The Big Sonic 4 News is Finally Here!Alright everyone – as promised, we’ve got some big news today! Let’s start with the biggest and (in my opinion) best news first: SEGA has made the decision to ensure that Sonic 4: Episode I is a game worthy of bearing the weight of its name. To do so, we’ve decided to extend the game’s development – and, for the first time ever, we’ve mixed internal suggestions alongside fan feedback to make some new, positive changes to the game. Yes, you just read that correctly. You’re not dreaming. Because of this, the game will now be releasing in the latter half of this year. Of course, we’re not the kind of people to just go and move a date around without something else to fill that void – so the news gets even better from here. 4th Platform AnnouncementThose of you with iPhones and iPod Touches, rejoice! Today, we’re also officially revealing that the fourth platform for Sonic 4 is indeed that lovely little device with enough apps to save the world. Finally, there are rumors that something very special relating to Sonic 4 is coming around a special date this June. You’ll have to wait a bit longer to hear the details, but rest assured that your summer is going to be far from boring with Episode I on the horizon. We’ll also have many more details on exactly what the new and exciting changes to the game will mean for the fans. On the SpotAnd that’s not all! You can check out today’s episode of On the Spot to see Ken Balough and me talk more about today’s announcement. We’ll discuss the development extension and just how important your feedback is to us! TrailerHere’s the brand new trailer for the game, featuring Splash Hill Zone gameplay.
Press AnnouncementSonic The Hedgehog™ 4 Episode I Release date and new platform confirmed!
SEGA is incredibly happy at the overwhelmingly positive response to Sonic The Hedgehog™ 4 Episode I from both press and fans around the world. SEGA wants to ensure that we’re delivering the best Sonic experience possible.
With this dedication to quality and the Sonic experience in mind, SEGA has decided to extend the development of the game and will now release Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I in the latter half of 2010. The additional time will allow the Development Team to focus on keeping the game high-quality, continuing tuning and balancing of levels and interface and overall maintaining the kind of polish that an important game like this demands, ultimately providing fans with an unrivalled classic Sonic feel.
Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I is developed specifically for the download market and will be available via Microsoft XBLA, Sony PSN, Nintendo WiiWare and the iTunes App Store in late 2010. Whether you’re excited about the news, mixed about having to wait a bit longer, or just happy to finally see some new content – we’d love to hear from you guys.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwYJUlgwnU8
Not understand why we say nearly half year, which will play in the summer 2010 and now tell us that the game will leave later this year. So much will change the game to have to wait six months more?
As for the Iphone, I would have preferred to have been the PC or the game is finally going to get physically.
At this rate Sonic 4: Episode III or IV will be released in PS4, Wii 2, etc.

To do:
- fix mid-air momentum (or lack there-of; letting go of left/right makes sonic stop in mid-air)
- fix loop physics
- tone down auto-play areas (spring spring spring booster rip-line booster)
- fix ground momentum (if it’s akin to Rush, Sonic actually slows down when rolling on the ground)
- fix the music.
The fact that this is delayed and that Sega is actually paying attention to criticisms is somewhat reassuring. I actually have more interest in the game now. Fingers crossed.

I thought the game seemed fine but that is only through pictures and videos that you provided.
You guys think this delay is necessary then GO. As in, GO WITH THE IDEA.

We need to do this “spending time polishing the game” and “incorporating internal and fan feedback thing” with Sonic titles more often, not just Sonic 4.
Of course, there’s a big difference between legitimate concerns such as “I’m not exactly sure how this Homing Attack is going to work in 2D” or”The psychics seem to be off” and whining over asthetics, such as “HIS EYES ARE GREEEEEEEEEEEEN!!11 RUINED FOREVER”. I can only hope you all can tell the difference, and listen to the fans that are actually willing to, you know, give you something solid to go on other than “This is going to suck.”

Hey guess what? That’s not big news. How the hell is that exciting to have the release date pushed back? Are you stupid? Keep sonic on a REAL gaming platform, not that apple crap. SEGA, I really think there is no hope for you in the future. You REALLY left us waiting so long for THIS? Not even cool. Give the Sonic franchise to someone who can make good games. Cuz you guys have proved time and again that all you do is disappoint. This better be a good game or I’m just gonna give up on Sonic, which I don’t want to do cuz I’ve always loved him so much. But you won’t stop KILLING him!

I am ok if you delay the game to make it better… so here my recommendation:
-More originality on badniks please, we love old Badniks BUT we also want new ideas around them
- More original boss fights. We fans love Green Hill zone boss, it is ok if you make a cameo like it but…DON´T use that system in the whole game!!! ORIGINALITY PLEASE!

Nice update. Perhaps a few bugs is needed to be fixed if that is what’s rearing to go for this game’s release. As far as the systems go for unleashing this game out onto the iPhone and iTouch, shouldn’t this game be available to download for the DSi, as well? I mean, the announcement is great, but the DSi’s to me seem to degrading for a Downloading Game Service, I’ll say.

@Paul Street You do realize that delaying the game is a GOOD thing. In which they’
ll try to IMPROVE the game and not dish out a rushed product like Sonic 2006. A lot of the fans who saw the leaks were worried and/or angry about how the game looked and performed. It looked sloppy

Extra development time is AWESOME news. At least they seem to understand that this game has a LOT resting on it…
Here’s hoping they:
a) Fix the music. Aside from Splash Hill, the leaked soundtrack is pretty bland…
b) Add more levels. Although Splash Hill, Casino Street, Lost Labyrinth and Mad Gear Zones all look nice, i’d like at least a FEW *ORIGINAL* levels thrown into the mix… (or a lavel themed on Ice Cap would be nice :p) 4 Zones just isn’t enough!
c) GET RID of the MINE CART LEVEL !!!!!!!
Boom!

Delaying the game and listening to the fans regarding the game (not its platform placements) is the greatest move you’ve made since you announced the game.
Please address our biggest concerns, and make a Sonic game that’s actually worth playing. You do get more money that way, FYI. Win-win for everyone.

You guys have got to be the worst fans ever. They’re trying really hard to make you guys happy. I look at comments about announcing the announcement: Oh cool, I hope they’re confirming the iPhone; actual announcement: Oh lame, all they did was confirm the iPhone.
Personally, I’m glad they’re delaying. It means that they realise that people care about this, and they’re caring too. Calm down, and quit trying to whine about every little detail. Face it, there’s little chance that classic Sonic is gonna come back. You know why? Sonic’s moved on. You don’t hear people complaining about New Super Mario Bro.s not having classic Mario…
Calm down, and give SEGA a break. I’m excited for this game, and I really think it will bring Sonic out of the hole he’s been in. So come on, applaud SEGA for once.
SEGA, ignore your whiney “fans,” and listen to the support from the real ones.

LOOK AT SMASH BROS. BRAWL, IT GOT DELAYED TWICE!! AND IT CAME OUT TO BE A AWESOME GAME!! ALSO COULD YOU PLEASE STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT SONIC’S DESIGN!! THIS IS THE CLASSIC SONIC!!

I see that the physics are still messed up. What the hell is that run animation when he’s chasing after Robotnik? Looks terrible.
And I have to agree with the other posters – copying the physics from S3&K would not be hard to do.

STEAM! It’s perfect for it. The worlds most anticipated download game on the worlds best download service!
HYPER SONIC! I love getting two sets of emeralds in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Really felt special.

To the conplainers:If you think you can do better than sega,go download Game Maker and try.

Props to Sega for wanting to do right by Sonic fans old and new. I’m glad to hear they’re releasing it on the iPod Touch. If I have to wait until the Fall to play it, oh well, no big deal. I can keep myself occupied until then unlike the idiots who prefer to complain about Sega-this and Sega-that. It’s taking longer not only because of quality control, but because of all the gameplay footage leaks. I hope I’m not the first one to think that.

I understand that delaying the game means they can improve it but the way SEGA have gone about announcing this has been utter bullshit. First they tease news through two perfectly good Sonic fan sites only to give them an announcement of an announcement rather than any actual news (obviously saving the trailer for Gamespot). Then they build this up to be big and exciting news when actually it’s a delay which is the most disappointing news they could have given instead. Rather than trying to blind us by PR talk I’d much rather they just have ousted their intentions as soon as they knew. I was really looking forward to a Summer release but announcing a release date of “late 2010″ isn’t a release date at all. Colour me disappointed.

So don’t put us all in the same category. And FYI, Brawl wasn’t what it was cut out to be. There was alot wrong and unbalanced with it. Why else would Brawl+ have been created?

Considering that I already have a large backlog of games to play and that there will be lots of other good XBLA, PSN and Wiiware releases during the summer, it’s actually somewhat of a relief. Especially because I don’t see much good stuff coming during the fall season (sorry guys but I don’t consider Halo and Call of Duty to be good releases).
Suggestions to improve the game eh? Well, here are a few I’ve been thinking of…
1. Get a new composer. Seriously, the music sounds sonic-ish but rarely if ever does the music match the sort of stuff from the earlier Genesis titles. Either that or do more remixes of classic themes from similar levels.
2. Make Sonic’s character model smaller. The fact that Sonic was small in the earlier games seemed to make him feel speedier, somewhat like a pinball or a bullet. The new lanky Sonic from the Adventure/Next-gen titles has lost this quality. I’d love a sprite-Sonic model myself, but I doubt that’s possible, but a smaller model seems like it could be done.
3. Time travel. Sonic CD is well loved but not very well known. Why not bring back Sonic being so fast that he can travel through time?
4. No Voice acting. Sonic’s current voice brought over from the 4kids cartoon is terrible. Please don’t bring him in and use the classic Genesis jumping side effects.
5. Final Boss: Either a giant Voltron-esque battle robot that Dr. Eggman rides, a new upgraded Metal Sonic with the power of all Chaos Emeralds or a tank from Valkyria Chronicles.

It is looking good, and I think Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will end up being a great game, and hopefully it will put to an end to peoples’ constant whining and complaining about recent Sonic games for a change. I like the Sonic franchise, and I enjoy playing both old and new games, but people don’t give it the good positive credit it deserves, and that just makes me sad. As for the delay, that’s not a problem because it happens with anticipated games often (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Super Smash Bros. Brawl got delayed many times before their releases): They get delayed because they’re trying to make said game as great as possible, and the same thing is happening to Sonic the Hedgehog 4 right now. This game will eventually be released, so nothing to worry about, and one thing to do right now is to be patient, like I do.

Just don’t give them goofy play mechanics.. they should all play kind of like sonic, only sonic runs the fastest and spin dashes, tails can fly, and knuckles climbs/punches stuff. They helped make sonic 3 and sonic & knuckles as great as they were. Not to mention there can’t be any 2 player modes without more than one character… and no 2p modes would definitely chafe me.JUST DONT ADD ANY OTHER LAME CHARACTERS!!

general over view
for the ppl complaining about the delay, plz stop. im disapointed too about the delay but its good!!!!! the main facter in segas bad games is not 3d or nessesairily all the new gimmiks/ charecters, its the fact that they rush it all and dont take time to properly utilize and setup those gimmiks and ideas and characters. so let them take there time, who knows, we might get a bone or two trown to us such as extra dlc. this gives time for sega to hammer out errors and test, also it alows for fans to input and possible shape the game to a larger extent, they were mostlikly already going to do i-phone seeing that it has a large amount of useres and people like it. for those who are wondering, yes there is alot of algebra and math involved in this. i cant say thit im surprised and im still waiting. i cant fully judge it untill i get to play it but with a few exeptions its looking good

First off, I wasn’t expecting Sega to release this game in the summer. That was too soon to make a good Sonic game.
Second, while I have no problem at all with the iPhone and iPod Touch being the other “consoles” for the game, the fact that they have their own special levels sucks. Sega, if you care at all about this new Sonic game, which you have specifically made for a real console, please, oh please make some special exclusive level(s) for the other systems. As it stands, having bonuses for the one system that isn’t a real console is a kick in the pants. Seriously bad idea.

The game looks like it plays itself *cough Sonic Rush HD*. This is barely anything like the classic sonics. why bother calling it Sonic 4?
the closest thing they ever made to sonic 4 was sonic advance 1.
except the horrible music
after that, the 2D games have just been speed. and the gene got passed to sonic 4.

The big news is that you’re delaying the game until later 2010? That’s it? I’m disappointed in you, Sega.
BUT I am happy that you have more development time. Since you have more time (about time finally), let me make a list of what I/we would like to see:
1.) Classic Sonic & Robotnik models in the game (could be extra DLC or in the options menu). Would be cool if you can go to the options menu & switch character models to be how you want so everyone would stop complaining.
2.) Less Speed Boosters &/or Springs (there are too many! They make the game look too easy & seem like it’s playing itself). I can probably go faster without a speed booster in 1-3&K. Why so many speed boosters?
3.) Bigger levels in level design (more pathways & the levels should be bigger than Sonic 3 & Knuckles). With each game the levels kind of get bigger & with more pathways. Why not make bigger levels with more pathways that emphasize on platforming that helps build up momentum to build up speed?
4.) No voice-acting (So far there are none & I applaud that). With no voice-acting, no one can hear any voices & there will be no complaints. Also you could use the extra data room for more content anyway.
5.) No overrated characters (especially Shadow, Amy, & all the other useless characters & NO NEW ONES). The ONLY characters you’ll need are: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Robotnik, & Metal Sonic. No more, no less. Please keep the cast down to a minimum (but for extra characters why not throw in Fang the Sniper/Nack the Weasel as a secondary antagonist in Ep. 3?).
6.) New Sonic 4 logo animation. The one that you have now, it looks cheap; it just appears & Sonic’s hand just waggles (like it was cut & animated). Why not just have a short animation of him popping up from the logo’s ring, get into his pose, & then start waggling his finger/hand like the old days?

where to start?
1) Please get rid of the homing attack. This is not a 3D game, therefore you are completely defeating the purpose of even having a difficulty. Considering the game already looks like it plays itself, why put in an attack that obviously wasn’t used back in the day? It’s absolutely pointless.
2) Change the Sonic character model. He doesn’t look cool like you think he does. It looks cheap and doesn’t fit in the game world.
3) Tweak the physics engine to match Sonic 2/3. The new video doesn’t show if the jumps are still floaty, but if they are, please fix it.
4) The first three games worked better in shorter levels, and I’d hate to see long drawn out levels take their place. Although, since you are releasing it as episodes, I also don’t want to get ripped off. Find a balance.
5) Add tails.
Hopefully you respect the criticism. It’s just about time someone makes another good Sonic game… although, I love Adventure 2: Battle… but that’s not the point.
Tip: Don’t make it like the GBA or DS ones. thanks.

With that out of the way, the way Sonic does the side flip in the air needs to change. It’s alright when coming off of a diagonal spring, but it’s annoying for everything else. There should be plenty of different aerial animations to keep it exciting and fresh.

One of the things that really irked me about 2d Sonic games after the first Sonic Advance was that you could never get Sonic to loop around his feet from simply running a long enough distance. You almost always needed to run through a booster or something to make him even get close to max speed. The Genesis games you could get to looping around your feet after going only a short distance, and boosters just cause your legs to loop around faster. Also, Sonic seemed to accelerate a tad faster in the games prior to Advance 2 and skid to a stop faster as well. This made him easier to control, and having good control is essential in 2d platforming games like the Sonic series. Improving the control is my main wish for Sonic 4. The rest, such as making Sonic’s leg loops less oval and more circular in nature are more about cosmetics really.

4. Tails in game, same with Knuckles.
5. If Tails and Knuckles is in game, give them Super form again, PLEASE. We never see them goes super in any new games, and they were amazing. Tails becomes super when he get 7 Super Emeralds, and Knuckles goes super, too. Don’t you even forget it!
6. If possible, release it on PC? That could be very wonderful!
Other than that, I loved everything in Sonic 4 except mine cart level so far!! =) Good work on Sonic’s running animation and everything else!

A Zune HD version would’ve been a little more exciting, though I’m still exclusively buying it on the Xbox 360. This delay should mean episodes one and two are coming out together (I know that’s untrue). I just hope they don’t add Werehog stages or punk rock music or anything like that. I suppose I can wait till late 2010, though. There are other games that will keep me occupied till then.

