Phantasy Star Portable 2 Demo live on PSN!The Phantasy Star Portable 2 demo has just gone live on the US PSN store! Download it, play it online with friends, and let us know what you think! This demo is built to give you a good sampling of what the full game has to offer, which is a whole lot of awesome online play (and offline!), all free of subscriptions. We can also confirm how getting online will work with the full game. Each copy will come with a unique, one-time code that will be linked to your PSN Account. When you buy your copy at Gamestop or any video game store, you’ll find the code inside the box. Likewise, if you download it digitally, the code will either be in the digital manual you get, or will automatically flag to your account. Once your PSN account has this code activated, you’ll be all set to go online in the full game, and your membership is good forever. That’s our little way of saying thanks for picking up the game and helping support the franchise. We’ll have more news about the full game, including a new trailer, in the not too far off future – until then, we hope you all enjoy the demo!

Does this mean that the game will be available for download on day 1 from the PSN Store? If so, I will no longer regret my PSPgo purchase!

So how will the “Each copy will come with a unique, one-time code that will be linked to your PSN Account” play into people purchasing the title second hand?
Any plans for PSN vouchers in that respect?

What’s the level limit on the demo? I’m level 15 and I’m not noticing the exp bar move at all.

Great demo! Now why not release Phantasy Star Portable 1 on the PSN Store before the sequel’s release? Do it now!

I am so happy you are releasing this on the Playstation Network for download. I was regretting buying a PSP Go, but this game will keep me busy for a long time. Thank you, so much SEGA!
Please release Phantasy Star Portable 1 on the PSN. Oh and (wishful thinking) bring the Sega Ages Phantasy Star re-makes to america!

“So how will the “Each copy will come with a unique, one-time code that will be linked to your PSN Account” play into people purchasing the title second hand?”
If it’s anything like anything like purchasing a used mmo and you want to create a new account, you’re out of luck. Buy new. I’m basing this on the “one-time” part there. Ultimately, companies aren’t responsible for used sales which are technically not intended by the company that created the game. Most online titles with stipulations like one-time use come with a disclaimer saying “Not for resale.”

Would that be “…. speculation is power!”?

Eh, it’s more like common practice, but it is speculation too. I’ll grant you that. -Tip of the hat-

Just tried the demo yesterday. Put in my presale reserve today.
Pros: It’s more of the same as PSP1.
Cons: Don’t like how the shading jumps back and forth during the visual novel portions.
Comments: You have to update to OFW 6.31 to play online multi-player.

Of course this game is very excellent indeed, however I do have a few minor nit-picks about the differences between the US and Japanese versions.
1: There are no longer voices in the skits, only events. That was a bit disappointing, yet I can understand to reduce memory consumption it would work.
2: The AI-Partner characters don’t taunt or jump around as much as they used to anymore compared to the Japanese version, that was also a bit…. dull. Though I do think it may stop a certain glitch and also helps when focused on fighting.
3: Did the hiragana and katakana have to be removed? That was quite a big disappointment.
now for other personal issues:
4: The bosses who returned (or more likely, Seed Beasts which survived our first assault) have drastically changed; Del Rol Lee has became far weaker (and can I also say somewhat stupider?) than in the previous game and had me very disappointed, even though I’m a Force in this game he hardly harmed me much. De Rangus (misspelling?) the two headed Dragon boss was also a bit toned down. In contrast on another side however, other bosses have became way too aggressive like in Monster Hunter; De Raggan and Zhol Goug act as brutish as Rathalos (charge, charge, tail swipe, charge, fireball, tail swipe, charge, fly, counter-ground fireball…–repeat) and are far more aggressive than before, and the Dimoglus seems to have “steel wings” and is very hard to shoot out of the sky, and Dark Falz became…. a fish???
5 (silly): Why does Emilia keep jumping into the line of enemy fire when I’m under attack while I was the one who was to protect her instead? *facepalm* (she does this on both versions)
oh, and @ the eighth: Of course Level 15 is the cap limit of trial players, it’s sadly chopped by 5 off the tab in this demo in exchange for more content open compared to PS-P1′s demo
Overall. It’s a major impressive game, but with some content removed…
