Jet Set Radio is Back on the Airwaves
DJ Professor K, Beat, Gum, and all the GGs are taking to the streets in this upgraded HD version of Jet Set Radio, which sees players vying for control of the futuristic Tokyo-to by marking their turf with graffiti tagged across walls, billboards, and rival gang members. Jet Set Radio will be coming to XBLA, PSN, and Windows PC Digital Download this summer. If you’re unfamiliar with the story, Jet Set Radio lets players join the GGs, an up-and-coming street gang in the futuristic city of Tokyo-to, fighting for the right to self-expression against an overbearing, corporate-controlled police force. Rolling and leaping through crowded urban environments on magnetically driven inline skates, players take control of gang leader Beat and his growing posse of deviant artists as they steal turf from the local gangs by covering the city with colorful graffiti. Guided by Professor K, DJ for the hottest pirate broadcast in town – “Jet Set Radio” – the GGs will ultimately uncover the sinister plot hatched by the controlling powers of Tokyo-to. Sega, day one purchase— a million thank yous for re-releasing this!
I don’t want to start nagging you about something else, but could you seriously consider releasing for the PC (or Steam alone) the Typing of the Dead series (I recently learned you had more releases of this series in Japan and I want them and the original!) and Hundred Swords? I never knew Hundred Swords had a US release on the PC, but I’m hesitant to buy it now because I doubt it will work for Windows 7. And why isn’t Sega Swirl on the iPhone/iPod Touch?
And lastly, thanks to recent rumors, a Seaman on 3DS just sounds appropriate and necessary for the future of the human race.

I wish Shenmue would get a re-release! Sega should make it a monthly thing to re-release their old games. That’d be amazing.

To confirm, this is an HD version of Jet Grind Radio(as it was named in North America) and NOT a remake of its sequel, Jet Set Radio Future, released on the Xbox.
Is this correct?

@John: I’m not SEGA, but I can 100% say that this is the first game and not the sequel. JSRF looked completely different, and the blog post itself states this is the Dreamcast original.

I agree with Mike and DV2, JSRF might be backwards compatible on 360 but I’d prefer a proper HD re-release on XBLA, PSN, and PC. I really wish I can understand why so many want Shenmue, because I don’t recall it being that great or the storyline ever finished even with Shenmue 2. Don’t get me wrong, I’d most likely buy it, it’s not a complaint against the request, I just find it curious.

Thanks for the confirmation.
I saw a few posts in forums from some people that were clearly confused by the naming. They tended to be gamers that played JRSF and didn’t even realize the first one ever existed.
Perfect time for them to experience the original.

Yes! Yes! God, yes!! This is looking great! I can’t wait until this summer. Sadly, it looks like I’ll finally have to say goodbye to my Dreamcast. JSR was the game I kept going back to over and over again that kept my Dreamcast hooked to the TV. Not just for the unique style of gameplay, but Hideki Naganuma’s awesome soundtrack.

from the name to the fact its coming out (i prefer jet set radio rather than jet grind radio) but one I’m wondering is i know one of the competition prizes is a jet set radio hoodie, any chance of some other merch if the reception is good? i would love to be rocking a jet set radio hoodie or shirt and i would enter the competition but in not old enough. Anyway thank you for finally bringing this game out and good luck to all those who are entering the competition

Well, there goes my hopes of making graffiti featuring Professor K, Ryo Hazuki, or the Eggman logo. Am I the only one wondering if the framerate will see a gorgeous increase? Good call on JG… I mean, JSR Sega. I’m not sure if I have enough incentive to purchase this one (have it on the DC and favor its sequel), but hope to see more classics revisited.

Dav, that’s right. Some of the songs are licensed, so SEGA would have to renew those, or replace them. No big deal, the most recognizable tunes are the ones originally made for the game.

dear sega,
from all the comments its pretty clear we all loved the original sound track.
It also played a big part in the overall joy of the game.
I dont want to say I would hate the idea of new tracks, but I would have got the xbox arcade version of crazy taxi all over again if the sound track stayed the same.
Please keep the sound track as it was

Please, please, please for the love of all that is good and holy include a custom graffiti import feature like in the original game. It could be a lot simpler, since both the PS3 and 360 already have native photo storage features, you could simply import photos from there (pssst, make sure transparency/alpha is intact). I’m a digital artist and it would mean so, so, so much to me to get to create lots of graffiti art to spray all over Tokyo in the game. It might seriously move me to tears. Please do it! (Yes, I’m interested in entering the contest! It’s not the same thing, though. I want to make as much art as I like, whenever I like, for when I’m playing the game myself!)

Very good Sega, now all you need is to skip the remakes and make a part 3 to the JSR series and do it carefully with the cell shade and everything but new story same characters but adding some new characters as well oh and new game modes same multiplayer concept and online playable against people around the world. Please Sega don’t screw my wish up I beg of you.

Please SEGA release jet set radio future on PSN . There are so many fans out there that want the game to come back! You should let this amazing game gain the glory it deserves( it was pretty unfair that Xbox didn’t success and affected the sales of the game)! It is one of the old games that remains amazing even after 10 years!!! By the way, it is the only game that is adored even by pro gamers that prefer military/shooting games. I tell this from my own experience ( ex. my friends). Also, both sexes love the game! It is a masterpiece!
