I’d like to know if there are any plans to localize Yakuza: Kenzan. I love the Yakuza series and plan on getting 3, but I feel like I’m missing out on part of the series without Kenzan. I know it takes place in a separate time period but it looks so very good indeed.

I’m totally psyched for this! However, I do have to ask, will there be a reversible cover more along the lines of the Japanese one? The current cover seems very garish.
But as for what I’m most excited about, I want to know more about the combat refinements! It seems to be a lot more weapons based than Y1 or 2. is that due to the Kenzan influence?
Also, a bit more story info wouldn’t hurt.

Is it true that Sega has taken out the part where you can run a hostess club just to speed up the translation process? It was really fun in Yakuza 2. You should at least put it in as DLC later if it is true.

There is rumor going around that the hostess part of the game is missing Please Sega Keep the Hostess bar Management game in as this HUGE part of the story and one things I was looking forward to in the Game after spending time in Japan. I was looking forward to a new fresh game close to full Japanese experience please don’t dumb it down to just a violent beat up to please North American audience. If the hostess part IS missing you leave me no other choice but to cancel my pre order.
Thank You,

How about a confirmation YES or NO on whether or not the hostess club has been cut? You (sega) have been good at ignoring the fans on your forums. Don’t pull this silent treatment crap just to drum up more sales if you HAVE cut it.
You owe your fans at least a proper YES or NO response. We do not ask much.

Since Sega are apparently not inclined to fully localising their games, instead opting to cut content and not inform eager fans.
Here’s a thought Sega – maybe Yakuza fans actually like, and daresay have an interest in and enjoy immersing themselves japanese culture in this ficticious world (psst, Sega – its own of the games biggest draws) – in what part of this equation does removing the hostess clubs seem like a good idea.
You’ve lost my business Sega, I’ll be sure to pick up a copy second hand to ensure you don’t benefit from cutting corners and content and telling fans its for their own good.

Wow what kick in the nuts to the fans, First you say you are “bringing out for the fans” then you make changes to dumb it down for the North America audience. When the so called Fans know about the Japanese version and what is in the game. These are the people that would pay top dollar for your game and anything else realted to it.
This game will fail with this mind set, you are not going to sell a Japanese GTA clone to the GTA Crowd. Really whats next bling, hip hop music and guns? Oh well there are pleny of games coming out but what shame. I am not going to pay $64.99 CND for half a game or some wannabe Japanese GTA clone.

Good grief Sega, we’re not stupid or desparate enough to rush out and buy an incomplete game YEAR OLD game at full price. There’s this little title called God of War 3 and other bigger and better games coming out in March and April. The Yakuza series, Sega (is “complete moron” one of the job requirements for working at Sega?) and everyone involved can **** off. I won’t be buying anything Sega related ever again, sorry Alpha Protocol. I’ll dance with joy the day you finally go out of business.

I have to say I love Yakuza, in all its greatest glory and I made a decision to rock this game till time ends. The only thing I find quite stupid is to the fact of cutting this game down. I dont know why everyone decided to have cuts all of the sudden, I understand the quiz x quiz because it deals with a lot of japanese content, in which people overseas may and probably will not know. But the other is the hostess club, being one of the most immersed part of the game in there, I have played yakuza 2 which was good, pretty short, but good. This part is something most people look forward to and wont mind waiting, I am for sure keeping my pre-order, but I hope to see that part of the game as a downloadable in the future, DONT FAIL ME SEGA!!

Cutting the hostess club was not a smart move. But I understand why it was cut.
We know it is to try to match western cultures for greater casual appeal or perhaps censorship to prevent any backlashes. Maybe time constraints were the real reason, but I doubt it. I do not believe this was a wise financial decision. It also degrades the company image. When you release a title later, you are not suppose to remove content. Most titles released later will add content.
Many fans will be upset over this. I do not even enjoy the hostess portions much, but it is the principle of removing content and giving us less content than the japanese version which makes me angry.
I really hope Sega listens to the yakuza fans and offers FREE DLC for the hostess club at a later time.

