Sonic Generations Collector’s Edition – UnboxingSonic Generations is out in Europe tomorrow, and we know many of you are eagerly awaiting your games along with the Collector’s Edition. To show you what you’re getting, we asked Svend Joscelyne from Sonic Stadium (and Summer of Sonic organizer) to come to the SEGA offices in London and unbox it for you.
Thanks to Svend for doing the unboxing, and to everyone who has purchased Sonic Generations!

Can we get a straight answer on why there is no US version? I had to import which is no big deal, but it’s still so odd that we get a nice celebration package for Sonic to celebrate the 20 years…….and it’s only available in Europe. Being a US Sonic fan is never easy; let’s not make it any worse.

If you’re in the US order from Amazon.de (Amazon’s German site) use Google Chrome to translate the page pretty well. I was able to order mine. It is expensive though, and you do get charged for shipping. Also remember currency conversions and other fees that may apply. My order says ‘Shipping soon’. I’m still very disappointed this wasn’t available in the US. But then again Sonic’s home country didn’t even get a set like this, so I have no idea why.

I was so sad when I found out that this collector’s edition wasn’t available in the States..first Square-Enix only releases the Special Editions of Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy IV Complete in Europe only, and now Sonic Generations Special Edition is released only in Europe. Why is it that the only Special Editions worth getting in America are for frickin’ Shooters (I hate Shooters)? I really, really wanted that figure(s)!

We in USA are serious Sonic The Hedgehog Fans too. And for the people in UK, well actually you are rubbing it in you faces. I guess UK people don’t realize that like ALL the comics ever made are only submitted in UK or China (never in the USA). We barely get anything and you and China get tons of stuff. The whole world should get this Sega and thats counting the USA, UK, China, Asia, South America and so on. Besides, Sega WHY does is UK just getting it, huh?

I think people forget this is now the joint US and Europe SEGA Blog now. SEGA isn’t trying to rub it in the face of you US folks. Besides, the option to import is and has been there. Amazon Germany, the Australian sites listing it and probably some other EU retailers stocking it all ship to the US and other countries.

Wow I kinda wish we had the option for a collector’s edition over here too, but I’m not rebuying the game at this point.
Why not make the art book and soundtrack/dvd available as a separate purchase from the website or something? I remember a lot of never-before-seen concept artwork showing up on Sonic CulT like 7 years ago and it was really fantastic to see some of the early designs… I love that kind of stuff. And the music in the game is great, I’m superbly impressed with what I’ve heard thus far (REALLY surprised by a Chaotix and Saturn 3D Blast remix that snuck their way into the game 😉 )
Sega could make it up to us by doing some future DLC of more re-imagined levels ;D I’ve loved the new perspective/interpretations… Maybe we can take a trip through Botanic Base, Robotnik Winter, Digital Circuit/Mad Matrix, or any other levels from the more common games
At least fix some of the buggy controls in certain places, the spike powerup in Planet Wisp Act 1 (Classic mode) has single-handedly been the most irritating thing I’ve encountered thus far, and the jerky start/stop, jumping, and spindash transitions in Classic mode have cost me on more than one occasion :/ I hope we might see an update for the game sometime soon to patch a few things..

Wow wasn’t expecting a gigure THAT big, can’t wait for this and hoping its as great as it looks as I’ve had to buy two copies of this game for PS3 😀 Why? well amazon uk sold out before pay-day and who could live without Sonic G after release date? So I got a collectors from Aus and a standard from amazon
and I defenetly wont be trading a copy back in, more than happy to give Sega some love… just make sure its a good game 😀
Thank you so much Sega for this and while I’m at it, Yakuza DS/Binary Domain are looking sweet too, great to be a PS3 gamer who loves Sega right now, so Dayatona and Sonic CD right around the corner then?