Ok Sega, you want advice? There are three pieces of advice I can give you.
First, Sonic games are about sound and music. The music from the Genesis era Sonic games is some of the most iconic from that generation. What you have done so far is good, but good isn’t good enough. It needs to be great. It needs to be out of this world. What I’ve heard so far is a competent attempt to imitate the style that “Dreams Come True” brought to Sonic 1-2 and Michael Jackson brought to Sonic 3, but it’s just not quite up to the same level of quality. I think with more time and effort it could be, but next time it would be great if you could put “Dreams Come True” back on the job.
Second, focus on what makes Sonic a game. In other words what makes it fun. Make every level as fun as you can possibly make it, and make sure every level comes together as a whole. The original Sonic games had very eclectic level designs, and individual elements were rarely reused in repetitive ways. Based on what I’ve seen from the clips, the new levels are too repetitive and rely too heavily on established gimmicks. There need to be surprises around every corner, and new ways to appreciate old ideas.
Third and most importantly, do what Yuji Naka would’ve done. Give the game that extra bit of attention to detail that can elevate a good game to greatness. Don’t settle for anything less than perfection.
If you do these three things in the time you have added to the development cycle, I have no doubt this new Sonic game will be the greatest yet.

My first suggestion would be to get rid of the intrusive bright red reticule used to indicate lock-on. Instead how about giving targeted enemies the shimmer effect that rings possess e.g. an inner glow highlight, just saying to make the palette/theme flow better. If that’s too hard simply making enemies flash when Sonic locks on would do the trick too. Then again why even have lock-on? If it has to be in the game though I certainly think there are better ways to convey the act of locking on.

I would like to see Sega release this game on STEAM…
HOWEVER, I think they should wait for 3 months after the other versions of the game have come out even before they announce it… So the game can sell before the filthy PC pirates know anything about it.

Sega, please change the music, it’s terrible. I know you guys have a lot riding on the retro feel, but that should only be kept if it’s not terrible.
Maybe you could make ‘Alternate’ Downloadable Content songs for the levels.
Also, add Hyper Sonic, as Downloadable Content.

Ok Sega. I think it’s wonderful that ur putting quality over money. If u need a couple more months to fix the physics, change the level design, or even add a new level, by ALL means. PLEASE take ur time. But…do NOT GET ME EXCITED 3 WEEKS IN ADVANCE WITH “big news” to tell me that SONIC 4 IS BEING DELAYED. That’s the second worse news anyone wants to get excited for. Oh and the iPhone?? Already knew it buddy. Sega….this better be worth every second.

I have good suggestion maybe as like a bonus level or one of the levels for the later episodes you guys could create Hidden Palace Zone (that level that was never released on Sonic 2) that would be so AMAZING!!! I would wait even longer for the first episode for you guys to make it for the first episode!!!

I hope with the delay things will not only be tweeked but added. Like the ability to use retro sprites, collectables throughout the worlds for replay value, lots of worth while unlockables like in sonic jam, a chao garden would be cool for multiplayer as well cause eventhough i love great single player some sort of multiplayer component makes me come back for more it game is short in lenght

Excited about 4…kind of. I’d be really excited if the past 16+ years of sonic didnt suck like a hoover vac on steroids. Sonic 4 looks promising, but his run animation seems slow, the cart level needs to be removed and final…. THE MUSIC…. The music style isnt there! Im sorry but the old school Sonic music was cool and made you love listening to it, but the music in Sonic 4 has reminiscent old school instruments, but no flavor to how they’re used. Take Sonic 1-2 Music. The stary night track, the casino zone, oil fill zone, the factory with all the sprockets… etc. They all felt great to listen to. The tracks in 4 dont move me. The turning into Super Sonic music isnt cool either… I really got annoyed by it. I want to love this game and I want to buy it, but if the delay doesnt fix some things, sonic is going to be a pass. Again. I almost bought Unleashed until you added werehoge mode… The demo you guys put out was flawless and I was REALLY going to buy it…It makes me sad Sega no longer knows what to do with the mascot that put them on the map. If Nintendo forgot how to make a Mario game, they’d be sunk in the water… Lastly, Even if you guys made a Sonic game based on the comics with the nothole gang, Id play it cause it’ll be different and a more serious tone to sonic if pulled off right. Maybe because I compose music Im harsher on bad music, but I asked around and a lot agree the music does nothing for them.
Give me the old school instruments and I’ll make something for you to point you in the right direction. I haven’t updated my myspace in forever but you can listen to some tracks there. They arent what you need though. For my video game music for something in the 2d style world, my tracks have a crazier style to their composition. Im a fan of Sonic and a game designer that makes game music.

Good news!
Well, if you want my suggestions:
1-Please, less autoplay, less spring, booster, etc. This kills the gameplay…
2- Add Tails and Knuckles. Everyone loves them both : )
3- More “Classic”, less “Adventure/Rush”. Ok, adv/rush was good, but the “classic sonic” put him in the pop culture!
4- Realy listen your fans. If they wan’t “no green eyes”, give the “no green eyes”. Blindly believe in the fans. Give them what they want, or you always will be listen complains.
5- Adventure/rush shield are ugly. Sonic 3 shields are nice : )
6- Please, more criativity, and less insecurity. Create news badnicks and bosses!!! Realy listen the fans, because NO ONE was like: WOOOOOWWW, THE OLD BADNIKS ARE BACK!!!!. Who like, was more like, “Ok, no problem, I can live with that…”
7- You actually heard someone say “Yes! Eggman !!!”? No! So, give us the Robotnick!!!!!!! This is a request so obvious that it seems you can not change the name because of legal implications, or something.
8- Do the spinning legs rounder, less oval.
9- Again: less autoplay-boost-spring-crap…
10- Make pools where we can vote for changes : )
11 – Good luck!!!!!!!!!!! : )))))
We’re just complaining because we love very much this blue hedgehog: )
Sorry my poor english, but I need to write, because I really realy care : )

Posting in hopes that this post actually makes it through. I forgot which email I used. So on the off chance this gets duplications, I apologize.
These are my two cents, Ruby and any other officials possibly watching.
As I said before, make the game harder. Your target audience is most likely in the age range at which ease of gameplay (I.E. what Miyamoto has been doing for so long) will no longer suffice. Don’t be afraid to place bottomless pits in some areas. Not saying you should do what you did with the Sonic Advances/Rush, but don’t listen to those complaining about them. Don’t be afraid of making some more; They existed before in the originals. Also, having bottomless pits at the end of levels only isn’t the right way to go.
Reduce the amount of rings in the levels, as we’re practically force fed them. This makes death by zero ring count useless, and there really isn’t any point of such an implementation if you will not utilize. Don’t be afraid of challenging your audience. They’ll get over it eventually when they’ve triumphed and will be happier for it. Also, fix the homing attacks ability to avoid penalties. Seems like you can do it on just about any enemy and it won’t matter. Shell cracker for example is easily toppled from the looks of it.
As for bosses, again, Splash Hill and Casino Street are too easy. They will not suffice. Either increase the length of the second phase, or make the overall boss more challenging. Even Sonic 2′s Casino Night’s boss is harder than Casino Street’s boss. Lost Labyrinth boss’s first phase is too easy. The player seems to be able to easily blitz through it without any trouble whatsoever. Second phase is fine though. The 4th boss could do to be a little more challenging. Increasing the length of hits it takes for the second phase would be nice.
The final boss looks good, although unless you’re going to improve on the bosses, the boss rush before hand is useless, especially considering, again…. the player gorges on rings like no tomorrow in that stage..

A couple of suggestions.
1. Include a harder mode with the option to disable the homing attack. Levels could be modified to suit this. It would add a lot of replayability and please more experienced players.
2. Having seen one of the bosses it seems too much like you’re working on a game that just copies the first few Sonic games. Robotnik is as well and good but when you copy/paste parts from previous games it doesn’t seem like you’re trying. We’re looking for a worthy sequel, not the same game we’ve already played the hell out of.
Other than that the game looks great.

I’m glad you have decided to listen to the fans. Systemize the demands and tips you get, and make polls. This will give you a clear indication of what most of the people want from this game. The genesis classics are the blueprints!

Let’s see, you’re running animation still looks like he’s skipping. The “full” running animation looks even worse than the jogging speed! I’m not going to bash you about the green eye Sonic to classic Sonic, there’s nothing wrong with updating but there is something wrong with the physics of Sonic for the last so many games. From the leaked videos we’ve all seen, your level design needs alot of work and tweaking. I really have no faith that you’re going to listen to fans. Really, when I think about fans I just think about bitch ass furries complaining about this green eye crap.

What a waste. The delay is no problem as most games get delayed, but all the hiding over the 4th platform and its just for the ipod. WTF? Hardly worth hiding is it? If sega listen to fans, prove it, ive seen many more people asking for a steam release then the ipod. More people have acces to Steam no? Last chance for sega to give sonic a good game and they mess it up. Poor.

Hey Sega,
This will be a ridiculously long post, but I just wanted to try and post my opinion in hopes that it will be heard among the droves of unreasonable fanboy posts.
1. You have no idea how excited I am for this game. I’m a big Sonic fan, and have been since I got my Sega Genesis console with Sonic 2 bundled in (I’m 24 now). I’ve played all of the Genesis Sonic games, along with both Sonic Adventures and a few Game Gear titles.
2. I support your decision to delay the game for quality control. While I am very excited, I would prefer you to continue your efforts in quality control than to rush out a game that isn’t up to snuff.
3. While your decision to actively listen to, and include, fan ideas into your game is very admirable and forward-thinking, I urge you to not let this decision compromise YOUR game. I’m sure you are aware of the many fanboys that just blurt off at the mouth any comment they see fit to make. They don’t have any constructive criticism, and the majority of their wants are for you to basically remake the old Sonic games. I hope that you filter out all of these ridiculous “demands” to find the few gems of good, concise ideas and criticisms on the internet. I would hate to see you compromise a solid game for just to accommodate a large group of people that, in all actuality, will probably complain no matter what you put out.
4. I only have one criticism from what I’ve seen so far. I don’t know how indicative the leaked game footage is of the final product (or if it’s even real footage), but I just had 1 concern about the Mad Gears level. It looks very similar to the Metropolis Zone in Sonic 2. Even the mechanic of turning the gear to move vertically through the level is lifted from that old level. I understand that you are using the older Sonic titles as inspiration for this game, but I just don’t want it to become a mash of old remade levels. That’s really the only concern I have.
I hope that this reaches you guys. Again, I am VERY excited for this game, and I look forward to seeing the new (and retro) direction that you take this brand.

Steam would kill for a game like this. While I do have a Wii, I don’t have WiiWare, and I’m not interested in getting it just for Sonic 4. You’re making a terrible development strategy, SEGA.

i’m happy that sonic 4′s coming out & all, but wouldn’t it make more sense to release it NEXT year in june to commemorate 20 yrs. since the series came out, like how sonic adventure 2 came out on dreamcast back in 2001, 10 yrs. after the series originally came out? plus, that way, some finishing touches can be added to it, like online play, or the addition of tails, for example

Colin – how can you seriously say that we won’t listen? We are delaying the game to make improvements BECAUSE of fan feedback. Let me be clear — assets go out, fans respond with what they think should be changed, we decide to delay the game to implement that feedback. You can’t honestly make a case that we won’t listen because we already have!

