Sonic 4 Speed Run – Justin Towell on Splash Hill Zone Act IWaiting for Sonic 4 on the PS3 or Xbox? Here’s a little something to help pass the time! (Or at least 40.79 seconds of it.) The same guy who gave Sonic 4 a 9.0 on GamesRadar is back to prove that he’s got some serious skills to back up his words. Check out what might just be the most impressive run of Splash Hill Act 1 that we’ve ever seen!
Mr. Towell – hats off to you, sir. You prove that the fastest times will be accomplished by skill, memorization, and knowing when to use the homing attack and when to go classic style – the reverse classic attack near the end was a brilliant move. In other news, another great review for Sonic 4 came in today – Eurogamer has given the game a 9/10 to add to the list, and you can find their review here! What do you guys think of the speed run and the latest review? (P.S. – we’re sending this over to the Japanese team!)

Wow. Good on him.
I’ve never really been into the whole time aspect of the games but judging from what I’ve seen so far, I’m going to try achieve some good time scores myself this time round.
*Is sitting here VERY anxiously for Sonic 4 as it has turned 13th October here and I was hoping LIVE would have updated midnight but to no avail. D=*

Dude, I’m not gonna lie, I loved Sonic riders, I have Sonic 4 and I think 4 is better.
Sonic riders ZG was a huge letdown. And now that I’ve played both versions of Sonic unleashed. I realize that the riders series sucked compared to SA1, SA2, SH, and SU, accept it dude, riders was BORING! It was sloppy, repetitive, and the voices made my ears bleed. Sorry dude, I’ll have to stick with what I have….
sonic Riders 1: Sucked
Sonic Riders 2: Sucked worse!

Dear sonic fans and friends,
Is this where we post the suggestion and review for the game? Anyway, I’ve played the game and its awesome by the way. Though, I am still having some problems adjusting to some new elements. I am only after Splash Hill and only got one emerald thus far
work comes first I guest
- The Uncurling -
Well, those who have played it will know that sonic will uncurl after a ramp to ready for his homing attack. I however, have been hit multiple times by enemies this way. I think that player should be the one chosing whether he/she wants sonic to uncurl or not. There should be a button (triangle preferably) to press, or if no button pressed, sonic would still go on his curling state.
- The momentum -
For me, sonic is all about momentum, I always got stuck in loop the loop, whereas I would just press down (like the old times) after catching some speed, but to my surprise, although sonic is still curling, the speed is not there, not enuf momentum to propel him forward. I did not feel like in the genesis era, instead, it felt more like sonic rush era. I don’t know about anyone else, but its not as entertaining for me
- The music -
The music is Super! i love it so much, and it kept playing in my mind over and over, even the special stage’s music is cool.
- The special stage -
I truly love the special stage, it almost make me sweat, it almost felt like the special stage was talking to me, and the dialogues where “round and round it goes, where it stops, nobody knows” it almost felt like an adventure all by itself. Although not 3d like in sonic 3 & K, I want to be in this zone all day long if not because of the time limit.
- The Style -
For now, for me, it felt like Sonic 1, with you and sonic, getting back together, with no other characters (except the dr) and I dream that SEGA would bring back style, introduce a new character in the next episode, and expanding the sonic 4 universe, just like what they did for the Sonic Genesis era. For know, I’m having a great time with my best buddy (sonic), seeing the TRUE him after all this while, cherishing it, and I’m also introducing him to my daughter, so that she could take the essence of sonic, to think on your feet, flow gracefully like the wind, and make the best choice in the best time.
I truly thank you Sega, for 12-October-2010 has been one of the greatest day of my life.
your fan

I really miss the “continuous speed”. neobita (at the comments) said it all.
But I can get used to it (or maybe in the next episode it will be there…).
Well… Sonic is my favorite game, and this sequel is just amazing. Congratulations, Sega! 10/10! I can’t stop playing it!
Can’t wait for the next episode! =)

Hey Sega! I purchased Sonic 4 for PSN and I really love this game. I know there has been certain mechanics changes from the previous installments, and generally they work well with this new game. I do have a couple suggestions I believe would make future installments shine even better:
-Sonic’s stop-full speed momentum. His beginning pace is not as quick as it was in previous installments. I checked after I had played Sonic 4 just to make sure it wasn’t just me thinking wild things. I find myself using the forward homing attack to start off the pace instead, but would prefer if his start speed was quickened a little.
-In air sluggish maneuverability. When you jump up, or hit a bouncer, steering left or right is not quite as quick as it was in previous installments. Again, its seems his side to side momentum has slowed down a bit, even in air. I encountered some spots where I could have veered over spiked enemies but instead couldn’t make it. Also, bouncing in the Casino zones weren’t as controllable because of this. Again, I went back to check and in previous installments, Sonic was a bit more maneuverable.
The in air uncurling. Like above posters, it was a little odd that Sonic behaved like this, but I eventually learned from it and it became less of a nuance. This aspect is the least of my worries.
Sega/Sonic Team, DIMPS, I’ve seen many more people raise the issues I have raised, and would like for you to look into them for future installments. Thank you.

