Submit Your Sonic Generations Music QuestionsThere have been many beloved songs in the last 20 years of Sonic Games. Just like Sonic Generations took some of the most beloved levels and remade them in both Classic and Modern formats, Jun Senoue (Crush40, and Musical Director for Sonic), composers Tomoya Ohtani and Kenichi Tokoi, and Alex Makhlouf (Cash Cash) did the same with the music. You probably have a lot of questions about what it’s like to make music for Sonic, and about the specific tracks in Generations… and here’s your chance to ask them! Post your questions in the comments below, and we’ll select some for these musicians. We’ll post their answers here on the blog in a few weeks for all to enjoy.

Okay guys. What would you say the stereotypical “SONIC SOUND” is.
Is it thundering bass with crashing guitars? Or more Hip-Hoppy?
Also, do you guys approach composition and arrangement in terms of feel of the level, or feel of the character?
As an aspiring composer I’m quite interested in how you get your ideas from a visual image to the wonderful recorded stage that it always is!

1st. Why you decided to dont make main Vocal Theme for Generations? I really missed that
2nd. (To Jun) Do you think Crush 40 will do more Sonic tracks in the future? I and many others would love to see Crush 40 making another Main Theme
And 3rd. (To Jun) Why did you decide to make Death EGG Robo track re-aragment orchestral. I really like it and I would love to hear what was your inspiration
Oh and 4th one. (To Jun) How it felt to work with Ted Poley and Tony Harnell again while making new “Escape From The City”?
Thats all for now. I will come back with more

Just wondering where the inspiration came from for the sonic 3D blast songs? (saturn version) thats quite possibly my most loved soundtrack! Also, Directed at Alex Makhlouf, who remixed escape from the city with endless mine from sonic 3. I LOVED how he through that part in there…it’s like it belonged in the there from the beginning…I don’t even REMEMBER how the original goes, because it sounds so “right”. I was just hoping/wondering if there will be more remixed/combined songs like that in the future.
Also, to crush 40: I would love to see them work on a new sonic adventure game…their songs alone set the tone for the entire game….it literally MAKES the game’s atmosphere. Even in shadow the hedgehog…the tone was set because of the music.
please guys, keep up the good work, I havn’t heard a sonic soundtrack that I didn’t like…
lastly, BRING MORE CHAOTIX MUSIC BACK FROM THE DEAD!! IT’S ONE OF THE BEST SOUNDTRACKS IN GAMING HISTORY! (also, would love to see a new chaotix game where you have to find mighty/ray/bean/all the missing characters in the franchise.)

Hey Jun and Johnny (Crush 40), Tomoya, Kenichi and Alex, I was wondering what bands you frequently listen to and what music inspires you? And, how do you decide what “guest bands” (Zebrahead, Bowling for Soup) appear in the games? I listen to Foo Fighters, Atreyu, A Day to Remember, Motion City Soundtrack, Four Year Strong and a lot of other bands, and would love to hear them appear in a game some time. Your music will always be my favorite though!!

To Jun Senoue,
If I’m not mistaken, you composed most of the “Modern” tracks in the game, from Green Hill to Seaside Hill. How did you go about re-imagining all that classic music to fit into the “modern” style of Sonic games? Also, there were a lot of obscure tracks that made it into the final product, such as “Door Into Summer” (from Knuckles’ Chaotix) in the Collection Room. Did you select these tracks, and if so, how did they stand out to you?
To Tomoya Ohtani and Kenichi Tokoi,
I understand that you made the remixes for your respective tracks in Generations, including Crisis City and Planet Wisp. What kinds of ideas did you want to incorporate into your remixes in order to make them sound fresh and new again?
To Cash Cash,
Your remixes in both version of Generations are simply stunning. Which tracks were your favorites to put together? Which songs do you wish you could have had a chance at remixing for the game? Also, do you plan to keep composing for Sonic games in the future?