Well, seeing that for the first time, you are taking fan suggestions for a Sonic game (since many of us fans have said stuff many times before and the only request out of them granted in anyway is the ability to play as Sonic alone (though the Hogwolf, and I do mean HOGWOLF as Werehog is not the proper name as it means MAN HOG and Sonic clearly becomes a wolf, that was unnecessary (gameplay was okay though) and would have been better with the Sonic speed stages alone).
If Sega is to really keep true to their word, then I recommend the following based on what fans have already asked for, and also based on what I am asking for.
1. The 4th console was already leaked ahead of time, so most of us knew that us iPod Touch and beyond owners would be able to get it from the Apple iApp store, I think some bigger news like planning a port to the PSP and also one for Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS (especially as I heard it may have tilt controls) would have also been a good idea.
2. From someone making a leak of the entire game, here’s a little bit I need to recommend be changed and adjusted to please the more negative aspects that were already revealed. In the Casino Street’s second act, I think it would be best to remove that earn points bit as it doesn’t really seem like any fun, it just seems boring and that was already a huge problem of Shadow and especially Sonic Next Gen (especially with Silver’s stage of having to try to sink a pool ball.), the original trilogy was a ton of action and adventure which was never boring due to the many different obstacles and enemies you came across to make it even more necessary for you to think quick. Sonic Adventure’s Casinopolis suffered from the same boredom aspect of collecting rings, no one wants to do that.
3. On a second leak matter, I’m a little skeptical on Lost Labyrinth’s second act. It has potential, but the playability of it comes off as iffy. So I recommend making sure the level design of that as well as the tilt and button controls to it are made to be as fun, yet challenging (in a good way) as possible.
4. The level design of the game in general doesn’t seem to be as solid as Sonic 3 & Knuckles or as speed based as that game as well as Sonic 2. That will also need work to be a proper follow up.
5. To really make this a follow up to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I recommend mid-zone bosses since that was one what Sonic 3&K so much fun, facing a boss at EACH act and not just the final act of the zone. However, I also see that this follows the principle of getting to the Special Zone at the end of the Act like Sonic 1 and Sonic CD did, I guess it may not work for this one, but I still felt the need to suggest it so it could be kept in mind for the future or if an alternation to this game could actually be made.
6. Give the episodes the ability to be locked on to each other as a full game in the future like how Sonic & Knuckles was made to be locked on with Sonic 3 to make the complete full game of Sonic 3 & Knuckles (which I think it should have been promoted as more with the lock-on to Sonic 2 just being a bonus as it really was).
7. The boss music was dreadful, none of it had the impact that the music from the first 3 games had. The Boss music in Sonic 1 was good, the boss music in Sonic 2 was excellent, and the music in Sonic 3 was outstanding (including that Michael Jackson tune that was used in the act one boss when Sonic 3 was played on it’s own), they felt like action was going to happen and it was a battle. The music I heard for the boss in Sonic 4 did not sound like a battle at all, it just sounded like a mini-game or something. The Boss music in Sonic 3 is regarded to me as the best, especially the Final Boss tune where Sonic fights the giant Eggman robot or when Knuckles fights Mecha-Sonic before he goes super. It would be nice to have something on equal grounds as that.
8. This one is the oldest complaint I have seen, but as people I see still seem to be bringing it up, I may as well too since even I wanted this when I first saw the trailer and was disappointed due to how the game was promoted and hyped. Takashi Izuka’s comment in Nintendo Power shows Sega’s occasional lack of thought. It doesn’t matter if this is a new Sonic game, it can still use the classic Sonic designs. The point of this game is to look, feel and play retro. I no longer have a complaint on the pre-rendered CGI graphics since Donkey Kong Country and Vectorman came out like right after Sonic 3 & Knuckles did, so I say this is nostalgic in terms of keeping up with those times, but in HD. However, Mega Man went back to his old kid looking drawn designs in Mega Man 9 & 10 when in previous games, he was made to look muscular in Mega Man 7 and 8. His art style from I believe Mega Man 4 to 6 was one again drawn to go back to Mega Man’s visual roots as the fans loved him. I also believe that SquareEnix went back to classic designs in Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. All of those where new games, yet they had visual nostalgia as well as gameplay nostalgia. One other thing I will mention for an example on this is Johnny Bravo. The first Season of the show had more cutsy designs, but the second and third seasons, it used more edgy designs to try to look “hip” and such, but in Season 4, it went right back to the cutsy designs despite being newer episodes made after new designs were made. One last example is Epic Mickey, Mickey is getting his classic look back in that (albeit with some modifications). This game is being made to reflect the Genesis era of games after all, and since it takes place RIGHT after Sonic 3 & Knuckles and way before Sonic Adventure, it just seems to make sense. I think using sonic’s taller yet still classic design from the cover art of Sonic Jam could be nice. Many of us were lead to believe that we may see Classic Sonic as the second featured character on the site. Seeing in the end that it was Eggman is kind of a cruel joke as we all knew that Eggman the main villain in the game, so keeping that as a hidden character and then showing it to be someone we already knew was, in a way, mean. So I think allowing Classic Sonic to be unlockable, downloadable, or a selectable option in general would be a nice touch for some classic Sonic purists so the game can also VISUALLY appeal to most everyone (and this should go with Tails and Knuckles in episodes 2 and 3 as well since they were hinted at, Tails used to be so adorable when he was classic).
9. This one is truly just a nitpick suggestion, but I’ll say it anyway since I can see that the storyline of Sonic 3 & Knuckles was written incorrectly (Knuckles’ adventure takes place AFTER Sonic and Tails’, many signs in the game have made that quite clear. Coming from the company that created and owns the game, I’m disappointed at Sega’s own lack of consistency, like a lone surviving Egg-robo seemed to have been behind restarting Eggman’s work on Angel Island, but in the end, it turns out that it was Mecha-Sonic all along, having survived his encounter with Sonic and Tails, which was actually pretty cool in my opinion). For any future planned characters, characters that can not be included are as follows: Amy Rose since it’s been made clear in Sonic Adventure that she hasn’t seen Sonic since the events in Sonic CD which I can tell take place after Sonic 1 and before Sonic 2, and I know Amy was in some of the racing spin-offs like Sonic Drift and Sonic R, and even the Pico game Sonic Gameworld, but that is all those were, spin-off, they were not made to be in Sonic’s official canon I read, seeing as how this game is meant to be, it’s best to keep accurate consistency. Shadow, Rouge, Cream, Blaze, Silver, The Babylon Rouges, Big, Gamma, Omega and such since they were all introduced to Sonic and his friends at Sonic Adventure and up, and since this game takes place before Sonic Adventure….well, it speaks for it’s self. The characters I see fitting in aside from Sonic and Tails are as follows: Fang the Sniper since he haven’t seen him in forever and he fits in with the timeline, Mighty who we also haven’t seen in a whille and he was in an arcade game with Sonic and Ray, and Ray is another character who I say is possible, Vector, Espio and Charmy are also possibilities since I think Knuckles Chaotix happened right after Sonic 3 as well, so it COULD work for the time line. Maybe this could be Bean or Bark’s storyline debut since they was only in the fighting game spin-off (which again, I know had Amy, but it’s steal known as a spin-off and not in the main canon from what I remember), and finally, Metal Sonic, I would love to see another 2D game with that robot. So any of those characters aside from Tails and Knuckles (since I KNOW Tails and Knuckles will be there as they are the fan favorites, all of Team Sonic is). Of all mentioned, I would truly love to see Fang or Mighty make a return, I haven’t seen them in forever, THAT there would be some excellent fan service that would convince many fans to buy the game.
10. Here’s another nitpick suggestion which matters way less then the previous one, but if you are listening to the fans, I want every suggestion to count
. The part on Eggman having budget cuts, how does that make sense? He’s a criminal, he doesn’t pay for anything, he steals or uses what he finds to create all his robotic wonders (even reusing materials from robots of the past), I think that should be left out and maybe switched to Eggman being in a rush on some of them or something.
11. This too is also a minuscule nitpick (and even more so then the last one), but hey, this is kind of fun when Sega says they are going to listen to the fans for once XD. The music when Sonic is drowning, I’m not actually happy with the fact that it’s a remixed version of the one used in ALL 3 previous Sonic games. If by number, this is supposed to be the next installment in the Genesis trilogy and it’s using Genesis styled music, I think it would be best if the exact tune from all 3 previous games was still used, it’s much more nostalgic and it’s consistent. I also recommend this with the victory jingle when Sonic clears an act, I think it should be the same exact version from Sonic 3 & Knuckles, since Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 I believed used the exact same one, so in terms of being twos, it would I feel again add to the consistency. One tune I WILL say that has to be kept consistent is the tune when Sonic acquires a Chaos Emerald, that’s been in all 3 Sonic games, I want it to be in Sonic 4 too.
12. Sonic needs an opening animation at the title screen. All 3 Genesis originals gave him an opening animation. All I saw was just a Sony Vegas or Adobe Flash thing of the same image of Sonic’s hand waggling. I just don’t see the game as a true follow up without that aspect in the title screen. Even Sonic 3D Blast had an opening animation and that’s not even canon.
13. 4 Zones in an episode I feel is kind of short (though as this is 3 episodes, if they include the lock-on as I recommended, then maybe it will be okay. All Sonic games had 6 or more zones, if all 3 episodes at least have 4 episodes, then I guess it does even out to the number that Sonic 3&K together had.
14. I recommend bringing back Sonic’s super peel-out from Sonic CD, maybe make it faster then the spin-dash if one just desires speed over a speedy attack.
15. I would like the score, ring and time counter to reflect the Genesis games and not the Sonic Advance or Sonic Rush games please. Advance and Rush were a different generation of 2D Sonic games as many people have mentioned and agree upon, so I would like to see less reflection on those newer games, and more reflection on the original Genesis games.
16. This one is kind of stupid so this will be the final suggestion, but why not. Maybe some of the SonicRetro.org game fan game designers could help out since they have done great with fan projects before, and they know what made classic Sonic good and what to usually follow up with.
That is all I have to say, I highly doubt that you will take ALL of this into consideration, but I am one of the fans and have been since I was 6 years old which is when I owned and played Sonic 1 and then played Sonic 2, Sonic CD and Sonic 3&K. I’m just giving my input like all the other fans are trying to do, and I just made it as long as possible as I didn’t want to waste any chance I could possibly have on any possibilities. I’ve seen many here with both many of the same opinions and many differing opinions and I’m sure people will both agree and disagree with my suggestions here. As I said, in most of the last suggestions, they were just nitpicks, but to me, every suggestion counts, otherwise, what would Sega truly do to know how to please the fans? So whatever can be mixed in for what is important and also what would help keep near all the fans happy is what I truly hope to see. I wish Sega and Sonic Team luck on truly trying to give us older fans as well as the newer fans a great Sonic game that can please every generation of fans that have existed.

And that’s how good games are made and I’m proud of Sonic Team and Sega for finally taking this step to be on par with many of the companies that have always tried to give the fans (old and new) the elements that they would like like Nintendo and Capcom have always done (especially Capcom). I would love to see Sega become the empire of gaming that it once was again, and this game could be a helpful start in that direction, which makes me even more proud then ever that this is the game that Sega and Sonic Team chose to be the FAN’S GAME. ^^

OK Sega, if you intend to put off the game even longer, then port it to PC and put it on steam. A ton of Xbox360 games get ported to PC, don’t they? As far as I’m aware the software isn’t all that different either. But come on! PC users cannot be ignored!

I really enjoyed Spax’s comment #153 and agree with many of the points listed. Please listen to Spax, Sonic Team. I for one don’t like the idea of going back to Sonic’s old design.. but that’s just a picky cosmetic opinion I have… other than that though.. you sound closer to the type of Sonic fan I am, and I’m extremely happy about that. That means there may be more people out there with similar thoughts. Thank you for taking the time to contribute here.

First thing’s first. Just add a classic Sonic model to the game. Make him unlockable like, after you collect all 7 emeralds and beat the game. Then a little notice can pop up like this saying:
“Thanks to the many fans who made Sonic 4 possible and such a huge success. Now here is a reward! A special blast to the past gift from all of us at SEGA and Sonic Team! Enjoy Sonic fans! See you next Episode!”
Then another notice can pop up afterwards saying:
“Congradulations! You can now play as Classic Sonic!”
And boom. All the fans will be down on there knees crying your name and praising you.
Second, fix the running animation. Make it take less time to get to full, blurry leg speed. I doubt anyone wants to just be jogging through most of the level and only ACTUALLY dashing for a split second in each stage. More blurry dashing please.

And, oh yeah, the boss music. It wasn’t used in Sonic 3D for a REASON you know. You people at SEGA probably knew Sonic fans wouldn’t like that song, and that’s why you cut it out of the game and used a better one…So why did you think using it in Sonic 4 would make it any better? Use that music in Casino Street if you like, but NOT as the boss theme!
Try using a remixed tune from past Sonic games. Something like THIS maybe would be perfect. Old school and classic, yet modern and new.

I don’t care if this gets delayed a bit longer to fix up glitches that could ruin the fun of this game.
However i do care about how Sonic looks.Bring back the Classic looking Sonic like from the days when it was just Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Robotnik i will never refer to him as Eggman, If you must you can bring Amy back as well as Metal Sonic if you wish. But that is where things should stop.
Also please make this at least a 2 or 3 player Platformer game. Also one thing even if it is a Classic game that needs to change is don’t make the players stick together. If one goes into the Special Zone then not all of them should go unless they wish to.
Also with the Music bring back some Classic Theme Songs please.
The Graphics well i like what i see but it is missing that classic old school sonic the hedgehog feel.So fix it.
Well that’s all i can think of for now.

If you’re delaying it, bring back some old, classic, nostalgic songs from the original games. Enhance the physics, but avoid something like in NSMB Wii, where you would slide on everything and momentum and all that. Keep it fun and simple. The speed! That’s something Unleashed did right. Give us the speed back. Boosting and all. Make sure if a main enemy besides Robotnik shows up (oh yeah, call him ROBOTNIK) make sure it isn’t Shadow or the gizoid or something. It’s Metal Sonic or bust. Metal Sonic was, besides Robotnik, Sonic’s first true rival, and his toughest one at that. Oh yeah, that brings me to another point; Don’t make it easy. Or, perhaps, add a difficulty setting. I’m tired of the games made for kids and are too easy for older people, and then the ones for older people come out and the kids curl up in a ball and start crying. I’m sure old time players and new ones will be playing this, so give them that choice please.

Sonic’s high-speed running should not just have a second layer of animation on top of his regular feet. It just looks a little too sloppy. Please go in and give that a fix. Thanks!

Please:
- Don’t give it the Sonic 2006 feel where the game just plays its self.
- Make a version where people can go to the store and buy the game and not download it not everbody has the privilege of online gaming.
- Change the in-game camera its far too close to Sonic I can’t really see whats in front of him.
- Make Tails a playable character or let him run next to Sonic just like in Sonic 2 and Sonic 3.
- LISTEN TO THE FANS!

Sega actually delaying a Sonic game to incorporate fan feedback? Well, this is a 180 that was unexpected. I’m actually supportive of this decision cause it shows that for ONCE, you people actually care about the quality of your products and understand that Sonic 4 should be a title that conveys the same amount of effort that was employed in the original games. So considering that you are accepting fans suggestions, here’s a couple of my own Id like to toss in the hat:
1. Fix the physics. There’s no dodging that fact, now that we’ve seen the leaked footage
2. Use longer music that doesn’t loop after 20 seconds. It just feels that the tracks were lazily composed in Garbageband within a couple hours with no passion. Sonic music is supposed to be catchy, engaging, high energy, while you giving you that sense of urgency. If a track loops within a short time, it becomes repetitive, annoying, and forcefully forgettable. In addition, a variation of instruments would be a drastic improvement. Its nice that the 16-bit repercussions are used, but they were overkill. I highly suggest going back and listening to the classic scores, including Sonic CD. A longer musical excursion would improve the gaming experience.
3, Adding some originality, especially with the level design and boss battles. The leaked videos clearly showcased that Episode 1 was basically Sonic 2 with a new coat of paint. Keep the aspects of the classic games but incorporate some creativity. Remember Sega, this is a sequel not a remake, reboot, or rehash.
Now most people know me as the person that initially complained about Sonic’s appearance over 3 months ago and I can understand if that animosity still exists with the fan base. But Im hear to finally state that those cosmetic issues dont matter to me anymore. In fact, the recent in-game model looks impressive. My only beef with Sonic’s design is with the actual Sonic 4 logo. The facial expression looks uninviting and that could be a detriment in terms of advertising.
Other than that, I hope the people developing the game will diligently address all the major flaws and I sincerely hope that the final product will be a worthy addition to the classic saga.

Mina, I think that’s a bit of an exaggeration. Just this week is SEGA week on Steam. Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, a game just released a few months ago, was released via Steam. We have entire franchises, like Total War, that are PC exclusive.
I understand that you are upset that PC was not the platform we announced yesterday, but to say that we no longer support PC is a bit absurd.

HAHAHA! You deleted my comment because I said you won’t listen or change anything! That’s hilarious! Oh Sega…fine, delete my comment and let it flood with Classic Sonic comments. Don’t fix your awkward speed into a wall with awkward platforming and terrible running animations. Yes, they are still awful. Why don’t you guys just use the old engines? Is it that hard to get Sonic’s jumping and all just right? Well I guess yes it is that hard since teams of developers can’t get it right for years but any internet guy can make a flash Sonic game with the correct physics.
I think your number one complaints that you need to fix are the physics and his running. They also seem to want an unlockable sprite. I want some decent looking level design. From leaked footage, most everything looks like slow you have to platform awkward situations. I loved certain Sonic games because you don’t have to deal with bad guys if you don’t want to and you don’t have to deal with platforming if you don’t want to either. Speed was your friend…running in fact…not floating and skipping.

The run animations should progress faster. It takes sonic way too long to get into the spinning legged phase!
Dump the mine cart level, that stage looked completely retarded. Please don’t add in garbage innovations just for the sake of innovations like sonic team does.
BRING BACK TAILS AND KNUCKLES!! Maybe unlockables, or DLC? I’d love love LOVE to play as knuckles (gliding, climbing, punching) or tails(flying, carrying sonic) in 2player mode. Even sonic(spin dash, homing attack) can have some extra skins like classic sonic mode or metal sonic. That would be super sweet and make the game MUCH cooler.

Allow the game to be compatible with sonic & Knuckles DLC on xbox live arcade, and let that be the way that knuckles is unlocked to play with! If the game had come out for genesis, I’m SURE it would have had the compatibility. Please make this possible with the new game too!

Anyway, for those that are worried about physics, don’t worry, they noted that they know physics are a problem, and that they’re fixing it. What I’m concerned most about is how easy it all looks. I’ve never seen a Sonic game that feeds you rings like this. You don’t even have to try to keep them.

I still want it for PC…
Maybe released on steam, alongside with a re-release of Sonic 3 (for those that don’t know, Sonic 3 & K has a port for PC… it is really cool, it has some decent save system, I finished it sevearal times
Altough I am still failing to get even 7 emeralds before hitting knucles stages… I suck at special stage :/)
When seeing the “mystery” fourth platform, I and some friends did a survey on the game design school that we study, about what they WANT to be the fourth platform…
Response (rough numbers, obviously, it was informal, and probably it is not precise anyway).
about 60% asked for PC version (plus if it has mac and linux port).
20% asked for sega own new console (nifty idea, but we knew that is not going happen)
the rest wanted misc stuff (like PSP and DS)
but NOONE wanted iDevices…

All that build up for this annoucement is a little silly.
No one cares about the iphone really.
People wanted a classic CONSOLE 2D sonic(and PC), sure its on the xbox but its still only an acrade game, meaning is it going to have as much work put into it as much as a disc game? Fans hope so because they waited 15 years for this.
As for the fan feedback in annoucement, it worries me more than anything because theres alot of silly fans out there who could ruin this, so allow me to give some feedback which I believe most fans want in sonic 4:
While the new level splash hill is ok there needs to be reference to the old sonics, something like angel island or south island references in the other levels.
Sonic himself seems just fine to me, I don’t have a problem with his eyes and the fact he’s a little taller than his classic self (Everyone grows up
)
Finally a suggestion which I think everyone will love:
I’ve noticed the sonic fanbase has different tastes in music, some like rock such as live and learn and some want classics like green hill zone.
So how about this?
Why not put fan remixs, old game music and sonic 4 music all into the game with a music selection option to choose what music the fans want to listen to while playing the game, they did it with SSBB and it worked great so I think everyone would want it in sonic 4.
If your goal sega is to gain ideas from the fans, why not ask them for they’re remixs for the game as alot of fans like them and I’m sure none of them will mind.

Most of the newer comments I am seeing here are kind of disappointing (save for a few like Luke’s, A Knothole Resident’s (who’s style is copied from mine since I showed him what I posted anyway)).
The most emphasis I am seeing is on Classic Sonic and a PC version. Now I agree that those would be nice features (and I even stated why Classic Sonic could be included and why it’s a good idea), but I think there are much more important aspects that could be included that I’ve only seen some of the earlier comments focus on, such as level design, music, and physics. I did like the comment on how this game should not play it’s self like Sonic Next Gen did, which is very true.
Some of the comments I am seeing make little sense, like a Hogwolf mode and the demands to include Tails and Knuckles. The Hogwolf I say is a bad idea as most everyone disliked that aspect of Sonic Unleashed (though I actually enjoyed it), and it’s been stated that there will be more characters in episode 2, and if this game is lock-on as I suggested it should be, then Tails and Knuckles would be playable in episode 1 at that point I am sure, but for now, it’s nice to see a game focus on the TITLE character alone, since I rarely see those anymore in this franchise. I think it’s a good way to slowly build up to the later favorites.
We have enough comments on PC and Classic Sonic as it is. Sega I know will notice them and I want them to so that area of the fanbase can hopefully be pleased. But come on everyone, really try to think about what needs to make this game work.
Try to really think of how this game could be great both gameplay wise and music wise as well (Music matters to me in games just as much as gameplay as listening to it is what encourages me to keep playing as it adds to the feel of the game as well as the excitement).

