Celebrate Sonic’s 20th Anniversary with the Sonic Generations Collector’s Edition
The Sonic Generations Collectors Edition combines limited edition collectables based on the upcoming game, as well as assets handpicked by Sonic Team to celebrate Sonic’s 20th Anniversary, which provide the ultimate celebration of Sonic for fans new and old. Included in the collector’s edition is a collectable figurine featuring both Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic, an exclusive, individually numbered commemorative “Gold Ring”, and a “20 Years of Sonic Art” book, containing never before seen sketches and images from the past 20 years. Also contained in the Collector’s Edition are the ‘20th Anniversary Sonic Soundtrack’ featuring a selection of tracks handpicked by Sonic Team, and the ‘History of Sonic: Birth of an Icon’ documentary, an exclusive collection of interviews and footage charting Sonic’s life from inception through to becoming one of the most iconic characters in videogame history. Limited edition lenticular packaging and bonus additional downloadable content for the game are the final components that make up this unique collector’s edition for Sonic Generations. Sonic Generations will be available in November 2011 on Xbox 360, and PlayStation3. The game will also be released on the Nintendo 3DS system. Note: This collector’s edition will only be available in Europe and Australia.

“Note: This collector’s edition will only be available in Europe.”
This saddens myself, a lot;
Especially because I do not possess a Region 02 or a Region All Playstation 03.
I might just start working on a petition on this to bring this Sonic Gens CE stuff to North America, Canada, Japan, and Australia soon.

You know damn well how many people in America want this and your just gonna flip them off like this? You’re making the same mistake Infinity Ward makes when they release each Modern Warfare without a Hardened or Prestige edition for the PC gamers. Will you use your damn heads for once?

Ok, you’ve packed it out with useless crap such as songs, pictures and a documentary, but what GAMES are actually on it? How is it for the PS3/XBOX360 when you fail to mention WHAT GAMES CAN BE PLAYED?! I thought the whole point of GAMING products was that there are GAMES?!! Is this gonna be the same thing as the megacollection, gem collection etc? If so then why would anyone with a brain buy this for probably £50-100 when they can get the same thing without loads of added crap for much cheaper?

Honestly, I find it fair that only UK gets it, and USA doesn’t. For starters, USA gets a lot of games before UK does. For example:
Super Mario Galaxy 2
USA: May 26th
UK: June
Sonic Generations
USA: November 1st
UK: November 4th.
Secondly, USA is more popular.
If you disagree, this is just my opinion.

I can’t even remember having a Sonic collectors edition before. Was the 10th Anniversary Edition released in the UK? I can’t remember seeing it. Also, why not complain about Japan? They get way more awesome stuff than both of us.
Just buy the PS3 version, which is region free.

@Zero-Boom:
“Stop whining. You guys in America are the centrepiece of SEGA. Isn’t Europe allowed a couple of nice things?”
Wrong. Mike Hayes, the president and CEO of SEGA Europe and SEGA of America (collectively SEGA West), operates out of SEGA’s London offices. America is not the centerpiece of SEGA, most of the high level executives are in England and Japan. SoA deals with digital releases now.
Also, I think it’s unfair to tell US fans to stop whining. We should ALL want a WORLDWIDE release of this awesome box. Personally, I think it was a poor move to combine the blogs as I knew this sort of thing would happen. A cool region exclusive is shared on a combined twitter/facebook/blog post thus angering fans left in the dust. Best thing to do? Release this thing to the US!

I don’t understand how some people feel its justified that America isn’t getting this. I understand that Europe gets screwed out of a lot of stuff, but why does that justify it? It’s not like we’re the ones making the decisions not to give you guys shit. How often do we even get Collectors editions for Sonic games? So it’s a bit understandable why we’d be a little pissed that we’re not getting it. There’s no reason not for this to be released everywhere, and SEGA is making a mistake by not doing so. Unless of course they have something equally as nice planned for us.

I also would like to know if the US is getting anything special for Generations, yes I know we’re getting the game first(though last year, Europe got Colours first) however all these special editions either go to Japan or Europe. The US barely gets any of this cool stuff. though we continue support Sonic and Sega as much as anyone else worldwide, can’t for once we partake in the goods too (we never got the neat little editions for Yakuza either btw)?
Sure we could always import it, but that takes longer and is more expensive aside from the collector’s edition itself. There is also the factor of the documentary being playable on a US console, the DLC code, and for Xbox owners, if the game can even play on their system.
I’m not saying Europe doesn’t deserve the nice things it gets, but since both it and the US are now a more integrated unit under Mike Hayes, we should get the opportunity for similar things. I hope there is something planned for the US or there is time to produce additional copies, I would gladly change my order for something like this in a heartbeat.

