Valkyria Chronicles II Community BLiTZ – Finale: Succeeded Wish(Before you start reading this blog, we recommend getting this music playing in the background!) Finally, the release day has come. As Valkyria Chronicles II ships to stores across the US, the long wait for the sequel to the PS3 masterpiece is over. Writing a new, lengthy piece for the BLiTZ each day has been a challenge, but one always made worth it by the amazing responses we get from you guys – the fans. We hope you’ve enjoyed the stream of info, pictures, and prizes just as much as we enjoy seeing your excitement. We have a very special finale today to say thank you to all the fans. For following us from day 1, for supporting great titles like Valkyria Chronicles, and for getting out there to pick up and also support the second game – here is our tribute to you. A special message for the fans – from the Valkyria Chronicles devsJust after we began the BLiTZ, I put in a rather selfish request to the developers over in Japan, asking them if they would like to take part in our final day of the BLiTZ and write a message to the fans. The request itself was on very short notice, and I had actually only expected maybe one or two members of the dev team to write back. Instead, they found time amidst their busy schedule to write something very special for all of you. And not just one – but a great many of them, each responsible for something unique within the series, all took time out of their day to create the following messages, just for the Valkyria Chronicles fans in the west. And here they are: Their messages, and their role in the team: Shinji Motoyama Chief Producer We’ll be waiting for you in the new battlefield!
Takanobu Yoshino Localization Director Try collecting all the medals with Avan and his comrades. Hope you like Vario!
Kazuhiro Matsuta Chief Programmer We put in all you can ever want for a portable game. Thank you for supporting Valkyria Chronicles II!
Hirotaka Kanazawa Chief Artist The new Valkyria Chronicles is loaded with new tanks, weapons, characters, and so much more! Protect Gallia with your one and only Class G! (JP message: Protect the homeland!) Shuntaro Tanaka Chief Adviser Valkyria is back!
Takeshi Ozawa Original Director All Valkyria fans are my fellow comrades!!
Kohei Yamashita Chief Game Designer Valkyria is THE strategy game of the century. You’ll find out that it’s worth 100 times what you pay for, so you gotta play it!
Daisuke Tabayashi Setting Designer All Valkyria fans, here we go! Make way for Edelweiss!! …Sorry, you don’t have Edelweiss this time. But you get to customize your tank to the limits! The magnificent world of Valkyria Chronicles and the BLiTZ system are greater than ever, so get ready for some fun! (+ the illustration)
Akio Horii Map Designer Thank you very much for supporting Valkyria Chronicles!! And thank you, to everyone above, for taking the time to write those messages. A call to actionAs the day arrives, we hope that everyone will do their part to support the series. Whether that’s simply picking up the game, telling your friends about it, or even cosplaying VC at PAX this week – every little things helps, and collectively as fans, we can move mountains when we all do even just a little. Thank you to the many who are already doing that – and to everyone who plans to pick up or download a new copy of the game to support Valkyria Chronicles! A super rare finale prize!
We’ve saved the best for last. Today, we’re going to give away the huge Japanese Development Works artbook, which is worth over $60 alone and is a masterpiece filled with art and design concepts from the entire first game. Massive is an understatement. But this one is special. This artbook has also been signed by those above – the Japanese development team, and the back inside cover has both messages from them and even a sketch of the Edelweiss all drawn onto it. To date, only two of these exist in all of the US – and you can win this one.
We’ll draw one winner at random from here on the blogs, and they’ll get one amazingly rare piece of merchandise to add to their collection! What comes nextAs the BLiTZ finishes on our end, it passes on to all of you – to the world of Valkyria Chronicles II that you can now experience, and to the battles, characters, and story that awaits. Our support for Valkria Chronicles II is far from over, and we’ll be back soon with even more news on the upcoming DLC for the game, and some special codes to unlock new content – some exclusive to the west! On behalf of all of our teams, thank you for joining us through the entire Community BLiTZ. If you liked it, please let us know! Happy Valkyria Chronicles II day everyone – we hope you’ll love the game!

Developers, thank you for the awesome game! It’s so impressive how much the second game is like the first one, despite being on a portable system.

I think you guys have done a wonderful job in creating this very special series. The way you’ve written the characters, especially the way you manage to humanitize the Villains so that despite being on opposing sides of the War we really feel and care about them even if we believe they are wrong, and the strong bond formed between the members of Squad 7 as they struggle through the war and deal with loss and hardships.
The series means a lot to me because it really shows how strong bonds of friendship can be and how not every person you disagree with is all that different from yourself in a lot of ways. It’s also been the source of many hours of fun I’ve had since it was released in the west which has really helped me through some of the tough times I’ve gone through myself.
In short? you are all wonderful people and I hope to see more great success from you in the years to come.

I want to thank the Valkyria Chronicles development team for coming up with the series. It’s been one of the most refreshing IPs this gen amongst a saturated market, and now stands as one of my favorite series and a welcome addition to the PS diverse library. Between the great gameplay, the gorgeous art style, and the interesting cast of characters (someone for everyone to like), there is just so much right done in the series.
I know the development team wants to try out other additions (aerial and naval units) and I really do hope they get the chance to do so in a Valkyria Chronicles 3, which I know the team and fans would love to see back on the PS3 again. Given what’s been built into VCII built on top of what’s been done in the first, I look forward to what this talented team has in store for the franchise in the future.
So here is to the development team and more Valkyria Chronicles titles with the same attention and care in the future on PS3 and PSP

Valkyria Chronicles is the game that restored my faith in Japanese RPGs. Everything about it is dripping with charm and love – the style, the gameplay, and of course the characters. Valkyria Chronicles has managed to do what no game since the 16-bit era has been able to – catapult itself all the way into the list of my top 3 favorite games of all time. It’s in good company with Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger.
Thanks for bringing us VC2, but next time let’s take it back to consoles and return to the style of the first game, shall we?

Thank you for making Valkyria Chronicles! It’s my new favorite tactical RPG (the best one since Final Fantasy Tactics) and among my all-time favorite games. I hope to see another PS3 game soon! (Tokyo Game Show, perhaps?)

