Phantasy Star Portable 2 for PSP Announced!Phantasy Star Portable 2 — the eagerly anticipated follow-up to Phantasy Star Portable — has now been announced for the Playstation Portable, and will be coming to North America and Europe in the Fall of 2010! Taking place three years after the end of the story missions that occur during Phantasy Star Universe, the denizens of the Gurhal System have dispatched the menace of the SEED — but the war effort has cost them, and with dwindling resources the game’s heroes will travel & take on entirely new challenges. The game allows up to four players to connect online via Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure modes, allowing people to play with their friends wherever they are. Fans of old school Phantasy Star can also rejoice — the game features the return of Battle and Challenge missions, adapted from the original Phantasy Star Online. These multiplayer options combine with an epic single player experience and story missions which allow for extensive and advanced character customization and exploration. In the true spirit of Phantasy Star, there really is a whole universe of things to explore: Phantasy Star Portable 2 features double the amount of content from previous games, with all new characters (and some returning favorites), over 100 missions, more than 170 enemies and all-new bosses, and more than 2,000 weapons and items. Combat has been enhanced as well, with familiar action-style combat of the Phantasy Star series augmented with all new features and abilities. Stay tuned for more news — and look forward to Phantasy Star Portable 2 in Fall of 2010!

Awesome! Will you guys be keeping all of the bizarre crossover/product placement/Sega easter egg stuff in the game? I want to play with Resonance of Fate’s clothing and a Pizza Hut Shield! Toro from Mainichi Issho and the Hatsune Miku and Evangelion outfits would be awesome too! (See here: http://www.siliconera.com/2009/10/15/now-evangelion-fatestay-and-hatsune-miku-are-in-phantasy-star-portable-2/)

Will Toro and Kuro along with the Val Chron 2 stuff make it over the sea intact?
Knowing Sega of America and Yakuza 3: Survey says… no.

I’m also hoping at the very least the majority of the content available (Anime Outfits, weapons, etc.) from the Japanese version will be made available. Some will definitely be cut (i.e. the Pizza Hut collaboration), but I hope most of the stuff will be brought over in the States.

…although I already own one, Valkyria Chronicles II was the only reason I need a PSP; this just sweetens the deal.

Don’t expect any collaboration/licensed items guys, outside of sega related items, and the game is awesome without them anyway!! if you want evangelion/miku/toro/fate/etcetera items just import the jp version.

Please make this a same day digital download on PSN. Probably that’s asking too much, but regardless just put it up on PSN please. I want to rock this on my Go.

This is a very poor choice of words. “old school Phantasy Star” refers to the original Phantasy Star series of traditional RPGs for the Sega Master System and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, not the Phantasy Star Online games. Some fans of the original series feel insulted.

Yay! I imported this game from Japan and even though I couldn’t understand it, it still had everything I ever wanted and could ask for in a video game. I’m so glad we’ll be getting it in English! Please, please keep in download missions/costumes and online play! I know it’s an extra expense for you all at Sega, but it adds so much to the game and so many fans (and reviewers) will look forward to them.

I have already played the Japanese version up to level 98 out of a possible 200 or so and It’s one of my favorite games even though I can’t understand anything. My current house theme is awesome and I paid 500k to make my character bigger. Lol. There is DL content that I got, but I really can’t do much with it being in Japanese and all. The pizza hut/ cake mystery portals are cool and there is even a Mystery portal boss that I have yet to kill. (It’s a big void dragon boss) Just telling you this game is worth the buy when it comes out in English. The story line is long and pointless in Japanese. Epic game. There is no need for Photon Charges in this game and it is much smoother than Phantasy star 1 for Psp. I enjoyed both, but PSP2 is a must get.

None of the special content will be released here in the US. Looking at PSO 1, 2, 3 as well as PSP 1 and Monster Hunter Freedom/2nd G nothing will carry over. It never does.