If there is not an announcement by the release date stating that the cut content will be available as DLC or in a future update, I will cancel my pre-order. I pre-ordered both Yakuza 1 and 2. I am a loyal fan of the series. You will lose me as a loyal fan if this is not rectified. Don’t make statements claiming this is for the fans and choose to do Japanese language only, only to turn around and say you cut the hostess club and Japanese quiz show for cultural reasons. If you were concerned with the cultural differences, why do Japanese language only? This is lame, your excuse is lame, and you’re in serious danger of losing a loyal customer.

altering the game content for western audiences kind of misses the point as to why the yakuza series was/is so great. the beauty of yakuza is that it allowed us to glimpse into a culture/world we wouldn’t otherwise have access to. hostess bars are part of that world. you are seriously underestimating your audience by cutting them from the north american release. if you read the comments on the ign, kotaku posts or even these contents, you’ll see that the majority of the fans who supported this series here in the west are at an uproar. there are a lot of people who have decided to drop their pre-orders because of this. please reconsider this. it’s a really bad move on your part to water the game down. the reason why it took so long, you say, for it to come to the west is due to poor sales of the first two installments. just imagine what this will do to the series at a whole; when all of the hardcore fans of the series start to walk away.

SEGA, please hear what all the fans are saying. If the content is cut, at least rectify this by announcing a DLC patch to fix this. I was really looking forward to the game (loved 1 and 2) but now not so much.

I will be cancelling my pre-order for Yakuza 3 and will instead import a copy because of the cut hostess club content. I’ve been wanting to play this for a while and only held off on shipping a JP copy in because I heard it was being localized.
My Japanese isn’t great but I don’t mind slogging it out with my DS Kanji Dictionary software if it means I’ll actually be able to see 100% of the game content.

To The Executive Board of Sega Corporation and Sammy Corporation,
I’ve been a fan of Sega for decades having purchased most major releases (including imports), and every console Sega has released in North America. The “Yakuza” series (Ryu ga Gotoku) is easily one of the best in existence.
Unfortunately, the recently announced cuts have made me severely question whether Sega/Sammy truly respects its customers or its developers. To remove so much content is both a slap in the face to the artists, programmers, and engineers that poured their hearts into creating such a masterpiece, and the consumers that simply wanted the same game that Japan received a year ago only with subtitles.
Simply put, I’m finding it harder to justify paying full price for a “partial” game. Please do what can be done to get this content back into the game. You will notice that you’ve already created a large backlash from the fans by announcing this a mere 2 weeks before it is to be release.
Thank you for your time and years of wonderful entertainment.

I will am going to cancel my pre-order as well. I did not do the hostess parts very much in Yakuza 1 and 2. I did visit a hostess club when I lived in Japan. Regardless I will not be paying full price for a game that has content cut and no promise of downloadable content. I will buy it used so that Sega doesn’t get my money. Big companies like EA are trying to avoid people buying used so that they don’t lose money. Not Sega, cut content of a game that diehard fans really want and expect them to pay full price? I have seen at least a 100 people already complain and say they will not buy or they will buy used. Pathetic and weak.

I lived in Japan and also played the title while I was there. If they cut the hostess club part its not my main interest in the game BUT it cuts out a huge part of Japanese culture and leaves a noticable GAP in game play. Kazuma is a Yakuza (ya-san) and hostess clubs are part of that world. Most people who enjoy this type of game typically have some form of interest in Japanese culture and those of us who played RyugaGotoku2 enjoyed the hostess club parts as well and it added to the realizm that the titles strive for. I may also have to cancel my pre-order and just buy the Japanese one instead and will not purchase another Sega product again state side

“You guys are the biggest bunch of complainers I have ever seen…. *rant* *rant* *whine*” – Myshtuff
It’s better to complain (specifically about something justifiable as cut content from an old game) than to bend over at a game company’s every whim. Improvements and innovation aren’t made with leniency. Sega needs to learn that there are consequences to their laziness. Game companies in general need to learn that consumer loyalty is their greatest asset. Capcom has learned this; head over to their site and see. yes, Sega is doing pretty well an Japan, but there’s a reason they’re failing in America. They just don’t care here.
The “complainers” you speak of atleast have a reason for their outrage. You don’t (atleast not a good one). Also, don’t underestimate a fan’s resolve, or make unsubstantiated assumptions like “half of you would [not] play [the hostess club]“. In the age of piracy and used games, we can get what we want without supporting the developers.
Good thing I still have Sakura Taisen to look forward to. Thank god it’s localized by a reputable company, NIS America. Atlus would have been fine, too.