Developers, Developers, Developers, Developers, what to say… You done good! Valkyria Chronicles is personally my favorite game of all time, after beating it I actually felt like “Well that’s it! Gaming can’t get any better than this!” Then you announced Valkyria Chronicles 2, and while I’m sad that it isn’t on the PS3, I can safely say(having played the Japanese version) that Valkyria Chronicles 2 is just as good as the original. I don’t know how you do it, but keep it up! You’re awesome! And I know this is a bit soon, but bring on the Valkyria Chronicles 3(for PS3, of course)!

The development team behind Valkyria Chronicles deserves all the praise. Not only have they brought innovation to the RPG genre, but they also packaged it with a powerful and moving story of war that is undoubtedly one of the most mature narratives to ever be created. I also personally want to thank them for packaging the soundtrack in with the original Valkyria Chronicles. A fantastic soundtrack shouldn’t be ignored and I’m gald the development team held the same belief!

Thank you so much for bringing us another installment of this incredible game. Valkyria Chronicles is still my favorite PS3 game, and still my favorite RPG of this generation. I am indebted to you for trying something new with the genre and sticking to it, and giving us gamers something truly unique and enjoyable. I truly look forward to taking the world of VC with me on my PSP and plan on spending many more hours maneuvering tanks and lining up headshots as I work towards those elusive A rankings.
Again, thank you!

Valkyria Chronicles was a game I bought on impulse, I had heard nothing, read nothing and knew nothing about the game, but the cover and the tittle made me interested enough to buy it. After playing it for a while, I was in love with it, everything was perfect for me, the setting, the characters, the story, in fact, this is the first game that made me care about all of my units, and that made me interested in knowing more about each individual instead of viewing them just as another soldier or another unit I could control.
The gameplay was really interesting as well, me being mostly an fps gamer, the way Valkyria Chronicles played was a really refreshing change for me.
Most of what I wanted to say has been said already, so I’ll go with the good old thank you, here goes:
THANK YOU for creating this awesome game, THANK YOU for creating such an awesome universe, filled with interesting characters, really cool locations and a really deep story behind everything, and THANK YOU for introducing me to the wonderful world of Valkyria Chronicles.
I bought the first game as an impulse buy, and I would do it again and again and again after experiencing this awesome piece of art.
With Valkyria Chronicles 2 I’ll probably buy more than 1 copy, 1 digital to be able to play it faster, and 1 or 2 physical copies depending on whether or not it’s released here (there has been no confirmation or even mention of VC 2 making it here), I’ll also buy a copy for my cousin probably, because even though he couldn’t play the first one since he doesn’t own a PS3 there’s no reason for him to miss this one since he does have a PSP.
The same goes for VC 3 if it ever gets done, I’ll buy it and I’ll continue to support this awesome franchise.
So, again (I really feel like I can’t say it enough times), THANK YOU!

I just wanted to say thank you for bringing the world of Valkyria Chronicles to us all. The music, the art, the characters and above all else the gameplay are all so beautiful and so enjoyable to play.
Valkyria Chronicles made me want to protect every member of squad 7, and the reason behind this was the way you helped develop them. I’ve honestly not felt this postive about a game for a very long time and I am so grateful that the magic of gameplay has not been lost over the years.
The fact you actually built on the enemy and didn’t just paint over them with a standard cliched gloss was very welcome. You actually made us look at the enemy in a totally different light. Very rarely do developers bother to have a back story and character development for the “bad guys”.
All of you should be very proud of this achievement.
Here is to a long and successful series, to Valkyria Chronicles!!

Thank you for making these wonderful games. One of my favorite things about them is the unplanned heroic moments that happen in them. For example, in chapter 7 of VC1, I was on the ropes in a bad way, one turn away from losing. The Eidelweiss was down to 100hp, and half my squad was dead in the dirt. As a last ditch effort, I called in an Dallas the Engineer as a reinforcement, who up until that point was no more than a reserve unit I had never used. She managed to run across the map under fire, restore the Eidelweiss from 100hp, and get the medic to Rosie! She saved the day, and I would’ve stuck a medal on her if I could.
These are simply some of the best strategy games ever made, and a true evolution of the genre. Thanks again!

Valkyria Chronicles was the first SRPG that I’ve ever played and it was magnificent. In fact, I would go so far to say that it’s not only my favorite game on the Playstation 3, but that it is the best game released this console generation (Xbox 360/PS3/Wii).
Since then, I’ve found that SRPGs are my favorite type of game and I’ve been playing every single one that I can get my hands on! Thanks you guys so much for VC1 and although I’m only a couple hours in, I’m really enjoying Valkyria Chronicles 2! I love Anisette!
(Here’s hoping that there is a Valkyria Chronicles 3! ^^)

VC is a truly excellent and wonderful game. The series is refreshing and innovative, which the knowledge, skills and techniques learned in the production of the games shall aid you men and women in further ventures. Your team has set a very high standard with Valkyria Chronicles from the storyline, to the gameplay and the graphics, and hopefully you guys will turn out an even greater masterpiece in the future!
Oh and you don’t need to apologize for not bringing back the Edelweiss Mr. Tabayashi. Sure the weapons and vehicles are awesome, but it is each and every soldier, each unique person behind the weapon and the machine that wins the war. The connection that you can get us to build between each character counts for a great deal more, and a much more awesome experience than the unique rather than generic weapons.
Thank you for your messages to us fans of your work. May you guys and gals have a great 2011! What more is there to say than “Team, move out!”

I consider the original Valkyria Chronicles to be the best game of the current generation, and I was stoked to learn of the sequel back when it was announced. I was a bit skeptical at first when Valkyria Chronicles 2 was slated for release on the PSP, but after playing it now, it’s great. Please keep the series going as long as you can.

