Don’t forget Championship Circuit Edition (and it’s soundtrack) and Daytona 2 (since that still hasn’t had a home release)…
I still refuse to buy Sonic 4, but Sega’s doing a good job of pushing all my other Classic Sega buttons lately lol
Next: Space Harrier?

@eastofeastside – Did those come next on Saturn? I’ll assume that’s correct, thanks for the info!

Ah yes, and Virtua Racing!! The 32x version was the best… Time Warner had some good ideas with the Saturn version but the gameplay itself was horrid :c

Thanks Sega! This game brings back a lot of memories. My late uncle who worked at the Daytona Speedway back in the day really was really impressed with this game.

@clumsyorchid- Will you guys patch in support for the Logitech/Fanatech stick shifts? It’s not the same without one.
Even with that caveat, Sega can shut up and take my money. Daytona 2 next, please!

Virtua Racing debuted on 32X and later the Saturn port. Both are very far from the arcade original in quality. A version of Virtua Racing was released for the Sega Ages collection on PS2, Japan only years later.
Sega Rally – Saturn, subsequent versions like Sega Rally 2, Sega Rally 3, Sega Rally Revo, and recently Sega Rally Online Arcade don’t quite capture the original’s glory and charm making a rerelease of the arcade original a worthwhile venture by Sega.
Scud Race aka Super GT and Daytona USA have never been released outside the arcades.
The likely success of Daytona USA make looking into porting these worthwhile.

These xbox and playstation people dont deserve daytona usa or any sega classics. if they where real daytona fans they would all have the working daytona usa emulated on the pc not just waiting for a proper release when they could of played it 4 years ago on proper arcade emulation.

Virtua Racing debuted in arcades; there was a Genesis (MD) version with an additional processor on the cart’s PCB to allow 3D graphics; It was a relatively faithful port, but the hardware limitations were very obvious
Virtua Racing Deluxe was released on the 32X with two more car classes (Stock and Prototype), two more tracks (Highland and Sand Park), FAR better graphics (polygon count, color palette, framerate), better handling and gameplay physics (I personally loved the Stock car the most, because you didn’t instantaneously spin-out if you bumped a car in front of you), and some of the music bits were extended.
The Saturn version was done by Time Warner and despite having even more car classes, a ton of really neat tracks, and much more power to work with, the game was just abysmal. No sense of speed, all the cars were stiff and irritating to drive, they couldn’t streamline the graphics code so you got stuck with slowdown in pivotal moments (with only flat-shaded polygons, no less. Sega’s AM2 division should have overseen production)… there’s a laundry list of problems with it.
I have that Sega Classics collection for PS2 (North American release, it included VR Flatout)- and I still remember thinking I’d rather play the 32x one even the first day I loaded the disc :/ THe remake of Outrun was pretty lame too…
The best home version of Virtua Racing is the 32X one. I wish there were some kind of special edition that had all the cars and tracks from each variation of the game, but played like the 32X version; I wonder if Sega can still assign certain people to projects now that they’ve consolidated their old production houses…
Now if we can just get more people to remember Sega TouringCar Championship ;_;

I’ll admit, the second I saw the gameplay, I thought we simply got a console port of “Sega Racing Classic” (a recent HD re-release of the Daytona arcade without the Daytona license, and altered soundtrack for those unfamiliar), but with the said license and original soundtrack returning, which is still great.
But unlike Sega Racing Classic, we get 8 player multiplayer (SRC reduced it to 4 I heard) and it looks like the draw distance has actually been improved. Graphics are still 1993 but I prefer that over a change of style.
“also available in Karaoke Mode”
Oh c’mon, everyone who’s been with this game since the 90′s know the lyrics by heart now =) *wonders if the Karaoke is the arcade soundtrack or Saturn arrangement*
Now I’ve gotta prepare the X360′s custom soundtrack feature – can’t have less than three different versions of The King of Speed, Let’s Go Away, Sky High and the underrated Pounding Pavement to play with.

I hate being so pessimistic but what version are we getting here? This doesn’t like the newly released Sega Racing Classic. It looks more like an updated Saturn/PC port to me. Or it could be the arcade version didn’t look as good as I remember.

It’s certainly great to see the game being released on XBLA with online multiplayer and I won’t hesitate to buy it. That said, it would be nice to see some more graphical updates. I doubt people that don’t know the original are going to accept that the game looks so much worse compared to other XBLA race games such as Sega Rally Online.

Thanks a bunch for this announcement! Seriously stoked.
I’m really glad Sega has cozied up to the promise of digital distribution for reviving their arcade classics. However, if more of the oldies could be resurrected by other developers, I’m dying to see the AM divisions focus their energy on console games again. The Sega style lies with them, and it bums me out to see their designs withering away in the arcades. How many of us actually had a chance to play After Burner Climax until it hit XBLA and PSN?

It’s GREAT that we get to see a perfect arcade port of the game, complete with full 8-player support. Just like the good ol’ days! Just like Dave & Buster’s!
Now, I second the notion that Daytona USA 2 (any version) make it to PSN/XBL as well. This game has never made it to home consoles! I think Sega would make a LOT of people happy if Daytona 2 made it home!

Amazing. I got it now, and all i can say is, it lived up to what i’d expected, and then threw in some more surprised. Love the time trials ofcourse, but the mode where passing cars, drifting trough corners, and drive clean laps gives you extra time. I never could make it trough the full 80 laps that’s on the screen before you start, but still, lots of fun.
Also it seems like they have improved the controlls a lot, as i have never been able to finish this game, and now i can! Even with manual transmission. Great work Sega!
Now please give us Scud race, and ofcourse Daytona USA 2! Oh, and the first two Sega Rally games would be nice to, ofcourse all arcade versions.
Oh, and while i’m at it, i would pay the same price for OutRun, Turbo OutRun, and OutRunners! Come on, take my money! LOL.
