A fine vintage, indeed: some great classics and collections are now on their way to both Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network! This selection includes both some all-time favorites as well as a few that have been very hard (or impossible) to come by.
All PSN games will be available individually. XBLA games will be available in several package deals grouped by title. Here’s a breakdown of what you get:
PlayStation Network
Release Date: May 22nd ($4.99 each)
Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Arcade)
Wonder Boy in Monster World (Mega Drive)
Monster World IV (Genesis/Mega Drive)
Super Hang-On (Arcade)
Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis/Mega Drive)
Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System)

Xbox Live Arcade
Release Date: 5/23
Monster World Collection (800 MSP)
Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Arcade)
Wonder Boy in Monster World (Genesis/Mega Drive)
Monster World IV (Genesis/Mega Drive)

Alex Kidd & Co. Collection (800 MSP)
Super Hang-On (Arcade)
The Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis/Mega Drive)
Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System)

Release Date: 5/30
Golden Axe Collection (800 MSP)
Golden Axe (Arcade)
Golden Axe 2 (Genesis/Mega Drive)
Golden Axe 3 (Genesis/Mega Drive)
Streets of Rage Collection (800 MSP)
Streets of Rage (Genesis/Mega Drive)
Streets of Rage 2 (Genesis/Mega Drive)
Streets of Rage 3 (Genesis/Mega Drive)

If you missed our write-up of some of these titles for the Nintendo Virtual Console, you can check them out here. Here’s some quick notes on what’s available:
- Golden Axe III was originally available only in Japan and on the SEGA Channel in North America (and never in Europe)! The final entry to the Golden Axe series on console expanded on the gameplay of the previous two, offering a wider variety of moves including blocks, sweeping attacks, unique character moves, and offensive & defensive special attacks.
- Monster World IV has never been released outside of Japan — the game is notable for being one of the first to feature a female protagonist.
- Super Hang-On is the arcade version — while we sadly cannot bring you the actual arcade motorcycle via digital download, we do recommend players rock back and forth on their couch as they play in order to simulate maximum arcade-style value.
- Golden Axe was terrific on all versions — even the Master System had great graphics, if a questionable frame-rate. But the Arcade version is included for a reason, and that reason is the ending — if you’ve never achieved it on your own, you owe it to yourself, as it was one of the great payoffs of the era.
- Lastly, Alex Kidd in Miracle World is representing the Master System: more than almost any other, this game gives an idea of the quirky, experimental, hybrid of adventure/action gaming that SEGA helped pioneer during the heyday of the home console.

What about a self-service of games?
Because…I like Golden Axe 1 and 2… but no the 3…Same as for other games…
Can I mix the games instead of pick a package?

Release Sonic 3 & Knuckles on PSN, pretty please?
It is disheartening to have such an awesome collection consisting of Sonic CD, 1, 2, 4 EP I and II. Something BIG remains right in the middle…

No Golden Axe for PSN? Makes me sad face.
If you want to make it up to me, arcade Revenge of Death Adder would be much appreciated, never got to finish that one… 😉

I’m only looking forward to Revenge of Shinobi on Xbox 360.
Too bad we can’t custom buy the game collections, I’d swap out Alex Kidd with Monster World IV.

Like Temporal173 said this pricing is too good! I’m planning on getting all of these games day one and yes, The Golden Axe ending is definitely worth it.
I hope that SEGA will have better pricing with Sonic 4 Episode 2 like they have with these games in the near future.

Nice!
But i allready own streets of rage and golden axe on xbox. Will i get new achivements for those games or will i have to pay 800msp for a collection with only two new games?

Why no bundles on PSN? THis means that I pay more for the three Wonder Boy games than I would on XBox…
Also:
Why is Wonder Boy in Monster Land not the SMS version?
Why no Dragon’s Trap (SMS or TG16 version)?

While finally having all three Golden Axes downloadable is awesome, I really hope you get around to releasing Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder from the arcade one of these days. I’d love to be able to play a legit copy of that.

Hi Sonic!
Will the streets of rage collection, with an improved netcode, be coming to psn soon? & not 4 years after the xbla release like streets of rage 2.
At the least can we have streets of rage 3 on psn?
thankyou.

Any chance we eventually will see Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap on PSN too? I think it’s very unfortunate that one isn’t included.
Streets of Rage 1&3 would be nice on PSN too.

Pretty please consider releasing Alien Soldier on Playstation Store? And as others have mentioned, it would be great if you released WBIII Dragon’s Trap as well – it’s head and shoulders about WB in Monster World. Thank you so much for Monster World IV! I bought it as soon as it was released today, and I am considering getting Alex Kidd.

I’d like to see a Fantasy Zone collection for XBLA, PSN and VC with the original arcade game, the Mega Drive game Super Fantasy Zone, and the System16 remake of Fantasy Zone II that was on the Japanese SEGA AGES 2500 collection on PS2.

If it were up to me there would be a Fantasy Zone collection everywhere, all the time, forever.
I don’t get to pick what comes out and what doesn’t but I’m happy to relay your feedback, and I’m a huge fan of Fantasy Zone.

Here I am again to ask you SEGA Staff for Phantasy Star generation:1&2 to be localised and ported to PSN (PS3/PSP) at the least. And maybe all of the AGES 2500 game series as well.
Come on, please, those games are as good as the vintage ones, they too deserve a chance…

As usual, these games are great, but most of them are not scarce. Sega practically invented 3D gaming in the arcades, and there were a few gems on Saturn. Those games (Virtua Fighter 2, the original NiGHTS, Fighters Megamix, ANY Virtua Cop) that need the exposure if you ask me. Please surprise us! Give us something exotic!!

Loved the Monster World Collection, each game got better as it went on but MWIV in particular was just incredible!
PLEASE release these for the PS Vita too, I’d love to be able to play them anytime and anywhere! All of the Vintage Collection games would be great on Vita.
Also, the quality of these ports and all the options were brilliant, like the customisation options for the controls (including remapping, rapid fire, even the thumbstick ‘waggle’ for Wonder Boy in Monster Land!), save options, screen settings, trials, the new manuals etc, all fantastic and that they had good trophy requirements was nice too. Please bring us more of these classics in their own neat individual releases

I don’t want Streets of Rage 1, 2 or 3 (though I did get the XBLA collection and beat ’em all again, for what it’s worth). I want some Streets of Rage 4 action. Yes, I posted the first comment in this news story in two months just to say that.