This isn’t really a question, is more like a thank you. i’d like to say thank you for the music that you brought to my life, I live in Brazil and the reason I am what I am today was because of Sonic and his music, the first game I’ve played in my life was Sonic 1 for the Master System, and the first game I played on the Genesis was Sonic 2. And every time I hear that masterpiece that is Green Hill Zone I jumped around, pick up my controller and finish the game in a matter of hours.
When I bought Sonic Generation for the PC and saw the list I cried, when I was playing the first stage as the 2D Sonic I knew where I belonged and every time I entered Chemical Plant Zone the nostalgia was great.
Basically I want to thank that you guys were a giant part of my life, with your music, with your game, with you ideas and thoughts, and I just wanted to tell you this because you guys needed to see that you all changed my life.
Thank you again, Henrique Gonçalves

I have a few questions for these guys concerning the music, from one musician and Sonic music aficionado to another.
First question, to Jun Senoue as the Musical Director. Concerning the extra tracks that one can unlock in-game, what kind of decisions were made over the song choices? What influenced the likelihood of “Song A” (for example’s sake: Marble Garden) being chosen over “Song B” (for example: Ice Cap)?
Second and general questions: Out of all of the songs that you’ve contributed to, which one of them are you the most proud of? Which one of them would you have wanted to work on for a little while longer?
Final question: If you could work on one more Classic and/or Modern arrangement for any stage from previous games, which one would it be and why?

1.What challenges do you face when listening to the original songs, then coming up with a way to remix it beautifully for the fans to enjoy?
2.Out of all the remixed songs in Sonic Generations, which one is your personal favorite, and why?
Those are the only questions I could come up with. ><

As a (not really big) Sonic fan and a big rock/jazz/metal fan, I must say, Mr. Senoue, your music is amazing. I consider your magnum opus to be the first Sonic Adventure game, but the Generations OST has also been on par with the Adventure OST. When composing for the next Sonic console game, do you plan on bringing back some of the elements of the Adventure soundtrack that made it so worthy of praise? Also, will you utilize some elements from the old Sonic games (Sonic 2, Sonic CD, etc.) as well?

Hello to all you awesome composers of the Sonic series!
Here’s my question: While I’m glad that some of Fumie Kumatani’s tracks were used, since she’s one of my favorite composers for the series (her work on the songs for Shadow and his levels in Sonic Adventure 2 especially stand out), was she involved in the composing/remixing process for Generations at all? I suppose that another reason I like her is because I’m an aspiring female composer.
Keep up the good work, Ms. Kumatani (and everyone else too) !
I ask because I’ve seen several lists of all the collaborators, but I didn’t see her anywhere besides being credited as the original composer of songs like “For True Story.”
If you guys ever get this comment, thanks so so much for taking the time to read it!

I do have a genuine question, however. What has happened to Fumie Kumatani? Is she taking a break from the series, working on other properties, or is she doing well? She’s always been my favorite composer at Sonic Team, and I’ve been wondering about her involvement as of late.

I have a two-part question myself. First of all, how much free reign were you given in terms of deciding the sound of each remix? For example, where there any specific requirements or were you given complete control, did you have to work with an overseer, etc. Secondly, how did you go about incorporating your own individual style into the tracks and were there any notable challenges in doing this?

First of all fantastic job on the music for Generations. Having both a classic and a modern version of each level made a real difference as he music for the games holds a lot of nostalgic value for me.
My question is if you could pick any zone to do a classic and a modern version of, which ones would they be? Personally I’d love to hear a modern version of Hydro City from Sonic 3 and a classic version of At Dawn (not technically a zone, but still!) from Sonic Adventure.
Keep up the good work!

Hi! I loved the soundtrack remixes for this game, having loved the majority of Sonic soundtracks. I was wondering…
1. Would you really define the classic genesis-era tunes as being techo? I was wondering because I personally just considered them to be more like upbeat pop-like tunes similar to some of Michael Jackson’s work. Speaking of which…
2. Was Michael actually able to contribute anything to Sonic 3′s soundtrack?
3. How come the classic Planet Wisp remix went for a darker, more mechanical tone as opposed to just a 16-bit remix that’s more faithful to the tone of the original?
4. Which Classic Sonic game do you feel had the best soundtrack? Which Modern game?

Was it ever an option to utilize the various Invincible and Speed Up tunes throughout the series? Such as, the first era has Sonic 1′s tune, the second era had Sonic Adventure (1 + 2)’s and the third’s Sonic 4?
On another note, agreeing with n00neimp0rtant, I think a great way to have utilized “nostalgia” would have been to chiptune all the classic stages. I did enjoy a lot of the classic remixes, however, I can’t help but feel that I would have cried had they been in the style of Genesis music. Even more interesting would have been to combine such remixes with real instruments, like Sabrepulse (the band) kinda does. Was any of these options considered?

