I am SO with that guy about the Sonic Adventure 3 thing. SA2:Battle was my favorite Sonic Game. I really do miss my chao lol. Of all the new things you’ve brought, and of the old things you’ve kept, I think Chao should make a reappearance as more than a simple cameo.

HOWEVER, if this isn’t already in the planning stages, I do not want you to make a game in a hurry just to release it for the 20th Anniversary, it will be something no one will be happy with.

Please, make Sonic Adventure 3!
You made good games for the retro fans, you made good games for the Unlesahed fans, and you made nothing good for the Adventure fans since 2001! Sonic Next-Gen was poorly developed and besides it’s not an Adventure game, it just have some similiar elements. We’re waiting for ten years. Those years were long, very very long. But we still keep the hope. The hope for SA3.
Please remember. Remember the times when Sonic wasn’t just a game for kids. Remember the times when he had the strong plot, the serious dialogs, the deep atmosphere. When he had many characters with their own stories, the hard rocking soundtrack, the large amazing unique levels. And when he had the pure speed, not because the boost button was invented, but because of the energy spirit, spindash and soul.

Guys guys… Sonic Unleashed was the spiritual successor to the Adventure series. That’s why it’s called ‘Sonic World Adventure’ in Japan.

I wouldn’t mind a Sonic Adventure 3. While I shouldn’t get my hopes up, I did rather like the Adventure games, since they had interesting stories, gameplay variety, and side-characters that didn’t totally suck.

If we can’t get a Sonic Adventure 3, then you should at least bring E-102 “Gamma” back into the series. He had an interesting story behind him, and ever since Sonic Battle on the GBA, I’ve been anticipating his next appearance.

Also, you should get rid of Big, making everyone happy.

Sonic Adventure 3 would be awesome! But id rather have an old version game that is 2D with the old sonic. something like Sonic 1 or 2. The old sonic is the best, he never gets old, when the new 3D and Sonic X came out, I was extremely bummed with how different he looked. Many of the older fans(since 1991) might like that too because that was the original, loved sonic. :~D

WOW…20 years already? seems like only yesterday that i was begging my parents for a dreamcast for the sonic adventure games lol congrats Sega & Sonic!!! i too would like to see a sonic adventure 3, same high speed gameplay like “Colors” but still with that “Adventure” style lol i would love to see a small amount of playable characters like Blaze & Silver.

Sega, it’s been an awesome time watching Sonic move through the years like a book. 20 years already and Sonic’s still running faster than ever!
I’m not asking for anything at all, I just want to see what you have in store for the blue hedgehog’s big double decade!
Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colors snd Sonic Adventure 2 battle were beautifully rendered games, and Sonic’s best in my opinion, but I will always be a fan, no matter which way he turns!

Aww YEAH! This is happenin’! I sooo can’t wait to see the big announcements, especially because I’m given to understand that every 5 years, Sonic Team creates a new hedgehog character. Sonic was the first in 1991, Amy was the second in 1995, Shadow was the third in 2001, and Silver was the fourth in 2006. Who will join Sonic and his friends this year? I dont hope or See a SA3 coming out but with all the Fan Mail SEGA gets from little 13 year olds across the webs I think SEGA may start listening to this new Audience thats starting to grow up with the franchise. Just make it something good and fix the controls for Sonic 4 episode II, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) was Sonic Adventure 3 it only sucked because it was rushed. It is full of glitches. If you can look past the almost unplayable parts (occasionally pop up and any part with a snowboard, sandboard, etc.board, unforgiving “speed” sections with Sonic) there is actually a good game under all of that. If it wasn’t rushed for the 15th anniversary it would have been great. I would like this not to rushed to meet the anniversary. Any other complaints about this game come from people that don’t like Sonic Adventure 1 & 2.

Yeah, you guys need to be quiet about Sonic Adventure 3. It’s just a friggin’ title. Sonic 06 and Unleashed could both be seen as Sonic Adventure 3 if you look at the gameplay.

