SEGA Challenges Wii Gamers to Enter the Tournament of Legends! We are excited to announce a new project in partnership with developer High Voltage Software – Tournament of Legends™. Exclusive for Wii™, Tournament of Legends is a weapon and magic based 3D-fight game featuring some of the biggest playable characters on Wii. Each fighter is based on a legend from world mythology: the Minotaur, a powerful Gladiator, Gorgon, Stone Golem, Valkyrie and other well-known and powerful characters. The game is scheduled for release in May 2010. Tournament of Legends features epic battles in fantastic fighting arenas where they will wield mythical blade weapons, launch 40 magic attacks, and dodge giant mythological creatures that protect the battle lairs. In intense one and two-player fights, players master a range of character and weapon based magic attacks; including unleashing, amongst others, a man-eating lion, Jupiter’s Storm, Thor’s Fury and a nest of venomous snakes. Tournament of Legends strives to offer even the most sophisticated Wii gamer a rich weapon fighting experience. Players will be able to switch weapons and enchantments with other characters or compete in various Wii Remote™/Nunchuk™ controller challenges which include dodging giant mythological creatures or restoring health and armor during fights. The game also features an Interactive Training mode and supports the Classic Controller™. Tournament of Legends cinematic effects and graphics are fueled by the High Voltage Software Quantum 3 engine, designed and optimized for Wii. Large, 3D mythological fighters move fluidly. Fighting arenas, characters, and magical attacks are polished by advanced real-time lighting, blended animation, cinematic color curves, and more. And the fighters’ mythic journeys are told through beautifully hand drawn in-game cinematics. Tournament of Legends is set to release in May 18th, 2010 exclusively for Wii.

Who the heck still plays fighting games? After Mortal Kombat went 3D, that was the end for me.

This looks awful. Rage of the Gladiator is a WiiWare game restricted to 40MB max and looks much more polished than this. How do you explain this HVS? Stop working with HVS, SEGA, and don’t blame the Wii owners when this inevitably bombs as it’s shaping up to be a horrible game that somehow gets progressively worse the closer it gets to release, as the first images looked, in some ways, better than these, though still far from good. When did Western developers make good fighting games anyway? They should have done something novel using Motion Plus, like a more fleshed out version of the Wii Sports Resort swordplay, not this crap. And why does it look so awful? Soul Calibur on the freaking Dreamcast looked absolutely gorgeous, the sequels on the PS2 and GameCube were even better. The Wii is over twice as powerful as the Cube and this is the best they can do? What a joke…

Hopefully it will have online. Since High Voltage did such a good job with The Conduit’s online, then why not have wifi?

In all honesty, I liked Gladiator AD much better, it had a much more mature and darker feel to it, not to also mention it was more realistic and brought back a nostalgic Gladiator movie feel to it. I know it had kinks, but if it was put on hold and worked on after finishing ‘the grinder’ as opposed to being cancelled and transformed completely then it probably would have turned into a must buy. This though… this looks like something I’d buy if it was going to be a gift for my 8 year old cousin. Judging by the dressed up oxen and angles, this game is a game that pretty much says ‘DO NOT BUY’ to about 90% of people above the age of 16, who just so happen to be the majority of buyers of games… its a domination of unserious kiddie games like these that pretty much explains why the Wii fails to be the most used console even though it is the most bought. I’m sure the game will be fine overall, it just bothers me that they took a game that had such good potential and buried it.
