Great update. The game has a nice look, but I sure hope you fix the horrible physics and make them more akin to the Mega Drive games. This game will bomb big time if they don’t get fixed, the reviewers won’t be happy!

Big deal. Everybody already knows ALL of that stuff thanks to that leaked footage and the leaked pictures all over the web. We know the zones, and even the XBOX 360 accomplishments. You need to catch up with the crowd. Why make a big announcement on the release of information we already know?
Splash Hill Zone – (The only zone on the site)
Casino Street Zone
Lost Labyrinth Zone
Egg Station Zone
Those are the known zones. And I don’t want to waste my time posing the twelve 360 accomplishments. All they are basically is beating the first zone in a time limit, collecting rings in special zones, beating about a thousand enemies, beating each level as super sonic, etc. So don’t get all (OMG) announcement….Everybody already knows about that stuff.

The player in the leaked video did that to avoid revealing Sonic’s blurry full speed animation.

@RubyEclipse I haven’t had the best week so far. Actually probably my 3rd worst on record. The release of the Splash Hill Music just scrubbed clean every ounce of negative feelings out of me. I’m literally about to cry with ecstacy. =’} thank you, Ruby, and ESPECIALLY you too Jun. (About a third of my iTunes Library is your music.)

@Chris K. – You must visit a lot of mainstream sites then. I try to avoid those. I’ll stick to my circle of 4colorrebellion websites and blogs, thank you.
@RubyEclipse – The music is a breath of fresh air, especially considering that Jun Senoue writes a lot of harder rock music for Sonic games. Limiting the music to what really feels like a 16-bit “palette” just refreshes the heck out of Sonic music nowadays. Hopefully all the other music doesn’t disappoint. Thanks for the free download!

Regardless of the leaks, I still like it when SEGA officially announces things. It feels more authentic and celebratory than to some random douchebag ruin the surprise for everyone. Companies can’t even keep their console plans safe anymore. Now you know something is messed up there.
Anyway, I’m really enjoying what little music we have. It’s very soothing and very Sonic. Good job so far Mr. Senoue.

Great update! The free song download is greatly appreciated! I love the music. I am looking forward to more video, though. This is shaping up to be a really good game (provided the physics are Genesis-style and not Rush style). Is it just me or does it look from the screenshot that you can do a homing attack straight from a red spring? Normally any “double jump” type move required two explicit jumps and not just pressing jump while already in the air. If this is true, then it is an interesting change. Keep the info flowing!

Amazing! The music’s good & we can download it! Really enjoy the tune, melodic & upbeat – very fitting for the first level of a Sonic game. Also liking what I see so far of the level design!
Only thing I’m not too keen on is all those lock-on symbols for sonic’s homing attack, get’s in the way a bit. A minor thing though.

I have a comment about that too…I can’t stand that long blue streak it creates. I love the game and looks…But a shorter streak time would be appreciated. It looks like your painting a trail all over the stage. -_-
Now a small wind affect around Sonic as he run’s top speed would be GREAT! Not like the blue burst of streaks in Sonic Rush games. Just like little white lines of wind passing by and behind him. ^^

…You people realize the ONLY reason SEGA has added the new look, pictures, info, and music to the site so suddenly is because fans already know about all that from the leaked gameplay video and such, right? Why are you thanking SEGA for their own stupidity in allowing an employee to leak stuff from their game onto the internet? That’s only encouraging them to hire more morons that will leak more of their stuff in the future. If none of you want spoilers, don’t indirectly thank them for allowing game content to be leaked out. -_-

Really cool site update!! It looks really nice, that´s a nice touch on your part. Being able to download the music is another good touch.
I hope the game is polished and feels more like a Sonic 4 than a Sonic Advance 4, but there´s at least one thing you should change: The campaign market and the form or revealing things are really really nice. I hope you keep on doing these kind of things, even if many of them are leaked before time.

Except that I do want “spoilers” Chris. Quite frankly, a few seconds of gameplay and screenshots won’t ruin the game for me. In the end, its up to you if you’re looking for new info or not. Don’t want to be spoiled? Don’t search. If I don’t get new info, I quickly forget about titles and just focus on titles with more info or one’s coming up soon. Lol, let them continue to screw up I say; Otherwise its Sin and Punishment 2. So far they’ve been capable of quenching my appetite for new information the most.

Sega this look great and reminds me of my childhood. I love it but the only thing, Please don’t name Robotnik, Eggman. I’m sure I’m not the only Sega/Sonic fan that want’s Robotnik back. Eggman SUCKS! I get it from the first Sonic adventure game Sonic was just trying to make fun of him by calling him Eggman but to actually name the character that is a little annoying. With that, best of luck and I hope this game turns out as great as it looks!

