Sonic 4 website update – now with 100% more Motobug!A new update to the Sonic 4 website was made this morning! You’ve seen the concept art, and now you can take a look at him in action – Motobug is back as the first part of our new Badniks page!
Click the image above to head to the website, or just type in www.sonicthehedgehog4.com into your browser. It’s so easy, even an Orbinaut can do it. Maybe. If you haven’t yet, you can also jump into our official Sonic 4 forums and join the discussion. There’s a lot to talk about, and a ton of new posts showing up each day, so feel free to add in your thoughts and hopes about the game! In the meantime, the first of our Hedgehog Day prizes have shipped today! There are still a ton of prizes we have yet to ship, so don’t worry if you haven’t seen a PM response on the forums yet – you’ll be getting one very soon!

Quick question about the site. I just checked it, and some things are missing.
Specifically, the countdowns, along with one of the menu items under Multimedia.

[U]THIS IS A QUESTION FOR ALL SONIC FANS READING THIS POST[/U]: Would you like to see some of the old classic Sonic levels (like Green Hill Zone, Aquatic Ruin, Mystic Cave, etc.) remade into HD/2.5D graphics as unlockables/DLC for Sonic 4: Episode 1????? If you do please say so on this post!
Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love and am thrilled that Sonic 4 is a brand-new adventure but I also would love to see the classic levels with a modern twist.

Cool Motobug. If it really follows you if you miss it then I already know that I’ll have a lot of missing rings by the end of the level. Also, can’t wait to hear back from you RubyEclipse! And comment 7, I would go for that…but not so much aquatic ruin…argh bad memories.

I’m not seeing any countdowns either.
I actually said this earlier but for one reason or another, my comment’s still awaiting moderation.
It also seems like one of the pieces of the “Multimedia” subsection is missing. It DID have a countdown over it slated to end thursday, but it’s now just completely blank, no countdown, no anything.

Please please please reconsider the Robotnik/Eggman reversal! It’s a small text change for you, but it means the world to the old school fans. Plus, as #13 said, “Badnik” makes NO sense without Robotnik.

I hope that this game is not all rehash, RubyEclipse I really do. A couple old remastered badniks is fine, but not if all of them are rehashed. Can’t wait to see some of the new badniks ttat are (hopefully) being made.

Sega hear my plea.. ok first off this game looks great… you just have us waiting is the only problem.. but here is my plea… after this epsidoc series of sonic which i know will be a great success.. you will make a profit off it.. now with that profit get a team go pick up sonic adventures. 1 and 2 and plays those study those.. and come up with a story line.. get your power points and boards set up a meeting and pitch it to the head of sega.. and MAKE SONIC ADVENTURE 3.. lol your probably gonna laugh at this while reading.. hahahaha but i respect every project yall have done love every game yall made.. i am what you call a true sonic fan…… Pls here my plea.. this could be a start of something good.. lol when i graduate i promise ill be there with yall and make it if it takes that long… hahahha anywho keep up the good work and im anticipating on this new series yall creating …. my prayer are with yall.. and i appriciate everything yall have done….. peace out..

It’s very important for the atmosphere of the game, otherwise all your claims about the target audience being the classic fans are BUNK.
And please ignore all the whiners saying that it’s not important. Artistically inclined people understand that atmosphere is one of the most important thing after gameplay.
Give us a Sonic that is cute and actually looks like Sonic not some freak with no soul.

I also agree with Aj. I am really really glad that you are making a 2D home console sonic, it has been 16 years and I am sure you have some bright young designers who can really constribute to the old series. But DON’t abandon the Sonic adventure series. Those 2 games were really good. Athough there were some inconsistencies, like the Sonic levels were better than other characters. But they were quality games and you should follow up with that using your new hedgehog engine. It would be awesome if you could alternate between 2D and 3D sonic games, for example come out with SA 3 in 2012 and then Sonic 5 in 2013. But anyway, I know Sonic 4 will do awesome!!! Btw, is there a timer for the rest of the badniks?

Why not change this character’s name to something cool like Jason or Raxel the Hedgehog? This way we can all feel happy. I would like to see Raxel wearing a pair of huge heeled shoes with the the plastic gold fish in water the heels – this is not a hot, rude retort, rather a solution to put to rest people who loved the original ideas. Change is for the better!
E-mails – instead of ‘Tails’ or Miles Prower
Eggman could be called Dr.Coldwar DontaH Alludetu.
Also, Knuckles could be called Roxanne the cool dude.
Raxel (or Max?) could also greet Tails thusly:
“Hey e-life? What’s the new propagandula?”
Where as the original Sonic may have left humans to die – I mean are we really deserving of a hero like Sonic? Is imprisonment the backbone of human progress?

