Dreamcast Collection Announced!Today we’re happy to announce that the Dreamcast Collection is coming to Xbox 360 and PC Digital Download on February 22nd! The collection includes the fan favorites Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, SEGA Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5: Part 2. Players will get to enjoy four very different Dreamcast experiences, from hopping behind the steering wheel of Crazy Taxi, to taking things a little slower by luring in their fish before catching them hook, line and sinker with SEGA Bass Fishing. Alternatively, take over as intergalactic news reporter Ulala in Space Channel 5: Part 2 and dance your way past the evil Rhythm Rogues, or make it all about speed in Sonic’s first Dreamcast outing, Sonic Adventure! As a huge Dreamcast fan, this is very exciting and welcome news! The chance to revisit some favorite SEGA Classics of the last gen on the new is fantastic. Having spent countless hours with each of these titles, I’m ready to do it all over again!

The European blog made it seem like the PC collection was being released through retail…
o_o
So…is it being released through retail, digital distribution, or both?
And, if it’s being released through digital distribution, will the games be released only on a collection, or will they also be available separately?
(well, as long as Sonic Adventure is released for the PC through digital distribution, I’ll be glad) :>

This collection is a little weak. They should have put jet grind radio and virtual fighter 3tb at least put something on there that we haven’t seen in a while.

I’m also sad for no PS3 release. I guess the PC version will do though I wish this was on PS3. I’ve recently realized that most of my PS3 titles are Sega games, its like I have a next gen Sega console only its has the Playstation logo on it lol.

To those requesting Power Stone, that was a Capcom game, not a SEGA game. You’d have to bug Capcom about it if you want those games rereleased.

Whoop-dee-doo if the collection was announced a little bit sooner I might have decided on picking it up. Maybe if the games WEREN’T ports of ports of xbla titles already announced and available for download. Sega claims to have “enhanced graphics” but they are all just the port’s revisions from previous consoles.. Hell, even Sonic Adventure DX is added on as dlc.
SEGA BASS FISHING = Wii/PC Port
Space Channel 5 – Part 2 = PS2 Port
Sonic Adventure (DX) = GC/PC Port
Crazy Taxi = PS2/GC Port
How about something new.. like games that you DON’T see on every other console..

Weak. After the excellent Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection, I was hoping that a Dreamcast Collection would be just as good. So much for that.
Oh well. Already got Crazy Taxi off PSN. Space Channel 5 is next. Then I’ll continue to wait for true classics like Jet Set Radio, Skies of Arcadia, and Shenmue to come out.

What about the PS3? You do know that you can put pretty much every dreamcast game made by SEGA. Also, we don’t care about HD quality. That’ll take too long. Why not put unedited versions to fill up. It would take less time and you’d get more money.

Like other mentioned, this is pretty disappointing. Most people expected a package more like the Ultimate Genesis/Mega Drive collection. I mean…Bass Fishing? Really?
Also, I wager that the Sonic Adventure DLC won’t work with this.

Sonic Adventure was the last Sonic game I ever played. I hated it so much that I stopped playing subsequent Sonic releases out of spite.
Sonic CD was the greatest Sonic game ever made to date. Unfortunately not many people had the chance to play it because of its release on the ill-fated Sega CD. Do your fans and yourselves a favor and give us an HD remake of Sonic CD! You can thank me later.

Get with the #$%& program, SEGA. I mean, really??!! You release old games with no enhancements whatsoever, no matter how desperately needed they were (Big the Cat needs to go) through digital means and then release a collection of the exact same games once aa=gain and through digital means? You didn’t even give us a price point! And did you really not make enough money from rehashing old stuff once again to enhance it at all? You couldn’t even put it on a disk, throw in a fifth title, or make it available for both HD consoles? You guys have truly become a mere shadow of your former shelves. And by the way, it just hurts for you guys to describe Sonic Adventure as “all about speed” with Big the Cat being who he is – GET HIM OUT OF THERE!!! NO ONE LIKES HIM AND HE ONLY RUINS THE GAME!!!!! Honestly, not one of us is rooting for him, stopping you from annihilating that debacle once and for all.

If you’re cashing in on people’s nostalgia (which is fine with me) you should at least do those memories (and people) justice. Releasing such a weak pack with 4 lazily ported games isn’t going to cut it and it’s about time the people at SEGA realise this.
Listen to the fans and rethink this release.