THANKS A LOT FOR SCREWING YOUR UNITED STATES FAN BASE, SEGA!
I was highly anticipating a collector’s edition for this game but NO, “EUROPE ONLY”.
IT WAS BAD ENOUGH EUROPE ONLY RECEIVED A “SONIC COLORS SPECIAL EDITION” and we get stuck with a hat that barely anyone wears.
SEGA, i am HIGHLY disappointed, scratch that, FURIOUS at your decision. Its the 20th anniversary and you give us NOTHING with this game. I wanted a full collector’s edition with my game! I would’ve gladly p[aid in full at reserve for it. I don’t want to spend twice as much importing the damn thing and to have an unnecessary extra copy of the game since obviously my system CANT READ a Disc from another region!
SEGA, I HATE YOU WITH A PASSION! I REALLY DO. I knew you guys would pull some bull like this, but I gave the benefit of the doubt.
If you don’t care about the US fanbase, then just don’t sell your games here get the hell out.

please no “America gets more than Europe.” It isn’t helpful. We’re all upset that there is no information regarding a U.S. Release, and I’m sure Sega is planning something, otherwise they really don’t seem like they care.
But if you must know, IGN did a report about the exclusives over the last few years and the number of exclusive high rated titles is higher in Europe than the U.S.
@94 people are pissed because unless you have a PS3, and even then the dlc won’t work if I remember correctly, you still have to pay a good amount to order from another country. Besides that some of us have an Xbox 360 and can’t play a European game, so yeah, justifiable anger.

Not all of us can import, even then it takes more time and money (truth be told I would like to play it on release day) to receive the CE since it’s from Europe, I imagine a lot of people would like to play it day one. Furthermore, some stores won’t even ship outside of Europe.
There is also the fact that this is nothing new from SEGA, Vanquish and Yakuza have also had CE or LE sets that were exclusive to Europe while the US only got the standard editions, even Sonic Classic Collection had a special release in Spain. Sonic Colours even had a special edition(which were just figures, but even Australia received a nice looking classic controller).
I’m far from saying Sega shouldn’t do CEs, but we helped shaped Sonic too, and when stuff like this happens we have a right to voice our opinions or at least just about it like everyone else.
I would to ask Kellie if she happens to if the US was even considered in getting the CE before this announcement was made or if there is something coming down the road.

This is an even sillier move than limiting the Sonic Anniversary statues to the press and random giveaways.
Man Kellie, I feel for you and having to deal with the backlash because of corporate’s stupid decisions.

Honestly, I’m heart broken. SEGA doesn’t care about the US anymore. Anyone who will attempt to import the game is going to have to pay up to $200+ for the thing. It isn’t fair man. I don’t even wanna buy the game anymore, knowing we can’t get everything with it. I think I’m gonna cancel my preorder so I can save up for importing the collectors. That is if people don’t start buying multiples of it and try to double the price on ebay. T_T
This sucks man…

It says ‘coming to Europe’ but does that mean the UK as well? I ask because there have been a couple of other Sonic related special editions and pre-order bonuses that have seen the light of day in other European countries but not the UK.

I wonder though if this wouldn’t be a repeated case as with the 10th anniversary collector’s case, where there wasn’t much info on a US release to the point I had found it by chance being available at Best Buy a few days after I had already bought and beaten SA2.

I was extremely excited about this announcement then it says “Europe only”. Talk about kicking someone in the nuts. If Sega doesn’t consider the rest of the world’s Sonic fans important enough to be offered this awesome TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY CE, then Sega isn’t important enough to get my money. Will be buying Generations preowned if no where else gets the CE.

I’m gonna admit, as a massive Sonic fan that has purchased every single Sonic game for every platform, I’m severely upset by this.
When Sonic Colo(u)rs got a special edition in Europe, I told myself, “Well, at least it’s just a dinky figure that I can buy at a toy store anyway.”
But a statue? Art book? DVD? Soundtrack? Gold ring?
If I had to choose one word to describe my feelings right now, it would be “shafted.”
Anyone know where I can import?

Japan will alway get everything because SEGA is from Japan and its good to see Europe and Australia getting something cool, but you would think SEGA would release something like this Global. In other words im tired of having to go on EBAY and Amazon and pay $200 and up for collectable Sonic items. Please bring this to everyone. USA, Brazil, Africa, Cananda ect. Its a BIG year for Sonic!

@104 yeah, I don’t know what system you’re playing but the 360 isn’t region free. The PS3 is, but that doesn’t help downloading dlc, and the hassle of making a UK account and the high shipping fee. Certain games can have region free coding such as certain Asian games, but I doubt that would be the case with such a game as Sonic Generations.
@kellie. I know a lot of us are expressing our rage and frustration and you have to be the brunt of it even though you’re just the messenger, so thanks for dealing with us without ban-hammering everyone. Whoa there, calm down, people! If you really want this special edition in the US, you can import it. It’s not like it’s against the law for an American to own it, or anything, you’ll just have to be creative and find an alternate source. It would be nice if all regions got the same things, but licensing and other legal stuff gets in the way sometimes.

Though, the 20th anniversary soundtrack seems a tad disappointing, would be better to pair it off with the Sonic Generations OST. That and, everyone’s probably heard all the older songs, and some probably still can’t get songs out of their head. Unless the soundtrack’s full of arranges and remixes. Throw in a cake (or chili dogs) and it’ll be perfect, Sonic brand chili?