I’ve been playing games since the Atari age. As consoles have come and gone there are maybe a handful of games that I can still say I love, games that did something different, games that stood out from all the other games around them without comparison. The Valkyria Chronicles games are definately among them.
The art design (battlefield, characters, vehicles), the music, the gameplay are just done brilliantly. They give the VC games such an immersive experience. I was drawn into the story, cared for my characters (if someone died, mission restart!), and I could play for hours on end.
I was even almost late for work once, losing complete track of time immeresed in a pretty difficult(at least for me) skirmish. There’s no better feeling than pulling off a victory in a battle you think you have no chance of winning. I don’t think any other game gave me such a feeling of accomplishment.
You could tell a lot of time, a lot of effort, and a lot of love was put into this series and it pays off big time. Valkyria Chronicles is still my favourite game for the PS3 and though I don’t have it in my hands yet, I know the PSP version will be the same. Though this time I can bring the battles to work with me!
So, I’d like to thank the developers very very much for making such a fantastic game like this. Valkyria Chronicles is a game series I’m sure I’ll be enjoying for years to come.
Thank you also to the Sega of America team for taking a chance on what may haved seemed like a nieche title and localizing it for all of us to enjoy.
Thanks again everybody! Now just promise us part III is on the way and you’ll localize it ASAP

I want to thank you all devs for making this incredible series that is Valkyria Chronicles.
For the first time in my life, a game really meant something to me. Because of it, I learnt something that every person in the world should learn someday: The true meaning of war. Before watching the anime, I was afraid of being sent to war and, mostly, of the very idea of killing other person. But, with VC, I realized that killing at war means surviving and protecting the ones you love. Now, I can say that I’m not afraid of war anymore.
Not like everyone else, I didn’t start VC by the PS3 game. I first watched the anime and was blown away. A friend of mine has a PS3 and I bought him a VC as a “gift”, so I could play with him. It was really awesome. Today, I bought a PSP just to play the second game and I already unlocked Isara!

The original Valkyria Chronicles is my favorite game ever. I really appreciate the love and care that went into crafting the wonderful experience it brought. The way the story was told was remarkable. Everything blended together so well that it was almost perfect. You guys are true geniuses and I’ve told all my friends that have PS3′s about the game and have forced a few of them to buy it.
I’ve preordered VCII and will be picking it up today. I cannot be more excited. Everything I’ve seen, read, and played has pointed to this being equal or better to the original in terms of content and gameplay. I’ve tried to keep away from information about the story, so I really can’t say much about that. Regardless, I’m super stoked.
I look forward to playing VCII and your future releases forever! Cheers!

Simply put, Valkyria Chronicles is a game that I will never forget. I feel better for having it in my life, and knowing that I can directly extend my thanks to the people who created it is one of the wonders of our day and age. When we rush to the store to buy the game, the only indicator of appreciation that the developers used to see was the $60 dollar deposit each sale made along with a few accolades from reviewers. Now we can let these people know directly through blogs such as this; Let them know that their game made us cry, made us laugh, made us question the assumptions and judgements we use to construct our every day lives. In effect, while the developpers give us the gift of their hardwork, we can give them the gift of letting them know that their efforts were not in vain, that they made a difference, no matter how big or how small.
Thank you, for everything.

You have created a totally unique game and I have to say that it has certainly provided me with one of the most memorable experiences in my 22 years of gaming life. Strategy, RPG and shooter genres are my favorites, and it’s safe to say that Valkyria Chronicles successfully managed to create a great game by mixing all of these. However what makes it a true masterpiece is having this detailed setting, story and atmosphere that draws from both history and mythology.
I thank you from the heart for creating and developing it and continuing the series. I also want to commend you for trying to explore something new yet still supplying gamers what they want and cannot find nowadays: Games that go deep, require to think and put effort. I hope that you’ll be continuing the series in the next years as well, without over-simplifying the gameplay or story.
My best wishes for your good health and success! May the Valkyria watch over you!

When I first heard of Valkyria Chronicles, I thought “Hey, that looks like it could be fun.” I was intrigued at first by the graphics and then I started looking into how the game played. I thought that it would just be another fun game to play and beat once or twice. I really didn’t expect the masterpiece of a game! The BLiTZ battle system is very unique and I immensly enjoyed it. In many strategy games, the player can’t control what the characters actually do, such as aim or take cover. This gem of a game teaches good lessons, especially in this day and age; Even in war and death, new life does still come about. Don’t get all caught up in the evil that goes around. Don’t let that swallow you. Love is still possible, even amongst perssecusion. I had been waiting for the sequal for Valkyria Chronicles ever since I played the original. I really hope for a third, if possible. This development team rocks!

You guys have created the best and most unique game series out there and I really do hope that this is just the beginning for you guys. While the first game was a sleeper hit those of us who did get a chance to play what only could be called a masterpiece got hooked on it. Valkyria Chronicles had gorgeous graphics and the extremely compelling story along with characters that really do touch you. Not only that but the tactical game-play is so unique that no other game could possible come close to touching.
VC2 seems like it’ll be another great game, like many other though I felt somewhat disappointed that it was to be on the PSP and not again of the PS3. Luckily for my case I still have my PSP and in the end I guess it will be cool that I could take this game with me where ever I go, bored at the airport or what have you. I do hope that the series will make a triumphant return to the PS3 with VC3 though.

Dear Valkyria Chronicles Dev Team,
Thank you for not only creating a classic in the PS3 release, but for creating another game in the franchise. Your ideas I found to be very creative and fun to play. As someone who was not interested in strategy games before, the Valkyria Chronicles franchise has converted me to the genre! The characters, art, music, and creative game play have made me Valkyria (strategy) gamer!

Nothing short of epic, that’s the only way you could describe this game. Never have I encountered a game that’s as unique as this. It was a strategy game where you need position your units well to win. An RPG where you can upgrade your equipment ang progress through a storyline so well written. An Action game where each move is in real time and you’ll immediately suffer the consequence of making a wrong move. It’s a mix of all three that makes this game, epic. It’s a brand new genre in my opinion, and it’s a great one indeed.
The mix of a wonderfully written story, a great soundtrack and fantastic gameplay made this game the most hidden gem in this generation. To be honest, more than all the other great exclusives for the PS3, this is what made me buy mine. Since the game is sold out across Canada, I drove down to the states, went to the nearest Gamestop to but it. It took me a whole day (traffic + getting lost) and a bunch of money for gas but not once did I ever regret it. Valkyria Chronicles is truly a magnificent game. It’s just a shame that it didn’t get the hype that it should. Those who know the game, love it and swear how great it is. Those who don’t know it are missing a lot.
It seems such a cliche thing to say but more power to you guys! May you never run out of imagination and create games such grand and wonderful as Valkyria Chronicles.

