Gunblade NY & LA Machineguns Out NowSega is proud to announce that Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns, two fast-paced and beloved arcade shooter games in one package, is now available exclusively on Wii™! Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns offers players two classic arcade light gun shooters for one great value. Featuring immersive pick up and play action that stays true to the original arcade games, up to two players can control Gunblade helicopter gunships and work cooperatively to destroy an android terrorist invasion in the airspace above some of the United States most well-known locations. Players begin by combating android invaders in New York City and from there, they take their gunships to battle new forces of enemies in Los Angeles and other familiar West Coast locales such as Alcatraz, Yosemite and Las Vegas. There’s no need to reload, as players will be equipped with infinite ammo, just like in the arcade; just pull the trigger and blast away at android terrorist enemies and exploding objects, and watch as the environments become strategically destroyed as well. The game contains new features such as the Chain Combo System which enables even higher scores, and the Unlockable Weapon Toggle which uses game ranking to unlock hidden extras such as wide shot, rapid fire and heavy shot. Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns is compatible with the Wii Zapper™ and is packed with a host of added Wii™ features like online leader boards for worldwide ranking and Wii Remote™ vibration to complete the experience. The game is available now for $29.99.

So, now, and not the 24th? You could have told us that sooner instead of surprising us…you know, by letting a lot of Gamestops forget they’re supposed to carry it, pushing back its release date on Amazon, and declaring it “Out Now” as of the 23rd. Still don’t have mine (but ordered it). If it were a month’s delay and it were announced a month earlier, that’d be fine, but your last-minute negligence of the game’s release serves only to confuse everyone who’s interested in buying.
You and/or Sega Japan took a gamble producing this pack. It deserves better than similarly priced dreck like Tournament of Legends. Thanks a ton for making the Gunblade pack, but don’t blame us if it doesn’t succeed.

Gonna have to side with JetDog on that point.
Anyway, these games aren’t the same without the arcade cabinet but that won’t stop me from buying this pack. I can just shake my arms every time I shoot just like how I sometimes move my body around when I’m playing After Burner Climax.

Now, after finally getting my copy, I can follow up.
I bought this game knowing that it wouldn’t be the same without those rattling mounted gun controllers, and therefore, expecting to be slightly disappointed. In fact, I came away impressed and eager to play again, due to the inherent strength of the games as high-speed spectacle. The cinematography is a rush, and a good ranking demands a strong resolve to NOT get hit (which makes me appreciate the wide-open online leaderboards all the more). Since I am weirdly fond of chunky polygons and uncluttered art direction, Gunblade NY is my favorite game aesthetically, but LA Machineguns is more rewarding when you build up a nasty combo or avoid blasting a bunch of panicky civilians.
Though the presentation is lacking in historical context — flyers, interviews, and such that most retro packs would provide — the addition of 480p and widescreen rocks, and the Wii team was wise to focus their attention on making them look as good as possible on new hardware. Keeping the rolling demos intact adds style points, considering how many recent Sega ports have dropped those entirely.
Even if Gunblade’s return was slightly botched at retail, I hope Sega continues to release similar Arcade Hits Packs in the near future. This one is a very good omen, and I sincerely thank everyone at Sega responsible for getting it made.

I hope that Innex M-rated gun peripheral makes it out because I think the title will pair quite nicely with it.
