See Sonic in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day ParadeIn the US, Thanksgiving day is almost here! If you’re looking for something to do while your turkey is cooking, look no further… Sonic will be flying down the streets of New York City in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade! Sonic will be the first giant balloon to float down the streets, kicking off the parade (If you’re watching from home, he should be on television at 10:01 a.m.). This is actually Sonic’s second time in the parade — he was the first video game character to be in the parade back in 1993, and now he’s back for his 20th anniversary. Over the past 20 years, Sonic has evolved as one of gaming’s greatest icons, with his blue body and unforgettable spikes being recognized worldwide as a symbol of speed, adventure and fun. On Thanksgiving, the Sonic balloon will sky rocket into the atmosphere with massive blue spikes, his signature white gloves and red shoes, shining in the sun. For his parade return, Sonic will measure approximately 48-feet tall, 60-feet long, and 26-feet wide, solidifying his presence, once again, as a historic character in the 2011 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade line-up. The 85th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade airs across the United States on NBC-TV, Thursday, November 24, 2011 from 9:00 am – Noon, in all time zones. See more photos of the Sonic balloon on our Flickr.

@Mufasa:
There’s still Sonic CD!
The 20th Anniversary isn’t over yet!
Also, let’s make sure there are no meddling lampposts this time around! XD

Woo! He’ll be on at 10:01 AM!! That’s the exact info I’ve been looking for. Too bad I’ll be on the road at that time. I’ve got my VCR set.
They say this is his second appearance? I know for a fact I saw him in the 1995 Macy’s parade. 16 years I’ve waited to see him again!!!

@Connor Oud:
The balloon is not Sonic Adventure 2, you can just look at the shoes and tell. Son’s SA2 shoes have an upside down U impression to help grind on the rails. Looks cooler too

Well, I guess it would make sense for him to be the first baloon, cause the other baloons are “Too Slolw!”

Macy’s Parade on TV SUCKS BIG TIME! Don’t get to see any floats or balloons, just stupid dancing and singing crap in front of Macy’s Store!!!!!!!!!! Whatever happened to watching the PARADE????? I switched to Chicago, at least they show the floats and bands and balloons!!!!

I agree with Becky. Live in Baton Rouge I wanted to see the baloons, bands and the parade buy did not see but a few. Turned it off. Talked to my sister in Denver and she said the same thing. Turned it off. What a shame to ruin a great parade.

I’m watching the parade right now and I was so delighted to see the Sonic balloon not only in the parade but at the FRONT of the line no less!!! I have no idea how you guys did it, but the first character balloon! This is the best Thanksgiving Parade ever. Just thought you guys should know that you made this SEGA fan very, very, very happy. <3