Dear Dev Team-
Valkyria Chronicles is easily one of the best games I have played this decade. The art style of the game is the best I have seen in any game that has been released.
I often find myself saying things like “Man, could you imagine this type of game, but with Valkyria Chronicles’ art style? That would be spectacular!”
I think the public has just been beat over the head too much with photo-realism, that I’m starting to lose interest in the newer games. But along comes VC, and that interest has been revived!
I have been sitting around my computer all day anxiously awaiting the PlayStation Store update so that I may buy VC2 as soon as it is available. Thank you for creating one of the greatest gaming experiences I’ve ever had. May the sequel be as brilliant and emotional as the first, if not more so!
Love, Matt
P.S. You know, if you can later on patch in the Freesia York update so I can get my favorite Scout back and learn more about her, that would be much appreciated. Or you know, you could send me some art of her. Almost impossible to find any decent images of her on the web.

I bought multiple copies of the first game and gave them to friends to play and love as well. Thank you for giving us such an awesome game, story and a land I want to come back to again and again. Okay Team 7, head out and support more Valkyria Chronicles!

I’ve truly enjoyed the Valkyria Chronicles series and have been looking forward to the release of the 2nd game in the series. When I first saw the game, I was surprised by the beauty of the way it looked and the way it felt when you saw it in action and there were moments in the first game which were moving as well as heart breaking. In a sense I guess I really got to know the character very well.
I hope to see more of Valkyria Chronicles in the future!

Valkyria Chronicles to me is a game that proved to me not to judge a book by it’s cover. This game got no hype from me the first time I saw it. But my friends and people I respected said it was “just so much fun”. I listened to these people and bought the game, and found one of my most favorite games to date.
The first time I put in the game I loved the way the graphics looked. The trailer didn’t excite me, but seeing the game in person blew me away for some reason. Perhaps being into anime helped it. I felt like such a jerk not giving this game a chance when I first saw it.
The characters and story really drew me in. I almost instantly loved all the characters. Each and everyone of them had something likable about them, no matter how strange they were. The gameplay stunned me the first time I played it, but it a fantastic way. After finishing the prologue mission, I knew I was playing something special. Something I would remember for the rest of my life. Sure that sounds melodramatic, but it truly is my honest feelings.
I could go on and on some more about how I love this game, but I think I can sum it up in two words. Two words to everyone who made or helped the game along in it’s production. Whether you read this or not:
Thank you.
– A grateful fan of Valkyria Chronicles.

Dear VC Devs:
When Valkyria Chronicles was first announced, I though it was one of the more beautiful and imaginative games this gen. When the demo came out, I convinced one of my friends to download it, so I could try it out. Upon playing it, my thoughts were confirmed. The Canvas engine and Blitz system made for an amazing experience.
Unfortunately, I never had a chance to play the full game. I don’t own a PS3 of my own, and most of my friends passed up on the chance to get it. It was also sad to hear about the poor sales on this side of the ocean. Yet you guys didn’t let that phase you, as you continued to support it with DLC, down to releasing the 4th one over a year after the game came out.
This is why, to show my support, I bought Valkyria Chronicles II today, even though I don’t own a PSP. I know what you’re thinking, “Why did this guy buy a $40/¥3400 game for a system that he doesn’t own?!” First, I believe in you guys enough that I would buy the game day one before I even get the system to play it. Not even Persona, another series I love that’s moved to PSP, could get me to do that. Second, I wanna have it before it gets hard to come by. The original VC can be quite hard to find around where I live. Finally, I don’t want the same thing that happened to VC happen with VCII. I hate to see Developers fail to succeed when they have something really great to offer.
So, I thank you for supporting it for so long, and hope you continue to support the series for time to come. Here’s to the day when I finally get a PSP and can tear off the wrapping on VCII (if I don’t before then) to play it.

Well what can I say? Valkyria Chronicles is a great game! In fact it’s so great, I actually bought a PS3 just so I could play it! Anyway I’d just like to thank all the devs for their hard work, and to thank them for bringing us such a great game!
Cant wait to see what the future holds. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for making one the most refreshing games of this generation. While most developers are adding stubble to their space marines, you guys created a vibrant world with some real heart. I got lost in reading all the glossary entries in the first Valkyria Chronicles. The battle system is more addictive than any other strategy game, too. I hope that VCII keeps the ball rolling on this franchise, and look forward to VCIII!

I really loved the art style in VCI. The gameplay was unique as well and it wasn’t gimmicky. It was new but still remained engaging. I really liked the game and told many of my friends to get it to help support it.
It’s sad that a really awesome game didn’t get the attention it deserved. It wasn’t a first person shooter so the American market didn’t go crazy about it. It was different and had a far deeper story than any first person shooter. I guess people fear change or are just so set in their ways that they didn’t want to give the game a try. But even with the limited support I am grateful that you guys still supported the game with some DLC.
I think VC could become a great franchise. I hope you guys continue to work on it and improve an already stellar IP. I picked up VCII and look forward to playing through it. Thank you.

To the development teams of Valkyria Chronicles I and II, I give my congratulations. Congratulations not only for creating two of the most unique, most impressive, and most innovative games for both the PS3 and PSP, but also for imbuing these games with such humanity among so many characters that the games are also among the most beloved of all time. Do you realize that for a few months after the release of the first VC, it was the highest rated PS3 game of all at Amazon.com? It would have been the highest rated video game at Amazon.com, period, if not for a few older classics like Chrono Trigger. The US PlayStation Blog noted in a video recently that people who are into Valkyria Chronicles are REALLY into Valkyria Chronicles, and the degree of truth in that statement cannot be overexaggerated. I’ll have you know that Alicia’s Gallian military uniform being a module in Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA was actually a factor in my decision to import that game.
The hard work, the technical skill, and the soul that you all put into the Valkyria Chronicles games are very much appreciated by the fans. Thank you for these amazing, touching experiences. 感動しました。 今も感動しています。 心からありがとうございました。 ヴァルキュリアを続けて下さい!

The Valkyria series is one of the great unsung gems of our era. Gaming is meant to push the boundaries of interactivity and give players a world that can be truly sunk into, but all too often we get bald space marine after bald space marine.
What Valkyria has done is mesh world design, character design and gameplay together in a masterful way. From a world that makes sense (despite over-the-top anime elements) to characters that have true personality to gameplay that exploits that personality. Instead of ignoring character’s little quirks when it comes down to gameplay, they become vital points to learn. From sneezing in a pollen field to a hate for the soldier you’re supposed to be fighting with to a determination not to fall in front of your loved ones, everything about the games screams character.
These are the reasons why those who fall for the series become hardcore addicts. Not for a shiny piece of loot you’ll replace next dungeon, but for a world and characters. These reinforcements make the world you’re interacting with feel more alive and less like a series of 1s and 0s.
This is what we need more of, regardless of genre.