you know what if your sooooo unhappy( not that most of us arent but welcom segas step in the right direction) then dont buy it and petition for a classic sonic like most of us are. some of you get too carried away with your coments and put things to extreems without being level headed. honestly, PETITION LIKE THE REST OF US AND DONT COMPLAINE UR GIVING US A BAD NAME! enjoy in segas step twords a classic style play. is it really that bad that you disregard the game only on its graphical output. people dont understand that a game is a game and is meant to be played and enjoyed and no matter what, even if they made a retro sonic 4( a real one to follow) you would complain anyway about some unforgivable graphic chainge, seems that you havent matured at all over the corse of 20+ years (depending on the year your born). if sega made a compleat retro people would say (most likly) oooooo sega’s copying capcom and more complaints would cycle in. no mater what and again i stress it that if the play is good and it gets good reviews then no mater what it became a good game and sega will continue. if it sucks and gets bad reviews then it failed and sega has once again compleated its usual cycle”". you also dont seem to understand that even a game with the original sonic (my pref is the sonic 2 designe) it could still fail to capture its classic glory but since its retro, even if the game gets a 1 you’ll give it a 4 or 5. that sounds like blind fanboy loyalty to me. i’ve grown up over time and maby you should to.
note: its not that im not disapointed or a new age fanboy but as time went on and i grew so did sonic. even though i had my own dislike about the games i also found something to enjoy that most games give (with exeptions on certin games). so be more apropriate with what you say and be productive rather than couter productive. i wouldnt be surprised if sega droped anything platformer like envolving sonic forever. so again be constructive and place valid points like knothole resedent did in order to point out flaws and then be ready for counters instead of cursing other people off (like its said everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

If you seriously like the new Sonic, or think he fits into the classic Sonic universe, then you are what’s wrong with this fanbase, you have no appreciation for the awe-inspiring artistry and imagination that characterized the original series.
If it makes you feel better, I can draw you a picture of Classic Sonic. You can look at it all you like. You can’t play the game with it, but apparently that isn’t as important to you, so you should be fine.
If that makes you feel better, maybe in Sonic 5 Sega shouldn’t bother with a character model at all, maybe Sonic should just be a dot. Because apparently it doesn’t matter that a game is called Sonic even when there isn’t a character that remotely resembles Sonic in it.
While we’re at it, let’s ditch music and sound effects too, and backgrounds as well, since atmosphere clearly doesn’t matter.

its not even that we dont care about the designe, but its a game and its meant to be played and enjoyed. your taking it to an extreem and you seem to not understand that even if it featured classic sonic it could be another sonic 06 but this time it was a retro game( if it was compleatly hand made). but since its classic sonic we’ll love it anyway and say its good and not look at the fact that the rating was a -2. its 50% of our own fan base ( not even ) that hates the concept because of green eyed goku sonic and the other 50% that don’t mind it a long as it captures the play and feel of the classic (wich rush never truly re-created, plus the whole boost feature didnt go too well). the 50% that dosent mind isnt saying that the old sonic sucks or that we dont want him, but for the time being we are happy that sega is taking a good step into the right direction. i respect your opinion, i dont compleatly disagree with you. i have to say that i agree with the petition in part but its not to the point were i will discount the entier game. for now im looking for play and then later we can go back and hammer out those details with another game. so rather than hating it cuz it dosent have what you want, try it out and see if it really is good. its definitly the same hedgehog, its just an older version (which people dont seem to understan, its not the young sonic that we grew up with but its now a 16 year old sonic so that explains his look). were not talking about radicall chainges, and we certinly wont buy it if sonic looks like some extreem freak but its only an issue of continuity. to say that anybody who dissagree with you wont mind sonic turning into a dot is a blatent lie. we care, but we care more about the game play (so long as its a reasonable sonic as in a sonic thats aged to point, and his chainges make sence).

Dude, if changing eye color and lengthening spikes makes you flip out this much I don’t even want to know what kind of tantrum you threw over mario’s transition from blue shirt and red overalls (donkey kong) to brown shirt red overalls (super mario bros) to red shirt blue overalls (smb 2 and beyond). THAT CHARACTER DOESN’T EVEN REMOTELY RESEMBLE MARIO! WAHHHH!!!
Let’s put it in perspective. Sonic 1 was released in ’91, S&K in ’94–this is essentially the reign of “old school” sonic. The character has been going 15 years hence. Sonic adventure was released in ’99, complete with the “green eye” update and longer quills. That means that the green eye sonic has been around for 10+ years already! Old school sonic has his charms, but characters grow and change as they get older–something you might want to try yourself.

to all the people who keep complaining about eggman/robotnik The original English instruction manual for his 1991 debut game Sonic the Hedgehog described the character’s full name as “Doctor Ivo Robotnik” while the Japanese version’s instruction manual for the same game called him “Doctor Eggman”. Then in 1999′s Sonic Adventure, the character was called both “Doctor Robotnik” and “Doctor Eggman” in the English version. Yuji Naka has explained that “Robotnik” is the character’s real name while “Eggman” is a “common name taken after his shape.” Despite this, the Japanese Sonic Channel profile listed his full name as unknown.