For the most part I’m fine with the music Spax. It’s not my biggest concern. I do think, however, the first phase was sort of a lazy attempt. All they had to do was take some music that was cut from a previous game, and remix it. Second phases is good, but too short of a loop. Same goes for the final boss theme; The loop is too short.
My main concern is ease of difficulty. While we’re at it, I’ve noticed that a great deal of traps in Mad Gear are sprint oriented, in which all it takes is a fast enough pace to not get crushed. They’re used rather liberally in Mad Gear. It would be nice if there were traps that you didn’t simply have to run your way past.

Well Sega, I’ll say this, opening up Sonic 4 to the suggestions of it’s fans was a bold move. It could help the game a lot but I’m sure it’s still quite a stretch either way. In doing what you have, you’ve certainly caught everyone’s attention, I’ll give you that. The real test, however, is analyzing all of this feedback and staying true to your word that there will be changes made to compensate for the postponing of the release. This game truly has potential and you’re very correct in stating that it’s got quite the name to live up to. However, the name of Sonic is not the pair of shoes that this game needs to fill. Sonic 4 has to live up to something far greater and that’s the very roots of this franchise; the first 3 games that created the name of Sonic the Hedgehog. That was your boldest step of all, to say that this game would be the sequel to a series of games that was matched, from first to last, only by the next game.
And so, that is what this game will have to do, hold true to its predecessors, match the legendary Sonic games with an equally stunning game. The greatest advantage you have in this scenario is the nostalgia that comes with all of the fans who have waited for this game for nearly 15 years. Utilize this to its fullest, you can only make a game of this significance once. Since you are now taking them, listen closely to all of the suggestions as if your reputation depends on it. If the members of the development team haven’t already done so, I think there could be few more beneficial ideas than to just play through the original games. In other words, do whatever is necessary, but do not let us down. This game, in my opinion, is the make-or-breaking point for Sonic.
Taking all of this into consideration, it may be easier for all of the fans who, including myself, have been looking forward to that day or so of summer set aside strictly for the game’s release. I personally respect Sega for their choice to make last minute refinements; for a game like this, I think anyone could ignore the “last minute” part. All of us can be patient for a little while longer if what we receive in the end is the game that will earn Sega our respect, not only for bringing back the game but bringing back the memories that each of us had when we first met Sonic the Hedgehog.
-Blackhawk
Reasonably, I’ve also included a few of my own suggestions in the event that this is read.
-I truly hope that Super Sonic will not be limited to only the notorious and stereotypical final boss fight. In the original games, if the player earned the Chaos Emeralds, they earned the right to blow through the stage whenever they so pleased.
-As I stated earlier, every nostalgic addition makes a huge difference. Even things as simple as a victory jingle (not remixed) or a sound effect adds to the overall feeling of the game.
-Pay close attention to the comments made about the game’s music. The original games had an unforgettable soundtrack and many would expect no less of this one.
-In the long run, be sure to make the games all able to link together. After finishing Episodes 1-3 I’m sure many people will look forward to a special edition version to be available (which could also spare you from cramming the Episodes full of bonus features).
-I’ve read several things about fans also wanting a more classic look (displays, sprites, etc.). The only thing I can say that might help there is that there’s nothing wrong with making the player able to toggle between a next-gen or classic look.
Aside from that, as a closing note, I’d simply like to thank you, Sega, for all of the work that has gone into this project and also all of the fans, whose constructive criticism will hopefully make this game what it was meant to be, a return of the “good old days”.

I actually do like most of the music for the most part, I just think some of it needs more effort. But your main concern is by one of the most important. I never saw the footage for Mad Gear (the leaked footage wouldn’t work for me at that point for some reason), but from what you said, that wouldn’t be good. I remember Metropolis Zone and how it required timing and attention, that’s more of what we need I believe.

Is this all the feedback that’s going to appear on here? “herp derp, green eyes, include classic Sonic. Fix the logo, his shoes aren’t red enough, derp derp”
It’s ridiculous comments like these that are keeping the game from being good. You have no idea what you’re talking about. Aesthetics are a valid and legitimate complaint.
Sega, you better, you BETTER put those 3D modelers back to work. Don’t you pretend like you didn’t hear the complaints about your atrociously ugly character back in February. And don’t you tell me that “it’ll confuse the kiddies”, it’s your fault for turning him into a freak in the first place.
It’s great that you’ve delayed it, now make it count. And don’t half-ass it by just throwing in an old sprite. We want a nice 3D model that is cute yet cool like Sonic originally was. Not one with floppy blue dicks for quills, a jellybean shaped body and an autistic facial expression.
Now get to work.

Uhh is it bad I’m probably more worried about them using fan feedback than if they weren’t?
Maybe because of the people shouting “SONIC SHOULD NOT BE A CAR I MEAN NEW AND GREEN AND SHOULD BE PUDGY AND BLOCKY AND ALSO ON THE SEGA GENESIS THE ORIGINAL AGES CONSOLE”
Don’t want to go through over 200 comments to see how people react, though.

If this is the forum upon which fans are being listened to by the devs, great, if not, job ONE- point the fans in the right direction now.
Job 2 – Remove all mention of Eggman and replace with Dr Robonik, as it should have been.
Job 3- Choice between HD and classic sprites
Job 4 – “Lock on” with Sonic 3&knuckles, Sonic 2 and Sonic so you can play those levels as HD sonic, if I have to buy them through XBLA again, I will.

Dear Sega, here are my responses to everything the fans are saying. These are my fan suggestions to either counter or support other fan suggestions. It is long. And it also has a lot of other silly things because I am sarcastic and insane. Hey, it’s like a test, if you can tell the difference between actual and sarcastic suggestions, you can tell the difference between good and bad ones!
ALSO SORRY IT’S INFINITY LONG, I AM A VERY COMMENTATIVE PERSON! I never actually saw the leaked stuff, though.
I don’t think the Homing Attack is going to be a problem, I mean maybe you’d rather have that thing Hyper Sonic did where he dashes in the air in a direction but I dunno. If anything the main problem with it will be if there’s not an option on the Wii and PS3s to not have it all motiony. Somehow, I don’t think it will be wonky, though. (Although the different aerial attacks from the elemental shields from Sonic 3 & Knuckles would be nice, and probably better than Homingtimes).
Oh I don’t think “we’re pushin’ it back” is the big news, it’s the fact they’re using fan suggestions?
Also the special news in June will be it’s being delayed to mid-2011!
Also my fan suggestion is a text version of the interview to read!?
Oops, I read somewhere someone suggested that Sega wanted people to find the leaks so they would have that instead of updating the main site. Well, maybe they wanted people to find the leaks, then use the suggestions from that event to change the game! It was all a part of their big plan!
Some people are saying “more levels” but I assume that the later episodes will have more levels. Like… as a download, it’ll probably not be a lot (10, 15 dollars?). Let’s say it’s 10 dollars. 5 episodes is 50 dollars, the price of a… well, a Wii game, anyway. 5 episodes, 4 levels, that’s a total of 20 levels. It’s just in spurts. It’ll be drawn out. You won’t play it all at once.
…but releasing all the episodes on a disc at the end would work, too.
Comment 97 remarked it would be funny if they made Sonic obese. It’d be like the beginning of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts! ;o
Anyway, every single platform that takes video games should have the game!! Even ones that have been discontinued!!
Another comment mentioned the time travel from Sonic CD, which I think was too complicated a gimmick and was mostly annoying. Anyone who wants to throw rocks at me for not thinking Sonic CD was really that great can. Anyone who wants to throw asteroids at me for liking the Sonic Rush games more than CD is not welcome to, however.
Sega should probably not read any comments not using proper grammar. Just saying those don’t seem to be any helpful to anyone.
Also, to anyone who prefers the name Robotnik to Eggman, which I’m sure they’ve been yelled at before but anyway Eggman is the dang original name. The US was weird and changed it to Dr. Toadstool or somethin’.
Also I do have to say it releasing on the iPhone does seem entirely stupid.
Also also also everyone did you know, new super mario bros. was a TERRIBLE game because it wasn’t an 8-BIT and MARIO was 3-D and WASN’T made out of BLOCKS and GIANT PIXELS what was WRONG WITH THEM
I’m sorry but there’s something wrong if people complain about that in one fanbase but not the other.
Comment 164: Nintendo forgot how to make a Mario game when Super Mario Galaxy came out.
Okay guys I am going to go around yelling that I want Sonic to have green eyes and having not-green eyes is a bad idea and he shouldn’t be a Mickey Mouse.
Also you guys can have Robotnik if there’s an option to change the language to Japanese so I don’t have to deal with the stupidity of video game localization in the early ’90s.
Well, some challenge is nice, but don’t make it TOO hard. I won’t mind bottomless pits if it’s not a bottomless chasm that engulfs an entire stage like Mario sidescrollers love to do. And as long as I get some rings for the final boss I’ll be fine–I STILL can’t beat Sonic 2′s final boss.
Oops oops no one ever realized “to revisit and refine the best of his creations in an effort to finally rid himself of Sonic!” meant he’d re-use his old stuff.
Oh yeah, mini-bosses were always cool. I never even liked the idea of bonus stages at the end of the level. In fact, in what is my opinion both the best method of getting to special stages AND the best special stage were the one in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
I think bringing back any character who was in the older games but stopped being in them… is a bad idea! They disappeared for a reason. However, Team Chaotix returning in Sonic Heroes made them some of my favorite Sonic characters (as I had not met them before), so I guess it wouldn’t be too bad, but I still figure just the core characters–Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Lord Crump I mean Eggman–is all that’s really needed.
That and this is mostly responding to Spax, comment 187, but Sonic 3D Blast wasn’t canon? Hm. Didn’t know that. So… isn’t it possible to say that the games Fang appeared in aren’t canon either, and thusfore… well, I’m just wondering here.
Also, I won’t mind the… Super Peel-Out? That’s what it’s called!? Okay. I wonj’t mind that being in there. Just make sure the spin dash isn’t terrible like it was in Sonic CD.
If you unlock classic 16-bit pudgy Sonic for beating the game 100%, I am going to speak really, REALLY sarcastically while Let’s Playing this game when I unlock it.
Colon has a point, I liked Sonic games as I could avoid the platforming aspect of sidescrollers. It’s like with Kirby games, I can just float, float, float and not platform. The Sonic sidescrollers were never really platformy.
To finish (yes, it ends), don’t make it too easy, don’t make it too hard, don’t make it too much of a copy–find a balance between hard and easy difficulty (it’s called medium), and find a balance between the old feel and new design. …as long as that design doesn’t have a lot of gimmicks. What’s this I hear about a “mine cart level”…

Hello, here are some ideas/ suggestions:
1) Give us the choice to play Classic Sonic or “HD” Sonic (the later is not bad… he’s just not… well, Classic Sonic…)
2) Give us the Genesis-Era physic.
3) Remove the homing attack; any way, from what I saw in the leaked gameplay, you could still acces most areas with simple jumping and precice timing, like in the good ol” days. That way, the game will be harder, but oh much more rewarding!
4) The music is good, but not memorable… yet… Keep the tone of the tracks, but make sure that they become classic like the other songs… And contrary to others on this blog, don’t look at the Sonic CD songs. They’re good, they don’t feel …Sonic to me.
5) If you plan to put more characters after episode 1, stick to Tails and Knuckles, Blue, Yellow and Red, the three primary colors… for a Sonic game, that is!
6) Let me be clear, repeat after me; RO-BOT-NIK , one more time; RO-BOT-NIK. thank you
6) Classic interface, the menu looks way too much like Sonic ’06. It looks like it belongs in Modern warfare 2 or, I don’t know, Iron man… but not Sonic.
7) Keep up the good work
Thank you! By the way, I CAN’T WAIT!

Oh, you could just… um… not use the Homing Attack.
Yeah, don’t look at Sonic CD songs.
Yellow isn’t a primary color go take Physics.
Let ME be clear, repeat after I: TOAD-STOOL. Hundred more times: HYNE–

Whoo!Sounds cool. Good idea, pushing it back. I wonder what your gonna put in there…?
My (and maybe other people’s) opions on what should be in the game:
-Bring back the Bosses like Silver Sonic, Metal sonic, (or more than likley) mecha sonic!
-Try to add a few custscenes, more than in “New super mario bros.”
-Finally, top it all off with bonus stages! Everyone loved the bonus stages! (I liked the UFO one from sonic CD, but oh well.)
—————————————
Good job too on adding it to the iphone or ipad.
People with those will get it if they don’t have stations.
And good job at working on graphics, this time you are trying your hardest to please fans! So thank you SEGA!
(and a P.S to all you haters of everything SEGA does. they are trying. and if you can’t see that, then i feel sorry for you.

Suggestion:
-Classic character : It would be cool to have the option to play ( in every episode) as “classic Sonic” (the one from Sonic 1 to 3 but in 3D) and classic Tails and Knuckles as well. A lot of people want that, here a proof:
http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/bring-the-classic-sonic-to-sonic-the-hedgehog-4.html
-Hyper Sonic (or a new super form like: master emerald sonic or something for the last episode) :Hyper Sonic was relly awesome and it’s a shame he was in only one game but since regular sonic have a homing attack he should have more power in jis hyper form.
-Metal and Mecha Sonic : I want to fight them again (or race them again).
-Super Peel-Out and Super Tails Spin:the super peel-out was fun and i just invent the STS. It would be cool if in the later episode Tails could charge a flight from the ground.
-Bring Fang/Nack the sniper back: i know that it’s complicated (i heard rumor on the internet all the time) but it would be really cool to fight him again.
-The shields power up: the different aerial attacks from the elemental shields from Sonic 3 & Knuckles would be nice.
-Stage design: I really want to have more stage where you have to think a little not just “juicing without thinking” kind of like Marable zone (the pushing objet thing from the fist zone) or Carnival night zone (the tricky cylinder part).
-Character abilities: Sonic sould be the fastest, Tails should jump really hight and Knuckles should push the object really fast and can pick up object to trow them to the ennemies or to move and object faster.

The game looks amazing, but it can be inproved. These are my suggestions:
- The option to choose between modern Sonic with Homing Attack or Classic Sonic without Homming Attack.
- Do something with Lost Labyrinth Zone Act 2 (the minecart level) to make it more enyoable.
- Make the physics closer to Genesis Sonic games.

well ! i told that on sega forun and a tolk again in here !. sega acn make one add on hardware for next gen conoles.. that add on works like hardware emulator!.. how thats works? lests go!!
thats hardware heave one processor! thats processor convert the original game language to native console language ( like adaptator to play master system games on genesis megadrive ) well thats hardware ( well lets doa name for thats hardware … i sugest “segaware”) the segaware heave one cartridge reader and dvd rom reader and can must be plugged on usb port of consoles… and ready and run the original sega games in your original language.. tha hardware converts this language to nactive language of videogames .. but for it´s works the segaware needs one dvd rom whit software to call and control the add on ! whit that sega dont need make ports.. sega needs only make one game whit one language and one engine ! and thats works on all sistems ( incluided pc ) but is needeed make one segaware version for xbox , another for wii, another for ps3, and another for the pc! whit that sega can remake the classics whit not ports and stop the leakes and pirate games ( for one time ) and go back the original cartridges and cd rom games for públic heave old consoles and for public heave new consoles all just like originals and dont make cust whit ports !! ( i now i now i heave bad english but i go study i promess!! ( after my monograpy and my web class development and game class development ( and another healt ploblems )) but for now i nedd call thats ideia )

FINALLY! I’VE WAITED FOREVER FOR THIS!!! VIDEO FOOTAGE ON SPLASH HILL! But I am a bit annoyed that the game isn’t coming out on DS, that would be the perfect platform for a game like this: if SEGA can put all 4 classic Sonic games on the Nintendo DS platform, I cannot see why SEGA can’t put the sequal to these fantastic games on the DS. Some people have waited long and hard for this game, and when they heard it’s on the internet, people were let down because of the fact that they don’t have internet. The DS would be ideal, and if not, the PSP would be a good shot.

