Announcing Sonic Free Riders
To kick off E3 in style, we’re announcing our first Kinect game for Xbox 360 — Sonic Free Riders. Sonic Free Riders brings full body motion controlled fast-paced boarding action, developed to take full advantage of Kinect for the Xbox 360. You’ll be twisting and turning your way through a range of visually stunning courses in an action-packed Sonic experience unlike any other! Kinect’s unique motion sensor means Sonic Free Riders will see family and friends controlling their fully customizable hover board or bike by twisting, turning, and jumping in an exhilarating race to be first to cross the finish line. Choosing from one of your favorite Sonic characters or your own avatar, you can reach out and grab a variety of pickups along the course. By throwing, shaking, or swinging your arms to launch your items, you can gain the competitive edge over your rivals in high octane single or multiplayer races.
Sonic Free Riders will be available to play with Kinect for Xbox 360 coming Holiday 2010.

I’m with Gonzalo on this… partially. I’d love another game in the series for Wii, if it had online play. I’m a huge fan of Sonic Riders so although I’m not a 360 player, I’m kind of interested to see how fun this actually turns out to be.

Ditto what the first commenter said. Or maybe a PC version, but on DVD-Rom instead of download. The only computer I have that has an internet connection is my netbook and that wouldn’t be powerful enough to play this game.

Honestly, I’ve been a sonic fan since the early 90′s. I really need to see some semblance of entertainment in this concept. The 360 has more graphical capability, but Wii has cornered the market on motion gaming. This has potential for a lot of problematic issues. Bad controls, poor motion detection. Sonic riders is Sonic riders is Sonic riders. Same nintendo-logic of rehashing old ideas.
Now a make Sonic 4/Project Needlemouse compatible with motion data, absolutely. I’m sure I’ll pick it up though. No matter how good or poor a Sonic game is designed, I have to have it as part of the collection. I bought Unleashed, afterall. we’ll see how it plays out. I would love to be pleasantly surprised.

I almost got a PS3 FOR the exclusive Sonic game, but will not get an XBox360 for any game. I can’t stand the idea of paying to play online. Even though that Kinect thing sounds cool, really it just seems like it’d get really annoying to play. The whole Wii thing was kinda annoying after a while too.

I like how everyone here hates the Microsoft product =) i agree that Kenect is some type of new world order spy tool, its not just a motion sensor, its always listeing and watching, like the telescreens in the book 1984 “BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU” however this big brother is in the package of a fun little toy that familys can enjoy, while the main founders of the Eugenics movment (bill and melidna gates foundation) snicker as they gather information to sell you crap advertisements and tell you how you need a vaccine while you think its just a harmless motion sensor tool for your XboX. SEGA i wish you would bring back the old sonic team and andormeda, smilebit and AM2 we realy miss them.

@Daniel: Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, and coming soon, Sonic Colors, not to mention the Mario and Sonic titles. These are all games that have appeared or will appear on Wii that have yet to show up on the Xbox 360. The only Sonic title that has appeared on the Xbox 360 but not on the Wii is Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 (unless you also count Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection).

@Lemres- Yeah, I agree with you. It would be easier with a controller, because that way, you won’t have to jump around when playing and you might bump into one of your siblings, furniture, or anything else. Besides, how will you be able to pause without a controller?

I am conflicted about this game…sure The Sonic Riders series is sorta good. But the whole “Kinect” thing is the only thing insuring that this will be the ONE sonic game I might not get for once…It’s not your fault Sega, but I just don’t see the appeal of the Kinect…
But hey, you guys are still succeeding, so it wouldn’t matter if a few people don’t like this, you guys got Sonic game on the 3DS coming along, Sonic 4 ep. 1 , Sonic Colors, and next year a 20th Anniversary game. I know you guys will do well! =D

Noooooo! Not Riders! You guys should have created a normal like sonic game or a sonic game like Sonic Unleashed but not riders. sure its best for the new 360 but still. Jet gives the sonic games a bad name. Sonic never used a hover board and shouldn’t use it again. also the game is to hard. i can’t even beat the first level. out of all the games i played Sonic Riders were the hardest. I hope you can make this interesting and fun enough for every one to like it.

i wish the games were cool like the old cool ones for gamecube but with better graphics. like all these new games are gay and plot is terriblr. i miss having lots of levels being on the good side and bas side like sonic heros, and sonic adventure 2 battle and sonic DX. they were the best games. i always hope they make a new game tht u can be in a team again like sonic heros. and they should make another game where u can just run around a town and wannder and explore like sonic DX. tht was like the best game so far in my eyes.

I think this should also be for Wii I mean the Wii was the first motion game and I saw the E3 review on this game and you can the same same with Kinect then you can with Wii Balance Board, and the only thing you can’t do is Jump (but you can swat or jump up a little like you do in Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games) anyway I think the game will be awesome, because it reminds me of the first Sonic Riders, and I hope it’ll be for Wii because I don’t have Kinect (XBOX360).

Kinnet looks like it could cause serious problems a Wii and PS3 version need to be made so everyone will stop bitching (DS and PSP users your just assed out the game would fry the processor) and for god sake give it a Controler option Otherwise it will give us problems ( fast game + Motion gimmick + Multiplayer + Small room = Hospitalization.

I’d really love this game, SEGA, but how the heck am I going to get a Kinect AND buy the game at the same time? I have XBOX 360 Arcade but the Kinect isn’t even out yet so I’m not going to know the price it’s going to be in order to buy it. And if this game is only for Download, I’m probably out of luck because I have no clue first of all, how to get XBOX Live, how much it costs to even HAVE that, AND How much money were gonna have to pay to buy Sonic Free Riders just to play it. I only have two games for 360, 06 and Unleashed, but I don’t even have Live. This is going to be a frustrating hassle if I’m ever going to buy SFR, but perhaps someday if not this year, I will be able to get it. I’m directing my attention currently to Sonic Colours, which I will be buying for both Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii, and I agree with the comments about putting Sonic Free Riders on the Wii system. I own a Wii, and both Sonid Riders games, the second for both PS2 and Wii. And I hope that once, if ever, that I am able to buy this game, that Shadow and Silver will also be playable like they were in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. I shall be looking forward to knowing more about this game.

Ok sonic has always been part of nintendo. Now they come up with the game and it’s for xbox. Lame. I think the xbox kinect is just another updated version of the wii; to me they copided the wii idea with the moving. Sonic the hedgehog came out for xbox and not for wii. Now they this game to is not for wii,wow. Wii fans I think this comes to show you not to buy any more games from them. They can’t even keep a classic character that belongs to them. Just sad.
