Up until this point, I will admit at being a little annoyed that besides the groundhog day message, nothing had been revealed and it was almost a quarter into the year. But when I heard a trailer was hitting the web on 04/07, I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into the trailer. I was pretty psyched for it just because it was Sonic. Actually, I tried to sleep the night before (since I’m on the East Coast) and I kept waking up in the middle night like I was an 8 year old on Christmas Eve night. When I watched the trailer, I was already excited but when both Sonic’s appeared, I really became a kid again. I was wide eyed with the biggest grin on my face. I got to show it to a friend of mine later that day and although he wasn’t AS excited as I was, he’s pretty stoked too. I can’t explain how much I am looking forward to this. I’m not sure what’s going to happen but I get the feeling this is going to be quite fun.

THE TRAILER WAS AWESOME!! While I perfer Modern Sonic, I love Classic Sonic. The attention of detail put in to Classic Sonic is just masterful, from the way he moves his arms, to his design. Seriously how were they able to make it work perfectly in 3D!

Modern Sonic has been done masterfully too. Green Hill is amazing. Seriouly the attention to detail is outstanding, from the patten on the grass, the Classic Green Hill square pattern, the trees, and even totem poles are all masterful.

But best of all, I love the tone. it’s so lighthearted, laidback, and carefree. It feels like the same tone as color, except a bit less… colourful? It’s all perfect. Whatever SOJ is doing Ruby, tell them to keep it up!

Colours started Sonic’s comeback, and this game looks like it’s going to make it offical! I. AM. PSYCHED!! WOOHOO!!

I would also like to thank SEGA for including classic Sonic! I may not be one of the more adamant fans about green eyes vs black eyes, but I’ve always had a personal preference for the old school look. Seeing him back in full 3D, even if it’s just one game, is a wonderful treat. Can’t wait to learn more!

I was quite happy for this little surprise as well. Even though I “semi-spoiled” myself with an article image, and the facebook player bar rudely going to the end, I enjoyed what I saw very much. The amount of exhilaration, energy and detail in the teaser made me watch it a few times over even though it was a mere 50 seconds or so.

I was hoping for something like this for Sonic’s 20th, and its nice to see that me and Sega are on the same page. ^_^

I don’t appreciate seeing comments that say things like “SEGA finally got it right!” or “Finally they got a clue!”

SEGA and Sonic Team have been listening to the fans and have been hard at work long before this. The notion that games like Sonic 4, Sonic Colors and SEGA All Stars Racing weren’t good solid titles is starting to grate on my nerves.

That being said, I’m very excited for this new game. I can only speculate what’s coming. Part of me guesses this’ll be like what Megaman Universe was supposed to be, a campaign across familiar levels with different costumes or characters, but we’ll have to wait and see, won’t we?

Good show, SEGA! Many thanks to you. I just hope that this isn’t the last we see of Retro Sonic.

I am a banned member from the SEGA forums for being one of the loud croud asking for classic sonic. I just wanna say that i’m really grateful that you guys listened to us. Some may find it crazy, but the gesture simply made me shed a tear. It’s as if you guys gave me the most symbolic present in the world. That’s how much it meant to me Ruby.

I wish that I could still be part of the forum and get to make a new start after the emotional frustration I had with s4e1(yeah I reckon lots of people do like it). It was siilly but I hope for your understanding and hope you guys can forgive us.

We are not really whiny when the things we love are treated with love and care too. We, the retro croud still very much exist, and you may have noticed especially after s4e1 teaser, how many of us found our way back. Thanks for everything. I can see a bright future.

I’ve been into animation for the past few years now, so this trailer REALLY amazed me. Seriously I was up at like 6 something in the morning squealing like a pig *……….*. Anyway, I’ve only just started working on 3D and CGI animation, and I was wondering if you could give me the email of someone at SEGA who can help me with the program: Autodesk Maya 2011, or just give me some basic tips. I would actually like to maybe get a job at SEGA in the future, so I want to really prep up before I have to really start thinking about a career path (I’m 15). Thx for reading this far, and I hope the game is a success.