It looks really nice!, But i,ve been a sonic fan since 1991, and i practicaly lived the original levels of both the megadrive , mastersystem and mega cd. I think what will make us all happy is to bring that mobius feel back into the game. Levels like Casino night, aquatic ruin, sandopolis and most notably Lava reef and Hidden palace zones of sonic and knuckles. Those levels i still feel in my heart, and they still give me goosebumps as sonic encounters more and more exotic zones. No more people in sonic games please!, or quests. Just mind boggling besar and fast game play. To my perspective, sonic games never needed narrating or voice overs, as the Zones and bosses told the story to us. Sega, Sonic will appeal even to adults if you bring back that simple pure sonic feel, So Dont disappoint your precious sonic Fans who live in those zones you craft.

I have the wii… but alot of people can’t afford to get the new consoles so it would be cool for them. Hmm… not really sure about anything as of now.

Good god, everyone just STOP WHINING ABOUT SONIC! Putting classic sonic in this game would be the STUPIDEST continuity error SEGA could possible make. I’m tired of everyone complaining about how SEGA is filling the gamer world with unneccesary crap like Sonic Unleashed and Sonic and the Black Knight. These were two of my favorite games because I seem to be the only person who does not lose my ability to overlook mistakes when Sonic gets involved! Of course there are things I don’t like about 3D Sonic games, and there are things I already don’t like about Sonic 4, but SEGA does nothing but work their heads off their freaking shoulders to sastify you and you constantly reject them for the ABSOLUTE STUPIDEST REASONS!!! SEGA and Sonic, I want you to know one thing. I will never EVER lose faith in my supersonic blue hero.

The game sounds awesome but I was wondering bout if they made a game kinda similar to sonic heroes but more fixxed i mean they could do it.. about 1/25 people probably wouldn’t like the idea and I would tell those people to seriouslly shut up. I think of fixing things to the better. don’t make it the main story line like a “side-on” game for fun, the people out their who wants it, and tha kids who don’t know anything bout sonic to finding an extremely awesome new way of sonic. I mean u hv Sonic 4 which tells everything bout sonc and generrally him and eggman. the sub characters were for fun and to make sonic interesting. sonic is up against mario and should be experiment and improving their games like sonic 4. not……. like sonic and tha secret games. no story book. idk wat u were doing their like stick to a sonic like root.

Alrite its me again and if u listen to my last comment then I want to talk about another “sonic heroes 2″ First a recreation of Green Hill Zone. U never really put it in sonic heroes LIKE Its the FIRST SONIC LEVEL EVER. it’s an important basis. U need it. Second the teams were good… but, need to step it up a little, out of the games u made u could better inhance tha characters like, knuckles swimming for instants and tha teams being able to tell their partners to stay so they could do things on their own instead of letting the robot ubduct them and carry them away( like in sonic heroes). That would be pretty beast. Next, is the new teams thing, If u were to make another one I wouldnt just hv the same people and here are my ideas. NOOOOOO Babylon people. they’re in a whole different sonic universe I wouldn’t know how to include them in anything but sonic riders. anyway here they are:
Team Silver: (Can’t think of another name)
Silver (Fly) *(Swim)
Blaze (Speed)
Fang (Power) *(Swim)
First of all I can’t think of a reason blaze comes back from the other dimension and silver reasons cause thts to hard. But Fang makes a come back and happens to find them and finds the treasure loving of the sol emeralds…. which silver is looking for. I guess. got to think bout tht. Tha first time I ever seen fang was sonic fighters and I thought he was kool. but really never seen him after tht. I know he was in other games but he kinda dissapeared. he has a gun tht shots out caps so u could get created. silvers telekin…. could lift thing and fly both his partners and throw them at people. Yea.
Team Eggman:
Dr. Robotnick (Eggman) (Fly)
Metal Sonic (Speed)
Metal Knux (Power) *(Swim)
Ok. sometime when I see metal sonic I think of another wanna be sonic. his evil intention isn’t so dramatic I think because its a kidz game?? BUt metal sonic does hv somthing diff than sonic. tht diamond shield like think could be a powerful attack and the thing in the center of his chest. Eggman offcourse isn’t going to be running he’s flying in his hover thingy. with tht he could fly as high but limited on long like 15 seconds at least then he has to recharge. he could fire missiles, aqnd cluster bombs. Metal knux could do everything of knuckles but slower and instead of gliding he does a slower hover drop and unlike metal sonic can be in water. but in the water hes faster.
Team Emerald:
Tikal (Speed) *(Swim)
Chaos (Power) (Swim)
Three Chao Squad (Fly) *(Swim) * (Speed)
Three Chao Squad is a group of chao tht look like the ones from SONIC DX and they emerged from the broken pieces of the Master Emerald and wanted to help Chaos and Tikal. I picked Tikal for speed because it isn’t really detemined that shes as strong as knuckles. Just because shes a ecidna doesn’t mean she has super human strength. Chaos of course shoould be the power and could extend its arm to hit robots or things from distant and he could go from a human like figure to a puddle and move around like tht and find hidden passages ect. also when he gets in tha water he could transform into a fish like figure to swim faster.
And thts it for the new teams I think should be in.

Here are my suggestions SEGA
- Fix floaty physics.
- Fix Sonic’s animation. He would move at 60 mph but his legs looked like they were walking…
- New boss ideas for the Casino and Mad gear zones.
- Less speed boosts, make it momentum wise. Thats where u messed up on Adventure.
- If ur taking til fall to fix everything, u might as well slap in a new zone.
- Classic(er looking) Sonic to shut up all the whining fans.

Hello Ruby,
Splash Hill Zone..
It would be nice if Splash Hill zone had huge rain drops splashing down, that sonic could use to his advantage, or dodge. The effects could vary according to the size/density-of-water in the rain drops.
Also remember ‘Aqua Lake Zone’ from Master System Sonic 2? The splash-across-the water-technique?
Give it good reason to be named ‘Splash Hill’.
A bit like Ecco the Dolphin on Dreamcast and also visual reference to original Nights into Dreams on Saturn… Perhaps homage Wetrix as well.
p.s. Why not, for comic effect, have a one-off appearance one of those Chaos type guys from SA2 last stages – as a joke… or perhaps Robotnik could ride one of those Chaos type guys, showing up throughout the level to finish Sonic, culminating to the end of level boss, which involves Robotnik Riding the Chaosy guy.
Good luck.
Chaos and Splash,
tuki.

BEast has a point with Sonic’s leg movement…. BUT don’t make it incredibly fast like in Sonic Rush though. That was a bit much. I can’t really tell but don’t put the game on rails. I hate when the level feels like its controling you. It makes it less fun.

Just from the video it looks great and I see we are finnally back to an enjoyable speed, mush as ive enjoyed the rush serries it moved to fast to enjoy the levels, i guess that was the point but it just didn’t feel like the old games. It would be awesome if this game contained the chaos emerald stages in bluesphere form. I thing all the other special stages pretty much stunk and where either too hard or too easy. And if we have voice acting i think the japanese voices should be available as well or maybe you could turn them off entirely just in case they are anoying. I love the circular leg movements, they are awesome! and could we see maybe bonus hard sections of levels that open up when the game is beaten, and please let there be more than one path cause once again, in rush, you felt like there wherent a lot of options there either.
Thanks for letting us rant.

Honestly Sega? Major dissappointment. I don’t think your dev team seems to understand the basic concept of “the fans want a classic Sonic title.” Classic Sonic title means the following: old-school sonic model, very similar (if not the same) physics system as before, music compositions that actually fit the stages (LOOK AT Sonic 3 and Knuckles, perfection), and no fancy-schmancy new moves in terms of how Sonic is controlled. New Environmental bits are good, new badniks are good, new boss fights that aren’t just hit and kill are good.
Remove the homing attack, fix the physics, fix the character model, and I can guarantee you will have a product that die-hard old Sonic fans will RAVE over. Everything since Adventure 2 has been sub-par and should not be associated with this title.
If this truly is the followup to S3&K, make a character model that looks like the original Sonic, let him continue rolling off ramps, and keep the physics styles of the Genisis games; otherwise people who grew up on this and have waited a very VERY long time for an actual Sonic game again will be severely dissappointed.

i thought the whole point was back to basics sonic only, HA needs to be scrapped for an arial spin dash that is freemotion, basically you controle it and you cant super span it to kill enemies in 1 second, next, who the hell cares about the fake 3d style, its a sonic only game, what the hell makes this rush 3 besides the use of the updated charecter skin, its a bunch of bs and everyone nows it. rush was all about speed and ramming through everything which is exactly what the game implies RUSH! this game though with updated skins should follow classic play, so long as it dose this is a welcome addition. nobody plays the game simply because it looks good otherwise alot of classics would have failed. asthetics are important but they dont make the game everything, we are also talking about a chainge that is not drastic. he got taller and chainged eye color, whoop-di-do. 2d its widly agreed that sonic games suffer from lack of time put into the games, well now theres more time being put in and alot of you are still being sh!t heads about it. listen, voice valed concerns, not green eyes we want 16bit bs, as good as that would be this is what were getting for now so use this time to give valade points to help point sega because if we gat bs mixed with valid points sega will most likly stop reading and go on their own. also with the dlc classic skins, im 110% with you, if possible make a dlc option for classic mode that way sega gets paid and alot of fans including myself can enjoy a game that has more of a nastalgia to it. if they dont feature dlc, then ohh well my judgement is mostly based on play

okey so if the had a retro sonic look and level design with the play being as crappy as 06 that should be okay with you because its all retro. weather its retro or not classic play beats out asthetics, especially in this case were the graphics are alot more visually apealing and up todate with todays thech so you can t say that graphics suck. the look is still sonic but an older form of sonic you cant say its a drastic chainge, for example, blue to red with super long spikes and extra large feet that can knock plains out of the sky when lifted. remember, classic play is key.

Sonic 4 is an awesome idea! Keeping it 2D is even better! Console and iPhone only, BAD idea.
Please port this to Steam (or anyother method) to get this out to the PC too! I’d love to play Sonic 4 on my PC.

on the comment about classic games failing if ppl just played them cus it only looked good.
I have to say that the old sonic games looked absolutely beautiful in its unique way, and that, i believe, helped it sell more. Its one of the main reason why i play the classics, even though it plays excellent, it makes me wish that the Green Hill or Spring Yard zones were actual places I could go to.

1. Try to follow me on this, okay? There are seven emeralds, right? Why not bring back seven different special stages, one for each emerald?
-Emerald 1: Spinning Labyrinth (Sonic 1)
-Emerald 2: The Halfpipe (Sonic 2)
-Emerald 3: Blue Sphere (Sonic 3)
-Emerald 4: A longer version of the orb bonus stage from Sonic & Knuckles
-Emerald 5: Some kind of pinball bonus round
-Emerald 6: A 2D version of the Sonic Heroes tube
-Emerald 7: No special stage, but leave it sitting around somewhere a la Sonic 1 on the Game Gear
If this doesn’t work, then just bring back Blue Sphere.
2. Reintroduce the zone transitions. (i.e. Sonic being launched out of a cannon in Carnival Night and winding up in Ice Cap.) Also, make it so that Act 2 starts off immediately where Act 1 left off a la Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
3. More levels! More!
4. Personally, I’ve gotten used to the Eggman persona, but this IS Sonic 4, so bring back the doc’s old moniker please. After all, he was still Robotnik in Sonic Adventure.
5. Remove the homing attack. This is one move that works for 3D, but completely crushes the gameplay in 2D. If you want Sonic 4 to live up to its’ name, then do away with it.
6. If you’re bringing back the old boss, you HAVE to bring back the Eggsterminator. The grabber boss at the end of Sonic 3 would also be acceptable.
7. This might be a bit of a strech, but could you make a level that takes place in the ruins of the Death Egg?
8. Remember the Pit of No Return from Mystic Cave? I feel that this new generation of gamers should suffer the same fate that we did way back when. You following me here?
9. That’s not seriously the boss music, is it? It just can’t be. For one thing, it’s just too damn happy. Secondly, it fulfills none of the criteria for a boss battle. It’s not fast enough to be intense, but it’s not slow enough to be threatening. Actually, with the exception of the title music, the soundtrack sounds like crap thus far. Fix it.
10. You sure as hell better bring back the classic drowning music. I want the sweat to roll down my face when I’m sucking in the water levels.

IMHO, if you have a homing attack in the game (which I’m fine with), don’t have the marker on what you’re aiming at. Also, make it so you don’t have to be aiming at something to attack. I liked it back in SA where you could just homing attack around the map.

I`m glad Sega is taking their time and not rushing on the project. Rushing has been proven to be the wrong thing to do and had major problems as a result. I`m sure the wait till be worth it. I`d just like an actual release date, not a vague one. But can`t be helped. Couldn`t care less about the phone crap but I am totally getting it for my PS3 (my neglected system need smore games to it). Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Everytime I see the video again, I hate more and more all the boosters, springs and all this horrible “autoplay”.
We don’t need more and more springs! We need the old shields (bubble, fire, eletric) and new ones!!! Like “ice shield”, “target shield -> then you can do the homming attacks, because it coudb be good but not full time”, “invisible shield”, etc…
That’s it: Innovative power ups could save Sonic 4! Think about that!

@ anonymous (May 24th post) with the 1-10 points….
Why not have the special stages mixed up within themselves, part of it can involve overcoming a spinning labyrinth, part of it could be a half-pipe obstacle, then touch the blue spheres and getting warped into Sonic CD style task, finally the emerald could be sitting aloft a haughty ledge somewhere.
Obviously starting the special stages should out simple, like the spinning labyrinth on it’s own, but getting harder/complex after each emerald. Emeralds hidden in the zones was also in Sonic 2 on Master System and Game Gear.. It was fun and arduous, but more-so, fun.
On your point number (7), about the ruins of death egg zone, what if the badniks of the stages are remaining badniks who have mutated or scrambled for limbs/parts, struggling to survive ever since, into humorous-faulty-self-destructive or perhaps ever-more-powerful hybrids of their past selves. Reference/homage to Panzer Dragoon Zwei/Saga/Orta. This Death Eggs Ruin Zone could also have the Zone Boss as a huge, mutant-chicken badnik or something downright messed-up… or perhaps, metal Sonic return! (For those of you who count Sonic CD as canon… i.e. the thing that happened between Sonic 1 and 2).
wuv,

Comment 247, Cole Alleman: I don’t want classic Sonic sprite, Oops, not everyone wants it.
Comment 270, axel: The problem is that back then, people didn’t care about graphics and how a game looks as much. Nowadays we can have such realistic graphics that people care about that to the point where it’s ridiculous and now they’ll complain about the color of eyes.
You know what, Sonic should just be represented by a blue square.
Comment 275, Anonymous: Oh, hecks yeah. I remember that where each zone transitioned into another. It made it feel like a whole. Which always made me go crazy trying to figure out how you can go from some aquatic ruins to a fancy casinolandzone. Also, what was the Eggsterminator? Sounds like something EGGMAN would make. Egg pod. Why would this stuff be named egg-related things and then the notion of an egg being nowhere about him. The answer is he originated as Eggman. ;o
Also, I’d like to say that if a bonus stage similar to Sonic 2′s returns, it should have not-bad physics so the first one of it is at least doable by me???
Post 276, AL: Oops yeah that makes sense a shield that allows for a homing attack instead of one all the time. Sonic 3D Blast sort of had an early version of that, although when no enemy was around you just dropped straight down.

That should be some other project, perhaps entitled:

But I think it’s been done by that game where you make your own platformer (don’t Know name of the particular game).

To Cole,
Here’s an idea, pay the fans $7 – per idea via paypal or whichever legit way – after their ideas are used.
Also, if other people’s views are reduced to ‘bitching’, all you are doing is riffing the word ‘bitching’ – used by other nonchalant fans – and on pre-existent notions and ideas.
But forget this, what did it feel like when you first saw debug mode! wow.. Imagine that Victor, ‘Sonic 4: debug mode’. Create your own island, or experiment with Badniks… like Chao – but less whimsical and more mechanically represented, to make your own Badniks… you may think it is mimicking Spore somewhat, but it’s not, it’s egstreme-measures-mode Robotnik, an unlockable mode after you complete Ruined Death Egg Zone…
I had that dream about Panzer Saga many years ago… I’ll see myself out…
Another free idea, but no more.