In the hub world, why is it that all the stages have their own re-orchestrated themes except for Speed Highway? It could have been great, you could have used an acoustic guitar for electric guitar in the beginning, and then could have added a cello when the next segment came in, it would have sounded great. Also, in the hub music re-orchestration for Crisis City, (When the Violin does the first 4 notes of the C minor scale) the D sounds EXTREMELY flat, it is almost painfully out of tune. But besides that, all the music was quite wonderful, I love Sonic music.

I noticed in the extras, that the tracks from Sonic 1 and Sonic Spinball were original rips, instead of remakes. Were these tracks considered for remixed versions, and what parts of the songs would you emphasize in them? (For example, I noticed how the percussion in Chemical Plant Zone was emphasized, which was perfect – dare I think that a more perfect song could be written/arranged!! Although I’m curious as to what a remade Marble Zone would sound like…)
Were there any tracks in the series that you would DISLIKE or have difficulty doing remakes of?

Being a guitar player myself, I really appreciate hearing some cool melodic guitar work in the games. Especially in this day and age of boring techno and and dubstep and all that other stupid BS. Definitely keep Sonic ROCKIN’!
My favorite track in the game is the 1st act of Crisis City. Love the guitar work on that one. The 2nd act of that level is also really great. Really good stuff. The 2nd zone of Chemical Plant gets my special praises too. Pretty much all the music in the game was enjoyable. I liked the violin playing the themes in the stage select area, it’s a nice and original touch. My least favorite was the techno remix of the 1st act of Escape from the city.
Here are my questions:
1) Will you guys ever ever release a sheet music book? That would be cool. So many fun songs to play. I can figure out anything on my own, but this would make it easier and faster. Plus it’d be a cool thing to just own.
2) I was always wondering if the drum track on “Let the speed mend it” was done by an actual drummer or a drum computer. If it was a real guy, he’s a beast.
3) Will there ever be a re-make of the Mystic Cave Zone from Sonic 2? That’s the perfect track for some bad-ass guitar work.
You guys are awesome. I remember as a kid I especially loved the Sonic games because the music was so good. I’m very glad that trend hasn’t been broken. The modern Sonic games are musically also really great. Thanks for the tunes and keep on ROCKIN’!

My question is, who did the remixes for the classic levels IN the classic stages? The reason why I ask this is because in those remixes, not much has changed. To add to the question, why didn’t the soundteam try to go a bit further instead of keeping genesis sounds like the main melody of chemical plant. I thought it was kind of lame to only hear added drums…
And also, did Jun senoue only do the modern songs? I like the soundtrack just as much as the next person, but I loved the creativity of sonic colors ALOT more. It sounded like tomoya ohtani played a very small role in generations music. What did tomoya ohtani do for generations?
I gotta say that I think the music in generations was very hit and miss instead of the great compositions in colors. All the planet wisp tracks in colors were better than the mixes in generations, so that was kind of dissapointing. It felt like there was so little creativity while all the colors mixes were very different from each other, and all sounded excellent. That jazzy planet wisp mix is such a great one for example.
Tomoya ohtani rules!! let him be the lead composer in every sonic game imo

Is classic Sonic’s Intro in Rooftop Run a remake of the Route 99 intro in Sonic Advance 3?
Because It sounds like it to me.

When recording the Modern music, did you need to take into consideration the high-pass filter of the ‘boost’ mechanic? Did that have any impact on how you remixed any of those tracks? As an example, Crisis City Modern sounds very different to the original.
If you were given free reign, what piece of music would you have remixed for Generations in both modern/classic styles?
A lot of games now use audio middleware like FMOD and Wwise, do you use any of those, or do you have an in-house tool?
Thats all my questions; But I just want to say that as a 20 yr sonic veteran, the music and audio is the one area Sonic games have always got absolutely spot on!

