Squad 7, move out! Valkyria Chronicles DLC #4 is releasing next week! It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve got great news for fans of Valkyria Chronicles! The long-awaited fourth DLC Pack, “The Challenges of the Edy Detachment”, is coming to your PS3 - next week! The DLC features six different missions, all involving a challenge issued from the members of Edy’s Detachment. Jann will smother you with details on how to take on a slew of tanks at once in the Lancer mission, Marina will coldly cue you for a stealthy sniper shootout – until she sees a remarkably cute fox, at least – and Edy herself will brief you on an epic shocktrooper fight of massive proportions. All in all, the six missions include challenging goals based on mastering the following classes:
In addition, you aren’t limited to only using members of Edy’s Detachment! You can field any of your personal favorites from Squad 7 that you’d like to use. The DLC will go live next Thursday, February 25th! Before then, just as with the first three batches of DLC, expect a special blog spotlight or two that will go into even more detail about what the upcoming DLC is all about! Not a bad way to kick-start the weekend, right? Happy Friday, Valkyria Fans!

Sega, please stop this. We love the DLC but the trophies are due. We thought you were done with this game after last year’s DLC but now you’re showing that it’s still got content coming, yet STILL you refuse to deliver the trophy patch that this game deserves. What do you want from us? We gave your record-breaking sales long after the game was released, we bought your DLC, we promoted the crap of it and brought it to the attention of people who would’ve otherwise ignored this wonderful title.
It has become insulting, Sega. Please just give us the trophies. You set VC2 as a PSP title to cut down on development time/cost and to capitalize on the larger handheld console market, while disappointing fans everywhere, so at least grant us this.

Why not make the medals earned in the game, trophies? I wouldn’t imagine it to be that hard. At first, I thought it might have been a lack of resources, as to the lack of trophies, but now I think you see no benefit in it or something. I’m confident there’s many people that would buy this simply for the trophies or have been holding out for the trophies, as to not have to replay it again. I have yet to replay it, waiting to see if there will ever be a trophy patch. It appears that won’t be happening, for whatever reason.
Trophies will equal in more sales, I believe.

Also, can someone please explain to me why people want trophies so much? I could not care less. In fact, I think I actively do not want trophies just because I find the whole notion to be so ridiculous.
Do you really get less enjoyment out of the game for it not having such a superfluous ‘feature?’

VC is a great game but Sega is losing money because VC doesnt have trophy support. If you want to increase sales, just add trophy for the game and for each DLC released. Then you will really see a big boost on sales.
Many players will say: “I dont care with trophies…” but in other hand you will see a lot of people that really care with trophies. Sega can earn money and make both sides happy with trophy support.

Finally ^^. And I’ll probably reiterate fans request of trophy request here (although for me, it’s just about how nice it is to see VC in my XMB).
I believe back then SEGA Japan can’t make trophy patch because they’re allocating their resources on VC2. Now that VC2 is out, there should be human resources available to support VC1, right…? It’s a different case, though, if SEGA Japan only wants to create DLC for VC2 instead, without supporting fans who bought VC1. =(
Because if companies like NIS can patch Disgaea 3, I really find it hard to believe that a company like SEGA cannot patch VC1…

Trophies are for people who can’t enjoy an excellent game unless they get to brag about their imaginary accomplishments in a fictional video game to people they don’t know online.
The worst sort of gamers there are and there’s no need to cater to them.

Boohoo, there aren’t any trophies. If trophies are your only reason for buying/liking a game, I feel bad for you since you need something in your profile to brag to your other online ‘buddies’ about. As for Sega not listening to their fans comments…. righhhhtttt. Thats why they made DLC with the characters that were the most popular with their fans. And let’s not forget those same characters were the ones in the Anime. If that isn’t fan service, I don’t know what is. Props to Sega on a great game, and I’m gonna buy this DLC to vote with my money that it was a damn great one in hopes they make another game.