Hello,
Sonic 4 plot suggestion,
Instead of the plot being ‘Sonic going off to explore new places’, why not make it the environmental effects of the Death egg exploding?
Splash Hill could have the opening scene of death egg crashing down, in the ocean background of Splash Hill. Sonic Nexus has a great opening, this game depicted what happens after Sonic3Kn poignantly, so unfortunately, this idea of mine about Splash Hill is not entirely new, but a slight variation.
This episode’s crisis could be:
The egg crash has initiated a vast evironmental damage, more-so, in it’s volatile state, it is going to cause a huge Nuclear Eggxplosion. Sonic’s intuitive act was to go back to the Death Egg to explore the after effects to his world/Country, unwittingly reaching the death egg ruins to do something about the potential explosion, maybe robotnik is trying to stop Sonic throughout the game for this reason.
So Sonic uses the hovering and falling water drops of Splash Garden/Hill to get to the ocean. To Sonic’s dismay, the second Act could be a predominantly underwater one, slowing him down, unless you stay high enough or skips across the surface of the water.
Instead of breaking a monitor for the Bubble-Shield, sometimes, the drops of water can fall on Sonic and that could be another way of getting a bubble Shield, a tiny bit like when waiting for the bubble to pop-up in Sonic 2 – Aqua Lake Zone, Act 2 on Master System/GameGear.
The environmental angle could incorperate that Death Egg Ruins idea someone else a few posts ago contributed. Further showing the environmental effects of Death egg crash. Also the Ice Cap Zone, if there is one, can start off as covered in beautiful snow and gradually turning into a dilapitated jungle. This causes time to be an important factor, so depending on how fast and effectively Sonic finishes acts, the next Act will have different levels of damage as obstacles in it… like Sonic CD time travel.
For people who like gazing into Sonic’s purdy green eyes, if Super Sonic is playable, have his Dark brown/Black eyes turn Green when he turns Super, and then eventually back to Original when the energy wears off. Finally, the bits of broken badnik pieces can be collected up by Tails, a revelation in 2nd episode perhaps.
See you guys… you know I really wish I knew more about game development…
eggs,
Tuki.

Comment 288, tuki: Uhh why would they pay fans for the ideas if the fans are giving the ideas so the game becomes good. This is an idea donation not sell-a-thon. ;o Just seems counter-intuitive, really. Also Sonic 4 should have the debug mode from the old Sonic games for no apparent reason.

Hello Duth Olec,
I don’t know but much of what a games Designer or lead designer does, but I think much of it is being done for them here by giving these ideas out. I think the designers have the ill-conceived idea about what it means to be intuitive. PAYMENT.
I don’t have the technical skills to get the job done. Maybe it’s time to train… or not.
You’re not serious. You would buy Sonic 4 if he turned into a pixel – that had no expression what so ever?
Or if he wore Mario’s clothes..
Wow.
Debug mode for no reason? Debug mode was mad, it was also inspiring after completing the game.. Maybe release a game called ‘Sonic:Debug’ with motobug on the cover, black background.
Concept is: develop a Badnik/Zone tool kit as an extra mode… once individuals have played Sonic 4 to death..
Can I get an Amen Victor..
just kidding.

Good morrow Duth Olec,
May the shorts be with you. I wouldn’t buy that. To me, regarding a Sonic game, that’s artistically inane – big time. Maybe, the moderator who just might send feedback to developer-sama over there does so by ruling out nonchalant sounding comments comparing them to individuals who send comments, filled with blind rage or passion behind them and register some Quality Assurance credibility…
Well atleast my buddies know what potential/scope debug mode has. Am I right Victor and possibly, Cole Alleman? Damn right. Just joking.
I saw ‘sonic slashing monsters in PSO’. Youtube search it. To me, visually, it looks like a wonderful 3D sonic game.
from,
tuki
p.s. Stuff like making Mecha-Sonic appear is precisely the kind of thing that a customization mode could incorporate. Mecha-Sonic, with a see-through belly with a baby mecha-sonic floating inside it… Like HR Giger’s stuff. Just kidding; I don’t know if I ever Summoned Mecha Sonic by trying to break the game. If I may indulge you. SEE YA.

Comment 311, tuki: Oh, yeah. With Knuckles and Sonic. In Sonic’s stage, when you get to Mecha Sonic, place those warpy beam things in the MEcha Sonic fight area. Two of them. Each time you place one, a new Mecha Sonic shows up. You can’t make more than 3 appear though. For Knuckles, I forget how it’s done exactly but it’s done by leaving the area you’re supposed to be confined to and then going back, or something like that. I dunno. But anyway, I know they’re not going to do that. I am just trying to say that it shouldn’t matter if Sonic has green eyes, dark eyes, red fish, blue fish. I mean what. As long as it plays like a Sonic game, what does it matter what Sonic looks like?

Personally,
Things change right?
When things change so drastically, or desperately, denouncing who they are and what their life has experienced so far – because who they are is perfectly wonderful and potentially fine as it is – that’s when the change is like a nightmare.
When folks carry who they are since the beginning with themselves – constructive and great things about them – there is something very interesting, special about them, their company, their presence.
If you’re going to ditch that to try and find some kind of appeasing identity, then that’s where your original self is lost; what made them so admirable, ‘inadequacies’ and all.
Watching the Sonic Colours teaser, some mean 3D jerk is staring at me and running, as if he is going to spit on me and cut me up with his blue blades, piss off man, whoever you are. Don’t look at me like that. Where’s the enigma of old? Is giving a dirty look what someone’s idea of Sonic is?
Is that what he used to do, standing there in Scrap Brain Zone, Spring Yard, Emerald Hill zone? Have a bad/mean attitude?
So that’s the level I take expressionism and aesthetics to, it’s not the ultimate level, it’s just my personal thoughts – unfortunately. It doesn’t make it the only and valid way to respond to a computer game or any fictional character.. Can story characters grab someone’s imagination like that?
from Tuki
p.s.
Haven’t played Sonic Unleashed, but I think the designer and team leaders really went for a deeper representation of Sonic and I completely got what they were doing with the Hedgewolf aspect. He was fighting with the changes imposed on him in the night, the best he could – still trying to see the ‘end of the tunnel’ and stay true to who he is. That’s why I think it’s beautiful and not a crap gimmick.
Plus, it looked a bit like Phantasy Star Online, with all that Maseta leaking out. Maybe with a bit more time, that part of the game could have been implemented with optimum execution.
eggs.

1) What about weather affecting the surfaces so judging the jumps and landings have another layer of depth to it, mr.developer-sama-who-is-great. Please enjoy credit and payment.
Isn’t Sega/Dimps allowed to tweak past 2D engines? Is that the reason it is being developed from ground up?
2) Not too serious, but as a longevity factor might be nice:
How about Alex the Kidd as unlockable playable?
Not download, but hard-copy version bonus. Big crossed paths with Sonic – in Sonic Adventure, have Alex’s cross.. get that Radaxian politics in man. I could suggest narrative cohesion of this – for an ethical fee.
3) Longevity of replay value:
Speaking of Alex Kidd, with all his purchasing items from the shop to enhance his trek, why not have an unlockable Shop mode, for both Sonic and Alex, after the game is clocked or certain tasks are achieved, Shop mode opens and you can alter Sonic’s shoe grips and what not and replay the game with the modifications, playing the whole game in a different light:
rain-mode,
hard/dry-ground mode,
snow,
Summer,
wild terrain mode,
evening-mode,
original narrative weather-mode.
By playing the game through Sonic with no Modifications (for the fans of original games), the terrains could pose a challenge, but a challenge met by Sonic straight-up, so the Shop mode after unlocking could bring depth, perhaps allowing to explore unchartered areas of zones that only the modifications could bring, like extra springy-jump shoes or the old Soap Grinding shoes, finally the ring line thing that was introduced in SA1.
These extra areas could introduce Sonic to new tasks, to unlock stuff or revealing secrets/truths/facts about Mobius. Side missions that could go on forever in as their own stand alone adventure, but really side-plots compared to the main theme… assuming it is the theme about Death Egg environment Damage.
Hence, this is why it would be better to have this shop stuff after completing or something.
Ken Spaghetti Balloughnaize.

1. Put the classic Sonic (=SAWnic) character into the game!
2. Make sonic accelerate quickly! I don’t want to wait several seconds until he gets going.
3. I hope the news in June will be “Sonic unleashed 2″ without Werehog!
4. I don’t care if the game arrives in 2010, 2011, or 2012. Listen to the fans and make it right!

Comment 317, Raycxell: What don’t generalize, I’m 20 and the classic Sonic games were basically the first ones I played, and they’re still some of my favorite games. But I couldn’t care less if there’s a classic Sonic in or not. I’m not wearing nostalgia goggles, as some say.
Comment 318, tuki: As for your “suggestion” 2, noononoonnnonononoNO. And I think the third one is starting to get a bit too in-depth. It’s like people never even thought about the fact this is episode one, not “this is the entire game and there won’t be anymore parts to it!”

Again to Duth Olec,
My suggestion 2 is a secret to unlock for those willing to get the mods and explore the zones after clocking.
Getting to Alex’s dilemma could be a task in itself, you’d only unlock him and his side-adventures (as well as Sonic’s side-adventure related to him), after you clock the game and got the right Modifications to get to some ledge that leads you off to Alex’s dilemma – via some secret Zone Discourse..
if you know what I mean?

Its this simple,
FIRSTLY: Play sonic and knuckles 50 times over, copy the physics and gameplay 100%, take note of the fact it had an epic storyline and EXPAND opon it, dont simplfy it!
SECONDLY: swallow your pride and play Sonic Megamix fanmade game for an idea of how to implement new actions for sonic without fucking it all up
LASTLY: all thats needed to do is improve on the graphic detail. NO SHITTY CHEAP LOOKING 3D! Keep it 2D, make it look how it always has, but HD, higher pixels, lighting and detailing
RESULT: Hit game, happy fans, buckets of cash for SEGA, and a repaired reputation
EASY

Alex the Kidd was replaced as Mascot. What has that got to do with him being great? Making corperate moves to make money doesn’t justify what is great.
For example:
Sega Saturn vs. PS
To me Sega Saturn had games I actually wanted to complete.
Not because a guy in a suit told me that I want one for Christmas on TV.

Bring back that special gameplay on Sonic the Hedgehog 2, S3&K, Sonic Chaos, Sonic Blast, and even Sonic Blast! Or else I will leave sonic and join mario.

Comment 336, tuki: So you’re saying he was replaced because they felt like it, not because they needed a much better and more interesting mascot? Putting Alex Kidd in is literally just more retro fanservice. Yeah this game is probably mostly retro fanservice but gaddfern it, make it just Sonic retro fanservice.
Comment 337, also tuki: Yeah you’re probably better off not knowing who he is. He was in Brawl. There’s no real future in what? Video games? That’s what they said about movies. At least that’s what they SHOULD HAVE said about movies. Movies are basically less-interactive versions of movies. And movies are versions of books where you don’t actually have to think. No wonder the masses prefer them!

The actual result would be the following:
-mixed reviews from professional reviewers (with some giving it very low scores because of the view that it’s pretty much version 2.0 of the early 90′s Sonic games)
-some fans will proclaim the game as “ruined forever”
-SEGA’s reputation is still damaged (in the eyes of some Sonic fans)
-the game will still sell well
-proof for some (including yours truly) that talking about Sonic the Hedgehog is like talking about American politics (that discussions of either have been known to be very volatile at times)
P.S., in regards to referring to Sonic’s arch nemesis as Dr. Robotnik, it’s actually Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, so you can refer to him as either Dr. Robotnik or Dr. Eggman (I prefer the latter, but that’s just me).

No future in writing here – and anywhere – what I feel would make an astounding Sonic 4.
Who’s going to take me onboard Sega? Ken Ballough? ‘Ruby’?
Masses prefer many things. You are generalising. There are movies that make you think out there, check them out. Who’s they? Are you generalizing the initial response to movies?
If you re-read my response… you will read that there is no hint or implication that whichever individuals at the time made this decision about mascots did so because ‘they felt like it’. I think I read somewhere online the reasons behind it.. but besides those reasons, labels like ‘retro’ and ‘fan Service’ and ‘old School’ are highly debilitating and games-market savvy clauses that do not aptly address or do any justice to what these characters and creations are all about. Or as in the Simpsons ‘smart words that stupid people use to sound smart’.
At least, to me, for Sega games like Sonic and Alex, if Sega are out for the mass sale audience Style game, go do it for some other of those of games; don’t bring your hunger for money to something that doesn’t need to live up to the capitalist expecations.
By implying ‘old School’ and ‘retro’ you are implying fads, fashion, trends. They come and go; getting modified and look like damn jokes trying to keep up. It can be all right to watch sometimes though.
Sonic was never a trend to me, to think of him this way is cheap and CRAP.
Fan service? So who is Sega Serving? The GetRichQuick-Machine Service?

Comment 340, tuki: No, I’m generalizing. While I’m in generalizing mode, movies that make you think are all totally just propaganda. Will I ever stop being jaded!? Probably not. And I use the term “retro fanservice” as a catch-all term for all the retro crap that’s been going on. “OMG, GUYS, WE SHOULD HAVE GAMES IN 8-BIT, BECAUSE GRAPHICS ARE SOOOO ADVANCED BUT HAVING REALLY SIMPLE GRAPHICS IS SOOO COOL, BUT NOT 64-BIT, NOOOO” …yeah that’s basically how I see it.
As time goes on, I see the video game market grouped in groups that don’t actually apply to me. There is no type of game in recent times that is really something I can get behind. I am apart from the others, a different being entirely, alone in this world of video games…
What am I talking about?

For old fans you got classic 2D platforming and old school music.
For new fans you got the homing attack and the new sonic design.

hello sega im am a die hard sonic fan, and i can say without exaggeration i have been playing sonic all my life. But sadly after sonic adventure 2 i started too whitness the slow but sure down fall of sonic. now i do think that sonic 4 is a excellent idea, but i think you shold go back to the original story line of sonic 1,2,3 & knuckles, to futher explande the hole in the sonic story line. For example like where did tails come from? how did they meet? How did the 7th chaos emrald come to be? and most important SUPER EMRALDS!! what i think should be done is a full remake of sonic 2 and 3 &knux but this time leaving the deleted levels in (e.i. hidden palace zone) finaly the best way to revive the sonic series is to 1. bring ryan drummond back 2. redo the story line and 3. bring the original Sonic Team back

Awesome! Sega finally listens to the fans! Hopefully you guys can FINALLY and I say, FINALLY, take a step over Mario, and Megaman, and use what you got to improve on that blue animal-like mascot. PLEASE.
Okay, just since you guys are listening to fans, ;D, I have some imput!
1) PHYSICS. Please Sega, we know you’re able to do this. Just make the game more balanced, and PLEASE make sure Sonic doesn’t glitch with loops, or homing attacks, or running, for that matter. Based on the trailers…and leaks…I’ve seen, you’re doing fine. Just keep editing.
2) Old Engine, NEW ENGINE. Sega, try looking back at Sonic(s) 1,2,3 and etc. to make sure your engine work similar, but a bit modern. Don’t put a different engine. Please don’t.
3) THE MINE. Sega, I saw what went on in that level from a…leak, and…It looks a bit trippy. Could you maybe port that only for the Iphone, and maybe fine tune and change it for the consles? Or else, you may get more haters.
4) More platforming? Just cause? It’s not ALL about speed.
Basically, just taking some fan critizism is key, and with some fine tuning, more replay value, and fixing physics, Sega, this could be Sonic’s comeback! C’mon Sega. Give Sonic something good, something he had back in the golden days, (When I wasn’t alive,
)

Please change Sonic and Eggman’s model to the classic one, I mean, keep the 3D ceel shading, but shorten Sonic’s quills and make his eyes black again and give Eggman his old costume, being that the story takes place after Soinc and Knuckles, it would only makes sense to make them look like their classic selves and I hope that the game developers can agree.

hum.. for genesis…. i think not.. because today genesis is a very rare console !
( i heave one genesis megadrive 3 from brazilian tectoy) !
but maybe one new (and old) type of media for actual consoles!
one usb hardware whit cartridge reader
( read genesis cartridges whit 64 pin and new carts whit 128 pin )
thats hardware connect to the new consoles using the usb ports…
the advantages of return of cartridges is:
-durability
-low time of loadings
-more powerfull graphics
-same quality of sound (digital)
-flash memory system to save the nex epsodes and dlcs
-box art and manual of the game.
you buy the wirited blank cartridge.. go to the xbla ou psn ertc. and input the serial of the cartridge and download the game to the cartridge.
or only one cartridge whit usb cable
-durability
-low time of loadings
-more powerfull graphics
-same quality of sound (digital)
-flash memory system to save the nex epsodes and dlcs
-box art and manual of the game.