Were there any iconic tracks from any of the previous games you’d of wanted to give the remix treatment if given more time? (Like Starlight, Ice Cap, Red Mountain, etc.)
Also for each composer, what was your favorite track to compose and what was it like remixing tunes from games you previously weren’t involved with? (like Senoue for Green Hill, Cash-Cash for City Escape, that sort of thing)

To any (or all) musicians:
Do you have a favourite level from a previous Sonic game you would have loved to have seen remade so you could compose the new music for it?
Alternative question:
Jun Senoue, did you ever consider having a new vocal theme or a remixed one for Sonic Generations, or did you decide to have a new final boss theme and end credits medley from the start?

Oh, one more less Generations-centric question!
For Kenichi Tokoi:
Sonic in the Secret Rings is one of the few games that has lyrical songs in most of the level music (it’s my favourite Sonic soundtrack too, so thanks!). Was there any particular reason for this, and do you enjoy writing songs for level music that have full lyrics like Let The Speed Mend It and Unawakening Float?

First, I would like to say a great big HELLO! to Crush 40 and Cash Cash. You guys have done GREAT with the series’ music so far. I do have a few questions and hope that you find it in your heart to answer them, being that I am a huge fan who has been, seriously wondering these things. (I may or may not repeat questions)
1. Why was Sonic Boom not included anywhere in Sonic Generations? Will you be (or have you already) recorded the remix from Sonic Boom 2011?
2. I was wondering what the song-making process is? How long does it take? Where do you get inspiration? How do you come up with the sound and lyrics, etc. etc.
3. Why was there no nod to other continuities of Sonic in Sonic Generations? I know that as an unlockable there could have been some Sonic Underground thrown in there at least, but we should also not forget that the series (included in the anniversary) includes comic continuity, TV show continuity AND (of course) game continuity. Why did everyone choose to stick with the games only?
4. I know this one has been asked, but what about music videos? People on YouTube make them for the Songs all the time, but what about official videos? I would LOVE to see some (Particularly Open Your Heart, Live and Learn and Reach For the Stars)
5. I have never once been able to attend Summer of Sonic OR Sonic Boom. That being said, my only chance to hear your music has been through YouTube videos and the games. So I was wondering if you have considered going on a concert tour. Surely you’ve written stuff that hasn’t been in the games. Even so, you could do a Sonic music tour to celebrate an anniversary! I would love to go see that!!!
Some closing words: Your music is AWESOME, and Sonic music has touched many people. Please answer my questions. Who knows? Someday, (That word is a Sonic Underground reference) we could be working on something for the same game. Keep up the good work, guys!

To Tomoya Ohtani: While the other composers did their arrangements in a way that they were still fairly true to the original songs, you went all out with your Crisis City and Rooftop Run re-mixes and ended up making some of my favorite songs in the game. Was it diffuclt to get approval to use any of the songs in the game and making remixes out of some of them?
Was there any specific process when it came to selecting the music tracks that made it in the game?

I assume that the musical composers were told by the developers what songs to work on, due to the fact that all of the songs were from remade levels from other Sonic games. The music just had to match. But the themes for the options and online menus could’ve been a lot of different songs. Was it the composers’ choice at that point? Or did the developers plan that too? How were these decisions made? Also, who composed the background music for the cutscenes?

Here is a great opportunity to ask some questions I have in mind.
First, I’d like to say that Generations’s OST is purely awesome. It keeps getting better and I can’t wait for more of your work. I’m sure I won’t be dissapointed.
Second, here are the questions!
-Was there a reason for using Eggman’s theme from Sonic Adventure 2 instead of the current one, or was it simply for “nostalgia”? Do you plan on keeping this one for future Sonic games?
-The music in the original Crisis City is in fact pieces of music that plays during the different parts of the level. (Tornado, Skyscraper, ect.) In Generations, all the parts are put together in a (rather awesome) remix. Was there a reason for that?
-Some tracks on the 3DS versions are taken straight from the original game. (Classic Tropical Resort, for instance) Did you guys ran out of time?
Also, something that bothers me: if you had no choice but using the original track, why using “Tropical Resort, Act 1″, instead of “Tropical Resort, Act 3″? (this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzCvE5py2B0 )
-Do you plan on releasing the OST on Steam as a DLC?
-Is there other remixes we didn’t hear about for some reason? (scrapped level(s), ect.)
-I know Cash Cash has a Youtube Channel, but does Crush40? If no, do you plan on making one and release some of your work here?
-Is there one fan-remix of any track from a Sonic game you guys like specifically?
I think that’s about it. Thanks SEGA for making such great games and Crush40/Cash Cash for the awesome soundtrack that goes with them!

