Sonic 4 Spotlight – What’s in an Intro? A whole lot, actually. Many of us remember that fateful week at the beginning of February, when excitement was high and the announcement of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was just around the corner. On February 2nd, which we were happy to finally re-dub “Hedgehog Day“, we updated the SEGA.com website with a special flash intro to celebrate, and included within was a little jingle – one that would later be revealed as part of the title song for the game. The Sonic community being as they are (which we’d like to define as generally awesome, creative, and dedicated), it was only a matter of time before fans jumped in with their own takes on the intro theme. Today, we’d like to spotlight a few of those that we thought were particularly well-done.
A fan-made rendition, guitar included. To preface our first spotlight, many of you have probably heard by now that Jun Senoue is doing the soundtrack for the game. Senoue-san is an awesome guy, and I say that not only because he worked on the music in Sonic and Knuckles and a huge number of other Sonic games, but also because I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him in a video conference, and he is both humble and easy to work with. This time around, Senoue-san has opted for a more traditional style to Sonic music (one I’m very pleased about), but at least one fan out there decided to pick up a guitar and give the Sonic 4 intro a Dreamcast-era “Adventure” treatment. Well done to P4KOTV for this rendition!
This one is also really impressive. Tweaker from the SonicRetro forums made up a version in the same vein as the Sonic CD intro. (Side note: if you haven’t already played Sonic CD, we highly recommend it.) The image is also fan-made, showing off a classic-style Sonic. In addition to these two, you can find quite a few more out there on the internet – ranging from orchestral to even an 8-bit take on Sonic 4′s opening music. If you guys know of any other good renditions, let us know here in the comments! What’s next to be revealed for Sonic 4? Well, since we’re already on the topic – how would you guys like a little music from the game to listen to in the near future? If you’re interested, we’ll make it happen.

I would love to have the second music as the main intro music for Sonic 4. Otherwise I’ll have to keep loading up my portable device into the Xbox for the title music.

More music would be awesome. I have no doubt in jun senoue succeeding to make great music for episode 1. Though nakamaru should also cooporate. I mean sonic advance 1 really has great music.

I’m really digging the intro tune to Sonic 4! Sonic & Knuckles had some of the greatest music ever from a Sonic game. I would LOVE to listen to some of the in-game music! You guys are the greatest!

Yes please! Oh and please please please release a proper soundtrack for Sonic 4, on CD, not digital download. How about a soundtrack for every Sonic game released on the Genesis too while you’re at it?

So how much longer are you fans going to keep bitching? Just curious. Even in something civil of a blog as this, I still see some “hurr put in classic Sonic plz” and “no fuck you Sega”.
No. YOU are the real problem to the Sonic series; not Sega, not Sonic Team, it’s you arrogant jerks who think you -know- what Sonic needs and have been putting the developers through loops and loops of want-this suggestions.
Leave them be already.

Music Would be Great!!
But in all honesty I am just glad a new sonic game is coming out that isnt chocked full of nonsene or at least I hope anyway.I am from the era when sonic was still great.I am not from the era where sonic is carrying a sword or you put a hedgehog on a box paint him black give him a gun and call him shadow.Whats a shadow? Why does he have a gun? Giving a hedgehog a gun is like giving Goku from DBZ an AK47…
I am from the era when sonic fought Robotnik not eggman as he his called now.I am from the time when Sonic Fought for freedom on Mobius with the freedom fighters and Not some earth like planet with a half baked set of characters. Can anyone say big the cat?Whatever happened to the floating island? Do you even know what the floating island is? If you are of todays generation of green eyed horribly voiced sequel seeking no power ring having sonic then you probably dont.
Thats not to say that many of the latest sonic games are all bad.I will give sonic team credit up until SA2.Some of the music was astounding and some levels were awesome but because they have to please the masses I am afraid my character and his storyline has been watered down almost to the point of no return.
Yes I say give us music and please please please lets maintain what little dignity sonic has left!

I’m Sorry, friend, but we, the arrogant fans, always asked for the same thing; wich is -a good Sonic game -. We never asked for a game with Shadow the stupid hedgehog, we never asked for Sonic to hold a stupid sword, we never tought that a white hedgehog with psychic powers would be cool.
We, the arrogant fans, never asked for complicated story line, bestiality with a princess. We never wanted to play a 3D “Werehog”. We never asked to play with unresponsive controls,to fall in bottomless holes because the controls sucks.
We, the arrogant jerks, don’t want to pay 50$-60$ for a game where we only have to press foward and run ridiculously fast, never having to take time to explore, or find hidden places. Sonic is fast, but he can walk too, you know.
So, Sorry friend, but we never asked for much, we always wanted the same thing,; Keep whats good in Sonic and let the bad stuff away. No more broken 3D gameplay, no more stupid “and useless” character, no voices, no J-Pop – Rock – pop music.
We, the arrogant fans, love Sonic and want the best for him, because we know how good he can be, because we were there when he was bigger than Mario, bigger than God (well… not really… but you know). Thank you.

that may be true, but you, the arrogant fans, do bitch and complain when u DO get what u asked for. “WE WANT SONIC 4!”
sonic 4 announced
“NOOO! SONIC LOOKS UGLY!! HES TOO SLOW! HES TOO FAST! WHERES SHADOW? WHERES BIG AND AMY?? HISI NAME IS ROBOTNIK!! OH NO NOT GREEN EYES!! I HAVENT EVEN PLAYED IT YET AND IT SUCKS!”
so yes, most of the time, you, the arrogant fans, do complain wayy too much

Well, there’s something to be said when you’re given what you asked for, and it turns out horrible. Is Sonic 4 horrible? Most certainly not, but a lot of nostalgic fans may think otherwise, or at least dislike many things about it, because of the ways it either differentiates from the classics, or isn’t up to their ideal quality or style. Asking for characters like Big and Shadow, though, I’ll never understand.
As for me, I’ll be happy with it anyways. The graphics are aesthetically awesome, the music is pretty alright (from what we’ve seen, and in spite of them forcing a retro-esque sound), and from what we’ve heard from a few sources (e.g. Nintendo Power), it plays fairly nice. It may not be perfect, or even have a classic sonic model, but chances are I’ll enjoy it anyways.

Oh, nevermind then. But why did you do that in the past? I don’t see the point. Anyway, music would bode well. And again, I’ll repost my suggestion of making Sonic 4 as difficult as Sonic 1. The audience you’ve been targeting, the ones waiting 16 years as lizuka put it, are grown up, and they thirst for more challenge.

Quoting article: “The Sonic community being as they are (which we’d like to define as generally awesome, creative, and dedicated)”
Have you been paying attention for the past ten years?
Theyve been saying that every sonic game since sa2 was bad, when the only bad ones were sonic riders and shadow the hedgehog.
Plus, when you finally give them what they want, they complain about the stupidest things like the color of sonic’s eyes, how the grass looks, and how he doesnt look old school. (and new sonic is better anyway. why should the fastest thing alive be fatter than a cow?)

And I challenge anyone out there who likes this drivel to listen to the music from S 1, 2, 3, and Sonic and Knuckles and tell me this garbage is anywhere close to being as good.