Awesome, SEGA, I knew you were going to really try with this one
My only advice is to come up with all kinds of new elements, and go all out, just like the developers did with the first 4 Sonic games. Each level in those seems to have it’s own way of playing it so that certain actions on Sonic’s part can only be done in certain levels. This was my main source of intrique in those games =D

Answering comment 364′s question, THIS IS WHY.
http://www.youtube.com/profile?migrated=1#p/a/f/2/nSJhzPJcMGs
Listen to the level of cheering from the crowd when:
The first 4 sonics are showned (ahh good times)
The adverture Series was showned (Some Fans liked the rock themes like live and learn)
Sonic Unleashed Intro Scene showned (Was perfect until the werehog bit)
And Sonic 4 Showned (Return of 2D)
Here’s what I’m suggesting:
Keep sonics newer model (Keeps new fans happy)
The plot in sonic 4 needs to tie into the events that happened in sonic 3 and knuckles, e.g angel island, south island, death egg refernces and maybe the 3 metal sonics, metal, silver and mecha appearing again, (old school fans will be happy)
A custom music option to select what music to play during gameplay, the default being the levels music but also including old game level music from the mega drive games and some of the 3D ones like the adverture series for that extra bit of rock that the new fans like. It would be great for a few fan remixes to make it into the game too.
(I believe this will please both sides of the fanbase)
Same physics as the mega drive games (If your aiming for 2D your gonna need those same physics)
I wouldn’t mind Tails and Knuckles not being a playable characher but they need to make appearances in the game or atleast in future episodes.

To SEGA:
I have stayed with you for years and the sonic games where some of the best parts of my childhood. If you are actually planning on making this game better and need more time, that shows you are already listening to the good fanbase already. Some suggestions you will se often are the whole physics and such, so I wont really worry about that. Here are my suggestions that may have been repeated, but I see as REALLY BIG:
1. Classic sprites unlockable, classic music from from Sonic 1 to Sonic and Knuckles unlockable and change “Eggman” back to the ggod old Dr. Robotnick. Although the updated look is good, the classic look and sound being unlockable gives a nostalgic feeling…
2. Debug and level select. If its going to be like a classic Sonic game, add those as unlockables if need be.
3. Less springs and other things. Only put enough, but not too much as to get boring.
4. Add original Sonic 1 to Sonic and Knuckles w/ Sonic 3 as secrets in the game. This is not too critical, seeing as how I still like to pop out my Genesis every once in a blue moon for that feeling and I got it on XBOX and PS3 and PC… Apparently I rebought the same games many times… Or, instead of doing this, take suggestion #6 for a ride…
5. Take some suggestions from fan-made games as well. I wont name any, but they show what people want, including the peel-out and the figure 8 when you run super fast! That definately shows the difference form running really fast to sonic speed fast!
6. What if, say, you were to re-create the sonic games in a the same way Sonic 4 graphics, backgrounds wise with original gameplay and have it as extra downloadable content? huh? And you could bundle the original games with it as well! that would work too…
7. Tails, Knuckles and Metal Sonic are HIGHLY suggested to be in this game… No, they are needed if it will be true to its name… Every other character sucks if its going to be like the original games… You can add them as downloadable content, but please, for all that is just in this world, DON’T add them in the game on release!!! Let us play it till our thumbs bleed and let us enjoy it till our eyes burn, then send the “cast” if you must afterward…
8. Some part like straight aways to show how fast it could go… tread lightly on this because too long will be boring and too short will suck…
9. Like ying and yang, balance is key… This is the BIGGEST suggestion and what it seems like you are doing. Find that sweet spot in the middle of retro and new age, and not only is it fun for us, but profit for you and PRIDE for the Sonic the Hedgehog name!
10. Do not listen to the sour people. Take the time that is needed to make the game better. I will definitely buy it because I have just about EVERY sonic the hedgehog game made thus far and I have played them all, But I want it to be one of those games I play like the old Sonic games to sonic adventure 2… I stayed up for days on end beating it perfectly and feeling good afterward!
This last one is more personal…
11. Please have it release before 2011 if possible. I deploy in 2011 and I would like to have it before I go. If more time is required, then at least when I arrive back here, I have an AWESOME game to look forward to!
I am confident you will make a good sonic game. Sonic unleashed was a step in the right direction… Minus the cutscenes and the repetitive fighting in the werehog stages, it is a pretty cool game… Sonic 4 is gonna be one of those things I wished for, and was granted. Now all thats left is a third person platform shooter with Metal Sonic, with a rating teen or, preferably, higher… He is a homicidal robot after all right?…
With much respect,
Dockotis

I sure hope there will be more playable characters as just Sonic, the ideal thing would be Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and a total new character. Since that’s the line the Sonic games went; Sonic 1: Sonic, Sonic 2: Tails, Sonic 3: Knuckles, Sonic 4: ?

to comment on a remark I’ve seen on the eggman/ robotnic debate, stating that eggman was originally his name… yeah, in the japanese version, but if it’s a remake to bring people back to fondly remember the genesis days, robotnic is the way to go, and not just the name, bring back the vintage robotnik (http://digitalpolyphony.webs.com/Old_robotnik.jpg), not desperately trying to be new and fresh for 3D era eggman (http://adamjharris.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/robotnik.gif)

I know i am a spec in the stream but i believe this WHOLEheartedly- i played sonic 1991 at 5yrs old as my FIRST game. I always wanted to be a part of its comunity of development when i grew up. I have Played 2,3,knuckles each on releaseday. I literally grew up with sonic games. Im 24 now and i still love playing them. I waited so long to see this happen. After playing this franchise with that much devoted time, i do understand what personally attracted me so much to its gameplay.
1- Sonic ALWAYS was more fun on the genesis as the sonic that ran with a loop and slightly quick NOT lightning(unless with speed shoes) after only running forward for about 1 and a half seconds. Why is this somthing that is so seemingly avoided now? THAT WAS ITS INITIAL CHARM AMONGST OTHER QUALITIES! It does bother me to see it still be such a hard thing to achieve as if you only can see this loop run if at insane speed with no game play . That wasnt a problem in sonic1-knux and i dont see why it should be any different NOW!
2. Make those levels LONG and a good amount of floating platforms.
3I saw those leaked vids-zoom out a bit man this is canon to the genesis series not gamegear right?
4 lock on is great if its not being played were all you must do is double tap the jump command to get from a-b. make it a bit more challenging we grew up with this and the youth playing as well arent retarded or slow.
5 NO faces on any bricks like in the old labyrinth zone?! you guys make zones like the ones already exsisting but leave out the charm in it? I dont understand that. And more importantly- wheres the danger of drowning? every titles water zone had underwater drown threat. this game is being played by its original/newfans alike -not slow retarded people. Add some darn challenge like it HAD.
6- splash hill and mad gear have one thing in common. ok music but still- its like being forced to choose the least of the evils. the soundtrack as a whole is okay, reason being, its very oversynthed and slightly souless. ESPECIALLY LOST LABYRYNTH And CASINO STREET. so empty and just,.,,,there. and robotnics music-man o man,,,,, the most non threatening and non action oriented clown sound.im not alone on that i am sure. sonic1 and 3 robotnik music was amazingly done. WHY NOT like those?WHY clownish? its an old beta track for S3d yes but trashed for a reason.its silly/non threatening.
7please PLEASE make another spring yard ish /chemical plantish zone in the future. it sux if the cliche skin is only saved for the “END” level. never how it was. Ever by pattern, by standard, by the CHARM of the old ones. If its continuing the tradition….ConTINUE the tradition then? PLEASE?
Make it easier to have the GENESIS loop run.jog-1&1/2 secs-loop run. for THREE titles then 4 it wont? I really hope not.
floating platforms
less needy but more clever lock on
music needs soul and more oomph like1-3
labyrinth zone withote brick faces….like i said-its ok to revisit certain levels but leave the charm?hmmm.
This all comes from years of playing, just like your gametesters get paid WE PAY to do the same for those who really give a crap about it letalone how we spend the dollar on expectations(at LEAST a little)???

classical sprites arent a bad idea, but dont let that be your deciding facter, as was stated befor even if they remade everything lets be honest, alot of reviews would come out hitting the game as sonic 3 remastered. sonic needs to keep with the base idea but with expansions that work well. what i find is that the newer 2d games are bad in ways that it lacks the adventure once held before, its only about running. this new game could be a chance to return to basics. remember, clasic sprites doesnot = instant hit if the game is crappy, so long as its sonic (were not talking radical chainges) just sonic’s plain sprites with classic play and level feel than bam its an undeniable hit

Comment 375, Dockotis: Oh yes, and let’s make Peach Toadstool again, and ooh, let’s use Birdo’s original gender situation, and…
Well, those are really the only examples I can think of. Literally, the only reason they would make it Robotnik is for retro fanservice.
So, to review, I wouldn’t care if they went back to Robotnik beyond the fact that I’ve become sick of retro fanservice. I’m just tryin’ to let people know how pointless it would be.

for a continuation to the original series ive noticed that not 1 single yellow spring. the red used to be powerfull the yellow was low power, now its= only red springs everywhere and above average bounce from them. Allright……well i tried. i just dont see why not. i am overlooking the fact that the designers went ahead and basically redid old levels and im just happy they want to go back to the unbroken formula,,, BUT then WHY omit many parts of the previous 3 that gave them charm?
Labyrinth without the threat of drowning- OK???
Metropolis without insanely hard precision stepping-no LAVA, no jabbing spear platforms, the asterons dont really seem to threatening this time either. in 2 they REALLY werent for show-they trully were a challenging deterrent- and why is that bubbles thing planted in mid air in every single level? ok lock on is great but that is beyond cheap and slightly unoriginal.
You guys are going to reintroduce a classic series , why not keep the parts that gave it challenge and charm. ESPECIALLY if you HAVE to seriously revisit OLD levels? its not a big deal if you actually make them as good as the first time everyone played them.
PS- make sonic run like in 1,2,3,and knuckles? i know dimps made sobic advance but he runs like he did on gameboy advance not the GENESIS as this title (sonic 4) suggests it is canon to. its like he is jogging but moving fast but only if he hits a downward vertex will the (loop) legs appear. It wasnt even a solid loop back then. just feet running in circular motion faster than the eye can grasp. PLEASE? make him run like in the first 3? especially being directly to the GENESIS titles? NOT gameboy advance???

Making it downloadable content is the biggest mistake SEGA is ever going to make…
It’s all good that most are jumping into the future but over 70% of gamers have no interest in it and would rather play something that’s bought from a shop than downloaded through a console online.
The game’s “Cell-Shaded” graphics look terrible IMO -_-
I’ve been a ravid sonic fan since i was 5yrs old. I bought all those terribly glitchy games like Sonic 2006 & the laugh of a game Sonic Unleashed. I played them. I enjoyed them. Because apart from all the horrible things it was, it kinda reminded me of my days spent playing the original sonic 1-3.
I truly believe SEGA are going to fail.
Which is a shame really…like the prince of persia film that i was cursed to watch in the cinema last night, anything can be great, if given the chance.
I hope whole heartedly that SEGA succeed and this is a huge hit, selling millions of “Downloads” (<_<) …at least then people would lay off and start accepting things for what they are instead of what they envision them to be.
COME ON SONIC 4!!

I’ve been a 2d sonic fan for years, I grew up in the master system days here in NZ.
Looking at the previews sonic has 21 lives at the first boss??? I hope like hell you make this game alot harder and not for someone that can finish the game in 1 hour. Put some challenge in the game. I hope you have the option to have it on PC, Hope the game has a semi story line like sonic 3 had in between zones, that just makes the game that more interesting and gets you more into the game itself.

I think Sonic 4 does look nice, but honestly, do something about the Boss Music – this is not just a game. This is SONIC 4!
Add some more nostalgia levels too – like Lava Reef or Death Egg from S3, those fellt really apocalyptic, as if you knew something was happening – Death Egg was escaping – end levels.

To Ken Balough and SEGA Corporation:
I’m not sure if you know about the current Sonic the Hedgehog ROM Hacks going on within GENS, a Sega Genesis Emulator….but, Sonic Megamix 4.0 (still in development) is one of the most amazing and well-written Sonic Hacks out there! With the 6 original levels of Sonic the Hedgehog still intact, the new layouts and character moves are very similar to Sonic 4 (Homing Attack, Speed Boosters…etc). Tweaker is the main developer of the game and he formed a new group called Megamix Team. It’s a parody of Sonic Team. To me, Sonic Megamix could have been a great precursor of “Sonic 4″.
Anyways, I think you should look it up and even put it in the blog. I recommend you take a look at some of their clips and walkthroughs on YouTube. Like I said before, look at the cool new level layouts and new actions; some of them are in Sonic 4! Take some of their ideas and put them in your own hands. This may spark even more ideas. Maybe you can even sponsor Sonic Megmix 5.0 , that is when it comes out.
Yours truly,

Glad they delayed it to make the game better, cause most Sonic games are terribl and way too rushed!
Give Robotnick his old name back, his current name, which I refuse to say or type, is stupid as hell.
Make Tails and Knuckles playables. People actaully like those characters, its the million other losers you’ve created over the years we could care less about.
Super Sonic better be like the Genesis Era. Newer games only let you be Super for the final boss. LAME!
Bring back Hyper Sonic (and Knuckes)!

I don’t know why all the fans are being so ungrateful to Sega. You guys complained about a LOT of things that were wrong with Sonic 4 (the way he moves, the momentum in air and on the ground, etc.)
Sega announces that they’re going to delay the game a couple months because they thought your suggestions were valid and needed to be put into the game in order to make it good, and you guys flip out?
Game developers can never win, you guys are all so whiny about EVERYTHING. I, for one, am glad that Sega decided to delay Sonic 4. It sucks that I have to wait until the fall to play it, but if it means that I’m going to get the absolute best Sonic game that they can make, then I will be more than happy to wait through the delay.
Nintendo delayed Mario Galaxy 2 for six months in order to have extra time to fix bugs and tweak the game, and the result is probably one of the best Mario games ever made. Delays can suck, but it means you get a better product in the end sometimes.

Hey Sega, please fix this minor problem: When Sonic runs or spins at high speeds and jumps, when the D-Pad/Analog Stick is let go, Sonic looses his momentum and goes straight down. Please make it like the old games, If you jump while running/Spinning, you would continue Jumping, even if you let go of the D-Pad/Analog stick
Greetings from Austria!

Dear Ken Ballough,
I have never heard of any demand for looney-tune-esque look or stylistic preferences for Sonic. Who are these kids, of whom you refer to? Educate me. I’m out of touch with all the millions of units of Sonic games sold over the last 6 years.
Are you sure you’re not confusing Sonic’s antics found in The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (with the brown tails) with something else? They were looney-tunesque and personally, spot-on; adding a welcome dimension to Sonic’s character.
I had a relative who worked for EA, similarily not interested in the products they’re supposed to do research or keep. How interested are you with this brand?
It’s cool if you’re not – you know? Everyone has to work and make big bucks.

Hey Y’all,
It may seem long but I think it’s a good post
This time:
Have you all checked this video?
It is about Sonic’s Original character design and how it came about:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkhjBAYL2Hs&feature=channel
It’s a GameTap Documentary. Hoochimama it’s cool. 4 parts as well! Lap it up! Inform yourself… Ken. Just kidding.
To the Duth:
The Ice Climbers?
No, you quite vaguely mentioned this Kid Icarus character brand on me a few posts back.
That #405 is for Ken Ballough, but we’re not personal friends so I can’t really think of any more effective way of contacting him and getting a discussion going, besides this very public means, for which I am greatful oh Sega online-ICT/customer Service dept. of America (or whoever does it)… Anyway Mr.Duth, the Adventures of Sonic the hedgehog (featuring a brown Colour palette for tails), was an early to mid-90′s cartoon. It was quite a welcome collection of episodes for me personally; I think it portrayed Sonic quite successfully and nicely
————-
You all know that the Japanese original Design was quite ‘Japanese’ in it’s style,
whereas american personnel made it more Felix the Cat and Westerny, I think that’s where the Red white and blue colours also come in… maybe not.
Sonic’s character design history is turning out to have quite a messy history once you check out how he came to be.
I wouldn’t mind him looking like the dude with the fangs. Hence Sonic Unleashed? Imagine that.
from Tuki,
P.s. Do people jump on the band wagon to bash Unleashed? You individuals really didn’t like Unleashed? Or are you just accustomed to the chemical splurge of a good moan? Wahh wahh.