Do you ever have trouble when thinking of songs and remixes?
How exciting is it to work on music for new Sonic games?
Any tips for someone who loves music, and wants to become a composer? More specifically, how about when it comes to making songs that are as awesome as mostly all Sonic songs, past, recent, classic, modern, etc.
Will you guys consider working on a special arranged mix CD for fans one day?
And, what is every composer’s favorite song?
These questions are generalized, but anyone can answer anything.
Finally, do you guys play the Sonic games and rock out to your songs? Or do you prefer someone else’s song and pretty much like each others’ works?

The music in Sonic games used to me really mellow, soft and cheery. Kind of adventurous in a way.
Sonic’s need for speed has changed things alot. He’s now faster, more developed and not to mention three-dimentional. I think it’s fair to say that most people that play Sonic get a certain adrenaline rush when playing it.
My question is;
Is it really hard to think of that sort of music that pumps you up? I think it’s fair to say if the music didn’t have fast tempo and get your blood rushing as it does, Sonic wouldn’t be the same.

Hailing from Singapore! Thank you very much for Sonic Generations! The music was so good I had to buy the original soundtrack. Even my parents recognized the tunes to Green Hill and Chemical Plant and they also enjoyed the remixes!
My questions
1. Why were there some tracks in the credits listed as “Composed by SEGA” while most were credited accordingly? I noticed this is most prevalent with tracks from Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles and Knuckles Chaotix.
2. Why was Water Palace Act 1 and Tropical Resort Act 1 never given the remix treatment?
3. Would you guys consider remixing more old tunes into future games? It’s kind of like how Panic Puppet from Sonic 3D Blast MD was remixed into one level in Sonic Adventure 1 (I can’t remember the level!)
Before signing off. I’d really like to say that although Sonic may have had less than stellar titles in the past, the one thing that Sonic has always been blessed with is its diverse soundtracks based on the many different genres of games Sonic has ventured into. Thank you very much! The music will live on in my heart forever!
Yours sincerely

To Jun Senoue/Cash Cash/Crush 40 (whoever it may concern): How was it like to remix the songs from the US version of the Sonic CD soundtrack (Sonic Boom, Stardust Speedway “P” and “B” Mix)? How long were you familiar with the US version, and what were the influences that went into creating what we now have in the soundtrack and the bonus songs on the Sonic CD iTunes album?
While I was never a big fan of the US take on the music for Sonic CD, the remixes you folks did were very outstanding. Taking what I feel was a bit bland (my opinion you readers) and giving a very nice flavor of beat and a more memorable guitar flare (Stardust Speedway Present, the bonus song on the 20th anniversary of the Sonic CD album, definitely the one standing out here).
Any thoughts on remixing any more songs from the US version of Sonic CD for a later game and/or album?

Hello musical guys at SEGA. My question is slightly long-winded but I would love to hear an answer from you guys.
Each Sonic game has a fantastic soundtrack that reflects the setting/feel of the game. For example, Sonic and the Black Knight has a great celtic feel to it whereas Shadow the Hedgehog’s metal/rock soundtrack captures the dark feeling of the game perfectly.
Which one was your favourite one to compose and what would be your dream Sonic game to compose for (in terms of the setting/feel of the game)?

When designing a theme for a particular character, how do you prepare the song? Do you do some role-playing as the character to get the feel for how that character would want the song?

I really loved Chemical Plant Zone Modern. What really drove you to give it that slower tempo for the stage?
A more important question though: Did you have any say in what stages were chosen? Because Seaside Hill didn’t seem to be a fan favorite, but the music did have a lot of heart put into its redesign. Especially with the Ocean Temple mix.

Before I start, to Christopher (#191), the vocals were removed because the rights to them belong to singer Casey Rankin, who died in 2009.
This question is for Kenichi Tokoi: When you did Classic Planet Wisp, was that song inspired by Scrap Brain Zone? That’s the overall feel I got from it, the natural paradise being turned into a mechanical wasteland.
This question is for Alex Makhlouf: What was your favorite track that you remixed in Generations?
Also, YOU GUYS ROCK!!!! Keep making your awesome Sonic music!!