P.S: Do Americans have any say so on new Sonic Games?

P.S.S: Looking forward to new info. Give my regards to the scripters, design directors, producer(s), and Sonic Team and tell them to keep on trekkin’! We’re all rootin’ for you guys!

P.S.S.S: In the event Classic Sonic is playable, it would be great to let him use the powerup from Sonic 3D Blast, which would allow him to do the homing attack, but wouldn’t completely take out the “Classic”. Also, it would be an GENIUS idea to add the Elemental Shields from Sonic 3 and Knuckles. And another suggestion, (wow thank you for reading this far!) to seperate modern from classic Sonic, (yet again assuming they’re both playable), Modern Sonic can have: Boost, Homing attack, Slide, wall jumps, Lightspeed dash, and Ground Pound, while CLASSIC Sonic can have the ability to spin while running (like when you press down while running in the Classics), the Insta-Shield ability, the spindash, and the elemental shields.

@Ryan In your dreams. Seriously, the last thing I would want to see (and probably the last thing that would EVER happen in a Sonic game) is Sonic and Amy getting married. I mean seriously, Sonic = 15 and Amy = 12, not to mention making couples official in the series.

Silly SonAmy couple requests aside, I’m really exxited and nervous for this game, and here are some requests that I hope are in the game. It’s very unlikely that Sega of America / Sonic Team would actually read them, but hey, it doesn’t hurt to try…

1. Just to set the record straight-I really hope this game doesn’t blow. Colors is the beginning of Sonic getting up off his feet. We don’t need another hyped to heaven “Sonic 06″ to make all that hard effort come tumbling down. So Sega, please take your time, and don’t rush it. And no idiotic plots, if this game has a plot. And no humans or hub worlds.

2. Please make classic Sonic have his regular moveset and physics. No Homing Attack please, and don’t make the level design end up forcing you to use it as an excuse to give him the Homing Attack. I don’t mind if there is a shield that enables classic Sonic to do the Homing Jump though, like the yellow shield in Sonic 3D Blast. And the physics/automated platforms in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 was what ruined the game for a lot of people. So please, not only make classic Sonic LOOK like classic Sonic, but play as classic Sonic too.

3. Please make classic Robotnik (not Eggman – Robotnik) appear and join Eggman as the main antagonists. No stupid doomsday monsters. I’m glad Colors (Wii version) stopped that trend.

4. Please make Tails, Knuckles, and Amy (BOTH classic and modern counterparts) playable. I’m tired of all of these 2D/3D games having only Sonic or a different form of him playable. If they are playable, no alternative playstyles – just give them the same levels Sonic has with exclusive alternative routes for each player. Give classic Tails/Knuckles/Amy their classic movesets/physics too, if needed give modern Tails/Amy sone reasonable new powers/attacks. And if the Chaos Emeralds (or Super Emeralds) are available to collect and use, please give us the ability to play as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles’s Super/Hyper forms again. A Super form for Amy would be great too.

5. Bring back elemental shields/monitors, please. And please keep Sonic able to turn into Super Sonic in regular gameplay levels (if the Chaos Emeralds are part of the story and/or are available to collect), as well as have enemies badniks and Eggpawns. I really liked the fact that Colors did the latter two.

6. Please put in some actual local / online competitive multiplayer. I’m very tired of Sega doing cop-outs on online multiplayer and only adding online leaderboards. It would be very nice to actually race friends or other people at your house or around the world. And if there is co-op gameplay, make player two be able to teleport to player one any time, use shields, turn into Super forms. And make it local/online too.

Hey cherr up even ir Sonic Adventure 3 isnt coming this year (still hoping for this year) it will definetly be the next sonic game for all platforms.
Why? You remember what Lizuka said If fans will really want it we will make it.
Even if there were no plans in october the 20th aniversary celebrations and posts on blogs really showed that majority of fans want SA3 to come so its definetly their next game.
We waited 10 long years if its not coming this aniversary I’ll wait 2 years more just let us know that its coming SEGA.