I won’t ban people for expressing their sadness, disappointment, or even anger. The only comments I’ve deleted (or not approved) are the ones that include f-bombs and other similarly harsh profanities, death threats, personal attacks, racist language, etc. Thankfully this has been a small minority, but it has happened. Kellie, I can see why you may think that the language in the messages you’ve been receiving are over-the-top and rude, but you must understand that this is 20 years worth of fans who have been anticipating a really good pre-order bonus since the days of Sonic Adventure 2. It seems like a real stab in the ass that UK is the only country receiving this bundle. You must excuse the fowl language because it’s only natural for fans to react this harshly after seeing that a bonus of this magnitude will be exclusive to one country only, even though we would all want it.

And to tip my tin foil hat at you too for clearly making the US customers help clear our national debts as well as their own, since they need to pay our 20% VAT then their own on import, THEN buy a copy they can play! From the reaction here, at Retro, and countless other blogs all over the place, it’s safe to say some jimmies were rustled and no doubt the folks in SoA saw the tempest coming as soon as they were told “Europe and Australia Only.”
Not sure how the process works here, but I wonder if it’d be easy to appease the higher brass to make this a super limited release in the U.S. (Something like 10,000-20,000 units at the max) and charge $70-$80 for it. Granted, that’s nearly a 100% hike on the price, but there’s clearly a large demand for the bundle.
It just seems like a very easy through, but I’m not considering any behind the scenes agreements we the lowly public aren’t privy to, which I suspect may be what’s at hand here.
Damn shame, I was already slowly reaching for my credit card when I saw this.

Damn, Kellie, sorry to see you’re getting so much nasty backlash; some folks aren’t making the, uh, best examples of the NA fanbase. Thanks for dealing with the lot of us.
I have to echo a lot of people though and say it’s too bad this CE doesn’t *seem* to be heading over here. I do hope that even if a mere reduced CE makes it’s way to North America that it at least has the Art Book, Sound Disc, and Documentary – but getting the full package would be hella-amazing! I would totally import but I’m too wary of having the thing either broken, lost, or flat out stolen in transport, especially with the figurine in mind. But if I must I’ll cave; the diehard fan in me wants this on my shelf very badly.
Can’t wait to hear if there might be a change of hearts in upper management. Totally crossing my fingers up here in Canada.

I’m discussted at some of the comments here. I’m in the UK so am lucky to be able to get this (fingers crossed!) but the amount of abuse being thrown at SEGA & at Kellie in particular, is outrageous! To all you foul mouthed American idiots: at the end of the day it’s a bit of plastic & cardboard. If the tables were turned & this was an American exclusive, I’d be dissapointed for sure. But I wouldn’t throw abuse at a SEGA moderator for doing her job & posting this news up here. Hopefully the posts in question will get deleted as this is a family website after all. Thank you Kellie for all the hard work you do (& to the idiots who will now no doubt attack me for no reason: no, I’m not kissing ass. -sigh- Majority of you seem to be thinking selfishly, rather than thinking like a company. To ship items to EUR and AUS is a ton of money by itself, but when you throw in the USA, which has a much higher shipping fee, then you’re looking at a huge amount of money spent on shipping that product. Now think of this: When SEGA desires to ship out the Collectors Edition to the USA and doesn’t get more money then what they payed to ship it for, we might be seeing the next SOnic game in about 5 years. Not a main story, side story, etc, but any type of Sonic game. Even non-Sonic SEGA games would be put at a halt for a very long time. So please, people in the USA, read my comment and actually think this way before making a dumb rage post.

Even if you are, either way, it seems like a terrible business decision. It just doesn’t make any sense! Can someone at all from SEGA themselves, explain what’s going on?!

It sounds to me that you’re convinced that what these people are saying is actually legitimate. They don’t mean it, I’m sure, and you should be taking these comments more maturely by ignoring them, or removing them. Instead you’re garnering up attention that isn’t needed, and these people that are giving you trouble are simply frustrated to a very high degree because of the fact that SEGA had to be unfair and release this excellent bundle in the UK only. I get comments like the ones you’re receiving on a daily basis via my YouTube channel, simply because I voice my opinion on why I prefer Mario over Sonic- yet I usually ignore them, and well, you should do the same.

TheBalishChannel – oh no, I know all about the hyperbole that the anonymous internet can bring. I’ve been doing this job for a loooong time, so this is nothing new to me. And I am deleting the offensive ones. But it’s also part of my job to respond when I can, and also part of my job to guide the conversation — all of which I am doing by letting people know that these types of comments are not acceptable.

@Kellie – Respond when you can, eh? Well what categories does that include? Responding to comments you find harsh or offensive? I think it would be pretty cool if you interacted with the fans and expressed your opinions towards the decision that the pre-order bonus is only available in the UK. But I’m not seeing it happening. Maybe if you showed sympathy towards the fans, rather than leaving them to complain and cuss, it wouldn’t be such a big problem like it is now.

TheBalishChannel – yes, respond when I can. Like for instance, talking to you about best practices in comment moderation and community management. I do interact with fans, and I do have sympathy for the fans that feel slighted by this. And, as previously mentioned, people are free to express their disappointment and anger, so long as the language they use to do so is not offensive or abusive.

