Regarding my Needlemouse hopes, dreams, and aspirations however:
I hope that going forward the game provides a satisfying blend of platforming and speed.
I hope for the return of the specialized shields and their unique mechanics.
I dream of collecting all the chaos emeralds.

It’s amazing yet clever how SEGA has manage to get so many people to partake in these activities as a marketing tactic; only to receive a couple of pieces of concept art and hopefully some greater details of the game today. Personally, it’s nice to know up to this point through that concept art that they really are aiming for this to be a nostalgic sort of game.

The only concern I do have so far is the hype. I’m not on about the attention this game’s getting; I’m on about the possibility of receiving too much hype. It doesn’t help matters really. Wow, that little piece of music on the Sega homepage (US version) sounds great! I mean it sounds a bit like sonic the hedgehog 1, but with much more flavor and speed

And those concept arts with the info you’ve send really amaze me in the spirit SEGA has for the game. I mean, get our tv’s back in the trees, how classic is that!!! I’m so amazed with the news today, and already look forward to Sonic’s next CD release and afrcorse the game we all have been talking about. Wonder how the end boss song sounds…. Its good to see Sonic going back to old roots and having a game to himself again. While I do enjoy some of the other characters, coming out with a new ( and annoying) one every game has kind of made me want to turn away a little bit. Hopefully by just having Sonic, the series can make the comeback it deserves.

I’ve always hated those sunflowers, btw. They stood out to much for my liking…I dunno.

I am truly disappointed Sega. Please listen to my wishes, and everyone’s wishes for this game. We do not want rehashed content, such as old badniks, Green Hill Zone palm trees, sunflowers, and so on. We want brand new levels that don’t rehash things from the older games. We want it to be a classic Sonic game, but not a Sonic the Hedgehog 1 HD remake. Try making brand new badniks, scenery, levels, and the like. After this, I almost expect you to make the foreground a checkered pattern. Please refrain from doing this, as it has been done countless times before. Thank you.

I hope this game is styled like Sonic 3 & Knuckles a bit in level design… Lava reef was my favorite Sonic stage ever, I would LOVE to see a stage developed like that. Though now curious if this stage is going to be like an updated Green Hill, maybe like Neo Green Hill from Sonic Advance…? Well excited to see Thursday, I know not to get too excited but I’m hoping we seen in game shots, or a trailer or even just 10 seconds of gameplay footage… XD; Well I can dream, can’t I? But so far this contest has been fantastic in my opinion. Sure I could say that all I’m seeing are robots and trees, but I get what the blog is saying and so far so good on SEGA’s part, this contest really have involved the community and hyped us, lots of people will be let down if this game isn’t amazing… I give my props to SEGA though, this is getting some major attention even outside the usual fanbase. That’s good marketing.

So Hedgehog Week begins! It’s kind of fun to think about it, really. Today I had an exam and couldn’t help but smile when I thought about it while I drove home.

I came home a bit miffed. Maybe it’s because of that, but when I read this post I couldn’t help but feel disappointment, which is a first as far as Needlemouse is concerned. The artwork is lovely, and everything that was said is right, don’t get me wrong… but I expected a screenshot at the very least.

Six months and still no screenshots or footage. If this was an ordinary game, then I wouldn’t be like this, but it’s been teased, ovr and over again, the return of the mechanics I love so much. And that’s what I want to see confirmed, more than anything else. Whatever the name it’s going to have, I don’t care. It could be Elise’s Return and I still wouldn’t mind if that mechanics was there, strongly built.

I understand if there aren’t any screenshots available. My predictions dictate the game is for Sonic’s 20th anniversary, so it’s probably in it’s early stages. But really, hype alone isn’t cutting for me anymore.

Everyone who has crossed paths with me on the internet KNOWS I’m quite optimistic most of the time and I’m not a extremist at all. For example I like Unleashed quite a lot, thank you very much. I went bonkers with the first trailer even though NOTHING was shown, I’ve entered the challenges that were proposed, and I’ve been stalking Needlemouse constantly. So this strange negative feeling might be either a cool down, me having a crap day or just setting myself for disappointment.

Or maybe I’ll be surprised and you guys release something about the game thursday. Here’s hoping! Good luck with Hedgehog week, regardless of the outcome. I appreciate all the effort that has been done, which sometimes, it’s not pointed out enough.

I’ll run along now, this is not a soap box.

I wouldn’t be so disappointed if we at leat got a sketch of Sonic or a piece of landscape :/

I enjoy the idea of a retro take on the game, but the music doesn’t have to be 16-bit. It worked for Megaman, but that’s because that game’s formula never really evolved all that much, and as an 8-bit title, it was still interesting.

Sonic however got significantly better stylewise between Sonic 1 and S3&K. I feel like it’s reasonable to change the style, as long as we get the same gameplay formula.

I figured its worth a try to post another.

It took me a while to get to the US page not realising I could change using the flags. Why isn’t needlemouse on the UK site? Seeing as most Americans grew up on NES/SNES and most UK & Europeans grew up on the Mega Drive, wouldn’t it make sense to be promoting this in the UK and Europe too?

