Sonic Boom Tickets On Sale March 19thLast month, on Hedgehog Day, we announced that Sonic Boom would be held on Friday, July 13, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM at the House of Blues in San Diego, CA (during San Diego Comic Con). Today, we’re pleased to announce that tickets for Sonic Boom will go on sale this coming Monday, March 19th at 10:00 AM Pacific Time exclusively through TicketMaster. We don’t want to give away all the surprises we have in store for you at Sonic Boom, but I’ll let you in on one — Crush 40, along with special guests Jean Paul and Alex Makhlouf from Cash Cash, will be playing live! Rock out to your favorite Sonic songs along with an audience full of other fans. Of course that’s just one exciting part of Sonic Boom… but trust me, it’s going to be a night you don’t want to miss. Why are tickets going on sale so early? We know that many of you will be traveling to San Diego to attend this event, and will therefore need a hotel room. During Comic Con, most hotel rooms are reserved through the convention’s hotel room lottery, which is opening on March 29, 2012. We’re selling tickets early so you can know for sure you have a ticket for Sonic Boom before you book your hotel room. What’s Different This Year? We’re doing things a bit differently this year, and we wanted to take a few moments to explain why, and what you need to know about the tickets for this year’s Sonic Boom. Last year, we distributed tickets for free. As a result of this, we saw people grabbing up large numbers of tickets simply because they could, with no intention to use them. This made our planning more difficult as we couldn’t get an accurate headcount as a result, and many fans that wanted to come felt that they could not, because they didn’t have a ticket. This year, our tickets are being sold through TicketMaster, which is the ticket vendor for the House of Blues. Second, we are charging a small fee per ticket this year — $15 for the ticket and a $5 TicketMaster fee, for a total of $20 per ticket. However, we’re also providing you with more than we did last year — there will be free food at the event (instead of for purchase, like last year), and each ticket holder will get 2 drink tickets that you can redeem for a drink at the bar. (You must be 21 or older with proper ID to redeem your tickets for alcohol.) It is our hope that this system results in more accurate records for us, more available tickets for fans, and a great Sonic-filled evening for everyone. Last year, we had a separate line for people who wanted to get into Sonic Boom but didn’t have tickets. We did this because of the problem we mentioned before — we didn’t have an accurate headcount, and we wanted to let in as many people as we could. This year, we will NOT have a line for people without tickets. You must have a purchased ticket through TicketMaster to enter Sonic Boom. Although the event is held during San Diego Comic Con, you do not need a Comic Con badge to get into Sonic Boom. Finally, although the event is being held during San Diego Comic Con this year, you DO NOT need a Comic Con badge to enter Sonic Boom. As long as you’ve got your purchased TicketMaster ticket and your ID, you’re set! TL;DR Version
We can’t wait to see all of you in San Diego!

Will there be an age restriction on ticket purchases? Such as, will I have to purchase a ticket for my 1 year old son?

It would be awesome if SEGA provided a bus or several buses around the U.S. that would stop in certain parts of the states to pick up ticket holders and drive them to the event, it would sure save me a lot of $$$ and energy, lol…

@SalaComMander — not just like last year, no. Especially with regards to ticketing, which I explained above. But it won’t be totally different either. A lot of stuff worked well last year, and our goal this year is to keep what worked and improve what could be better.
@Dayd111 — we’re not ready to give anything more away yet, but it’s safe to say that we’ll have both new and exciting stuff there.
@Irishdragon5 — I am working on this, but can’t guarantee it at this time. Like last year, we are required to use the catering services of the venue. Not everyone has chili dogs on the menu.
But I’m aware of this desire by the fans.
@Bman1991 — Sorry, transportation is not included. Hope you can make it though!
@Ryan — yes, photos and video will be welcome!

@BishopGraham — sorry, forgot to answer your question. I will verify with House of Blues, but I believe that every attendee needs a ticket, regardless of age.