Sega, you should make a 3 inch Classic Knuckles figure with Master Emerald accesory.
The Master Emerald would be in a stand that it can be taken out of. The stand is made of plastic rocks and crystals like how it was in the game “Sonic 3 and Knuckles”.
I know for sure people would buy that and plus people are commenting on how you should make this on Facebook, Twitter, and You-Tube.
I highly recommend you create this figure!
Thank you!!!

I really loved finding remixes from some of the more obscure titles like Knuckles Chaotix, Sonic R, Sonic Spinball and Sonic Battle. Even more, I enjoyed hearing you experiment with different styles of music(The swing band arrangements were my favorites!). How did you decide on which tracks to pull from these games and what musical style to arrange them to?
Also, was there any reason you didn’t pick any songs from the Game Gear Sonic games? Can we expect to hear any remixes in future Sonic games or is this sort of thing left for Anniversary titles? (I hope not!)
Finally, there were a lot of Sonic 1 and 2 remixes involved in Generations, which was awesome to hear. Was there any attempt to get Masato Nakamura (Composer of Sonic 1 and 2) to contribute to the project? Is it possible we will ever see him return to compose new tracks for the Sonic series?
Overall, this has been the most impressive and varied Sonic soundtrack I’ve ever heard. I hope this teamup of musicians sticks together and continues to do more Sonic music in the future. You’ve all outdone yourselves!

First I want to say great job on the main soundtrack. So a couple questions now that that is out of the way.
1. So how come the unlockable music is for the most part unchanged?
2. I know you were going for an epic feel with the final boss music, but at the same time it can feel very awkward, is there a reason for that, or is it just me?
3. unrelated to generations, but is it true one of the songs in sonic 4 was made from the sounds of a dying cat?
Ok that’s probably enough questions

One of my favorite songs is “Escape from the City.” I was wondering what is was like to write and record the original and then to remix it for Generations as well as get Ted Poley back in the studio to record a new arrangement. Seems kind of like a full circle experience!
Thank you guys so much and keep up the amazing work!

While I absolutely loved the soundtrack for Sonic Generations, there have been a couple of choice stages that I really would love to have seen in the game, like Quartz Quadrant, and Ice Cap, and in turn, I would love to have heard Classic and Modern remixes of those stages, like the Good and Bad Future tunes of Quartz Quadrant, and Ice Cap. Of course, I don’t mean the “midi” remixes of the unlockable Genesis music in the Collection Room, but actual Classic and Modern remixes.
So, my question is, is there any chance of there being a sort of “What If…?” soundtrack album of fan-favourite Sonic stages that didn’t make it into Generations, with Classic and Modern remixes and everything?

5th: All- you guys do a great job of creating music that often defines the mood and fell of a level or an entire game. how early on in development is the music formed or even considered? dose the game’s mood set the mood for the music or dose the music’s moodl set the mood of the game?
Sorry for any typos and spelling mistakes i did this in a hurry. and by the way you guys are all super awsome and should tour WAY MORE esspesialy in the US. 1) What kind of music should we expect for Sonic 4 Episode 2? Will it be orcheastra? Rock? Or will it be the same as Episode 1?
2) If there was one level from Shadow the Hedgehog that you would put in Sonic Generations soly to remix it’s song, what would it be?
3) Which vocal song do you think suits sonic best?

For Masato Nakamura, what jazz influences such as artists and composers did you have when composing Casino Night Zone, and were you going for a specific sound, such as the New Orleans feel I get from the Sonic Generations remix?
For Howard Dorsin, what influences did you have for Sky Sanctuary? It sounds like it would be very powerful if played by an orchestra. The Opening bars would sound great with strings, reminiscent of the start of “Jupiter” from Holst’s ” The planets”

1)The remixes in Generations were AMAZING. I loved hearing them in the game. However, are there any other stages that you would like to remix? (Like maybe a Classic remix of SA2′s “HighWay in the Sky…for Final Rush,” or a FULL Modern remix of Sonic Advance 2′s “Hot Crater” as possible examples?)
2)Are you planning to place the songs from the Blue Blur OST on iTunes anytime soon?
3)How exactly are you able to make time-line transitions? By this, I mean making a Classic song have a more Modern feel (remix) and vice-versa?
I have more questions, but I feel those were my most important of them.