I doubt it will happen this year too but just look on youtube.
Sonic fans are very active this year one petition(the one I am linking you to in almost every post) gained 30000 views in one month.
In my opinion its preety much.
SA3 will be definetly next game of Sonic Team. Why? Look into my earlier post here I explained it there.
If I’ll have Sonic Generations, SA2 digital port, Sonic 4,Sonic 3DS, and many other games from dimps and colors team (ST will prodably work on SA3) I will wait another 2 years fof SA3.

Another reason for SA3 in 2 years is that unleashed formula is getting old and SG prodably would be last game with this gameplay for now. Its such a great oppurnity for SA3 that combined with my previous argument means something serious.
Think about it.

Maybe your right hopefully it could come maybe next year or maybe even later in the year it doesn’t have to be at an exact early date…and yeah I agree that The Unleashed/Colors formula is getting old perhaps SEGA should take a break from this and maybe bring another next time in the future….I’d also like some other gameplay style combined with the adventure gameplay

I wouldn’t mind another Storybook gameplay but they need to put a bit more work into it

There are also rumours of another Mario and Sonic game….I wouldn’t mind this but um perhaps it could be something different this time rather than olympics if it still is olympics then I won’t mind…..oor maybe Sonic and SEGA All Stars Racing VS Nintendo All STars Racing…man that would be crazy O_o….Or Sonic and friends going through Mario’s world world while Mario and his friends goes through Sonic’s world?

I like your idea about Super Sonic on the NGP That would be pretty sweet….I wouldn’t mind A Sonic Rivals 3 either but probably won’t happen though I hope a Sonic game will come on that consle in the future

and about SA3…you do have a point perhaps they might want to suprise fans after a while…in time the news will be revealed for Sonic’s 21st, 22nd or even 23rd Anniversary

I agree with you with hype but…NO NO NO for only Sonic Tails Knuckles and Amy to be playable. I mean who cares about Amy adventure (one more thing she wasnt playable in classics her first game was SA). Its not only celebration of Sonic but the whole franchaise.
I would love to see story where Sonic Knuckles and Tails go to past to stop Eggman because world is turning into time-space rift. Meanwhile im the future-future Gun is sending Silver and Blaze to past to contact agent Shadow and ask what is going on with time. Since Sonic is lost the three go to past and meet classics characters that dont know them.
There coulc be 3 story modes each with 3 characters (1.classic three 2.Sonic team. 3Shadow Silver and Blaze) and last story every episode could have different stages to play like:classic eps could have orginal genesis trilogy, Sonic team could have all the way to Adventure, „Gun team” could have from adventure to 06 and the last would be final boss.
Those characters are easier to implment speed formula to their gameplay unlike Amy so I think its good idea.

Sadly I think Olympics games are true. VP of Sega America said that it will be party game.
But when I am thinking about it: Does Mario and Sonic qualify as one of aniversary titles? Maybe not…?
On the other hand if Sonic 4 episode 2 was in early design stages in march I doubt it will be relased this year so we’ve got only one aniversary title confirmed for now. Maybe 3DS sonic will be a standalone game but I think it will be another version of Mario and Sonic.

So there is space for other games but what they could be? Sonic Adventure3?????????

The wii got its fair share like sonic 4 sonic colors sonic secret rings sonic black night sonic unleashed and all the vurtral console dose that satement make people happy?
Plus why cant it be sonic 3? well with a game big as sonic adventure 1 and 2 it would be hard to put it on all the consoles like wii, ps3 and xbox360 with different graphics and possably different gameplay…… but if you really want sonic adventure 3 to be the best sonic game well we need them to work on other projects to test what works out and what dosent like for example sonic unleashed sonic stages where awsome but werehog stages where okay sonic colors sonic stagtes are in the whole game but camera was not so good am I raight? We are the testers so don’t criticsize the good parts too bad or will never see sonic adventure 3 got it!