@Kellie – How does letting us express ANGER and DISAPPOINTMENT help anyone in this situation? IS it truly impossible to send it to the US? I would think that America is probably SEGA’s biggest source for their fanbase! And why was Austrailia added, and not US? That just doesn’t make any logical business sense. Hundreds of fans are willing to pay money for this, and are currently being let down.

@Gibbagobba – I think it’s important to let people express anger and disappointment. If I were to go through and delete all the comments that were negative about us or our products, it wouldn’t be long before people would just stop coming here and would instead go to one of the many other places on the internet where people can discuss games and gaming. All deleting the negative comments would do is further anger people and cause an even bigger backlash.
It’s also important to us to hear from our fans. We can’t always make everyone happy, but we do truly care about our fans and if we never allowed criticism, we wouldn’t be as in tune to what you guys are thinking and feeling.

@Sonic fan 4ever, why are you so worried about it’s full release in the US? there are retail stores and auctioning sites that will allow you to get it easily, wether it’s a higher price or a lower price. (hopefully those in Europe and Australia won’t take advantage of our misfortune)
It’s not really a big deal if it’s sold in your country, being it will always be available somewhere accessible.

Seriously, you’ve got time. I don’t care if you have to delay the release for it. The statue will last more than the days, weeks or months it’d be delayed, if you had to do it in the first place.
Please, bring the Collector’s Edition to the US. Seriously, we’d buy it like crazy if you did.
Signed, everyone from the US who wants it. Which is a lot of people.
P.S. You’ll sell more if you do. If you don’t, who’s gonna buy it? SCALPERS. For us poor folk in the US who’ll have to buy it for amazing amounts of money because we don’t live in the UK. So why not cut out the middleman and send it to us yourselves?
P.P.S. SCALPERS SUCK.

@Kellie – You can easily make everyone happy. How? RELEASE HERE!!! How did anyone at SEGA ever think, “Hey! We got this awesome collector’s edition for Generations! It’s gonna have music, art, collectables, oh. And it’s going to only be in EU and AU.” AU wasn’t even a part of this until a few hours of the original post! WHAT THE HECK?! How did anyone over there think that this was a good idea? Did anyone truly expect all the commetns to be positive? Almost every single one is negative, and the ones that aren’t are bragging from EU! This is the 20th anniversary, and I think it’s in everybody’s best interest that we all get to equally celebrate this great event. After all, we’re all fans of the same hedgehog! Frankly, I think Sonic would be appaled by this if he were real. When you get DEATH THREATS going on in your blog, it should be that point you realize, “Oh shoot! I think we did something wrong!”

LOL. I’m surprised nobody’s brought up scalpers yet. The biggest reason I’m mad at this decision is the fact that- Yeah, I can get it. This is the internet. I can get anything. I could probably get a ballistic nuclear pig-shaped taxi cab if I wanted to. But the thing is, I won’t be paying retail price for it. I’d be paying retail, AND whatever the guy on eBay wants me to pay HIM for it. Now, I’m not mad at third-party legit stores who sell for slightly higher prices to make money, I’m mad at the people who (for argument’s sake) buy a 50 dollar game and then try to sell it to people who can’t get it for 100 dollars or more. And the fans buy it, because the companies won’t sell it to them. That’s a waste of money and just plain wrong.
Please, SEGA. There’s no reason to make this exclusive. Show the fans you love them by selling it to us, and we’ll show you our love by buying it. (Hey, there’s hope- It was originally just EU, Australia was added later!)

Can we at least get a simple explanation as to WHY there won’t be a US version, as far as we know? I’m glad Europe is getting a really cool package, but what about the rest of the world? Is it because there there might not be any profit in this? That can’t be possible. At the very least, have a US version available online for people to pay there, rather then selling it in stores if that’s the issue. I don’t want to sound angry, I’m just so conflicted right now in deciding to buy this online and get it shipped here, just because I happen to love collecting as much Sonic related memorabilia as I possibly can. I have a room dedicated to all this, and I’ve gone far and wide to get a lot of stuff, and this is the perfect item for me, it’s just oh so far from my grasp.

What can I say that hasn’t been said? It’s really a shame (and sad) that SEGA would leave out a solid fan base like America. It’s almost like they don’t care about us. Europe has the biggest following, so just please them. Granted, I’m not saying they shouldn’t release it to European audiences, as that would be more wrong (is that a phrase?) but it’s still wrong to exclude the American fan base, or any fan base for that matter. We’re asking for you to take more of our money than you’d be getting if we just bought the stand alone disc. Not only is that bad business, but it really shows where the American fan base stands. And, let’s be honest, they will just wait for it to blow over and forget about us. Obviously, I’m not blaming Kellie, but I am blaming the higher ups at SoA for not caring about the American fan base. SoA can say “they still love us” or “care about us” or “haven’t forgotten us”, but, as they say, actions speak louder than words.

Sega, you obviously have a lot of interested North Americans (not just the US, but Canada too) who would buy this in a heart beat. Why not offer a limited run on your site, like THQ did for ‘Space Marine’? Heck, the preorders alone from that could pay for it in advance.

