Happy Hedgehog Day 2012On February 2nd in 1994, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was released in the US, and it was dubbed “Hedgehog Day”. In the past few years, we’ve revived this Sonic holiday as a day for fan celebration, and some news and goodies for Sonic fans. This year is no exception. We’ve got an extra special dose of concept art from Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II, and a couple “save the date” announcements for this summer. Although we’re not ready to talk about all of our plans for this year, we’ve got some great stuff in the works. I think it’s going to be a great year to be a Sonic fan. From all of us at SEGA to all of you — Happy Hedgehog Day! Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II – Egg SerpentleafWe normally do concept art on Fridays, but we’ve got a special extra for you on Hedgehog Day! Save the Dates for Summer of Sonic and Sonic Boom 2012!Fans of Sonic on both sides of the pond will have a chance to gather this summer, as Summer of Sonic returns to the UK and Sonic Boom returns to the US! We’ll have plenty more details in the coming months about both fan gatherings, but we’re so excited about seeing all of you this summer that we just had to give you a special sneak peek at what we’re planning. Summer of Sonic will be held in the London area on Saturday, July 7th. This will be the fifth anniversary of Summer of Sonic – and we’re determined to make it the biggest and best show yet! SoS is an all-day event that celebrates all aspects of the Sonic franchise. ‘Zoned’ areas offer a range of different activities – budding artists can sit down at the fan art tables and compete in competitions, speed runners can challenge each other at the retro gaming pods, and the latest Sonic titles are available for fans to try before they’re even released. Sonic Boom will be held in San Diego, CA on Friday, July 13th (during San Diego Comic Con) at the House of Blues. We’ll have more information about ticketing in the future, but you will not be required to have a Comic Con badge to attend Sonic Boom. Hotels in the San Diego area fill up quickly for Comic Con, so if you will need a hotel room, we suggest that you book early and/or consult the San Diego Comic Con hotel page. At the first Sonic Boom last year, fans had a chance to play Sonic Generations, get some great swag, enjoy a great musical performance from Crush40, and more. We don’t want to give too much away about what’s in the works for this year (at least, not right now!), but we’re aiming to make it a great time for Sonic fans of all ages. We hope you’ll come hang out with us, Sonic, and a bunch of Sonic fans!

Egg Serpentleaf?
It’s a boss, obviously.
But I wonder a boss of which zone, because the level should have a Garden-Flower trope/theme otherwise the boss would look out of place.
My body is ready.

Ok, at the very least, that boss looks incredible. But you gotta show something real eventually, this is just getting annoying. 2 teaser trailers, a title logo, and 4 pieces of concept art later, this is starting to become really annoying.

DOOHHMAIGAWD THAT EGG SERPENT THING IS A RIP OFF OF… er WHATEVER IT RIPPED OFF OMGWTF!!1!1
*seriousness mode* That is a damn fine looking… boss? I’m guessin’ anyways. Also, it’s good to know that Sonic Boom was a big enough hit to warrant a comeback, but shame that it apparently won’t be comin’ back to E3, but SDCC, is a darn fine event as well, so not too disheartened by that.
Also, the Summer Of Sonic logo looks pretty sweet too. Except it’s a RIPOFF OF THE SONIC BOOM LOGO OMG even though technically Sonic Boom is pretty much an American Summer Of Sonic…

I remember couting down the days for “Hedgehog Day” so I could get my copy of Sonic 3. And I’m still totally that crazy about that hedgehog.
I wish I could attend either Sonic Boom or Summer of Sonic. That would be fabulous. Unfortunately both are too far and expensive for me to get to. At least for now. Perhaps I’ll make it to one when I’m 90.

Anyone else find it funny that, on this day two years ago, they’ve shown concept art of a flower?
And… wait, wait, WAIT, HOLD THE PHONE.
“…the latest Sonic titles are available for fans to try before they’re even released.”

Gotta say I bloody love this boss design. it looks really new but at the same time looks like a callback to Egg Viper. I hope it says “get a load of this”~
I can tell by this concept art that Sonic 4.2 is something to get excited about

Oh god no… Please no SEGA… Stop with the Sonic 2 resemblance… Stop with all the purple and pink looking stuff… Guy’s are not into that… Please make it more man friendly and original man… Come on… It’s like a rip of Sonic 2 and Sonic Colors mixed… With Sonic Knight mixed in from the plant look too… Ugh…

(Dons cheesy Russian accent) It is good day to GIANT Blue Blur fan.
I live in Tejas, so I might not make it to this Sonic Boom, though I sure as heck want to, and will probably try. In fact, I’ll be trying to do so every year, from now on.
The new boss looks… Boss. And I am honestly quite hyped already, having read this article and seen these images. With the last few Sonic games making a swift return to awesome, I have a lot of hope for how things are going to go now for Sonic, and for Sega.

