE! Update: Day 3 will be starting at 9:45 AM PST on Wednesday Morning! Well done on a fantastic second day that accomplished both the original goal and the notably harder to earn bonus point! Today’s trivia is now live on our official SEGA and Sonic Facebook pages! All answers need to be submitted on the Status Update with the Trivia Questions. 1: What was the general name for the robot enemies in the early Sonic games?
Badniks. Not sure how official that was, but it’s what we called ‘em anyway.
2: 50 Rings is always nice, but 100 is even nicer – why so?
Same reason 100 of anything in a platformer is nice – an extra life.
3: In Sonic 2 for the Genesis / Mega Drive, how many lives was a ‘continue’ worth?
Only 3 – same as if you’d started a new game from the stage.

I didn’t even look at the list at first.
The objective they strove for was to make a list of possible characters that made no sense, right? I figure 1 or 2 characters listed even make sense.
Or, maybe it will turn out every character not listed is playable and this is all a trick! Which means Tails, Knuckles, Cream, Espio, Rouge, Omega, Gamma, Blaze, Dr. Hyneman I mean Robotnik I mean Eggman, Metal Sonic, Tails Doll and Mecha Knuckles are playable.
As well as characters that no one remembers or know.

at number 4: I doubt that SEGA is actually getting rid of these characters that their rejecting, they’re just not showing up or playable in the game. :\
I liked Chip in Unleashed but I wasn’t expecting him to show up cause of what happened to him near the end.

Why did you have to move it to facebook? I’m not signing into facebook for this. If it was at least new info, fine, but come one SEGA, we know that the last one standing on that list is going to be Sonic.
I’m honestly more concerned with what characters are going to be in the game itself, rather than the playable ones. I mean, if you are truly doing this game with the sole intent on pleasing the old school fans then limit the universe to Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Robotnik. Perhaps Metal Sonic and MAYBE Amy.
Also, though I doubt you’re going to read or follow this, you could always try returning to the classic Sonic design, I’m betting a lot of old school fans would love that, since most have criticized Sonic’s new design for a while. Try to make a game like it would’ve been made before Adventure.

1) It was in the manual that the robot characters name as a group was ”Badniks” They each had there won independent names as well.
2) Every collection of 100 rings entitled you to 1 extra life.
3) A continue gave you 3 new lives. The same amount that a new game started you with.

We’ve done it. We went above the 1000 mark people! Hopefully they’ll move to Sonic and Knuckles tommorow in terms of trivia. Oh and my picks for the finalists? Shadow, Amy, Sonic. As for Tails and Knuckles, perhaps they’ll post a new one of these in a month or so with them and silver or some other character that was used in the past.

Truth be told, I don’t like Silver. I know I’m not being fair to him at all considering I’ve never really got to know him well, but he just doesn’t seem very hedgehog-like for a hedgehog; aside from the strange quills, I’m not even sure if he can roll into a ball like all hedgehogs should do. It’s like the future in store for the animals is to evolve into bipeds that lose their ancestral traits that were necessary for survival and gain psychic powers in their place, and while I’ll admit that’s a pretty impressive concept, it makes the animals way too similar to humans than they should. Animal species, in my view, are the coolest when they have different abilities from each other that make them what they are. I’d probably warm up to Silver a little bit more had he been a human.
Shadow is another character I dislike. His badboy personality is pretty cool, but he doesn’t seem to have any goals or ambitions for himself besides avenging the loss of his dearly beloved Maria, and you can only play that card so many times. Besides, he’s not a necessary anti-Sonic, nor is he very good at it; Metal Sonic is much more fitting. The fact that he’s a metal look-a-like of Sonic that stands for everything Sonic does not stand for practically makes Metal Sonic a terrifying mockery of Sonic himself. In addition, he has a life long ambition to kill Sonic, and not just provoking him with insults. My point is that Metal Sonic is far more hostile than Shadow, appeared in the franchise before him, and deserves better.

I agree with you Mopingskull on what you say about Shadow and Metal Sonic. Sonic is by FAR better than Shadow and Shadow will never be Sonic’s rival. Metal Sonic is Sonic’s rival and always WILL be his rival!

Not only that, but Shadow is nothing but a recolor of Super Sonic. They just added different gloves, shoes, and added red streaks on his body to make him look “different”. On top of that, he practically has NO REASON to come back. They should have made Shadow a one-shot deal like Chip and Tikal. Nothing else. Also, HE’S NOT FAST! He only accelerates to Sonic’s speed w/ his hover shoes which kinda makes him cheat his way to being “as fast as Sonic” like some claim him to be.

they brought Shadow back cause Shadow gained a huge fanbase after SA2 and the fans wanted him to appear in more games.
But yeah, I agree that Sonic Team should’ve made Shadow a one shot character. Sonic Adventure 2 is the only game I thought he was ever good in and respected him as a character.

yeah chip’s dead ohwell for charmy at most its sonic and needle mouse in the sillouhete or sonic and shadow. still wish their would be a sonic game based on the sat/comic book sonic story line at least. that would most likey get more attention than all the other sonic games after SA2. and being put at least a teen rated game so sega doesn’t focus the game play and the game to foucs for kids. after all the fan base for sonic since master system atleast deserve it. and their doesn’t have to be cursing. and then the game play may be descent and no guns. we dont need to repeat shadow fro god sakes.

Can we have a game with Sonic only, please? I beg all of the Sonic Team to just lay off all of Sonic’s “friends” and bring back the cool blue silent hedgehog I remember from my childhood. Project Needlemouse gave me hope, but if it’s like the more recent Sonic games, then I’ll just give up on new games and hope that the continued slaghter of my childhood hero will end.
