E3 2010: Guinness World RecordsThe nice folks from Guinness World Records just stopped by to give SEGA 2 world records! Pictured with the awards above are (L-R) Darren Williams, Mike Hayes, and Haruki Satomi. The first award (pardon the glare) is for Valkyria Chronicles. The award is for best strategy RPG for the PS3! Valkyria Chronicles won Game of the Year, Strategy Game of the Year, and achieved average review scores of 86% and 86.38% in 2008. The second award is for Virtua Fighter. We received it for being the first fully 3D fighting game to employ polygon graphics as opposed to animated sprites in 1993. Here are Darren, Mike and Haruki with the people from Guinness World Records. Speaking of awards, I’ve just been told that a few more E3 nominations and awards have come in. We’ll have a full update on all the nominations and awards in a future blog post. It’s been a great E3 for SEGA games!

An award for Virtua Fighter? In 2010? How the heck did they get THAT late with it?

@ Haruchan:
The gaming section of Guinness is still pretty new. I believe it’s only in its second year if I heard correctly. They’re still determining what should be recorded and the like.

Virtua Fighter. I remember that game. It came out around the same time that Virtua Racer hit shelves too.

Now maybe people will stop pretty much ignoring Valkyria Chronicles now. I have so many friends that just thought it’s just some JRPG and not the stellar game it is.

Wow, “Virtua Fighter” was released in *1993*?!
That’s amazing! It definitely deserves Guinness recognition!

Very cool, and Valkyria Chronicles totally deserves it, it’s a great game! But when will we see a trophy patch?
And Virtua Fighter is awesome too, sure spent a lot of coins on it during the summer of 1994!

I’m not sure if the Valkyria Chronicles record is specific enough.
Didn’t Sonic Adventure get the ‘The first fully 3D adventure game featuring Sonic’ record?

Congratulations sega.
when appears a company or a jury is not skewed the true recognition appears.
and yes, I am implying that ign is biased, especially after the review doubtful that it made of sonic unleashed.
link to review questionable.
=> Http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suDKNVjA100
and this is a fact that will never forget, because after the ign committed such a failure, it eventually undermine their credibility with fans from sonic (which are many more than the ign think)
know the fans of sonic respect the other fans of other games, and just as they respect, they like to be respected.
Congratulations to harvest, Congratulations to Guinness
I am very happy

Congratulations!
How many guinness world records does SEGA have now? I’m pretty sure they have some more in the Arcade business. And for Shenmue as the most expensive game.