Sounds awesome, I have no issue with paying at all, in fact I told Aaron last year I’d be more than happy to pay an attendance fee
It’s not like we’re getting nothing out of it, food, drinks, live performances, probably an unannounced guest or 2, the chance to mingle with fans alike and (please?) SWAG!
There were 500+ tickets up for grabs last year and there weren’t even 1/2 that many ticket holders in line (or inside I don’t think) so this’ll guarantee the fans that want to go will get in
Thank you so much SEGA, you were amazing during Comic-Con last year and this year will be no exception

Yay more info!
$20 for all you can eat and a couple free drinks to start? I’m game.
Quick question. For those going to Comic-Con (at least with some of the Early Bird Hotels) there will be a shuttle from some hotels to the Convention Center which is what…5 blocks from the House of Blues?
Any luck those with Boom goers will be able to use the shuttles without a Comic-Con badge, or would it just be better to take a taxi?
I hope to get my new cosplay done in time though! Last year I was Blaze the Cat (which was fun~). …I just hope I can fit this idea on a plane lol.

Hey ya Blaze! Your costume was awesome last year, you even bowed on stage like she does in the games
It’s a short walk to the House of Blues, traffic will be choc-a-block if last year is any indication :/

@ Jix Hedgehog
|D; The hotel I’m staying at is a bit further than a few blocks (Town & Country in Hotel Circle)- I called earlier before this announcement and the shuttle’s initially soley for Comic-Con goers (with badge to present). I won’t be going to Comic-con as it is (wasn’t around when the tickets went on sale)- and walking a few miles in costume isn’t exactly something I have in mind when not inside a convention lol.
But I don’t know if the event planners will allow for the shuttle with a Boom pass and not a Comic-Con badge (a stretch I know but doesn’t hurt to ask!)
I looked at the transit system- but the company coming with me wants things as easy as possible (they also paid for the hotel sooo I’m workin’ with them lol). I’ll take a taxi even if it’s stop n go- no need to worry about parking that’s for sure~

@BishopGraham – You’ll need to buy a ticket for your child.
Ohio people! I’m from Ohio, so I have a place in my heart for you. Can’t make any promises, but know that I understand what it’s like to live there and feel so far from cool stuff.
@Blaze – No, your Sonic Boom ticket will not get you on the shuttles. We’re a completely separate thing from Comic Con itself. If you’re looking for easy, I’d say a taxi is the way to go. I rode the metro to/from the convention from Mission Valley a couple years ago and it works, but a taxi is way more convenient. Glad you’re coming, and look forward to seeing your costume!

It would be cool to do a Q&A session type of event, and if you are already planning on doing something similar…
Would you guys be able to ask Mr. Yuji Naka how much involvement Mr. Michael Jackson had in Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s soundtrack? It would also be awesome if he could somehow point out specific themes he had worked on.
Come on guys, many have been asking about this for years! This is a very little known fact outside of the Sonic community so this would be a good opportunity to talk about it. Thanks for your effort as always!

@ Blaze – I’m familiar with the Hotel Circle *nod* you’re right, it’s kinda out there, but even if you walk, you won’t be the only person in costume in the streets π
Lucky you getting a paid hotel room, that’s the most expensive part about being in SD during Comic-Con. Even if taxis charge an arm and a leg, there are plenty other transport options

@ Jix Hedgehog
I’d beg to differ about the hotel being the most expensive (I didn’t go through Comic-con to get the reservation though)… No way I’m driving 6 – 8 hours down. I’m FLYIN’! … Though the best (refundable) plane tickets I could find…let’s just say of my friends that would be interested in going, I’m the only one with the ability to afford that.
I don’t have the best job either- but I’m paying more for the convenience of not driving, and the fact that it’s during peak summer season (because of Comic-Con).
So while it’ll take a few paydays to pay it off, it’ll be worth the trip and to get away~

Rock on, Sega. By the way, if chili dogs make it into the cuisine, you might want to put extra emphasis on where to find the restrooms. Chili doesn’t agree with everyone, you know.

As far as Comic-Con shuttles go, in all the years past they’ve never asked for proof of convention attendance to ride the bus. I would say you should be able to hop on board, especially if you just file in when a whole group is getting on.
Of course no guarantees on this, but I can’t see them suddenly changing their policy.

So wait do you have to be 21 to get in or is that just the bar thing and is Sonic Boom part of Comicon or a separate event?

Sonic Boom is an all ages event. There are two separate ticket types — one for over 21 and one for under — in order to distribute drink tickets for the bar. But the event is definitely all ages.
Sonic Boom is not an official part of Comic-Con. We are a separate event. Sonic Boom tickets will not allow you entry to Comic-Con, and you do not need a Comic-Con badge to get into Sonic Boom.