Sonic colors was a good turning point for sonic games, cause the few before that were pretty naff.
I miss the chao gardens! and actually being able to play as any other character apart from sonic! Knuckles’ and Rouge’s treasure hunting levels were THE BEST! BRING THEM BACK! + CHAO GARDENS TOO!

Ok screw SA3. It’s not coming. A game with either a 3-d or 2-d remake of the classics is coming. Mario and Sonic 3 is coming. And I think the other was Sonic 4 Episode 2. As much as I would ADORE SA3, I am sorry to say it is (probably, unless we get a suprise) not coming.

Wow 20 years of Sonic The Hedgehog. I got to say, I can’t wait to see what SEGA has in store for us this year in honor of Sonic. A lot of Sonic games throughout the years were good, but a few were… well, a bit weak. Still, I can’t say anything bad about Sonic cause he’s awesome and I hope he lives for many years more. I’m sorry, but all this bantering about Sonic Adventure 3 is a little ridiculous. How can anyone say that the newer games are not connected nor inspired by SA’s era. Seriously, there is a decent amount of platforming in unleashed’s Night time stages, and even in Colors, while very simplistic has some areas that require maneuvering and not just running in a line.

As for what I’d like for the 20th Anniversary, well I’m looking forward to finding some awesome Sonic Swag [Found a fleece blanket and wall clock at my work already, so that’s a good start] By the end of this year, I’m hoping for a Sonic themed room.

As for games, I’m just expecting the usual. Sonic 4 Ep2 [even if I have to wait until Q4 again] and some sort of console game. Be it Adventure 3, Colors 2, or something completely new, I look forward to another year with the blue blur.

I really like most of new games that been released so far (Unleashed “daytime”, Colors) but thing that I would REALLY like to see (And of course TO BUY) would be Sonic Adventure 3.
Don’t really care if it will come on Sonic’s anniversary of 20 or 25, it has to be released someday.

If there would be a Sonic Adventure style game with same storyline thing, same gameplay style with optional colors-like platformers (Or even Rivals one) i would totaly be happy and buy it.

Please Sega, I became a fan of Sonic with the Sonic Adventure series. I thought it was special because it had many unique characters with unique personalities and overall great action gameplay. Sonic unleashed however felt weird and a boring story. Sonic colors is too much comedy and silly. Like someone said, you made the retro fans happy, now plase make the adventure fans happy. That’s the formula I like, thats what made Sonic different from Mario, he had more personality and it had other characters that were dynamic and interesting. Now it feels like Sonic is trying too hard to be Mario. Just please make sonic adventure 3, im glad you make a riders 3 but now adventure. Or at the very least heroes 2.

Maybe in the middle of his story he explodes (Sonic Adventure 1) and eggman uses his parts to make a other robot(Everybody knows who:Omega!!)so half Gamma and half Omega! and there could have a option like sonic advance series that you can use a side character to folow you. ex: if your playing as sonic you can pick tails or knuckles.ex 2: if you are with Gamma your side character can be the E-100 series. etc.

way too manny people asking for sonic adventure 3….but ive got a better idea what about special 20th anniversry versions of the classic 3 titles from the MD/GENS and remake them with the same style levels just with the same speed, flow and HD glory as the unleashed day stages and release them on the same days as the originals where released (okay we will be waiting another 20 years for S4 but hey). it would bring the old games back into the spotlight and make them more playable for the latest gen of sonic fans.

sorry to say but unlike these people who ask for SA3 i go back even to the master system days and i can still remember not being able to beat the first lvl of labrynth zone or working out the hang glider on sky high zone on sonic 2 and getting teary eyed at hearing the beautiful bad ending music for that same game…

well no matter what you guys do make sure itts a big one that EVERYONE can enjoy.

sonic adventure gameplay or sonic colors gameplay, dont matter to me….. as long as tails and knuckles are playable than Im fine. As long as the levels have speed, exploration and platforming ….. (not divided like sonic adventure 2. Example, Sonic=Speed Tails=Platforming Knuckles=Exploration)

@Ren – No Sonic character is lame. And Sonic 06 isn’t a glimpse of what SA3 would be. It’s like saying Sonic Unleashed was a glimpse of Colors, and people should expect a were-hog like gameplay in Colors. Don’t compare A Sonic game that’s not part of the Adventure series with the Adventure series. Sonic Adventure was great, Sonic Adventure 2 was the BEST!