Oh, and just to clear something up for the European or Australian fan that just says “You can import it”, put yourselves in our shoes. You know darn well that you wouldn’t want to import, much like we don’t want to because of the shipping costs on top of the cost of the original game and whatever the buyer wants (probably a hundred or so bucks more… people are greedy EVERYWHERE, unfortunately). So, instead of paying 200 dollars, I’d be paying 500-600 dollars, let alone conversion costs, or you’d be paying 500-600 pounds or whatever the currency is (I’m not good with conversion at all). Again, it really shows how much SEGA of America values their fan base. I’m not mad at it being released in Europe and Australia though, not at all. They deserve it just as much. But, as an American, it really hurts to know that we’re being left out. With all the negative comments, you would think that SoA would wise up and release it state side also.

I can understand that an awful lot of people would be upset by the fact that America hasn’t been told they’ll receive a Collector’s Edition of Sonic Generations at this point; every country’s felt the brunt of similar situations more than once. But that’s absolutely no excuse for the amount of petulant and impertinent behaviour exerted over something as trivial as a fancy statue, a book, a CD/DVD and a little gold ring. Granted, this is quite a big thing for something like the Sonic franchise, what with it being the blue blur’s 20th and all, but that’s no excuse regardless.
Everyone should at least bear in mind that this was only announced 24 hours ago, and there’s still a little less than a month left until Generations is actually released – in that time SEGA could just as easily announce that America – and other parts of the globe for that matter – will receive its’ own Collector’s Edition, it’s nothing to get frustrated over. I’m sure that you chaps in America will get a fair bit more than what you expect at this point. I know that most of the fans of the blue blur are upset over this now; hell, odds are the fans that reside in Europe and Australia – myself included – would be pissed if this were the other way round, but the countries that were initially expected to get nothing have always wound up getting something in the end, once release day came around. Just keep the faith, and if you don’t get the same things or not quite as much as we did, at least be grateful that you got anything to begin with and be happy with the things you have.
@Kellie – As with other people from the fanbase, you have my empathy for having to deal with the amount of unnecessary drama, death threats, f-bombs, etc. that have been brought on by this announcement and people’s petulant reactions to not being able to have a few things that other parts of the world get. Alas, as you said, it’s a part of your job and as troublesome and stressing as it is, jobs have to be done with as level a head as possible. So in that regard, kudos to you.

Tracker_TD, PLEASE don’t tell me you were being serious.
First, the Sonic Anniversary Ts (Insert Coin or something of the like produces them?) is a UK product, and the only way someone from America can get one is to pay an insane amount for shipping. And regardless, Insert Coin (or whatever the company is called) is in charge of importing regardless.
20th anniversary figures, yes, is available only in America (as far as I know), but again, that’s not up to SEGA. Purely up to Jazwares and whatever retailers they’d want their products at.
We have ONE soundtrack on iTunes (Sonic Colors). Every other CD we have to import to own legally, and again, shipping costs.
Statues…. ? I’m honestly unaware of there being Sonic statues. Feel free to prove me wrong, but I’ve never seen one.
Granted, the fan base is poorly represented for a WHOLE different reason entirely, but how are we acting like spoiled brats exactly? America hasn’t seen anything like this (as it regards to Sonic. Don’t know about other franchises, but I don’t really pay attention). We got left out, and a huge chunk of the fan base is here.

Pay an insane amount for shipping eh? So you can’t afford $0.00? Shipping worldwide is free from insert coin… so you might want to look up your excuses next time.
20th Anniversary figures are upto Sega, they issue the license to Jazwares for distribution within the USA only, they’re not allowed to distribute them anywhere else, which is why they have to pay a seperate distributor who does have the rights to sell Sonic toot in the EU or and other territories.
Just thought I’d correct you on a number of mistakes there.

Wow! In 24 hours the comments on this page have more than doubbled! I think it’s a sign of how much all of us love Sonic! That’s the only reason we’re all flipping out on this issue. We all want to celibrate the blue blur’s 20th in the ultimate way we can! I realize that it’s cool for Europe to get something we all don’t since they always seem to get the short end of the stick. But for the US to get nothing?! It kinda seems like we’re being told we’re not as big fans as everyone in Europe! I don’t think that’s fair to lable us like that. I’ve played just about EVERY Sonic game released, and loved them all. And I know there are many fans who are just the same in the rest of the world!
We’re all on the same side here, cause we all love Sonic. So I don’t think this is the way to do it. A world wide release would be the way to go. Come on Sega! I think it’s obvious from this MASSIVE stack of comments that ALL of us (not just the people in Europe) want this!

It’s surprising that there is so much debate on where this title is being released. Several countries get games months after they’re released in the US, UK and Japan. Some don’t even get the option of a “Collector’s Edition”. Well Done to Sega for always trying to keep Sonic constant throughout the Gaming Revolution and I sincerely hope that I have the privilege of buying such a collection, on condition that it is released in my country someday (South Africa). Also, if you are a true fan to the Sonic Franchise, then the country of release shouldn’t matter. What should matter, is whether the game lives up to the hype. If not, then at least Sega includes other great extras to keep you occupied whilst you whine on blogs and forums about how horrible the game is. Thanks again Sega.