Looney-tune-esque is something Mr.Ken Balough reckoned younger demograph wants from sonic. The HELL it does – was my initial response… Then I thought, maybe he asked one disaffected relative and thought that would do; finally, then I thought, oh leave it. What the hell.
Nostalgia is better than interesting things? Man, where do you get off?
Of course I think Nostalgia is better than interesting things, duhh.
There, does that appease and fit in within your world view of what people are supposed to be? I don’t think you know what I talk about, are you a skim-reading type – sir?
After this, there shall not be any response.

The chilli-dog thing in Sonic Unleashed was out of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Perhaps Mr.B is muddling up what association Sonic had with ‘looney-tunes’.
The original Daffy and Bugs Bunny humour was what was paid homage to – I think – in the cartoons. Is Ken on about that or is he confusing things. That’s all that is about.
And man, you didn’t even back up your reason for bringing up kid Icarus whatever his name is, you just stated, ‘he stayed retro for a reason!’ Any way this is rather dweeBie. Dweeb out.

So stop doing the job of someone who was hired (and there for more qualified than you.. apparently) to do their job.

Just saying this:
It matters not what a single man’s opinion is. He gives it in hopes that it may sway another to guide them along a desired path, lest it be cast away as a simple thought, but still, that thought shall dwell there and if enough are spoke of the same meaning, then it shall indeed influence another’s thinking…
That being said, don’t hate on another’s opinions, thoughts or anything of the sort if it doesn’t directly affect you… If you don’t like retro, thats your opinion. Apparently, there are MANY more who like the retro option added as opposed to the few… If battle was wrought out, who would win? The many, or the few?… In reality, it will never come to that, for the creators are the people who have the full say on everything. They can make the game a hunk of fail if they wanted. However, they make a living off creating games, right?… We are the people who buy the games, correct?… Now… Which group will present more profit and thus be more influencial in the overall finished work? The many… Or the few?
For those that bash on everyone else’s suggestion’s if they don’t match your own, you really need to get a life… You can’t agree with alot of the fan suggestions here on this page? Then give your own or shut up and stop patronizing them…
By the way, to tuki on comment#408, thanks for the link! I never really knew some of that stuff and I sent it to a few other people I know… Granted, I owned… Own every sonic game made officially by SEGA(not betas), but I didn’t know the FULL story behind it all…

TO SEGA:::
Dear sega (and the new sonic team),
This is what your music for the game should sound like:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCtXDkMX9Ss
And this is what also could be done:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRmd245fkg8
Also, if you dont mind a PC port please AND an actual megadrive port for one simple reason:
If you dont do, the sega md rom hackers will. Also, if you dont want to create a pc port, then you’re pretty much spitting in my face and saying “F U. GET A CONSOLE” and to pretty much everyone else who doesnt have consoles capable of and only has a pc . well im saying: no. why? i have one, a megadrive.
I apologize if this comment offended someone. (except sega and people from sega)

Man, Pixel.
Check the track ‘Mountains in thy Chest’ in the following link:
http://www.amazon.com/Masculine-Drugs-Book-Zach-Hill/dp/B0002KVUV6
That should be the direction for music for Sonic 4; and to some varying degree, the rest of the tracks on that.

Comment 426, Pixel: What a good and sound idea, consoles that were discontinued 15 years ago should always inexplicably have a game over a decade later for them that would be too big for it.
There was once plans for a Homestar Runner RPG for the Atari 2600. Yes, at least a decade of difference there, but similar idea anyway.
In conclusion, if they were to use 16-bit music I would be sad. “oh man you guys, limiting ones’ self is such a great idea!”

Since gaming has gotten relatively crap since growing up, I own none of the consoles you are releasing for…
Obviously I want it for the PC, but I think a release for the megadrive would be most awesome!

I don’t know if anyone is still reading the comments on this blog, but I have an interview with Ken Balough on Sonic 4 for when I attended E3 2 months ago.
I tried asking all the questions the fans would want to know (since no one else was likely to ask them on an interview, and from what I saw, I was right) so I hope this gives some of you some hope on the game or at least some more information.
This interview is 13 minutes long, so make sure you have the time for that before you watch.

umm nice job so far but still far from done… (ideas to add)
1.add charge spin release if you have not done so all ready
2. make sure the running is proportional to the scrolling
3. the levels are supposed to be about speed and/or platforming make the levels with this in mind
4. it is 4 right so where is tails, or and knuckles, possibly cream or shadow (make it more than one player with selectable char. online/local 2-4 player online and local both preferred or just sonic and tails 1 and 2 player one consul have ether miles follow sonic one player or sonic follow miles one player). This just adds more to the game and it will influence more people to buy it. (not many psn/xbox live games have online playibilty many just have leader-boards except for those stupid 10-15$ shooters)
5. don’t bother making a port for pc people will develop a hack so they can shear it to everyone and by pass any fail safes you put on it so don’t bother because you will lose all your profit and that would suck for you.

6. crap i forgot to post my other idea you know all those special colorful stages in sonic 2+3 include those as well Why? because you can develop the stages to have gems in them and once you get all the gems you get super sonic and they are fun almost as fun as the acts themselves (just another thing to add)
if you add these things i have suggested i have no doubt that you will get more buyers and a bigger fan base for sonic 4

Comment 434 and 435, classic sonic fan: For your third point, more speed and running than platforming. Just pointing that out. Also I think they’ve said more characters will be in the second episode, I can’t imagine why they’d wait for the second but maybe if you have both the first and second you can play as other characters in the previous ones like the Sonic & Knuckles lock-on stuff.
As for your sixth point, they said they have a special stage like Sonic 1′s, which, personally I thought was pretty boring, and I never liked Sonic 2′s just because I couldn’t for the life of me do it at all.
Also, this has only been mentioned once, but PLEASE have less rails. I was playing Sonic Rush Adventure the other day and started thinking “wow, this game has entirely too many rails!” I dunno I just prefer the running aspect more, I never really liked the rails in 2D or 3D Sonic games. They’re okay minimally.

Oh also forgot to add this:
“Oh, man, three months after this was first posted, I’m SURE that they’re still looking at it and taking ideas this far in!”
No one even posts here that often, so I can understand why if they don’t. If they do, cool. Less rails. And less multiple-spring areas. In fact, someone mentioned before basically “less having the game control you”. There was a level in SRA that had like 5 springs on two walls–in the old games, you’d just stick a spring at the bottom and just let you spring up there! What happened to that? Simple.

god dammit at some of those hater comments! why do you keep saying “OOOooOOO! SONIC 4 IS A LOAD OF BULLCRAP!” yknow sega is trying their hardest to make a sonic game that won’t make you say FAILURE. same with sonic unleashed! a load of people were saying the werehog was ugly but the look of the werehog didnt matter! i don’t care about the looks, i care about how fun the game is. guys, stop being a bich and wait till you play it. nintendo turned link into a wolf and the fans didn’t complain about it. why can’t people shut up about how the things look ugly in the game!?

lets hope the physics get polished. I would much rather they take their time and really focus on making a great game. I actually have more interest in the game now. Give the Sonic franchise to someone who can make good games. Cuz you guys have proved time and again that all you do is disappoint. That will make the game an immediate purchase. Man SEGA is really under the gun from the fans they just cannot screw this up this time. I was expecting some GOOD news to come out of today.Atleast they had a gameplay video. Let it simmer for maximum deliciousness. But i was always a fan of the old sonic games. They are the creators of the game. And I know there are others out there who think the same as well as some different. There was alot wrong and unbalanced with it. Either that or do more remixes of classic themes from similar levels. Sonic CD is well loved but not very well known. It shows that you really want this game to be fun. i remember one sega for genesis megadrive era. But I wish SEGA did a better job at this. iPhone was not any news to anyone. i cant say thit im surprised and im still waiting. That was too soon to make a good Sonic game. as for other characters i agree. This is barely anything like the classic sonics. Also you could use the extra data room for more content anyway. Im glad its delayed as its for fixing and tweaking. You will see its harder to make a game like Sonic The Hedgehog than it looks.I think its good that your giving it more developing time. you should have a preveiw for the special stage in this game. oh one question in the new game will it still be dr. eggman or will it be back to dr. There should be plenty of different aerial animations to keep it exciting and fresh. You almost always needed to run through a booster or something to make him even get close to max speed. The music from the Genesis era Sonic games is some of the most iconic from that generation. It needs to be out of this world. In other words what makes it fun. Instead how about giving targeted enemies the shimmer effect that rings possess e.of course android is forgotten .this better be worth every second. They all felt great to listen to. They arent what you need though. Im a fan of Sonic and a game designer that makes game music. Shell cracker for example is easily toppled from the looks of it. The player seems to be able to easily blitz through it without any trouble whatsoever. Increasing the length of hits it takes for the second phase would be nice. the player gorges on rings like no tomorrow in that stage. Include a harder mode with the option to disable the homing attack. Levels could be modified to suit this. It would add a lot of replayability and please more experienced players. This will give you a clear indication of what most of the people want from this game. The first Sonic on iPhone was horrible imo. I am thinking about getting a Wii. You have no idea how excited I am for this game. I support your decision to delay the game for quality control. Even the mechanic of turning the gear to move vertically through the level is lifted from that old level. That will also need work to be a proper follow up. One other thing I will mention for an example on this is Johnny Bravo. Many of us were lead to believe that we may see Classic Sonic as the second featured character on the site. Sonic needs an opening animation at the title screen. I wish Sega and Sonic Team luck on truly trying to give us older fans as well as the newer fans a great Sonic game that can please every generation of fans that have existed. That means there may be more people out there with similar thoughts. Thank you for taking the time to contribute here. Just add a classic Sonic model to the game. All the fans will be down on there knees crying your name and praising you. I doubt anyone wants to just be jogging through most of the level and only ACTUALLY dashing for a split second in each stage. But that is where things should stop.If one goes into the Special Zone then not all of them should go unless they wish to. It just looks a little too sloppy. Please go in and give that a fix. It just feels that the tracks were lazily composed in Garbageband within a couple hours with no passion. A longer musical excursion would improve the gaming experience. Keep the aspects of the classic games but incorporate some creativity. But Im hear to finally state that those cosmetic issues dont matter to me anymore. The facial expression looks uninviting and that could be a detriment in terms of advertising. Just this week is SEGA week on Steam. They also seem to want an unlockable sprite. I want some decent looking level design. Thank you Sonic team for having your programmers go over the physics engine again. A PC version would be the only way I could get it. Comment numbers often move around as we approve comments from others. We would not delete a comment just because someone disagrees with us. Sega I know will notice them and I want them to so that area of the fanbase can hopefully be pleased. I want the song to be more genesis like. The original games had an unforgettable soundtrack and many would expect no less of this one. But your main concern is by one of the most important. Aesthetics are a valid and legitimate complaint. These are my fan suggestions to either counter or support other fan suggestions. And it also has a lot of other silly things because I am sarcastic and insane. Anyone who wants to throw rocks at me for not thinking Sonic CD was really that great can. The US was weird and changed it to Dr. I never even liked the idea of bonus stages at the end of the level. The Sonic sidescrollers were never really platformy.S to all you haters of everything SEGA does. It would be cool if in the later episode Tails could charge a flight from the ground. sega acn make one add on hardware for next gen conoles. tha hardware converts this language to nactive language of videogames . Your voice is a reasoning for insanity. I think what will make us all happy is to bring that mobius feel back into the game. Just mind boggling besar and fast game play. I will never EVER lose faith in my supersonic blue hero. what surprise me so far is that their moving up tha date to better tha game. now u hv to think about the games they made so far. They are amazing and imagine if they were to move up the date allittle to advance them. Pretty beast games so im hopping to hear more about this game. I think of fixing things to the better. the sub characters were for fun and to make sonic interesting. like sonic and tha secret games. idk wat u were doing their like stick to a sonic like root. Tha first time I ever seen fang was sonic fighters and I thought he was kool. but really never seen him after tht. I know he was in other games but he kinda dissapeared. he has a gun tht shots out caps so u could get created. could lift thing and fly both his partners and throw them at people. sometime when I see metal sonic I think of another wanna be sonic. tht diamond shield like think could be a powerful attack and the thing in the center of his chest. Metal knux could do everything of knuckles but slower and instead of gliding he does a slower hover drop and unlike metal sonic can be in water. Chaos of course shoould be the power and could extend its arm to hit robots or things from distant and he could go from a human like figure to a puddle and move around like tht and find hidden passages ect. also when he gets in tha water he could transform into a fish like figure to swim faster. Thats where u messed up on Adventure. in fact I couldnt be more happy. this means less glitches and getting more of what we want from a sonic game. just look at games from blizzard. I hate when the level feels like its controling you. It would be awesome if this game contained the chaos emerald stages in bluesphere form. I thing all the other special stages pretty much stunk and where either too hard or too easy. And if we have voice acting i think the japanese voices should be available as well or maybe you could turn them off entirely just in case they are anoying. nobody plays the game simply because it looks good otherwise alot of classics would have failed. Reintroduce the zone transitions. Sonic being launched out of a cannon in Carnival Night and winding up in Ice Cap. You sure as hell better bring back the classic drowning music. I liked it back in SA where you could just homing attack around the map. Rushing has been proven to be the wrong thing to do and had major problems as a result. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I remember that where each zone transitioned into another. Which always made me go crazy trying to figure out how you can go from some aquatic ruins to a fancy casinolandzone. The answer is he originated as Eggman. Further showing the environmental effects of Death egg crash. But if the gameplay is the good Sonic gameplay then there you go. I am looking forward to this game. I believe in the idea of holding the game back and checking for errors and also getting more in dept to the development of the game. And all I ever did with debug mode was try to break the game with it. It can fly as it is without the wings. Please enjoy credit and payment. get that Radaxian politics in man. Kid Ickarus stayed retro for a reason. No one seems to realize these things. It was a fun hobby for a while though. I think I read somewhere online the reasons behind it. It can be all right to watch sometimes though. i love the sonci ova history line and love sega genesis history. its a better and rich history line. There is no type of game in recent times that is really something I can get behind. Everything after those games sucks. Curious about the Wii controls. and input the serial of the cartridge and download the game to the cartridge. However not all PC gamers have access to consoles. The iphone release is redundant. I want Sonic to go and drill a hole in the ocean bed with BP Sega. It would be great for a few fan remixes to make it into the game too. Do not listen to the sour people. I always wanted to be a part of its comunity of development when i grew up. I literally grew up with sonic games. I waited so long to see this happen. Make those levels LONG and a good amount of floating platforms. make it a bit more challenging we grew up with this and the youth playing as well arent retarded or slow. Add some darn challenge like it HAD. ESPECIALLY LOST LABYRYNTH And CASINO STREET. sonic needs to keep with the base idea but with expansions that work well. It wasnt even a solid loop back then. just feet running in circular motion faster than the eye can grasp. Put some challenge in the game. Tweaker is the main developer of the game and he formed a new group called Megamix Team. I recommend you take a look at some of their clips and walkthroughs on YouTube. This may spark even more ideas. Taking their time is the best way to make a game better. I only have a problem with the running animation since it kind of annoys me and the music is bland a bit but fixed only a little but other than that your doing great so far. Newer games only let you be Super for the final boss. Of course I always just call him Dr. Just note the parts that are polite. There were even people suspecting them to not return in Brawl. But you seemed to contradict yourself there.Ken Balough reckoned younger demograph wants from sonic. Is Ken on about that or is he confusing things. And Sonic is really the only game series I have nostalgia for.Damn I hope they do make it since they desided to make us wait more just to put it on the Ipod touch.PLEASEEEEE the psp really doesnt have a good sonic game the sonic rival games were not that good. This just adds more to the game and it will influence more people to buy it.Hope you like my post on video game trailers today.