If Sega does make SA3 (which they probably will due to the pressure of insane fans), I just ask that you actually fix all the problems SA1 and SA2 have. Mostly the crappy filler stuff like treasure hunting, mech-shooting, fishing garbage that takes up over half the game.

The Adventure series has potential, but SA1/SA2 are far from perfect no matter what fanboys think. If you guys are just gonna repeat the same mistakes again like you did with Sonic ’06, then don’t even bother.

…I realize this post is probably useless as whatever game is being made is already well underway at this point, but oh well.

SEGA reps at a Spanish press event have apparently spilled the beans on Sonic the Hedgehog’s upcoming 20th anniversary game.

According to Spanish forum Sonic Reikai, officials at Gamefest 2010 revealed that the blue blur’s latest adventure will feature a recreation of many classic levels from Sonic the Hedgehog history – from the first Mega Drive title to Sonic Adventure 2 – using a mixture of 2D and 3D gameplay akin to that of Sonic Colours.

SEGA Spain officially released a “no comment” statement since the report.

Fellow fansite Sonic Paradise has pegged the birthday game for a release on Wii, DS, PSP and PlayStation 3, with an Xbox 360 version “still under negotiations.” It is believed that this game is linked to the leaked Sony document discovered last year.

There’s no doubt that SEGA will want to celebrate Sonic’s 20th. A 2D/3D compilation game though? If true, does this sound like the perfect birthday present for the little blue critter? Let us know in the forums.

Well, I hope the release of another game, something in which you can run at high speed. I love the way you can use the wisps, because they lead you to other places, that you cant normally reach, but the problem is that they slowed you every time you use one of them.
So, I want something like Sonic Unleashed, in which you can run, and keep using the sonic boost to reach the goal.

I agree with most of people. Want Sonic Adventure 3.
But!
Please, I beg you, make it at least a little bit different than games since Sonic Heroes. Make deep and non one-lined story and atmospheric sounding. Combine story and music qualities with graphic of past games, and give us the Perfect Game, like you can, but somewhy are not doing =(

I want to tell about characters a bit more. In next text, I’ll quote my friend’s words… well, with a bit of mine.
In past time, I’m sorry for saying that, your characters stopped improving AND began to degradate. New sides of them, of their souls stopped to appear, the good sides began to fade. F.e., Tails in SA and SA 2 showed himself as independent and brave person, when in past time he is just a clever sidekick.
Or Knuckles. Treasure hunter, Guardian of Master Emerald, clever and noble warrior, is now like second Sonic’s sidecick, which hits before thinks. D’oh!
I don’t talk about Amy, which only COULD improve, but did not. Dunno why.

One word, all is in your hands, SEGA and Sonic Team. Maybe, you could add the Babylon Rogues, or (just for fun) return any of old charachers – Fang, Bark, Manic…
On your decision.

And PLEASE, change Knuckles voice =( I mean mannere, do not change actor if you want\can not to, but remove that stupid growling. Knuckles voice in SA 2 was the best.

I don’t know, who’s fault is thet stories and other became so %###!!! now, but hope the one, that can change this everything, will read these words.

If you look at least at the comments on this page (plus the polls on Sega’s forum), you will see that there are lot of SA fans. Retro “fanatics” (your terminology) wanted Sonic 4, they got it, now it’s our turn.

Due to Sonic’s Anniversary SEGA plans to release THREE games. That means that Sonic Adventure 3 release will not affect other games releases, so Retro fans and critics will still be able to enjoy Sonic 4 and other projects which will be released not only on Anniversary but also after it. Adventure fans deserved their piece of a happiness.

Wow… 20 years… I can still remember playing Sonic 2 and having a hard time beating Chemical Plant Zone! Then it was on to the Adventure series! From there Sonic had a few ups and downs with trying to please such a large fanbase, but I personally think he did alright in lasting this long.