To the hard working Staff,
I just want you to know how much your efforts meant to my friends and I. When Valkyria Chronicles came out I picked up a copy and sat with my friends. We really loved every minute of it. (Some of my friends even cried at the death of Isara. We were really touched.) When i looked to see how long we played today across all of our profiles we have played nearly 500 hours of the first game (imagine how many total hours of VC were played by everyone who bought a copy thousands of hours of hours spent enjoying your work) and we can’t wait for the next 500 with this new installment.
Thank you,

I honestly picked up Valkyria Chronicles on a whim from a passing suggestion of a friend when I got my PS3 only in February. I started playing and just fell in love with it. I love its story and the points it brings up about war. It was extremely touching, especially specific parts with Isara and Rosie and Alicia and Welkin and even Selvaria. When I heard about a sequel, and was able to play the Japanese demo, I immediately loved the controls, and have no worries about the game and am now waiting for it to arrive. I’m really excited about the game, as Valkyria Chronicles is one of the only games that I’ve played to do absolutely everything; I got the highest rank on all the missions, maxed out the levels, got all the medals, beat all the DLC, even the Expert missions. The game blew me away, and is now my favorite game of all time, something that’s only changed twice in my life. So I’m excited about Valkyria Chronicles 2, and thank you all so much for a wonderful set of games.

Kudos to the VC dev team for creating an incredibly immersive group of games. I now know what will be occupying quite a few hours of my free time (and several hours from doing what I should be doing, but it’s so fun I cannot resist!) $40…well spent, well spent indeed.
There’s so much I can and want to say, but my fingers and mind just don’t want to cooperate at the moment, so I’ll say this instead:
Thanks, guys, and I wish you the best of luck in future endeavors.

Valkyria Chronicles is one of the best games I’ve ever played! I totally didn’t think it needed a sequel because I thought it was great as a standalone title, but I’ll take what I can get I suppose.
I totally loved the game when I played it. So so much. The only thing that would have made it even more awesome would be Sakura Taisen cameos, but yeah that’s just my wishful thinking.
I truly, truly want to thank you for the series! As it is great, and I do look forward to more!

To the Developers of Valkyria Chronicles,
I cannot thank you enough for developing such a wonderful and exciting game for the PS3 and PSP. I remember when I first picked up Valkyria Chronicles I, I thought it looked interesting because of the art and new battle system I have never heard of before. Then I started to play and was immediately hooked, not only by the well made cell-shaded characters and entertaining battle system, but by the storyline as well. It moved me to tears when a tragic event happened to the ragtag bunch named Squad 7. In the end, I couldn’t believe it was over, such a well-thought out game that not only provided me with much enjoyment, but with a feeling that I couldn’t wait for the next one to come out. Now Valkyria Chronicles II is here and I can’t thank you all enough for your hard work and dedication to a game that had a humble beginning which turned it into one of SEGA’s most well-known games. Please keep up the good work and thank you once again, for making the best JRPGs I have ever played on Sony’s consoles.

Like to thank you guys for this excellent series. Before VC came out, I was not paying much attention to Japanese games. However playing this game and loving how the gameplay struck a fine balance between strategy, RPG, and even third person shooter and the game’s graphics being something that is truly unique, it became clear to me that you guys really know how to make a game. I look forward to playing VC2 and expect to be amazed by how much the great VC gameplay you managed to cram into the PSP.
Cheers,

Dear VC Devs,
I would simply like to thank you for creating one (and now two!) of the most unique RPG systems out there. As a longtime RPG and SRPG veteran, I can say with no exaggeration that Valkyria Chronicles has the most engrossing, entertaining, and interesting gameplay system I have ever played. In addition, the canvas art style is absolutely beautiful, and its use of bright colors is a refreshing change from the gritty brown realism that is becoming increasingly common in many genres.
Despite this art style, the game also manages to avoid portraying war as “cute,” which is quite the feat. I attribute this effect to the quality of the story and the overall writing. The emotional force and tragedy that warfare brings was fully evident in many of the characters and their development; I was in particular touched by Isara and the way Rosie changed over the course of the game through her influence; the subplot between Largo and Captain Varrot was also very well handled. All of the squad members were quite well developed, even though the story focused on the core group; it was easy to learn a lot about each character’s personality just from their quotes in battle, and when that wasn’t enough, it was time for a trip over to the personnel tab. The development even extended to the enemies! This was one of the things about the game that impressed me most: the depth of the humanization of your enemy. Yes, you still have to kill them, but eventually you start to feel a little sad for them every time you pull the trigger (except, perhaps, on the enemy lancers, whose aim is frustratingly good sometimes. Where can my soldiers get that kind of training?). The game’s ability to apply this to the generic soldiers as opposed to restricting it to the enemy leaders is what truly sets VC apart from other RPGs.
I could go on and on about every little detail that I loved in the original Valkyria Chronicles. The English voice acting was quite good (and notably featured one of my favorite voice actresses for bonus points). The use of the book as a framing device was well done, and contributed a strong thread of continuity between each event, cutscene, and operation (while the chapter terminology is often used by other games, it is usually without an explanation as to why, which always struck me as a little odd).
The continued support of the game (first via DLC, and now via the sequel) indicates a true commitment on the developers’ part to bringing us the customers a truly amazing gaming experience, and for that I can only say thank you. It has become one of my all-time favorite games in a remarkably short period of time, and I have little doubt that the sequel will do the same in short order. I will continue to support Valkyria Chronicles, and I sincerely hope that perhaps a third game will be in the cards in the future.
Again, thank you for creating such a beautiful game.

Thank you so much for bringing this series over to US. Its my favorite ps3 game, and one that i constantly try to convince others to play. The change from old rts games to this newer style was incredible. The characters and artwork for the game was great too. As I played the game even more, I became really attached the characters and i was really sad when Isara had to die. This is one Series I am more than willing to support with my money whether it be DLC like the EDY one or buying VCII, which i did.
From the bottom of my heart I thank you so much for bring Valkyria chronicles to the US, and I hope there will be more of this Series to come. I will continue to try and put the word out so that everyone can play these games.

