Sonic CD – Developer DiaryYou’ve read the recent postings about Metal Sonic and Amy in Sonic CD. Now we’re happy to debut a full 5 minute video featuring Sonic Team Art Director Kazuyuki Hoshino talking about the creation of this fan favorite game. Insight into logo design, character design, enemy design, and inspiration on the future and past versions of levels. We hope you enjoy this video!
Sonic CD Fanart CompetitionWe’re nearly done picking all the winners for the SONIC CD Fanart contest and will be ready to show you the results and winners very shortly. We’ve done a few art contests now and we’re still very impressed with the different styles and overall creativity – it makes picking winners that much more difficult. We’ll have more info on this contest very soon, stay tuned! | ||

I am not a member of the Sega Forums, and not much of a gamer anyway, But this was my favourite ever game growing up, holding very special memories. I haven’t played it in 16 years and I’ve been waiting for a re-release.
Ever since this project was announced last August, I’ve been checking here and the forums almost daily, waiting for more info about the release date.
Sega, I understand the process of passing certifications as explained on the forum but surely being this close without giving a release date is getting really upsetting for many fans! Can we finally have the date(s)??????

Cool! It seems like it’s so rare to see those early sorts of designs for any of the Sonic games, let alone Sonic CD! If Sega ever compiles all that, y’know, into a book or something, it’s an instant buy for me. Just saying, y’know!
Also really looking forward to seeing all the contest entries! The Black Knight contest had some really spectacular work in it (even the runner ups were fun to look at), I can’t wait to see the new ones!

Amazing documentary. I do have one question, what inspired Sonic Team to make that music so beautiful and up beat like Quartz Quardrant and Stardust Speedway Zone? Speedway especially with the hit it and get down samples. Sega also used the samples for their other games like Ristar and Virtua Fighter.

I’d personally love to see more of these behind the scenes videos with Sega’s own other classic franchises, or even looking back at games from years ago with key staff members sharing their thoughts. What might have been another day at the office in Japan all those years ago, picking up a magazine as a kid and seeing those preview screenshots and art, knowing it wasn’t out yet, it put me in awe wondering and imagining what that experience was going to be like. Just opening that magazine and seeing that art of Sonic and Metal Sonic would entertain my childhood imagination for hours.
Well, many thanks to Hoshino for sharing his time and thoughts, and everyone who put this together.

I would totally buy an artbook of Sonic CD and Genesis Sonic work. If it’s in a vault somewhere, someone should definitely dig it up and gather it together!