I actually had no issues with the uncurling. Homing pretty much had me covered. I never really got hit in mid-air because of the uncurl.

Wow, even with this speedrun, the level still takes a longer time to finish then finishing that look-a-like level in Sonic 2. Well done! This just confirms that this ‘episode’ is just a full game on it’s own!!!!

For everyone moaning about aspects of this like momentum etc bottom line Sega have probably made one of the best releases of the next generation gaming era no werwolf’s, no feeling like the computer is doing everything for you, no gay sonic voices, no dumb other characters expect for the original few only Shadow do I leave out. Full control, wicked Graphic’s and original levels with a few twists Sonic back in style full stop!

The game looks amazing. I’ve only played the demo, I plan on buying it later, but as far as physic problems I’m concerned:
-Uncurling: When you spindash off slopes. When you jump between vines.
-Homing Attack: It’s not that bad, but can you guys put insta shield in another button? Also, please get rid of the RED TARGETS or at least make an option to turn them off.
-When you air dash, if you move into an enemy, you get hurt, even though Sonic is spinning.
-Momentum should increase every time Sonic rolls/runs down a slope.
-Rebounding. Sonic should acquire the same height after landing on a badnik if you hold jump.
That’s it. The game looks really good, hope you guys consider this for Episode 2 changes, and I know I’ll buy many copies of it. Heck I might even share with some friends that aren’t much into Sonic.

People, especially you, SEGA, read what Ecchi said on comment no. 29. It sums up exactly what should be corrected for the next Sonic 4 Episode.
… And, SEGA? Change how Sonic’s running…. its unbearable…. he takes SO much time to build some speed!!
Oh, and don’t forget people, I’m saying this because I LOVE Sonic. I want it to be as good as it can/should be.

This is a really good game.
Sega, in the next episode when Metal Sonic is in it, before you get too far, think. What have you done so far that has made your games bad? Were-wolfs, swords, hover-boards, etc.
Also, think of the old Genesis’ Sonic games, that made history. A lot of people say that Sonic CD was the best Sonic game, EVER. Can you do that again? Without putting in characters like Amy Rose or Tails that WERE in it?
Sonic CD was where Metal Sonic came from, and that game was all about speed, and time travel; at least the game play. And from the secret ending of Sonic 4, I’m guessing he will take a HUGE part in Episode 2.
If you can take the positive side of Episode 1, and mix it with time travel (which means well made versions of past, present and future) and Metal Sonic (which means a good model: no corny voice actors or cut-scenes; and nothing, besides graphics, that the Genesis couldn’t make or do), you’ve got a second episode on your hands.
I know I make a good point; I know I’m just some other Sonic nerd that has “ideas,” but if you read this, seriously think about what you’ve gotten yourself into. I hope this helped…

First of all my official score: 9/10
PROS:
Classic sonic done very well.
Music
Super Sonic in stages (nice job not leaking this. it was an awesome suprise)
Eggwalker boss was amazing.
Homing attack implemented VERY well.
Difficulty curve
Gimmicks did not ruin game play. Torch level VERY well done as was the special stages.
Recycled sound effects were very well placed. Got to hear some that were pretty rare in the old games.
CONS:
Physics awkward at times, loss of momentum and rolling speed.
Uncurling is fail
Regular boss music (before he powers up) and special stage music.
His name is Robotnick dammmit.
Amazing job, I’m very excited that your reviews have been so positive. Now when do we get episode 2? soon i hope.

Wasn’t feelin it with this one. Just felt too easy; And before anyone mentions leaderboards… last I checked, Sonic games were more than just score attack based. Unless you can fix the difficulty rate in the next episodes (and I’m not talking about the special stages or the final boss), then I’m afraid 15 dollars is all you’ll get from me.

Sega, hear me please…
I’ve never gotten the chance to play Sonic the Hedgehog 4, but from the looks of it, it looks amazing.. I want to play it, but unfortunately I don’t have access to play it on any other system. If possible could you make it for the upcoming 3DS handheld? If so please message me on my e-mail.
Another request I’d like to make before you start on Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode II, Can you please make a forum directly related to the game in regards to Megaman Legends 3 Dev-Room: http://www.capcom-unity.com/devroom/go/forum/view/114725/198297/general_discussion
Please Sega please.. Try to follow Capcom’s example by making a thread devoted to the development of the game, and where Sonic fans can discuss and share ideas to create the game we want. That way, things will be organized and viewed properly by votes and such, and fans won’t be annoyingly repeating What they have said. I’m a old Fan who really likes the Sonic games and I want to contribute my ideas and help the future of Sonic The Hedgehog, and re-live my dream of playing the best Sonic games again.
I was unsatisfied with some few things in the game. Like the fact with the un-curling, or Sonic, the character himself. Please make a Forum, a development room for fans, and discuss with us what could be in the game! I want Sonic 4 to have as much enthusiasm as the Development and Game Megaman Legends 3.
