Play Sonic 1 in X360 & PS3 Versions of Sonic GenerationsBy now, you know that Sonic Generations has a lot of old-school goodness in it, from the classic characters to the iconic levels of past games. But did you know that you could play the original Sonic the Hedgehog game (aka Sonic 1) from within Generations? You do now! This port of Sonic 1 will be available in the X360 and PS3 versions of Sonic Generations, but you’ll have to earn it! When you complete each level, you’ll get points. Save up your points and then go to the Skill Shop, where you can purchase the “SEGA Genesis Controller”, which will allow you to access and play Sonic 1. You can also spend your points to get infinite continues for Sonic 1. Even more reasons to be excited for Sonic Generations, which is out on November 1st in North America and November 4th in Europe!

Seriously? A genesis controller to unlock Sonic 1?
Whatever happened to the real original Sonic 1 on the console that made it famous?
Still loving the new game, but I just don’t get this…

Is there anything different about this port compared to the ones already available on 360 and PS3? Or will this basically be the same emulation as before? Not that it will keep me from buying Generations either way, it just would be neat if there was something special here!

Some questions:
1) Is this the version of the game with the spike bug fixed, unlockable in Mega Collection and playable by default in Mega Collection Plus?
2) I’d like to buy spindash for Sonic 1 at the in-game shop. Any chance this is a secret item? ;D

A few questions.
1) Will this have anything unlockable, such as spindash or super peelout?
2) Will it have stuff from later games like save files, level select, or super sonic?
3) Is this the only unlockable game, or will you have more like Sonic 2, 3, and Knuckles, or 3D Blast?

@Private Joker – Not sure I get what you’re saying here. Sonic 1 was originally available on the Genesis. Unless you’re nitpicking about whole Mega Drive/Genesis naming thing, in which case what does it really matter?

@Marcus when SEGA announced the PC version, they mentioned it will be exactly alike the console version, meaning you get this feature as well.

Will the 3DS or PC have anything like this? And now I can see why you didn’t realese this on the Wii.
1. The Wii has no HD graphics.
2. The Wii is enduring it’s final moments and you’d be more likely to realese this for the Wii U (next year).

Eh, not to sound unappreciative, but other sites have already reported this. It’s a great addition, though. I’m surprised there isn’t an official Sonic Generations website like Japan has with loads of goodies like wallpapers and images. What’s up with that?

I suppose CD won’t be in as you want to sell that separately, but yeah, it should have the genesis games.
Also rewards usable for the main game after you beat the ports.

What a joke. I mean, cool idea and everything, but most Sonic fans already own the classics in some way, shape, or form. All of you who whine about PC not having this should just STFU right now, cause Steam had a deal where they gave you Sonic 3 & Knuckles, AND Sonic 3D Blast. If you want any of the other classics that damn badly, then spend the $5 for each one or better yet just get the old Sonic Mega Collection game.

This comment doesn’t belong here, but where else would I put this statement? I think for next Generation consoles (XBOX NeXt, PS4, WiiU, etc.) Sega should make a 3rd installment in the adventure series, but NOT a Sonic Adventure 3. Make Sonic Adventure Origins, that a way you can explain what happens between Sonic 4 and Adventure 1! Give Sonic his momentum based platforming back, with Generations speed at the same time! But make it where you have to break the sound barrier to go faster like in Sonic Advanced series. Turn slide into a spin animation to make it look like he’s rolling, and use the Unreal engine 4! (With cell shading) Anyone agree?

Not that I don’t like Sonic 1 or anything (’cause I do), but wouldn’t it be better to save content of the game for more NEW levels, instead of remaking games a lot of us already own? Then again, this would be a good introduction for the new Sonic fans to the classics, so it’s not all bad… and I’m gonna get this game either way! NOVEMBER IS TOO FAR AWAY!!! DURRR!!!