SEGA Sonic is amazing I wasent there from the start sonic was 4 when I was born… but when I got older I played sonic on the genesis I can remember it vaguely I dident like it because I kept on dieing (when I was about 6-7) ao anyway I kind of avoided sonic games in 2010 around summer I sudenly loved sonic again I’ve got sonic 1 on my ipod and xbox sonic 2 on xbox sonic 4 on xbox and ipod sonic and knuckles on xbox sonic adventure 1 on xbox sonic colours and all stars racing on wii
I’m buying sonic unleashed for xbox and thinking of buying all stars racing for it too lets not forget sonic rush for the DS
I also bought alot of other stuff like figers a sonic t-shirt and plush’s I cant wait for them
I dont mind what kind of game it is I’d love sonic adventure 3 since you made colours but I would also like to see sonic 4 ep 2 I think both would be cool just make sure Tails is included I love that little fox

I wasn’t born when the first Sonic game came out…. in June, but I was born that November. I Didn’t start Following the series until I was like 9 or 10, Since then I’ve ALWAYS been a SONIC fan…..

And, yeah, I HATE MARIO!!! No more Sonic games where is Mario and don’t change Sonic’s style! He is realy cool already. Sonic Colors was pretty good but I didn’t like how Sonic act. He was… little pesky. I think he was wonderful in “Sonic unleashed”, “Sonic Heroes”, “Sonic Adventure DX” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 2006″. Games always have specified target audience if you didn’t know. For Instance “Unleashed” was made for two types of gamers – people who likes 2d and “Sonic only” and for fans of beat ’em up. Colors was made for new young fans and Nintendo gamers, while Sonic 4 was made for guys of Genesis era. Theese are the SEGA’s words. But that does not mean that this games only made for those types that I’ve mentioned. Colors was good for some Retro fans as well. Game may satisfy a lot, but it is always made for target audience, which is a part of a trading in game developing buisness.

Shadow the Hedgehog is not a game for SA fans. Iizuka said that this was a game for Western gamers who loves shooters, and movies like Terminator.

I too agree with sonic52789,
I’ve been a huge Sonic fan since before I can remember, since I’m nearly the same age as Sonic. (off by a month)
Sonic Adventure 3 would be great, as long as you go with everything sonic52789 suggested and keep all elements of the first two Adventures, nothing more. Everyone else is going back to where they were in their prime and absolutely succeeding.

If done, this game needs everything:
Battles, racing (preferably no vehicles unless it’s eggman, tails or amy), treasure hunting,
all the good characters: such as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Eggman (non-playable), Shadow, Big, some Robot, let’s throw in Team Chaotix (Espio mainly), Silver (as long as you make him better, if not, no!), and Metal Sonic (give him/it something to do)

Take it from someone who’s known what the perfect Sonic game would be for years.
We need the old voice actors (if possible), some free-roaming, long stages, epic plot, great songs (you’ve been doing fine on this most of the time, actually)
I’ll just stop here, but seriously, You did good going back to your roots on Sonic 4, now go up a tiny bit further and stop when you almost get to the “Shadow the Hedgehog” game.

You guys are still awesome, and I will always be a huge fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, the fastest thing alive.

For starters… I WANT SONIC ADVENTURE 3.

And I am touched and amazed by the response of the Sonic fans. I have never felt so proud to be a Sonic fan as I have been reading most of the replies on this thread. SEGA… if you truly want to listen to your fans… Sonic Adventure 3 is the way to go. As long as you execute it right.

As for all the people saying Sonic 2006 and Sonic Unleashed could have been Sonic Adventure 3… no. If either of those was meant to be SA3, it would have been CALLED SA3. Allegedly, both games were going to be called SA3 at one time, but they changed the title. Know why they changed the title? Because the game became too DIFFERENT in development for it to be considered SA3.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 came kinda close (aside from the numerous flaws), but it was still missing a lot of the well-known Sonic Adventure things… the Master Emerald? Chao Gardens? Gameplay with several different characters (both Adventures had at least 6 characters)?