Wait a minute….isn’t that the CLASSIC EGGMAN design in the Egg Serpentleaf (no seriously, it looks like classic Eggman from Sonic Generations without his yellow cape and black pants)?
Sonic 4 PR…first the classic Tails’s tails in the Episode II teaser….and now this…please, just clarify whether the classic designs will be in this game via option or not already. :/
Anyway, nice concept art. This boss definitely doesn’t look similar to any classic boss I can recall right now. And considering the starship design and the Steelion badnik from last Friday, this pretty much confirms an water-based level.
As for that first concept art, it looks completely different from the rest of the boss….are mid-zone minibosses back? Or is it “Part 1″ of the Egg Serpentleaf Boss?

Why SEGA does not make a Sonic celebration in Brazil?
We like of Sonic The Hedgehog!
Note: In Brazil you have your representative Tectoy, you could combine to make a similar celebration as Hedgehog Day.

Oh, and here’s a trivia bit for you: Groundhog Day originally starred a hedgehog. Long ago in Germany, folklore had it that if the sun came out on Candlemas Day, a hedgehog would cast a shadow that predicted six more weeks of bad weather. When the German settlers came to America, there were no hedgehogs to be found, but there were plenty of groundhogs, so the groundhog took over.

Awesome news (though I wish I could attend at least ONE of the Sonic Boom events), feel like playing on the Genesis again lol hard to believe it’ll be 20 years since Sonic 2 came out on top of that. One question I’m sure some have asked: When will the Sonic Generations Original Soundtrack Blue Blur ever be released on iTunes? It’ll really make this hedgehog day complete, and I’m a sucker for Sonic music 😛

But really, thanks for this special treat, and hope everyone had a happy Hedgehog day!!! Way past cool!

Happy Hedgehog Day everyone!!! I like the design for the Eggleaf, the way the cockpit opens up like that makes me think of the Egg Viper of Sonic Adventure, one of my favourite battles in my favourite game of all time! Will Sonic be required to use the homing attack to bounce across to it again? That would be a great touch! Also will Sonic 4-2 be made available on the Vita? I’ve been wondering what Sonic games you guys will make for the Vita and since Rayman Origins has been made available for it was wondering if you would follow suit.

@Blaze and Luna — keep watching the link to the San Diego Comic Con hotels page that I linked to up there. They haven’t started their room lottery yet, and I’m guessing that’s at least part of the reason that the rooms are booked — they are held by SDCC for the room lottery.

I will be going to Comic Con (hoping I get a ticket when they come out) this year, and I want to get as much Comic Con as possible … and as much Sonic Boom.
I had to skip out early last year because it was during the same time as Video Games Live. I am have a horrible feeling that something similar will happen this year.

Hey SEGA, I sort of need to know right now weather or not the convention will take place over multiple days or just a certain time during the 13th. Also it’s fairly important that I know at what time it will take place. My hotel reservation is going to start on the 13th, so if it is across multiple days I’ll need to know if I should reserve to stay at a dfferent hotel for a bit. If you could disclose any sort of extra informtion to help me out with this that would be simply fantastic.

Hey, Sega. I’m honored to be on this website. I was just wondering, I noticed that the girl that marries Sonic ( Sally, who I barely know. ) doesn’t have a action figure. I was wondering if you could be so kind as if to make some action figures of her. BTW, thank you for making Storm and Wave action figures. Any -who, just f you could make some 3.5 in. and any other in action figures of her. Now, you don’t have to waste your money just to make me happy, but I would really enjoy if she had one. BTW ( again ) I just bought some action figures. These figures were Sonic 20th Anniversary 3.5 Inch Action Figure 2003 Knuckles Egg Pawn, Sonic 20th Anniversary 3.5 Inch Action Figure 2006 Silver Lblis Biter, Sonic 20th Anniversary Action Figure 3Pack 2008 Dr. Eggman 2x Blue Egg Fighters, Sonic 20th Anniversary Action Figure 3Pack 1994 Dr. Eggman 2x Red Eggrobos, Sonic Free Riders 3.5 Inch Action Figure Storm, Sonic Free Riders 3.5 Inch Action Figure Wave and Sonic The Hedgehog: Amy Big Head Fleece Cap. Thank you for making these and thank you for your time. I will keep you posted of what I’m hearing the Sonic fans want. GTG, bye!!!