Now for my comments about the music. The drum instruments to the music was like listening to the old music of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2; that was really neat. The only thing that seemed out of place however was the other instruments; while clear and crisp, it felt like it was clashing with the old drum instruments in a way. I think I’ll be able to better judge the music when more of it gets released.

Wow… so much spam. Well, I guess when you write you’re giving stuff away, that’s what you get…
Anyway, good job at building hype for the game so far, I do hope it doesn’t disappoint. The biggest issue I had with the recent Sonic games was that the overall style and feel of the classic games was sort of lost in favor of a more Pixar animation-y one, so I’m pretty happy you’re actually taken up on addressing this issue. Now let’s just hope you take your time and not rush it as you’ve done in the past.

Do like the look of the tree and flower. Having the power ups in the trees is a good way of nostalgia, and part of the joy of the old Mega Drive games was finding all the hidden bonuses, like lives, rings, or special stage entrances or even short cuts.

I’m very happy with all this. I think everybody missed all this Sonic’s universe that have been lost over years, and I think everybody is happy too. I liked very much Sonic Adventure, it was a very good renovation to sonic for me, but after the adventure series, I think Sega has “lost the path” with Sonic. And so, now you present us Project Needlemose. So much hope that it’s what we all really want about Sonic! All we brazilians hope for this!

BUG with FLASH MUSIC!
To run the flash file in order to hear the “sound track”
you have to select the “language” “American” in the top right corner. Otherwise it doesn’t play.

I’m kind of excited about the whole thing, however, I think that a continuation of the old-style (retro) Sonic games will soon lead to disappointment. Old-school fans will realize that the old sonic games are not as great any more. Some have already realized this when they heard the “sound track” I think.

However, the Day Stages of Sonic Unleashed are THE WAY TO GO regarding the style of mixed 2D-3D gameplay, the graphics design (theme), the music. I know this will not happen for Project Needlemouse, but listen for the future: Let Sonic 5 be like the day stages of unleashed with some improvements:
- More platforming between “running” areas
- 50% 2D 50% 3D and keep the dynamically changing camera perspectives. The camera perspectives are actually the biggest innovation of sonic unleashed. The changing camera perspectives are what the loops where in the 90ies!!!!
- Return back Sonics classical shape/look. Make him Sawnic! Sonic is a SAW! He should automatically turn into a saw when he approaches a enemy at high speed (not the windshield).

Because if it is not on the Wii then you have lost a bunch of Classic Sonic Fans right there.

Anyone else getting a Sonic 3D vibe from the music – apart from the obvious Sonic 1 credit reference at the start. The way the music whammy’s is what makes it 3D esque in my mind. That game didnt have the best music of the 16-bit era but at least Sega are offering us old-school style music.

Do we know if this is Sonic Team working on this as a definite? Or is it another Sega in-house project department?

I was wondering, if Sonic is the only playable character, how will there be offline/online co-op? Will there be? I’m looking forward to it. As a matter of fact, Project Needlemouse is my most anticipated game of 2010. But I will confess that I’m disappointed by the lack of originality in the concept art. It would be fine if they were in the STYLE of the original games. But, no, all of the images feature objects that look exactly like their Genesis counterparts, with nothing new whatsoever.
But, then again, this is only –as was stated in a certain interview — the first step. As long as the gameplay is fun, I’ll be happy. You could do far worse than ripping off one of the best games ever made

I can’t wait for Thursday so i can finally find out the title for this Epic Game!!!1 I’m just wondering which sonic is going to show up? Becuz while i like the old sonic with black eyes, i really like the one we know of today as it tends to give me that feel thats he’s more up to date. But i’m loving the trip down memory lane with all these cool concept art that showcasing the theme of this game. #1: The route you guys at SEGA are taking is fantastic. I think I can speak for most that we’re happy as hell to see the old Sonic again — though, the biggest criticism is freshness, so most seem glad it’s a new adventure, rather than a rehash.

#2. I’m not going to win a prize, but I’m glad you guys are doing what you’re doing. Never forget the fans that brought Sonic to where he is today. We’re still fans, and I think a lot of new fans would like to experience this side of Sonic as well.

Please listen to synchronizer on post #517 and StephenUK on post #753. What they’re saying is exactly how I feel about all this.

SEGA, if you want this to be a Sonic 4, and I mean if you’re serious about this being Sonic 4, than you need to take this more seriously and actually treat this like a Sonic 4. Honestly, recycling things from the old Sonic games for a continuation of the classic Sonic series is just lazy. Put some imagination into this project; treat it like a treasure. These are the classic Sonic games we’re dealing with, after all, and I think it’d be disrespectful if recycled enemies and props from old zones are used throughout the whole of this supposed sequel.

Of course, I’m sure you’re just going to flat out ignore this, considering this is from a Sonic fan who has played all of the old 16-bit Sonic platform adventures, including the Game Gear games. Maybe these concepts will be just that in the end, but I don’t intend to take any chances. I feel like this has to be said.

SEGA, if you intend for this game to be an all-new adventure, you really, really have to mean it this time.