And Sonic Unleashed played NOTHING LIKE the Adventure series. Nothing about it could have fit into the Adventure series, aside from that Sonic was in it. Do I really need to explain this?

I sincerely hope they at least do some kind of big game that’s an actual new game. The compilation thing that’s been rumored sounds good, but not as good as a new game. This is Sonic’s 20th, here.

If they make SA3… I hope it has a well-thought plot, a plot with its serious moments but also funny clever moments too, and GOOD CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, like the Adventures had. To be honest, I don’t like the shallow ass we saw in Sonic Colors. I liked Sonic best when he seemed more human.

GOOD PLOT + CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT + 3D LEVELS + CHAO GARDEN + CRUSH 40 MUSIC = SONIC ADVENTURE 3.

The classic fans got theirs in the form of Sonic 4… now it’s our turn to get Sonic Adventure 3. I believe in you…

If there was ever any doubt that Sonic Adventure 3 was important, there shouldn’t be doubt anymore. Your loyal fans have proven that. It was always wanted.

Sonic Adventure 3 would sound good. But something more along the line of Sonic Adventure would be fine. Actually having world maps and different places to go and stuff, while, at the same time, you’d be enjoying the environments of the world maps… Like a remade Mystic Ruins. Or Angel Island! And Chao Gardens…. Heck yes. A Sonic Adventure 3 that is a homage to its Dreamcast successor… And possibly its Genesis ancestors. Like…. Finding special portals to get to special stages, and finding Chaos Emeralds, instead of the storyline revolving around taking and receiving the Chaos Emeralds with ease.

Sonic Unleashed had some great stages for Sonic. Make a 3D game with Sonic speed, and just do that.
Sonic Unleashed showed us that Sega can make a good 3d game. Just no more mini games-characters for Sonic to play with!

I think would love to see more Sonic come out for mostly Nintendo Wii and XBox 360, but please not for PlayStation because for some reason it just don’t fit PS3.

Sheesh, where does the time go? My favorite game character’s been around for 20 years? Wow… there’s a lot of stuff I want to comment on but I don’t think there would be enough room on this site (lol). So I’ll stick to the main parts:
I’ve been a ‘true blue’ fan since the second game came out (for the Genesis) and have enjoyed almost every game that’s come out, including the Olympic game crossovers and especially Super Smash Bros. Brawl (they finally put Sonic in as a fighter!).
I recently picked up Colors and it’s great so far. But like a lot of other fans I miss the Chao Gardens from the Adventure series… among the different versions I’ve raised so many of the cute critters I’ve honestly lost count. A new Adventure game would be great, but not if it’s rushed to the point where it becomes garbage. And speaking of crossovers the idea of a Mario-Sonic crossover game would be absolutely epic… why limit their teaming up to sports games? Personally I would like for Sonic Speed Riders to be ported to the Wii… since the Sonic series is now open to all three main consoles they’d better KEEP it that way!!

Well… Along with 90% of the rest of the comments, I would also like to see sonic adventure 3. Just
One thing though… It should pick up right where SA2 left off. Forget any game that happened after it. (especially shadow the hedgehog… If that tied in with the SA series it would get WAY to confusing…) I do understand why it wouldn’t be released, the dreamcast seems like the only fitting place for the series. There are also other sonic titles that should be brought back, such as sonic battle or sonic advance. But after clocking in over 200 hours on both sonic adventure 2 and sonic adventure 2: battle (not to mention all the other hours on SA1 and SA1:DX) I’m ready for a new Sonic Adventure.

P.s. I don’t care what nintendo power says, Big the Cat isn’t that bad of a character… And I NEVER thought of Tails as a mutant.

I love sonic so much!!!! <3 Happy 20th birthday! I just turned 21 recently and I still play sonic and collect a bunch of sonic stuff too ^^ a pillow, stickers, plushies, etc ^^
I am so happy, sonic adventure has impacted my life! I've been a huge fan, and learned about one of my favorite bands in the world crush 40!!
I also met my best friend at the time, we used to talk about crush 40 and sonic so much before he passed, so sonic meant a huge part of my life, Especially sonic adventure games.