Wow. . . I’m in Australia and as such already have the Collectors Edition and even I think this is cruel. There is no way you could not expect Americans to get angry by this as you’ve effectively (I know someone has already said this) rubbed salt in the wound by posting this video, the signs pointing to such were easily evident in the last blog post made regarding the CE.
That aside I do have a question regarding the gold ring. the dome is effectively sealed shut so I can’t tell, Is it gold plated or what?

I’m renting it today, can’t decide whether I want the console version or the 3DS version more, the console version has more levels I like, but the 3DS version will let me play with friends online which is definitely a bonus… So I’m going to rent the console version to try it out. Are you guys going to release more Dreamcast era levels as DLC? I started my Sonic experience with Sonic Adventure and it’s still my favorite game in the series-as well as favorite game of all time. I wanna see Lost World remade, or Sky Deck!

I for one am glad I got the pre-order in on Amazon.co.uk before the PS3 version sold out and for 25% less than the MSRP. Already shipped and on its way to the U.S.
To the angry Americans, understand that Europe is usually the one on the outside looking in with neat video game stuff. Also understand that, in terms of support, Sega and Sonic have had much stronger followings in Europe than the U.S. largely due to the success generated by the Master System and Mega Drive when Nintendo failed to show up on time with the NES and its almost criminal handling of releases for the SNES and N64.
Let them have something very nice for once.

First of all, US got the game itself earlier than Europe.
Secondly, population of Europe is over two times bigger than the population of United States. If they had to choose one region, they’ve chosen the bigger one.

“Why not America?” you ask? Well, if you guys remember, when Sonic had hit 10th Anniversary, Sega America sold the jap. Statue, Prism Cube and Ring on their website, with NO international ordering option. So all I can say is, Ha-HA, now you see how this feels to be excluded out… which we Europeans had to endure for so many times over so many years.
Yes, I’m mean. 😉

Wow, this is a debate that’s been going on for a while… My thoughts:
I’m from America, so I couldn’t get it. Honestly, I would be happy for those that got this awesome pack, but their being total jerks about it, and braging rather than being nice about it (with the exception of comment #40, dude you are awesome).
I’m not saying you guys got everything we didn’t, because people in America get a LOT that you guys don’t. I just think you guys need to forget your pride, get your heads out of your rears, and listen: You can be a Sonic fan anywhere in the world. I would NEVER want to live in the only reigon where something like this is available, because I’d want everyone from any reigon to prove their a fan of this series.
My big question though is more directed at SEGA: How is it a good marketing tactic to give only a FEW of your fans an awesome package!? You know it would sell very well in other reigons, and you absolutely CANNOT tell me that one of the most successful game development companies ever wouldn’t be able to fund this!?
I’ll be satisfyed with whatever answer you give me but I want to know: How do you as a company benefit from only giving this to some reigons?

Would be nice to know as people with high ethical standards also game & putting money towards a product that contains animal materials is intolerable.

@Vlad – it is made from only the finest spines of the rare and elusive blue hedgehog.

I would have gladly paid for the collector’s edition. I have been a Sonic fan since I was a kid Seriously, I grew up wearing the clothes, the shoes, I carried the school folders, binders, which I still own, mind you. I used the lunch box, have bought every single Sonic game. If Sonic was on it, you bet I had it. And probably still do. Hell, when I was 7, I got my parents to get someone to paint a 4 foot Sonic on my wall next to my bed.
I’m dedicated. From America. Want this collector’s edition.
But that aside, brilliant game. Brings modern Sonic gameplay into a whole new light. I expect more just like it.

Its sad that there arent any US or JAP versions. For the record I myself am in Europe and ordered it. There are some very strange things around this game. It baffles me why there are just like 12000 copies out there(if ring numbering indication is correct), that is less than one per million people .It would have been easy money for Sega if they had released say 10 or 50 times more . Not to give them funny ideas, but I honestly think they could as well sold every copy for 500 bucks and would sold out pretty well, Seing how people from EUROPE are bidding 230 euro on the game at ebay(the seller was shipping only in europe), while its still avaliable at amazon … weird…
Also I want Sonic & Knuckles in Plastic box !!! no cheapass cardboard