Before I begin, I’d like to thank Sega, and especially Sega of America for taking this financial and creative risk.
To the development team,
Hello everyone! I hope that you all now have the time, since you’ve just shipped to read and reply to the American Valkyria community. As an aspiring game developer and digital storyteller, this is one of the Valkyria Chronicles is one of the games that I point to in regards to the progression of Japanese storytelling. The story is beautifully minimalist, and told in a way that only masters of a medium could.
Every character is also wholly unique, meaning some like or dislike other units. people, or even have allergies in certain climates. This means you’ll want to build a team that you like, and will work well together.
On top of all of that, if you lose one of your squad members in the line of duty, there’s no way of getting them back. Death is a very real thing, and you’ll want to play that way.
I personally had no idea that … there was no way of getting my fallen teammates back until one of them was put down by a machine gunner in an alley. The character had some things to say, and then faded to “Vyse has died in the line of duty”. That’s not something that I am used to coming across in games. And I’ve come close to having some of my squad members die, but I told myself that I wouldn’t lose another.
Every single character on your roster has a unique voice, personality, and a way that they carry themselves. This lets you choose the types of people, and personalities you can take on your missions.
Even if most of the characters you can control on the field have no direct part in the story-line, I found that my favorite character in the game was just a regular soldier that I found myself using on every mission.
Wendy, a 19 year old girl who enlisted after she lost her town to the “Empire” (the game’s invading force). She also blew up her house one time on accident. She loves bombs. There’s also rumor amongst the other characters that she keeps a bomb under her hat. Matter of fact, I was using her on a mission, and she was the only one who had made it to an enemy outpost to capture it. She only had one grenade and half a clip… she took out seven snipers and a shocktrooper, then captured the base.
I usually hold games, films and books that evoke an emotion response from me in very high regard, as I’m usually not one to be gotten to.
Valkyria’s art, and the way it tells the story is both cinematic, and beautiful. Sega’s “Canvas” engine, and the way the characters are rendered reminded me very much of Studio Ghibli, and Hayao Miyazaki’s work.
Valkyria Team, I love you, keep doing what you do, and I hope next time you’ll handle some of the more touching issues such as internment camps with no fear of offending anyone.
This is the time for madness.
Go all out Valkyria Team! I know you can!

I’d say there’s quite a bit of praise for the Japanese development team already, so here’s to the English localization team. Sorry that it’s not much. I’m not too good with words:
It’s easy to tell from the start that this game was localized with love. Everything from the dialogue to the voice acting is amazing so far. You guys even changed things that probably wouldn’t have resonated well with English-speaking fans, such as changing Jarde’s chirps from a high-pitched fake one to a real bird’s call.
I can’t wait to finish Valkyria Chronicles II once again (I already finished my Japanese copy a long time ago, and I still kept playing the game ’til the day our English version came out).
Oh, and please don’t give the artbook to me if I happen to win. I already have that amazing artbook already anyway. I’m sure another fan would appreciate it.

Never has a game made me care so much about every charectar and feel actually hurt if (God Forbid) one of the Squad falls, while at the same time feeling so rewarded when the tactics all pay off for a swift and decisive victory.
The stunning visuals and encapsulating story made VC1 one of the best games I have ever played (over and over again) and I am sure the second will not disappoint.

Thank you, Sega WOW, for continuing to deliver on a truly unique and brilliant franchise.
Its really one of the few games that you can look to and say “hey, you should play this; everyone should give it a try.”
For some people, the demo for the first game did nothing for them, but for me, it sang a song that interwove everything that I loved about videogames. From the water color design and Sakimoto-san’s beautiful score, to the refreshing strategy RPG mechanics on a home console. I bought the game immediately, and was rewarded with so much more.
I look forward to digging myself deeply into Valkyria Chronicles II, and to live for a while within this side of the story. My love for Valkyria Chronicles as a blossoming franchise grows, and hope to see the next installment return to the Playstation 3.

I was first drawn to VC1 because of its unique art style and story setting. The characters, the story pacing, the level designs, the battle system and strategy elements all made the VC world an enjoyable world to visit again and again.
I’m quite happy that we get to return and explore again, with a new set of characters and a set of challenges to overcome. As people have expressed above, the passion and spirit of the teams that have had the fortune to work on these projects truly comes out in these releases. I can’t wait to see the next installment!

Not only does it perfectly combine real-time and turn-based strategy to create a balanced pace that’s slow enough to allow for careful planning, but fast enough to stay exciting, but it’s also hands down the most gorgeous animation in a game.
There’s no possible way to truly put in words how thankful I am to the developers for obviously putting so much love and care into the series and for bringing us more VC goodness.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said?
What you guys created, Valkyria Chronicles, was a unique game and still unique right now. I don’t know of any other games that can mix Strategy/RPG/3rd person shooting so well like you guys have. Perhaps I did play games that had a similar idea as VC, but it just didn’t hit me. What makes it help is the story you guys created. There was great character development and story along with the mechanics. Of course, can’t forget this, loved the water canvas style animation.
All I can really say is thank you for creating such an awesome unique game. One of the few types of games that I’m willing to shell out the full $60 price for.
Like others, I will be waiting for VC 3 to come out. Even if you don’t have plans yet, I will be waiting. Fighting!

Thank you for putting out such inventive, innovative titles that make me proud to be a Sega fan, and keeping me entertained with one of my favorite games of all-time and another that is sure to be judging from the news and reviews I have seen about it. Keep up the great work and please continue to use your imaginations and create these wonderful games for all the gamers around the world.

I’m at a loss for words when it comes to describing how much appreciation I have towards the creative bunch over at Sega Japan. Revolutionary gameplay, great story, unique watercolor-style, earns a place as one of the most memorable IPs of this generation.
Extending this appreciation to the NA localization team, you’re the ones that have opened the world of VC to the West. Without your commitment, the Western fanbase wouldn’t have grown this far.
Having already owned the Japanese copy of VC2, I’m really excited to be going to play the English version (playing it all over again!) with the full understanding of the story and gameplay systems.
Cheers to the VC dev team and NA localization team, and I’ll be waiting for that Sep 16 “Top Secret” reveal.
Godspeed on the development of the next installation in the series…

VC team: thanks for making a sequel to this awesome game! I just hope the Japanese bonuses like Selvaria are available to us in the United States. I can’t imagine how difficult it was to keep all that made the first game so great onto something as tiny as a UMD, and I hope the game does well enough to reward all your hard work, as well as encourage a sequel on the PS3.