What I personally would trully love, is y’all to bring back a new updated sega genesis console, like it was before cept better, cartridges and all cuz cd’s suck. With all the original sonic games, and make em look new again.
That was my favorite console, was the most practical, and I wish I could see it again with my favorite game/character that originated from it.

This Person has the right idea. The Adventure series was ok but it needs to be left behind. Sonic Colors and Sonic 4 are the games that you should be looking at. They are the closest to an actual Sonic game in years. Thanks Dude

I say NO to Adventure 3. Leave the Adventure series in the past where it belongs.

Sega, you’ve got something good going with Colors. Explore this direction, concentrate on quality and gameplay & bring Sonic back to his former glory! (And please forget about the horrible cast of side characters that the past 10′years have spawned!)

i am a huge, and i mean HUGE, sonic fan i have sonic everything, from clothes to movies, ALL OF THE GAMES, comics, toys, little tiger hand held sonic game (anyone else remember those?) and many more that i cant remember at this time!!! Any way i agree with most of these people there needs to be a sonic adventure 3, BUT and i do mean but. Dont make it anything like SA2, that game blew hard!!! but if it were like SA1 just sweeter…….OMG best game ever. I waited 17 years to play sonic 4 and loved it (short game) cant wait for installment 2, Sonic4 episode 2, but thank god you could use super sonic in sonic 4 that was starting to piss me off about sonic games, Sonic Adventure for example awesome game and yes still play it got it from the PSN and DX content. Just please if you are making sonic adventure 3 dont screw it up PLEASE! and if you do make it, give us all what we are hoping to see…..SUPER SONIC, not at the very end of the game either, make it so you can use him in sonic 2 and 3. or even better use him after you beat the game but for the love of GOD (sonic) let us use him in the game.

I speak for all sonic fans when i say Sonic adventure 2 was the best. I want to see in my lifetime sonic adventure 2 remade for 360 or ps3, NOT THE WII. nice grafics more depth to the story and back story of shadow and the ARK (i pretend shadow the hedgehog game didnt happen…) like you guys did in sonic the hedgehog 06.

Oh and the biggest problem with the new sonic games is the terrible voice actors. Sonic adventure 2 had the best actors yet. you guys made a horrible mistake picking up the 4kids actors sonic and shadow should not be voiced by the samg person and knuckels shouldnt play 4 voices in a game for god sakes get rid of the yu-gi-oh guy for the love of god. bring back David Humphrey, Ryan Drummond and Conner Bringas, i belive Deem Bristow died so hes out but fire those terribad voice actors from 4kids

AND FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GAMING BRING BACK CHOAS! they are so cute and great life spenders, hours and hours of being in the gardens and lvling and breeding them.

Hold on, I’m noticing some people are suggesting a REMAKE for SA2 instead of SA3, the next chapter… Well let me ask you this:

WHY?! Why would you want a remake for the 20th Anniversary of a game that’s already been made? We don’t need a remake, we’re not MARIO and give a remake for an anniversary game (Sega does what nintendon’t). OKAY, So SA2 was the greatest game of all time, that doesn’t mean it needs to be remade. What needs to be remade about it? It’s perfect the way it is. If I want to play SA2 I can just turn on my wii, grab my gamecube controller and start playing. I don’t need a remake. What I need, and what all of us need, is the next chapter, to the greatest video game series ever, and bring back… The Adventure Era… Sonic Adventure 3…

@kashif – RUMOR, RUMOR, Sega would never throw a Re-make at his fans for the 20th anniversary game. They are not Nintendo. I checked out the paragraph on the link you put, but listen to what it says right here:

You see that? In case you didn’t, here it is again (look for the stars):

So all in all, No one knows what the 20th Anniversary game would be, except Sega, and if Sega releases a Remake as the 20th Anniversary game, they will disappoint a lot of their fans, Sega does what Nintendon’t.