Oh, you’re right. I had no idea that Insert Coin had free worldwide shipping. I’m just so used to those insane amounts of shipping costs, i just totally jumped the gun and assumed.
And really? SEGA controls them? That’s wrong of them not to include Europe on the 20th Anniversary figures also. It seems they are so determined to keep the continents separate so they can have their own “bragging” rights to exclusives, they forget that no one likes exclusives to countries (with exceptions.) EVERYONE wants to be in on the celebration, but they always want to leave someone out.
Hey, if anyone wants to do a trade, I’ll gladly buy you all the Jazware figures (Sonic Through the Time and the Sonic & Robots pack) for the Special Edition. I’ll even include as much Sonic merch 200 dollars can buy (only fair. 200 dollars for 200 dollars).

Sure that stuff looks awesome but peel back the layer of awesome and what do you get: a couple of figurines that will most likely break, a gold ring that may not even be real gold and will most likely be stolen, two CDs that will end up scratched and useless. A documentary, really? Not really worth the money it'll cost. And I live in the US but I could care less for less than worthy merchandise!

@Trevor Some of us collectors are actually capable of, you know, taking care of our stuff. CDs don’t spontaneously scratch, and I have plenty of valuable collectors items that are safe, secure, and decidedly not stolen.

There are two things that might be happening: a) SEGA of America are being complete idiots and don’t care about the fanbase. Or b) They’re being really smart and creating consumer demand. I hope it’s the latter.

Aww…
The ONE BLOODY TIME that I see and WANT a “Collector’s Addition” version of the game available… and it’s only in Europe and Australia?
I think I’m going to cry… -sniff-… PLEASE LET ME FIND A WAY TO OBTAIN THIS; I honestly would buy this, if I could.
20-Year Soundtrack? Want it.
20-Year Figurine? REALLY want it!
20-Year Art Book/History of Sonic Documentary? REALLY REALLY want them!!!
Please, hear my plea, Sega; I just let this be available to my little Texan self and I WILL give you my business for it, and for future releases. Honest!

Well, looks like our pleas fell on deaf ears… (no offense to all you working there at SEGA.)
1) Who cares if you have to pay a big shipping price? If it has all of this, it’s worth it.
2) Yes, I’m aware that it includes the game and DLC, but not using it makes it even more valuable.
3) Have to pay for an extra copy of the game along with an extra DLC pack? Whats the big deal? That money is earned in a weeks time no less.
4) Complaining that they might brag about getting it while we are left out? Go ahead and whine, we’ve done it more than enough times.
5) Hate what I’m saying? Haters gonna hate. Especially when they know I’m right.

@MegaRevolution1 Yeah, you act like it’s cake. Honestly, it isn’t. I’ve got a job, and I’ve got my own stuff to pay for- Gas, college, etc. And it’s not easy to come up with 200-250 dollars just on the spot, especially for an import, which would mean I then have to buy the game and DLC separately, (because I have an Xbox 360 and the last time I checked, those are region-locked, as is the DLC) which is 60+ dollars in and of itself. Not to mention I’d rather see this widely available so I can, y’know, go to a store and buy it.
So… yeah. My point still stands.

@Ben the Hedgehog, Sorry, but I must point out one tiny error you made.
In your post, you stated the following:
“@MegaRevolution1
Yeah, not all of us are made of money.”
As well as: “@MegaRevolution1 Yeah, you act like it’s cake. Honestly, it isn’t. I’ve got a job, and I’ve got my own stuff to pay for- Gas, college, etc. And it’s not easy to come up with 200-250 dollars just on the spot, especially for an import,”
While in a later reasoning post, you stated this:
” Not to mention I’d rather see this widely available so I can, y’know, go to a store and buy it.”
If you are truly standing by your previous comments, how could you afford it at a store, and not afford it through import, where at most sites, shipping is only around a dollar or so?

@MegaRevolution1
Oh, if it were just the shipping that’d be a different story.
Let’s, for argument’s sake, say this is priced at 100 dollars retail. (Or the euro equivalent, dunno about conversion rates and that’d just confuse the issue further.) Seller’s probably, firstoff, jack up the price to 150-200, since it’s EU exclusive and US people, natch, have to pay more. Add another five-ten for shipping because this is no small lightweight letter this guy’s sending, it’s a BIG COLLECTOR’S EDITION. And then I have a Collector’s Edition for a game I can’t play because, y’know, US. Region locked Xbox 360. Sooo tack on another 60 for the new Sonic game, and another ten for the DLC.
Now remember, most of these numbers are arbitrary and I doubt any one of them will be exact. But what I’m saying is that it’s no small feat, or cost, to get this imported. Seriously, if it were so easy and so cheap, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
And what the heck did you ever send or buy that wasn’t a letter that had one-dollar shipping?! Send me a link, I wanna buy that! Whatever it is.

@ Ben – If you get in now, you’ll pay the same price as people in the UK and only a $20 shipping fee. That’s the only difference between the UK having them and the US getting them – $20.