Dear VC Team:
Thanks very much for making a sequel to one of my favorite games! I absolutely loved VC1 and all of its charm. I haven’t played an TBS game as intense and fun as this since Final Fantasy Tactics for PS1. VC literally had me quivering at the edge of my seat most of the time, especially Chapter 7!
This game deserves so much more attention than it has already gained. Everyone should play it!
I’m very happy that a sequel was released by you guys, regardless of what system it’s on. It’s the gameplay that counts!
As a game developer myself, I completely understand and appreciate all the hard work that has gone into VC2, and wish you all the best in the future of VC!
All Hail Gallia!!

Valkyria is definitely the best game on the PS3. Valkyria has become a game that I have become very personally attached to. It is my favorite game of all time in my 15 years of gaming. I wished that VC2 would have been on the PS3 but maybe it can get more exposure on the PSP and allow gamers to become more aware of this masterpiece. I and definitely waiting for 9/16.

Valkyria Chronicles. The game that came out of nowhere to steal everyone’s hearts. Not least my own. You know, I look back on my first playthrough (you always remember your first time) and try and pin point my favourite moments. And I couldn’t do it. Each moment just stands out of its own accord.
Like meeting Jann Walker… unforgetable. Learning about his life and his loves. And then, when he fell to Selvaria in the Desert, along with Walter Nash… heartbreaking.
Or another favourite, where the game just came alive infront of me. Karl Landzart, a quiet man who would be spooked at his own shadow. Fighting to liberate his home town of Fouzen, he led a solo charge across an exposed bridge to allow the Edelweiss to progress past the minefield. Constantly dodging bullets and mines, clearing baracade after baricade and finally activating the elevator to reunite the squad, before being overcome by exhaustion and his wounds, forcing an evacuation. His actions were not forgotten that day. Not least by those seeking to join the Militia from Fouzen, namely a certain Darcsen called Lynn. She immedietely earned her place in my squad and in my heart.
Then there was that moment on Marberry Beach. I remember mouthing “no” as that fatal round caused so much pain and anguish. It also spurned me on, forcing me to defeat the Empire with every fibre of my being.
And on the other side of the coin was when the innevitable happened against the backdrop of the Marmota. It was so formulaic, we all knew it was coming… but even I was blindsided when Welkin upped a standard confession to a full blown proposal. And you know they will live happily ever after. Also formulaic. But who says formulaic is bad?
It all came to a fitting conclusion with the frenetic battle atop the Marmota. I missed the point that the towers were each vulnerable to a weapon: I thought they all had to be treated as Armoured Targets. It makes for one awsome handicap… I had the Edelweiss driven as far foward as possible to bring the shot to the far tower in range. Yoko and Largo were on opposite platforms taking out the two towers near to them… but even better was the fact I had Karl as the almighty Engineer, running between the two platforms risking everything just to keep his comrades supplied and able to fight. It was an overwhelming battle… but even that was toped by the fantastic conclusion and powerful conclusion.
This game is incredible. What more can be said? It serves as proof to my theory that games are the ultimate story telling medium. Sure, you feel something for the characters in a book that you read, but thats nothing compared to actually serving with them in the treches of Nagiar. A drama on TV might enthral you with their acting, but they are merely following a script. In a game such as this, you write the script. Congratulations to all those involved in the making of this epic piece of work. I almost don’t want to see the sequel: how can you possibly improve on what has gone before? But I am willing to place my trust in you once more as I once again prepare to jump head first in the enchanting world of Gallia.
With Thanks

Dear Devs,
I hope you understand just how dedicated your fanbase is. I’ve never known of any game that has this devoted of a following. The first game is truly one of the most amazing games ever created and the second is fantastic as well from what I’ve played. And it looks as though a third might be coming? Could you do your incredibly loving fanbase a favor and make it a PS3 game? : )
Also, I thought you should know that Isara Gunther is one of my all time favorite characters and I was so devastated at what happened to her. It was truly one of the most shocking things I’ve ever experienced.

Valkyria Chronicles was about 90% of the reason I bought the PS3. My friend purchased the game for his while I just ignored the PS3 all together. “Why would I spend $400+ on a single system” I thought. But then one day I went over to his house and he showed me Valkyria Chronicles. It was still sealed, so even he had not played it yet. He opened it up and threw the game in, then passed me the controller as he had to finish preparing for his party. The next thing I knew, I had beaten the first four levels and at least three other people had arrived. I looked at my friend and could only say, “well it’s official… I have to get this game”. So I waited a couple weeks and then the PS3 was on sale. I immediately went to Best Buy and bought both the system and Valkyria Chronicles. The whole time I played it, I kept telling my other friends about it. Since then, I’ve gotten two more friends to buy Valkyria Chronicles. One of those friends has gotten two of his friends to buy it as well. To make things better, my sister will buy it as soon as she can find a copy (you know a games good when it’s near impossible to find). It just so happens that both of these friends will be purchasing Valkyria Chronicles 2 (one already has it and the other is getting it soon). I myself am getting the game today as EB Games didn’t receive it until yesterday.
So the series means more to me than just that of a game. It also brought me and my friends closer together. We have shared in all sorts of stories of how we did this or that in the game, many of them about the craziness of EX Hard Mode. So thank you SEGA, my friends and I are grateful for you giving us this experience. It only gets better now that we can play co-op with each other.

To me, Valkyria Chronicles was a return to something that many people seem to think Sega started lacking, great games. Its hard to argue, as its all opinion, but everyone I know agrees that this is truly one of the best series yet from Sega these past few years.
Valkyria Chronicles 1 could very well be art, as the art was a beautiful mix, combining the easily likable style of anime with the soft, expressive tones of water-color painting. The gameplay was satisfying, and though hard it never annoyed me. Its with great pleasure that I can claim it as the best game I have for the PS3, rivaling the likes of Demons Souls and Metal Gear.
And from what I’ve played, Valk 2 is shaping up to match its predecessor. So to the dev team, you have my thanks for making one of the best games in the Strategy RPG genre! And I hope that Valkyria 2 sells more than enough so we can again see the full power of the Canvas engine on display with the PS3, as nothing beats the crisp, detailed imagery it was capable of.

