Sonic 4 Episode 2 on Android: Powered by NVIDIAThose of you who are, or will be, enjoying Sonic 4: Episode 2 on your Android mobile device powered by the Tegra chipset, take heart: We’ve done our best to make sure the game is infused with the very best graphical power available! Using technology we can only assume was derived from Blast Processing, NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 chipset technology is currently powering Sonic 4: Episode 2. Using the same assets for this version as on consoles, the game has exceptional resolution and runs at a lovely 30 frames per second.* You can check the game out right now via Google Play — head here to find out more! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sega.sonic4ep2thd&hl=en *This may be important to know later on. So why does the Tegra 3 version of Sonic 4 Episode II use console-quality assets and run at 30fps, while my iPad 2 – whose chipset is comparable in power to the Tegra 3 – can’t pull off a stable 30fps despite the disgustingly lower-quality assets?

I tried the trail version on my HTC One X (Tegra 3 Device) and the game is incredibly choppy. it certainly doesn’t run at 30 fps. Any Idea why this is?

I played this on the Transformer Prime as well as my PS3 and was honestly stunned at how they basically looked and played exactly the same without almost any compromises. Sure Tails didn’t go transparent when you passed through him, there were maybe one or two shadow effects missing here and there, and the frame rate didn’t run at a perfect 30 from my personal play time (more like between 20 and 30), but it had amazing-looking models, light shafts streaming from the trees, and loads of lighting effects that were just spectacular. I could even hook my Dualshock3 via USB, and the Transformer would automatically know it was a PS3 controller and pair it via Bluetooth while also lining up the buttons to be used in games including this one. It even kindly automatically drops the on-screen control display when it detects a controller.
As to the notion of the iPad 2, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have a Quad-core CPU AND a 12-core GPU like the Tegra 3. If you want to talk about the “new” iPad, then that actually might be a little more comparable.

Well, I’ve been tryed to play Sonic 4 Episode 2 Trial on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (yep, it’s tablet with Tegra 2-chipset). And what I can say? It’s run on 20-25 FPS! I don’t use Chainfire3D, I’ve just flashed CyanogenMod 9 KANG and game has been worked!

After the little nugget dropped by someone today at a big discussion, I see where you’re going with that little footnote.
(knowing nod) Well played.