I missed out on the stuff that came out for Sonics 15th, so when I saw this picture and read about all the stuff included, one thought popped into my head. PREORDER!!!! But major low blow to the release. I know that games get released to different countries on different dates. Thats not really anything we as customers can control; that’s the game developers decision. But to not release this amazing collectors edition of one of the most popular icons in gaming; you have disappointed a huge fan base here in the US.
If I go into a store. lets say Spencers gifts or Hot Topic, (and not even looking for it) I will see Sonic merchandise, and will more than likely buy all the different products offered. In one visit to a store, I bought 3 plushes, one lanyard, a set of shot glasses, and an aluminium water bottle. I am pretty sad that I will miss out on this collectors dream.

First off, can I just clarify to all of the people in the North American continent that UK =/= Europe and Australia. Europe is a continent with quite a number of countries in it. It’s NOT just the UK.
Secondly, while I agree that it is unfair for certain regions to only get items, who’s to say Sega won’t announce a package for the US? On top of which, the US has, for many a year now, gotten games earlier. The figure we got with Colours, most people never received (at least here in the UK). I would have loved one of the Sonic hats instead. The US has frequently had pre-order incentives and the like with their games that the Europeans don’t even get to see.
If anything, why not complain about Japan? They get everything first, and get loads of merchandise, and get limited editions, and all of this. There’s no sense in kicking up a stink on this blog just because you’re not getting your own way.

DVD and Bluray are region coded, I know as I almost preordered a bluray from Japan then read up about that, however most laptops support different region DVDs.
Btw I have a problem here, Amazon.co.uk has the release date set 30th of Nov for all versions of this game, I know its only the 3DS version getting released on that date, and I’ve been attempting to tell Amazon that it is suppose to be released on the 4th, and now they’ve set the dispatch date to 27th Nov, I really don’t want to be waiting a whole month for this, and have been trying to fix this problem by contacting Amazon but the last email just replied with 30th of Nov is the release date for all versions and I know thats a lie =/
Hopefully by typing this here, Sega will see it and probably contact Amazon.co.uk themselves about this mistake.

If you go to the “Sonic” page here and scroll down, you will see the announcement of a 20th anniversary figuruine, one for the US, and one that is different for the rest of the world. If my thought is to be correct, the US version of it will be unveiled in the US Collectors Edition for Sonic Generations. Just gotta wait and see…

I’m an Australian and I really don’t want to be the bearer of bad news for the US readers, However I should point out that if anyone in the US is planning on importing the CE edition from Australia you better be prepared to pay one hell of a premium for it. Newly released games usually retail for about $80-100 dollars for Standard Editions alone down here in Australia. The major gaming stores already have The Sonic Generations Collectors Edition on their web sites, they have it retailing for about AU$169 dollars. Take into consideration the Conversion to US dollars and Shipping and Handling, you’d find to import the CE from Australia will most likely cost about $180-200 dollars alone, from a reputable retailer.

I noticed a lot of people are demanding Kellie to explain why Sega has chosen not to have a US release for this. Yes, as a US fan, I am upset about this, and I don’t trust the market enough for an import (there was that scalper issue that some people have brought up). My only choice, really, is to deal. And deal I will.
But the thing that amazes me is that, well… has it occurred to anyone on this comment page that Kellie is likely bound by a non-disclosure agreement, thus preventing her from elaborating on the things that so many people are demanding to know? She kind of implied it here, even:
“I can’t comment on that issue, but did want to acknowledge that I saw your question.”
If you haven’t gotten an answer, that’s probably the reason she hasn’t answered.

I ordered it and i live in america, go to Mightyape.co.nz, they still have the collecters edition for the 360 but if your looking the ps3 version there its already sold out (i got it for the ps3 just before it sold out) but yeah its gonna cost 215.99 NZD which in the US would converse over to 183.12 USD so gonna be pricey but it depends on how much you think its worth. But I await infront of my door for the package to arrive
PS: Ordering from that website i suggest using paypal to order it from the US cause they have online banking but only through NZ banks but i think they take an American Express (at least i think but never hurts to double check)
PSS: Again ordering from this website it’ll take a couple days to ship (they get stock november 3rd and ship the 4th) and i believe it takes 10-15 days so gotta be extremely patient.

@ Tikitiwa I want it for the PS3 but that’s starting to look grim
@ Jamey Thanks for the info! That was really useful! I really want the PS3 version but if I can’t find it then I’m definitely going to buy the 360 version before they’re all sold out. Amazon.co.uk is completely sold out for both consoles. Time is running out! T__T

@ Aozora Fox Yeah unfortunately Amazon.uk doesn’t do over seas shipping :/ but your best bet is is to try for mightyape.co.nz if you want a 360 version but i don’t know if it would play on a US 360 cause I know PS3 is region free but good luck to ya I hope you get it

@ Aozora Fox
Not sure if its gonna be any help but you could try JBHifi.com.au and ebgames.com.au
JB Hifi are selling the CE online only and state they’ll ship internationally, EB Games have the CE however they state that they’ll ship internationally at their discretion. Both are retailing for about 170 so once again it’ll be a hefty investment if you want it. Also I cannot guarantee if they have any left for PS3 but I would assume JB Hifi might.

I saw this on xbl just a few min ago, went to read up on it to see that there was going to be a Collector’s Edition. Then I noticed that it isn’t being released in the North American region. I think I’ll pass on this game as a whole now.