Whew… boy!! Calm down!!! You think you impressed me with your comment? I read this all the time, coming from kids like you. You think that giving a character “attitude to the extreme” like Shadow or Silver is the only thing that matters.

Those characters have no depth. at all. And as for the stories in Sonic games… well, I’m sorry but, they totally ruined what made Sonic good. This is a fact. Not just a fanboy comment. Maybe 13-16 year old like to think that Sonic adventures and other had cool stories, but trust me… they dont.

Just because Sonic can talk and you get to see INCREDIBLE cut scenes, dosent make a “story” any better.

Just look at Sonic 1 through Knuckles. They didnt have any dialogue in it, they didnt have any animation or whatever. but those stories were EPIC beyond belief. Why? Because you traveled with the characters trhough the levels, from level 1 (a simple yet charming green hill) to a FRIGGIN CHASE IN SPACE (in Sonic and Knuckles)!!! And there was a great storie with Knuckles about trahison and redemption. And the whole storie was about saving the earth, nothing less!!!!

What do you need more? This is not good enough for you???

You need Sonic to make bad jokes and Robotnik to tell you his intentions about conquering the earth? Why? Can’t you use your imagination? You need a “quadjillion” of sterotyped character with zero personnality, other than : I’m Shadow, I’m black AND I HAVE ATTITUDE!!!

So basically, you need to get drowned in simple “wow factor”. Good for you.

I need a game that focusses on gameplay and good levels. Not a game Like Sonic ’06 or even the adventure series that takes themself so seriously that they forget they are games (heck, the game itself is so bugged that it’s impossible to play)

So yeah. for me, Sonic Colors recaptured the essence of what made Sonic good. Simple, challenging game. Good controles, hard, not because it buggy as hell, but because its a true challenge. A story that serve only one purpouse; give the game a reason to be. not the other way around.

So yes, I read your comment. I didnt feel like being attacked by anyone, writting my comment, giving MY HUMBLE OPINION. But you attacked me. So I responded. If you’Re too immature to respect that not everybody feels the same way you do… I feel sorry for you.

Personally I think Sonic has gone solo for a while now and I don’t think it would be a bad idea to add other characters and make them playable like previous games not just spin offs or multiplayer actual gameplay 06, Adventure,Heroes etc

I wouldn;t mind them mixing those different types of gameplay

I have to say I didn’t really like Colo(u)rs (Wii Version) mainly for controls, features,cutscenes,VA,Lame Co-op mode and the awkward and cheesy jokes but not only that to me it felt like it had more 2D parts than 3D which were laggy and could have improved on that..I didn’t like how Sonic was portrayed either and it seemed really easy compared to other games I wouldn’t have minded a bit of a challenge :/ I enjoyed Unleashed more (HD Version) I find it more superior but on one positive thing I did enjoy the DS Version more than the Wii

There are fans who like other characters beside Knuckles and Tails…Some we’d like to be part of the story and involved with the plot I think we shoukld have more characters in future sonic games playable of course not all the time but It’s been a while now if it worked that way most fans would be happy to see their character playable or involved rather than not appearing at all I don’t care what the reviewers say I ignore them as they tend to take things the wrong way

Your comment look like its tellint how the game will look and the whole sentence „sonic colors is still the best game since genesis you should say „In my opinnion”. And just for the record I’ve been there in 1991 playing Sonic 1 and I played almost all sonic games even 06 and I dont think that Knuckles have any depth really he is one of my favourite characters but still.

Another one why sonic cant have serious story? Because he is a hedgehog? Alright now We will have more brainless cutscenes where sonic joke with bosses I hate it but its my opinnion.

(Actually I liked SA2′s story–as an author I can appreciate a good story)
Of course if a game itself is going to be bad the story might as well just be made into a novel or a movie or something.