I was so excited to hear about it coming to a physical format. I wanted a great collection to pull out whenever I wanted a good time. Then you give us SEGA Bass Fishing?
I read your bloggers talk and write about how amazing it is to have Bass fishing! wow.. SEGA of America has no power over anything. Please.. tell the real SEGA in JAPAN to do something worthwhile. Tell your programmers that THERE IS MORE SPACE PAST THE 4:3 in Sonic Adventure 1 and give us a GREAT collection!! I want Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic adventure 1 one ONE DISC.
I skipped buying Sonic Adventure on PSN at Christmas discount because I was waiting for this. Then you guys release it only on the XBOX 360. wow.

The reason that there’s no PS3 version is because Sony made all retailers stop advertising the DC if they wanted to sell their PS2. SEGA is basicly flipping Sony off for being jerks and ruining them all those years ago. I agree, sony doesn’t deserve any games from them. They’re jerks.

I don’t get it. Are SC5 and Bass Fishing gonna be released on XBLA just like SADX and Crazy Taxi? Or are they going to sell the 4 games on a DVD? If so, I’m not buying it. I have SA for Dreamcast and XBLA already, and I’m obviously NOT going to buy the same game 3 times.
On the other side, if SC5 was released on XBLA, I’d buy it without thinking!

I’m sure that Jet Set/Grind Radio would sound a lot different, what with the licensed music may not be an option. I’m a bit bummed that an updated Crazy Taxi 2 is not on the list, as well as Shenmue, Shenmue II, Sonic Adventure 2, 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker, Alien Front Online, Daytona USA, SEGA Rally Championship 2, The Typing of the Dead, Virtua Fighter 3tb, F355 Challenge: Passione Rossa, Fighting Vipers 2, Rent-A-Hero No. 1, and as a special treat, a finished, online, Propeller Arena.
Then again, I think this first package is testing the water.

I’m disappointed on so many levels. It doesn’t need to be released on the PS3 cause the PS3 already offers the 2/4 good games in this set already. I understand you can only put so many of the old greats onto one disc but these are not the best four. Sonic Adventure is a great game but it’s already been re-released to death. I would love to see some of the old greats come back.
Here’s a list of games guaranteed to have a fanbase lineup based on my gaming community:
Sonic Adventure 2
Gundam Side Story 0079 (dual analog will make this game good again)
Silver
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Round 2
NFL Blitz 2000
NFL Blitz 2001
Ecco: Defender of the Future
Gundam DX
Sonic Shuffle (A game that wasn’t good. But admit it, if you played it, you enjoyed it. )
Evil Dead: Hail to the King (In my opinion one of the hardest games ever made. And despite what people say the Dreamcast Version was better than the PS1 version)
Now that’s a list of games that, if they were to put them onto a PS3 disc, I’d be willing to drop $80 for. Sometimes people forget that many gamers aren’t just Fans of the old games. But, players of the old games. I just recently lost my Japanese Dreamcast and still play my U.S. Dreamcast. As is the situation with many older gamers. Some of these games can’t even be found anymore it seems. Many were just forgotten in the sands of time. If SEGA put any combination of these games on a PS3/XBox360/Wii Disc they would see fans buying them off the shelves for another chance to glance at the first appearance of Shadow, to converse with an old wise whale or pile drive their buddy into the grass to stop him from getting that conversion.

Sonic Adventure is better than SA2 in my opinion…
But SA is on Xbox LIVE and PSN, it’s not necessary a re-release for the 360 and the PC already have SADX.
The perfect collection in my opinion:
Sonic Adventure 2
Shenmue
Space Channel 5 Part 2
Jet Grind Radio
Virtua Fighter 3 TB
Fighting Vipers 2 (rare for us americans)
Crazy Taxi

Sega pretty much is dead without no support for us hard core fans I can’t stand Sonic he needs to retire 20 years it’s been already? That is seriously messed up! When are you Sega going to revive the Streets Of Rage series as well as Golden Axe in HD perhaps? And yes I wanna see a sequel to Shenmue! But this is for PC only that’s really messed up as well!.. I have a Xbox360 and a PS3 and Sega only cares about milking the franchise with Sonic Arrrrrhhhhhhh! Enough already with Sonic The Hedge Hog! Its also Nintendo Milks the franchise Pokemon that needs to die off as well!