Is there any way I can buy the Collector’s Edition without using an online source? I’m from Europe but I’m not familiar with sites like eBay etc. On the day of the game’s release, will it be available in stores like, say, GAME, GameStation or HMV? I’d very much appreciate an answer, thanks!

@Kellie: Nearly a month has passed since this blog was created, and I was wondering if there is any change on availability of the Collectors Edition via retail? All options lead to online and some of us have no ways or means of purchasing it this way.
Like @Dannyboy (post #355), I too live in the UK and am looking for similar options – purchase from local stores such as GAME or GameStation (already registered my interest at GS and check GAME’s hotsheets, but there is still no listing, except GAME’s Exclusive edition).
Seeing the CE sell out all over the place is leaving some of us very anxious.. An update would be greatly appreciated! ^_^
Thanks,
L

@Liana Copland thanks for backing me up on this one, it’s good to know I’m not the only person not savy with online shopping.
@Kellie I am a huge Sonic fan from Europe and, like the whole American Fanbase, I’m pulling my hair out wondering if I will ever have the opportunity to get my hands on a Collector’s Edition. I’m at the point where the standard edition just won’t do it for me, and as a loyal fan I’d feel cheated having to settle while I could have something that my family and I can cherish as a real celebration of Sonic’s roots.
Will Sonic Generations Collectors Edition eventually be available via retail?
Is it possible that this question could be answered sometime soon? It’s obvious that there are other fans out there asking this same question and I’m sure we would all really appreaciate it
Once again thanks for taking the time to read

I agree with both opinions in this mess here. xD True american sonic fans deserves this too, but true sonic fans would like order this from sonic like europe also does with a lot of stuff. I always import sonic comics and figurines from the usa even while it sometimes costs the double as when I would have lifed in us.
Anyway whatever reason you have to not or do want to make it available in us, I think sega has their own reasons to do this.
Anyway, I have just made my pre-order. €130 (/173$ for the us readers) at gamemania in the netherlands.
Ps> Wii/Ps2 Owners, please stop asking and save up money for a newer console. (Save up for the next generation // wii U if you wanna play it smart)
Same with PC, I’m happy sonic generations gets in consoles with less piracy people.

@Daz – Problem is, we don’t really know if the Collectors Edition is limited (as in there will only be a select number of copies released) or mass-produced. We can only hope at this point that there will be enough copies due to be released to give everyone a fair chance to get their hands on a Collector’s Edition, instead of just catering to those who are first to pre-order. Either way, I’m determined to get this edition, even if i have to buy it pre-owned after someones nibbled the sonic figure and left sweaty handprints on the disks before deciding they dont want it

Wow, seeing all the blog responses about this game it just goes to show that after 20 long years Sonic the Hedgehog is STILL an important character in the gaming world, if not, the MOST important character!
The way we are all getting drip-fed information about this game – like classic/dreamcast/modern era trailers and whether or not it will be available on the PC, I think there are goin to be even bigger announcements throughout these 28 days before release.
Im just hoping that SEGA have decided to build up this hype and anxiety in fans until the very last moment before release, where they will reveal the decision to release a Collectors Edition available everywhere in the world, on every single modern console, for every single fan, because SEGA should know by now that this is a product in VERY high demand!!
If not, then oh well… its good to dream

We wait patiently for absolutely everything. So i think its only fitting that we get the eclusive CE of this game. However, stop your whining, chances are you will get something of equal amazingness before you know it!
So yeah, rant over!

Will you UK guys stop your “We never get anything first! We deserve this more than you!” Crap? That’s a bunch of bull. You guys got a Sonic Colors (sorry, “Colours”) special edition last year. All we got was a hat. Granted, that was pretty cool, you still shouldn’t be so selfish. We all deserve this equally. We’re all Sonic fans here and this is his 20th anniversary. SEGA is obviously doing something here, maybe testing the waters (even though they’re taking too freaking long!). But they should be fair here. This exclusive release and excessive arguing isn’t.

Just wanted to thank you again for screwing all of us from the United States again. Seriously way to go. People in the US helped support the awful Sonic games you shipped out in the last decade and now they you’ve finally got the formula for an amazing game correct, you forget about us. Thank you.

Hi SEGA,
I want to thank you, because when I am seeing so many americans writing “you forget about us” and “We never did anything to you!” I am just happy.
But serious, US guys, are you sick? You’re always getting so many cool limited edition games and everything, and this is the EUROPE who was always izolated from this fantastic stuff. Now it’s finally changing and European Countries also can get limited edition games and really limited, not just getting some extras in game, but things like figures, artbooks, soundtracks etc.
Thank you SEGA for doing this, for giving Europe a chance to get something limited, and really cool limited, since this set is one of the best I’ve seen. Unfortunately I couldn’t get this since it was sold out, but still hope I get this somewhere, even for very high price.
And thank you for making such great Sonic game.
Greetings from Poland

Just one more thing:
Those who don’t know why isn’t it for WII. I heard that it is because Sonic Generations has HD Graphics, and WII just doesn’t support HD, so unfortunately. But it’s good that we have sonic colours, which is also the great game, and probably we’ll get some other Sonic game in future ;] (fortunately I’ve got my old X360 and Wii)