First I would like to say great job on the sound track! It’s the best in the series (so far, hint-hint ^^)! There are a couple of things about it that I was wondering that hopefully you can answer for me.
1: I know you probably get this a lot, but why didn’t you do a Speed Highway: At Dawn remix? I totally would’ve loved to hear that. I guess it probably coincides with the fact that the developers never made an At Dawn section to begin with, but the music would’ve been a nice extra for missions and all that.
2: This one is for Jun or anyone who can answer it. In Speed Highway: Going Down!?, Skyscraper Downhill (MAN I love that one!), there is a short rap that happens at the beginning as soon as the guitar kicks in. I love that track SO much, but I can never tell what the rapper is saying (and trust me, I’ve tried to, to the very best of my imagination). Jun, since you and Cash Cash worked on the remix of it, do you think you can tell me? It’s really been bugging me.
3: This one I’m sure a lot of people have brought up, but about half of the music in the 3DS version almost sounds exactly the same as the original. This was especially true for both Emerald Coast and Tropical Resort (Act 1), however, after listening closely, I discovered that the original tracks for Emerald Coast and the new tracks for the Generations version of Emerald Coast DO have some variation in the instruments, so good on ya for that ^^! However, no matter how hard I try, I can’t help but think that the Act 1 version of Tropical Resort sounds EXACTLY the same as the Sonic Colors version. I don’t want to discredit anyone, but it really does sound like a direct rip from the original game. To put my doubts to rest, do you think you could tell me if it was remixed and if so, what were the key differences, such as instruments or tempo, etc.?
GREAT JOB ON EVERYTHING ELSE, THOUGH!!!! I only wish that the developers made certain sections of the game longer so that I could hear the full songs that you guys made while actually trying to play! People keep talking about the possibility of DLC, and though I’m starting to find my faith in that dwindling, if there were going to be some extra DLC, some more AWESOME remix tracks would be GREAT!!! Keep up the good work!

I have a question about the inclusion of the alternate tracks in Sonic Generations.
You guys have added iconic musical pieces from many games from the first Sonic the Hedgehog game to the most recent Sonic Colors. I even noticed that for the Genesis games you all added the original versions of some of the zones. The few songs that I was really expecting to be added were Carnival Night, Icecap, and Launch Base, but they were all missing. Did you guys not include those songs for a reason and if so did it have something to do with Michael Jackson’s alleged contribution to the composition of the music in Sonic the hedgehog 3?
I really hope you all clear this up because it’s been on my mind ever since I got my copy of Sonic Generations back in November. Thanks and I definitely look forward to the next Sonic game!

(to all) When you make music for a Sonic game, what inspires you to make the songs sound new and creative, while still fitting the mood of a Sonic title? Do you look towards songs from older titles (such as the ones composed by Nakamura-san) and try to evoke a similar feeling in the player, or do you try to make something completely different?
(to Senoue-san) Out of all the composers of Sonic games I know of, your name is the one I consider most synonymous with the music of the franchise. What do you think is the single most important essence of the music in Sonic games?

Out of all the composers that have been involved with the franchise, I find myself listening to your music the most. You have a signature style, yet you’re able to stay extremely versatile. Whether it’s a fusion of organic and electronic, or an epic orchestral arrangement, it never fails to impress. Even when you collaborate with other artists there seems to be excellent synergy!
So, I’d like to know what exactly makes you tick. What are your biggest influences when it comes to composing a new song? Do you have a specific workflow, a piece of hardware/software, or any go-to inspiration outside of music? And could you share a few details on how your history with Sega/Wave Master started and if the experience working there has evolved over time?
Finally—and I gotta know—where did your slight obsession with breakbeats come from? XP
Thanks!

This question for Jun-sensei has been bugging me for a while now.
One of my favourite tracks is the Modern Chemical Plant Zone. However, since it was first heard, I’ve noticed that it’s noticably slower than the original and Classic versions; the Classic verion is about 138-140 beats per minute, while the Modern version is only about 88 BPM, a pretty huge shift. With most other tracks, there isn’t as noticable a change in tempo between the two versions.
Why is this the case for Chemical Plant?

Knuckles and Rouge’s relationship is too obvious in this game, not as regulations in your country but according investigate Rouge is an adult and I think it gives a bad example to date someone underage. In any case if you are so determined to have a relationship Knuckles let comes of age so you can have a relationship with the adult character choice.