I genuinely think the only people eating up this new music are the ones who mindlessly think anything “retro” is cool… there’s more to it than just using an FM instrument set… and even then, the synths in this song and the title music have too much reverb or something…
I say again, like my earlier post, Jun Senoue did amazing work on 3D Blast for the Genesis, how can he magically just suck at trying to compose something that isn’t on a guitar? 6 channels with the YM2612, 3 with the PSG… just because the music is constricted, doesn’t mean it intentionally has to sound bland and uninspired.

Hm, it’s not bad, but I don’t know… I feel like there’s something missing. I think the song’s a bit bland and even a little monotonous.
If you spend a lot of time on the stage, you’d want a song with more variation.
Take the music for ‘Emerald Hill Zone’ in Sonic 2 ( http://bit.ly/2jXI5 ) for example: cool intro (before the actual song starts) uses lots of different sounds and instruments and doesn’t get irritating. Even after a long time of play.
The song is a little slower than the Sonic 4 song, but is more successful at delivering the emotions that the composer put into it. The song (including the intro) plays for 45 seconds before repeating itself.
Sonic 3, ‘Angel Island Zone Act 1′ song ( http://bit.ly/bGx46r ) is also a very good song with lots of variation and emotion. The song (including the intro) plays for a whole 1:06 before repeating itself.
Sonic 4 – Splash Hill Zone: No intro at all, and the song is only 35 seconds long. Same instruments/sounds play through the whole song. It’s faster than the Sonic 2,3 songs and doesn’t really deliver as much emotion in my opinion.
I wonder how Masato Nakamura (composer for the Sonic 2 music) would’ve done it?… (^ ^ )
PS: Music suggestion for when Sonic is invincible, make it something similar to the Sonic & Knuckels song ( http://bit.ly/bM9ozP ), that song it sweet!

I disagree with the ‘episodic’ release method. I don’t fancy paying 3 times (or however many episodes there’ll be) for one game. Sonic is fast and furious, it is not something that you play up to a point, then wait several months for the next bit. Some new levels wouldn’t have gone a miss either, instead of just rehashing old ones. This game looks exactly like the old Sonic games over 15 years ago with nicer graphics. Couldn’t you have given us a fresh, new, 100%-complete-package game?

@Adam – But if you think about it Sonic 1, 2, and 3 (& Knuckles) were all very similar in nature but people still favor one over the other because of a small feature added here or there.
I think that Sega is releasing a true sequel to Sonic and Knuckles and I’m utterly thrilled to see what they can do with the other zones.
This doesn’t mean I’m utterly convinced this game will be perfect, but one can always hope.

One question…The theme music for Splash Hill – Act 1…Is the same music going to be used for ALL of the acts for Splash Hill Zone or just in the FIRST act? I think in most of the past Sonic games, except for the first, each Act of each Zone had KIND of the same theme music, but was changed a little here and there. Like in Sonic 3, the first act of a stage had a certain theme music, and the second act had the same music but a more upbeat and kind of remixed feel to it…

Right! I hope it’s just the track for the act I.
If I’m not wrong, the game is supossed to have 4 zones, and 3 acts per zone, isn’t it? I wonder how would they remix the song 3 times…
What I really look forward, is the boss music. If it’s up to S1 or S3 boss music, it should be fine!

Actually, the game has been confirmed to have an extra zone, EGG STATION ZONE, bringing the zone total to five now. And in the leaked gameplay, the player selected SPLASH HILL ZONE, and it looked to me like there were FIVE or SIX acts in the zone.

Also…No offense to lovers of the boss music but I hated the boss music for Sonic 1 and Sonic 3. The only boss music I liked for the Genesis titles was the Sonic 2 boss music. I CANNOT get enough of that!!! Of man, to have that music remixed into this game as the boss music would be the BEST!!!
Like THIS remix for example…I would LOVE fighting Robotnik to THIS version…

The music it’s ok, it make me cry from happines as it really remeind me af old times.
The levels look very well done (very colorful, it look fantastic…) as well.
Now if you could please bring back the old Sonic you may really make the best sonic game ever. Anyway why SEGA, did you change the old charcter with this new one which everybody detest so much (I really hate those green eyes…); I didn’t said a thing when It appeared the first time in SA beacause I was blind by happiness to have seen my blue hero once again after a very long time…
Have you done some sort of secret agreement with some secret agency?