Firstly, thank you so much for this awesome series on Valkyria Chronicles II!
This is going to be a long message but there is just too much to say about Valkyria Chronicles.
I am a diehard RPG fan and have spent thousands of hours playing numerous games. Very few games have had the impact that Valkyria Chronicles did.
I still remember the day I purchased VC, I actually had to ask the store if they had the game because it wasn’t on the shelves yet. Fortunately they did, and that night as soon as I got home from work I put it in my PS3. I had no idea that VC would take over my life for over two months!
The first thing I noticed was how gorgeous the game was, I had never seen anything like it and still haven’t two years on. Nothing compares to the visual style of VC! The art team are very talented people, the graphics are stunning.
As I progressed further into the game I became more addicted. The gameplay was unique and the battle system unlike anything else. Although certain chapters were significantly more difficult than others, the challenge of trying to figure out how to succeed with an A rank (and often failing and retrying) was definitely worth it
The soundtrack for VC is by far one of the best in any game. I had to import it to listen to on my ipod while I was at work and couldn’t play
The music is so well suited to the game and relevant to each scene.
Finally, I have to get to the best part of VC – the story. There are a few games that have made me cry in the past few years (e.g. MGS4, Yakuza 3 and Lost Odyssey) but no game had been so compelling and interesting that it has had the emotional impact on me that VC has.
There were parts of VC that made me laugh (such as Largo with his vegetables) and times when it made me wish flying pigs were real (I do have the Hans plush toy though
) but what affected me most was that VC actually made me feel for the characters. The story is so deep and the character development was done so well. The first time (out of many) that I cried was in chapter eight in the cabin
It affected me far more than I thought a game ever could.
I guess what I want to say is, I am glad Sega took the risk on a new IP and in all my years of gaming I have never looked forward to a game as much as VCII. Thank you to everyone on the development team and anyone involved with making VC and VCII happen!
Even though there is that goal of making big money on a title, please know that even if the sales for a game aren’t as huge as they should be, the impact it can make on the people that do buy it does make it all worth it even if you don’t know it.

I know this is late, but I really do hope you guys at SoA send what we say to them. They’ve done something new with a seemingly dying genre of games. They’ve freshened up the SRPG, given us something new, something unique. I for one am really glad. It has been on of the greatest games I’ve played this generation. Here’s hoping for the success of Valkyria Chronicles 2! So we can get a third one to buy and continue on with this great franchise.
Thank you VC devs, thank you for your hard work for creating such a great game.

I’ve done my part and got the game. I also told friends and family about the series. Now it’s your turn Sega! Please have Jane Turner as a downloadable character! It was sad enough there was no DLC for her in the first game, and that… Edy (read:Useless)… got a whole detachment, but if she’s not in the second game at all, I’ll just be very disallusioned.
Other than the severe lack of Jane, though, the game is pretty fun and definitely lives up to the Valkyria Chronicles name. Thank you Sega!

Dear Sega,
Thank you very much!
Valkyria Chronicles is a masterpiece in it’s own right. If a game made me laugh, cry, feel pity, angry, and frustrated all in one sitting while making the characters and story the most vibrant and animated I’ve seen in any game, then it earned the spot of “Game of the Year” and “Best PS3 Game.”
The story moved me, the art made me want to see more, and the action made my thumbs and heart run a marathon. And from what I can see from the few minutes that I played VC II, it’s shaping up to be a true bearer to it’s predecessor.
Thanks again Sega for enlisting us again into the Gallian army. We will make you proud, study hard, and serve our country well.

Back when I bought the original, I bought because it looked so different from the other PS3 games out there. (Hardly any good RPGs on PS3) WOW! Was I ever impressed. I loved how everything looked like artwork, it was incredible. The battles were amazing and I don’t like tactic RPGs but the strategy involved in the battles was incredible. Trying to complete the battle in as few rounds as possible presented a new challenge. Chapter 7 took forever to beat and did it ever feel good to do it. Loved the DLC for the game as well.
VLC2 love it so far!! I can’t believe it is on PSP looking and playing this incredible. I was disappointed that it wasn’t on PS3 but then I played the demo on my PSP and I was blown away. One of the hardest things I found about VC was picking your squad. You get attached to the characters and then new ones come to the squad barracks. I hated to kick some out to let new ones join the squad. Guess I just got so attached to them. Their personalities are just great. No clones here!!
You guys did such a great job on the game. I hope there will be even more DLC for this game. Defiantly hoping for VC3. Thank you for all your hard work!!

To the incredible development team,
I can safely say that Valkyria Chronicles has been one of the greatest games I’ve ever had the joy of playing. While there are many games out there that simply present the antagonists as pure incarnations of evil, you designed a game that not only had highly entertaining gameplay, but showed both sides of the story. It’s an incredible experience as a player to take a step back and realize that they can’t help but sympathize with the opposition.
It was such a disappointment when the first game’s credits rolled, but at the same time, incredibly satisfying. After all, life moves on, and Squad 7 had to leave the nest sooner or later. But now, there’s a new squad to raise! I think it’s sufficient to say that these two games will keep most Valkyria Chronicle fans occupied for a long time.
Again, thanks for all your hard work! We’ll take good care of the Gallia you’ve entrusted us with.
Sincerely,
Alex

Valkyria Chronicles was my sole reason for purchasing a PS3. After experiencing Skies of Arcadia on Dreamcast (which became my favorite game of all-time), I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to play Valkyria Chronicles. Now Valkyria Chronicles 2 has been released and I find myself in a similar position.
I’ll invest in whatever hardware is required to play games from this development team; the happiness and contentment I feel after completing a game like Valkyria Chronicles far outweighs the investment and that cannot be said of just any game.

Valkyria Chronicles II felt like getting a piece of childhood back and I honestly can’t put a price on that. I’m playing Valkyria Chronicles as this very moment, and it’s very easily my game of the year so far. Putting out a sequel to my favorite PS3 game meant huge expectations from me, and you’ve exceeded them in all ways possible. I love Valkyria Chronicles II.

Thank you,
Aside from that I love the style of play, the multiplayer options look really cool and I can’t wait to start getting friends to join me with them. I also like all the downloadable content, and hope to see more.
Also, if you are familiar with a game called Necromunda, is a board game put out by games workshop, I think that it ould also be a very good candidate for using this system. It would be entirely different than Valkyria, but also rather good I think.