Sega, Please, We don’t want a remake for the 20th anniversary! We want Sonic Adventure 3! Please!

@Reynaldo Antonio – Actually… No. Sorry but, in Sonic Colors, I may have liked the music (except for the theme), wisp power, and multi-player. But, in that game, it was NOT Sonic The Hedgehog.

I’m sorry but, when I buy a Sonic game, I think “Oh Hey! A Sonic game! Time for fun game-play, a thrilling storyline, fantastic music, and awesome cut-scenes! Not to mention the cast of the characters.”

But with Sonic colors, all there was was fun game-play, great music, and multi-player.

Don’t get me wrong, I liked the game, I’d just prefer a game like SA2 or Sonic Unleashed (Unleashed just needed a couple more characters, a chao world, and it would have been as good as SA2… Almost ;)than this one.

But what I didn’t like about colors, was that the Sonic, did not act like Sonic The Hedgehog. Sonic is a cool, cocky, adventurous, Hedgehog. Not a TOO MUCH care-free, childish acting Hedgehog who says “Dude” (Sega, Sonic characters should not say dude in the way they did in colors), and busts up at jokes like “Boldy McNose Hair”.

BUT, I will say this. I liked the game. Just like every other Sonic game. I just like some Sonic games more than the other.

Also, Sorry if this sounded against colors, I was just saying what I, a teenage Sonic fan thought about the game.

forget the user name, more sonic games are on Wii than ps3 or 360. As much as I want SA3, that is a game like the Legend of Zelda games. They are great, or not so great, if they rush things then you will have a repeat of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, and we don’t want that do we? I think we should have a massive compilation of EVERYTHING. From the original to SA2, including Knuckles Chaotix, and Sonic Shuffle. Unless you think shuffle was that horrible, I would like to see it, (maybe as an unlockable at the bottom of the list), I don’t know. but I don’t want to play a crappy SA3. As for doability, (funny word ) The wii optical disc has 8.54 GB of space, and you got everything except for chaotix and shuffle on the gamecube on four 1.4 GB discs, along with plenty of cool images and added features, so it’s possible with even extra space. It’s just up to you as to whether or not you do it.

Happy b-day Sonic! Though I’ve been a fan of Sonic for only 5 months, I have to admit that this guy really changed my feelings towards videogames! All I ask SEGA for is for a good Sonic game for the PS3 with outstanding graphics, cool storyline and the most important GOOD gameplay.

in the hopes that even if it wasn’t planned for the 20th Anniversary, SEGA might listen to all these fans crying out for it, who have been waiting 10 years for a Sonic game at the same level as Sonic Adventure 2, the best action game of its era.

Why do we want SA3, or an open letter to Sega
Over the past few years Sega began to consider the wishes of the fans, to interact with them, and has achieved good results. We see that Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations satisfy a big part of the fandom, such as the fans of retro and the new young fans of Sonic. This shows that Sega thinks about their gamers, the fact of which, of course, is great.

Nonetheless, Sega forgets or pretends to forget about the huge part of the fans, who also care about Sonic, and who also want to have their wishes taken into account. It’s the fans of the Adventure series.

Sega frankly stated several times that currently there are only two types of Sonic fans — retro fans and new younger fans who loved the blue hedgehog for Unleashed and Colors. It isn’t correct. There is a lot of SA and SA2 fans, and they are still waiting for their good game.

This year is the 20th Sonic’s anniversary, and it’s a very important event. Sega has promised to make a gift for all fans. What did they make? They made a great beautiful game for retro fans and new children fans and forget about the others. Of course, they included levels from the Dreamcast era in Sonic Generations, but does it matter? Does 3D Green Hill in SA2 make this game a retro one? None. They also re-released SA and SA2 soundtracks with no new songs, no bonuses, no better quality, and even left out about 1/3 of all the melodies. Is this a pleasing gift? None. And we want to have something truly good done for us too, as for everyone else. We don’t want to be forgotten, and we want a game for us.

But now let’s put the anniversary aside for a while and find out why we Sonic Adventure fans are neither retro Sonic fans nor modern Sonic fans.