I bought the game and enjoyed it very much, but haven’t bought any DLC yet… mainly because I still hope a trophy pack is coming. Not that I play games for trophies, It’s just because, now that every game has them, playing something that lacks them feel weird, like there’s something missing.
If they’re still supporting the game (adding DLC and stuff), I still hope trophies are coming. I have a lot of friends that love JRPGs but are not buying this because there are no trophies. It’s sad, but that’s the way things are.
As much as the whole “trophy cry” may sound annoying (everyone is talking about it), I think that would be the ultimate way to please fans and such. If we didn’t care about the game, we wouldn’t even bother sending the comments. We’re giving SEGA feedback: we are happy with the way the game turned out, but what we think the game is missing is trophies.

Sega should add trophy’s as a DLC and charge $4.99. If you pay an extra $0.99 they will already be unlocked for you. Another $0.99 and you can make you’re own and purchase sound effects and icons for $0.25 a pop. My cut it 40% of profits.

I bought my copy on the release day which was a surprise considering quite a few places in Canada wasn’t getting the game the same day as in the US.
So far I’ve beaten the game at least 5-6 times… Bought the DLC… beat those and enjoyed it…
It would be nice if trophies were incorporated, but what would be even nicer is multiplayer battles… that would be slick….

This DLC sounds like a blast (I’m especially anxious about a sniper mission!), but trophy support would be a godsend. I’ve beaten this game twice as well as all of the missions and EX Hard missions, not to mention Selvaria’s DLC, but I’m dieing for an excuse to to replay the core game more than anything. I’m sorry if you think I’m a “trophy whore” for this, but I just can’t bring myself to replay a game that I’ve already thoroughly experienced unless I get an extra little treat. I love this game to death, and lets all face it, trophy support would make tons of adoring fans happy and help sell potential buyers on this masterpiece. If a few people who despise trophies just to be spiteful get peeved then let them; they should just understand that trophies would only help the game they love.

I’m glad that the team is doing more DLC of VC1, but I wish they could acknowledge there are other characters in the game besides Edy and her small group. So far, I’ll get it, unless something new comes up. I’m completely avoiding VC2, however, regardless of if it stays in Japan or comes stateside. I love Varrot, but her FINALLY being playable like I feel she should have been in the first place isn’t enough to make me buy a game like that. I hope the team comes back to working on the things that made so many people love the game in the first place, rather than steering away from the fanbase to try and get a new one like they did with VC2.
To put in my personal desires, I’d like DLC of a prequel/sequel where Varrot gets more of a chance to do things. Especially playable. Also Varrot wearing a bikini and/or dressed as a maid are both things I’d like to see. I hate the anime, but I adored the OVA extra someone showed me that included Varrot joining in a hot tub. Oh, and Ellet as playable would be cool too; I imagine she would make a great Scout.

I felt the same way when i first heard, but after playing around with it, don’t worry too much. The quality is still high, and it’s extremely high for a PSP game. When you’re immersed in a battle, you really don’t notice the difference. The only bad thing really is that most of the dialogue is displayed in a ‘Tales of’ style skit scene.

I just forgot about it. I started researching RPG’s and I found out well this game was liked. Im playing 4 other RPG’s right now but I will purchase the other new DLC and play it when Im done with another. Im really happy about adding it to my lineup. With the 5 to play Im passing on all new releases for quite a while and will buy them later for 30 bucks. The only ones i will buy first release will be personna 3 for PSP and the last gaurdian.
I cant wait to start this game.

Great news! I loved the first VC, and hope that Sega considers releasing more games of this style on the PS3, I loved the artwork, story, and gameplay. Even if it’s a different cast, and a different setting, and even different gameplay, as long as the art and story are as good, and the new gameplay has the same kind of easy to pick up, interesting to master gameplay mechanics.

I recently started replaying this game, and as much as I really enjoy it, it’s such a bummer that there are still no trophies for the game. What’s worse is that Sega doesn’t care about all the fans of the game enough to release a trophy patch. The DLC is fine, but I can’t buy it because I don’t have internet, and can’t be bothered to tote my PS3 around to download it.

It’s not that SEGA doesn’t care about the fans, but simply that releasing a trophy patch is nowhere near as simple as most people imagine or think. Game code is often like a house of cards – you’d be amazed how even the smallest of things can end up breaking things you never expected!
The original Valkyria Chronicles is a fantastic game and I’m really pleased to hear you enjoyed it! It may not have trophies, but the game itself is good enough that hopefully that’s not a big issue in the larger picture.