sega head office in japan needs to make sure this collection for all sega branches is the best collection. the reasons being, this is the first time sega will get to showcase was this generation of xb360, ps3 & wii gamers missed out on. limiting the collection to only sega games is just wrong. what made the dreamcast extra great was it’s third party support, so to bring a collection with only sega games fails because some of those games have not seen a sequel since the dreamcast was off the market. we all know with third party it is tricky but i am sure some negotiating can take place to benefit all because if done right the revenue for sega and other parnters will be great and it give sega and third party companies a chance to explore possible sequels.
my list for sega dreamcast collection (SEGA OWNER,genesis, saturn, dreamcast)
POWER STONE, PROJECT JUSTICE, ZOMBIE REVENGE, TEST DRIVE LE MANS, ZERO GUNNER, PLASMA SWORD, SKIES OF ARCADIA,ECCO THE DOLPHIN,F355 CHALLENGE, MARK OF THE WOLVES, FIGHTING VIPERS, HEAVY METAL GEOMATRIX, JET GRING RADIO, JO JO BIZARRE ADV., READY TO RUMBLE, R E CODE VERONICA, SEGA RALLY 2, SILVER, SPAWN IN THE DEMONS HAND, SPEED DEVILS, SWORD OF THE BERSERK, TOKYO EXTREME RACER 2.

After receiving an email informing about a “Dreamcast Collection”, I was super excited!!
Being a HUGE fan of the Dreamcast (I stand by the fact that it was the greatest system ever, which paved the road for both Microsoft and Sony), I was eager to find out which of the great games would be included on the disc.
Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, SEGA Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5: Part 2 . . . .
Seriously!!??
If games like SA and Crazy Taxi weren’t already available via XBox Live, I would seriously consider it, but . . . Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5???
I actually ended up searching for a complete (or as close to as possible) list of dreamcast games, just to see what I could find. I even eliminated all games that were not listed as published by Sega, and found a few titles that are FAR superior to the games announced.
For example:
Grandia 2
Alien Front Online (The bonus would be ONLINE)
D2
Metropolis Street Racer
Quake 3 Arena
Skies of Acadia
Time Stalkers
Blue Stinger
Maken X
Outtrigger
Phantasy Star Online
So . . . . What are the chances that Sega will reconsider what titles are going to be included on this “Dreamcast Collection” ???

It’d be a good idea really to release on the PS3 as well, with titles like Sonic Adventure 2. Make them digital, make them a disc, either way they’ll get sold. I’d love to see (personally) SA2, Sonic Shuffle, Jet Grind Radio, and since it was on Gamecube and not on any current gen systems (that I know of), give us Sonic CD.

See, while the Dreamcast has a lot of fans Sega are going about this exactly the wrong way and alienating people who love the console. If they WANT our money, why not put a little effort in and port over games that we actually want like:
Skies of Arcadia (with Legends as DLC but uncompressed audio they could charge $20 and I wouldn’t complain), Rez, Virtual On:OT, Chu Chu Rocket, PSO:Blue Burst, Propeller Arena, Sega Swirl, Zombie Revenge, House of the Dead 2, Space Channel 5 Part 1, Outrigger, Cosmic Smash, Virtua Fighter 3, Fighting Vipers 2, Dynamite Cop, Alien Front, Virtua Cop 2, 18 Wheeler, Sonic Adventure 2, Jet Set Radio (even without the licensed bits). And Shenmue.
I’ve intentionally left out games with major licensing issues like Sega Rally and Samba, but they’re also more loved than most of this collection. And before anyone points out that Blue Burst was a PC port, remember that so was Sonic Adventure DX. They could even sell episodes 2 and 4 as DLC. But no; all we get is a bunch of PC ports of games with no online or licensing and LESS content than they had back on PC.
Bass is the only fun fishing game I ever played but it’s worthless without the rod, and even then it’s more of a curiosity than a classic. And why only give us the second half of SC5 when it (part 2) wasn’t even available outside of Japan? Adventure was never REALLY finished and DX just exacerbated that feeling… when a port that removed at least the graphical glitches would be pretty desireable. And Crazy Taxi without its licensing is almost half the game it was.
The point is even limiting the collection to four games (a dual layer DVD could easily fit
there are dozens of better choices than this- might I suggest: Jet Set Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Chu Chu Rocket and Cosmic Smash? And what about a PS3 version? No sale.