The Adventure series differ from other Sonic games a lot. While retro and modern games put emphasis on the gameplay, SA didn’t forget about good plot being in harmony with different styles of gameplay. Those games involved many characters, allowed smooth presentation and proper development to each one of them. We enjoyed bonuses like chao gardens, missions, multiplayer, and so on. Playing the SA games was like an exploration — when you didn’t have to rush straight ahead at top speeds pressing the boost button constantly, but could slow down for a while looking for a new secret, or when you were on the quest of searching for the pieces of the Master Emerald, or were making your way through the loads of enemies. You could move freely wherever you wanted. And many fans loved this version of Sonic’s world.

The new formula of recent Sonic games was born under pressure of retro fans wanting Sonic to be only one character appearing in newer games. But Sonic’s name featured in each game’s title doesn’t mean that all other characters are unwanted and unneeded. This formula, even appearing to be attractive and allowing the player to feel the speed, actually is far from perfect. For example, it leaves out parts of the level made in full 3D where you don’t just run forward smashing the obstacles. It has too much 2D, thus letting the very essence of 3D games get lost, and it has way too little of the real platforming. Not to mention uninteresting one-day characters and weak plot. All of this makes the SA fans feel sorrow and disappointment.

So what does the game need to make a real Sonic Adventure 3 and leave fans satisfied?

Unlike many people think, it’s not just a title. The game can be named whatever Sega wants, but it has to take over the style and concept of the SA series. “Sonic Adventure 3” is used only because there’s nothing better.

The features of the series are listed below.
The main features:
1. At least 6 playable characters, each one of them having his own storyline and developing his personality.
2. At least 3 different styles of gameplay, the speedy one including exploring of the world and made entirely in 3D. The boost, if there is to be one, shouldn’t be used all the time. Actually, just regular spindash would be fine.
3. Powerful plot preferably written by Shiro Maekawa, without plotholes such as “Why is the Moon back to normal again”. Plot and gameplay should be equally important.
4. Soundtrack by Crush 40, Jun Senoue, Kenichi Tokoe, Tomoya Ohtani and Fumi Kumati, featuring different genres such as rock, jazz, techno and so on.
5. Yuji Uekawa’s design and style.
The secondary features:
1. Some innovations. Maybe changes in the gameplay in comparison with the gameplay in SA and SA2, or online gameplay, or something like this.
2. Chao-gardens.
3. Takashi Iizuka as the level designer.
4. 2D artworks.
5. Adventure-fields.

If worked out properly, all of them altogether will make a game we want.

And one more thing. Why is S2006 not SA3?
Due to the rush the developers had been in the game turned out to have an awful lot of flaws and glitches. It just wasn’t actually finished. That incomplete attempt of creating a game simply can’t be taken as the successor to the SA series. Just like Sonic Advance can’t pretend to be Sonic 4, S2006 doesn’t have qualities SA3 absolutely requires.

What about Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic Unleashed — well, those games are even farther from the SA formula than Sonic Next Gen, and they can’t be taken as Sonic Adventure 3 as well.

SA fans are now beginning to take action. The 20th Sonic’s anniversary became a catalyst; we can’t stand the fact that nowadays being a fan of SA and SA2 is considered to be a flaw anymore. Here are proofs that we do exist and there are many of us:

I must insist on making Sonic Adventure 3.
Or at least a game with plot with continuity, without flaws and which is AWESOME. You know what makes a good game? Atmosphere, the overall feel of it. The word “adventure” was always what made Sonic interesting. Since we were not just running around the world, but we were doing something that mattered. That helped to make the impression, that you live the story, not that you just watch it.
I feel so sad, and I mean really sad, that since Sonic 2006 there was no attempt to tell what happened next. I really feel sorrow, that that was the conclusion and that the great potential was wasted.
There is so many people who disagree with me. There is so many people who think that this disagreement is good enough reason to not make game like that. I think that this disagreement is a good reason for THEM to not PLAY a game like that. But not to tell other people that they are wrong. You know, since the individual preference is not something which could be right or wrong.
