So far, we’ve covered acts in Tropical Resort , Starlight Carnival, Sweet Mountain, Planet Wisp, Aquarium Park, and Asteroid Coaster. This week, we’re moving on to Terminal Velocity, Act 1. Level Details

You’ll start off with 230,000 points. To get a C rank on this level, you need a score of 300,000. To get a B rank, you need 500,000. For an A rank, you need 650,000 and to get the much-coveted S rank, you need 800,000 points. This is a short act, with time over at4:51.

As with the other acts, if you play well you will get a no-miss bonus. If you have no lost tries, you’ll get 280,000 bonus points. For 1 lost try you get 210,500 points, for 2 lost tries you get 182,500 points, for 3 lost tries you get 56,000 and for 4 lost tries you get 28,000. If you have 5 or more lost tries, you don’t get any bonus points.

There’s only one wisp power in this level, and it’s the white boost wisp. It’s always available in this act.

There are three types of enemies — the Egg Chaser and the Big Chaser are not worth points, but the Moto Bug is worth 1,500 points.

Walkthrough

This act puts together three of your favorite evil foes from previous racetrack-type encounters. Individually, they’re tough. Together, they’re really tough. No special rings or 1-UPs available here; just pure, unadulterated robot vs. hedgehog super-sprint action.

You start with an escort of three Egg Chasers up ahead – one in each of Sonic’s three running lanes. This makes dodging their laser blasts with quick step much trickier. Remember that Egg Chasers seing their arms right before they shoot. Watch for that action to Quick Step out of the way. The first Egg Chaser trio slams into a gate at about the halfway point of this first stretch, but three more drop in to take their place.

When Sonic reaches the end of the first run, he loses the Egg Chasers but drops onto a three-lane racetrack filled with Moto Bugs. At first there’s just a few, but their numbers increase as Sonic proceeds down the track. As in your first encounter with the bugs in Asteroid Coaster, slam them from the side or with a Boost from behind to pick up points. Don’t let them hit Sonic@ Eventually, Sonic hits a row of springs that bounce him over to the new road.

Now your old buddy the Big Chaser drops in behind Sonic. The road has three quick step lanes, as well. Like your first meeting with the purple monster, he tries to get up close and whack Sonic with big roundhouse swings. Hold down the boost button to create plenty of separation. This is good for two reasons: the Big Chaser can’t reach Sonic with his melee swing, and you get more time to see his two-lane purple laser blasts coming and quick step into the safe lane. Run into the center lane as often as possible; that way, it’s not necessary to quick step more than one lane to dodge lasers.

Soon, the danger multiplies. With the Big Chaser still on Sonic’s tail, a fleet of Moto Bugs suddenly joins in the fun. Keep dodging the Big Chaser’s laser shots while dodging bugs to reach the end!
