Sonic the Hedgehog and the SEGA All-Stars Come to the Mac for the First Time

Sonic the Hedgehog and SEGA All-Stars are Coming to Mac!

Feral Interactive today announced that Sonic the Hedgehog and over 25 other fan-favorite SEGA characters are coming to the Mac this summer! Developed by Sumo Digital Ltd. and published by SEGA for consoles and PC, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing and SEGA Superstars Tennis will bring the world’s speediest blue hedgehog to the Mac for the very first time.

A star-studded line-up including Doctor Eggman, Tails, Shadow the Hedgehog, Alex Kidd and Super Monkey Ball’s Aiai will battle it out not only in single player and split-screen multiplayer modes, but also online using Apple’s Game Center technology, a feature of the next version of Mac OS X, Mountain Lion.

Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing sees Sonic and friends race cars, motorbikes and even a “bananamobile” across crazily inventive tracks inspired by the incredible worlds of the SEGA games. Players must find secret shortcuts and use hilarious power-ups to give them the edge, making Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing an exhilarating ride for family, friends and online challengers.

SEGA Superstars Tennis pits classic SEGA characters against each other across four smashing (geddit?) tournaments on totally outrageous tennis courts. Players can also put their racket skills to the test in twisted minigames inspired by classic SEGA titles such as House of the Dead, Space Harrier and Super Monkey Ball.

Pricing, system requirements, minisites, trailers and more details about Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing and SEGA Superstars Tennis for the Mac will be announced closer to the release date.

Food & Drink at Sonic Boom

Sonic Boom 2012

One of the changes that we made to this year’s Sonic Boom event is that we’re providing food and some beverages for all attendees! You may be wondering what foods we’re serving… well, wait no longer.

Attendees with age 21+ tickets (and proper ID) will receive 2 drink tickets that they can exchange for a drink at the House of Blues bar. All alcoholic drinks beyond the 2 drink tickets must be purchased in cash. We will be providing free bottled water and soda to all attendees.

We will have 3 different buffet stations for you to feast from at Sonic Boom. The first will have mini pizzas, including cheese, vegetable, and pepperoni. The second will have tacos with char-grilled marinated steak served on a corn tortilla and topped with cotija cheese. The third is a slider bar, with an assortment of angus beef mini burgers, pulled pork sliders, and meatball sliders.

And it wouldn’t be a SEGA event without some dessert (you guys know how we love our desserts), so we’ll also be serving assorted homemade cookies and cheesecake squares.

And now… a word about chili dogs.

We heard your feedback about last year’s Sonic Boom event not having chili dogs. We looked into it for this year. We really did. But we were limited by a few factors, including that the House of Blues does not have anything like a chili dog on their menu. And plus… chili dogs are messy. (Seriously — 1000 people, including children. Gaming stations.  Drink tickets. Things could get ugly.) I know that having chili dogs at Sonic Boom is very important to some of you, and you are disappointed that there will be none at this event. I’m truly sorry that we couldn’t make it work this year.

But nonetheless, we’ll have some great food, some great music, and a huge celebration of Sonic the Hedgehog. I hope to see you there!

Crush 40 will be playing live at both Summer of Sonic and Sonic Boom events, and special guests Jean Paul and Alex Makhlouf from Cash Cash will also playing live at Sonic Boom. Get ready to rock out to your favorite Sonic song with your fellow fans!

Sonic Boom 2012 will be held on Friday, July 13th, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM at the House of Blues in San Diego, CA (during San Diego Comic Con). Tickets are $20 each ($15 for the ticket and $5 for the TicketMaster fee) and include 2 drink tickets (for those 21 or older) and free food. You do not need a Comic Con badge to get into Sonic Boom. You must have a ticket to get in. Tickets are going quickly, so get yours today! You can purchase your tickets at http://bit.ly/IM9OoT

Summer of Sonic 2012 will take place in the Hove Centre, at Hove Town Hall, Brighton on Saturday, July 7th 2012. Tickets are available from the Summer of Sonic website: www.summerofsonic.com/

Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz Trailer

Super Monkey Ball - PS VITA

We’re pretty excited about the upcoming exclusive PS Vita release of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz on October 23 – the game is coming along nicely! We have a lot of familiar Monkey Ball features returning along with some fan favorites, as well as some new tech and new goodies to take full advantage of PS Vita.

YouTube Preview Image

Super Monkey Ball has always been built on the premise of accessibility and challenging gameplay – easy to pick up, difficult to master. We’ve made the transition for new players a lot easier, with a gentler difficulty curve in the beginning that helps you master the tough challenges that will eventually come your way. And don’t worry, we’ve got some punch in there for the veteran Monkey Ball fans looking for a challenge, from more varied levels with new routes and shortcuts, a higher degree of challenges, and the ever- popular minigames!

Super Monkey Ball - Banana Splitz

While the full game is built on personal challenges, the minigames have always been about multiplayer with your friends. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz enables both local multiplayer and online multiplayer over Wifi — a first for the series! We’re bringing back all the minigame hits too, from Monkey Bowling, to my personal favorite: Monkey Target. There are eight total modes to play and compete in, all of which leverage PS Vita’s unique hardware strengths.

SMBVita_Banana 1

We’re also making sure that Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz uses a lot of the built in Vita tech for controls across the mini-games and main game modes. You can use full tilt control to navigate the entire game or opt to play with the control sticks – it’s entirely up to you. My favorite feature of the game is the level generator that uses the camera – simply take a photo of anything and you’ll be able to craft a level generated from the photo. It’s pretty amazing, but wait, there’s more! The difficulty can be set by shaking the Vita device, the harder you shake, the more difficult the level becomes! Shake lightly and you’ll have an easier time – it’s entirely up to you. Pretty impressive and a lot of fun both in creation and playing the levels you’ve made.

There’s ton to do in the game and we hope you enjoy our newest trailer, featuring a lot of the same stuff I’ve talked about today.

Free Stuff Friday – June 15, 2012

On the Block

1. Sonic Shirt & Pin – A Turquoise shirt, size L, along with a 20th Anniversary Sonic pin.

2. Child’s Sonic Hoodie – A hoodie, child’s size L, full of Sonic!

3. Lanyard Pack – Set of 3 lanyards — Sonic, Sonic CD, and Jet Set Radio. Also comes with a SEGA-branded reusable shopping bag.

How it Works

1. You must be following us on Twitter to be eligible. (If you don’t have a Twitter account, you can create one by going to http://www.twitter.com and click the green “get started — join!” button in the center of the page.)

2. At random times on Friday, we will announce the prize we are giving away, a word or phrase, and what number of response you need to be to win. Send us a direct message (DM) via Twitter and be that number to win the prize. (@ replies do not count as entries!) We only accept one direct message per person per prize!

Example:

We tweet “GIVEAWAY: Sonic T-shirt, size L. Be the 15th person to DM “Sonic Adventure” to win!”

You see this, and want to win it, so you send us a direct message that says “Sonic Adventure”. If you are the 15th person to do so, you are the winner!

Quotation marks do not matter, capitalization does not matter, but spelling does matter!

3. All followers are eligible to win all prizes, unless a restriction is noted. Restrictions are usually due to the prize being region-locked. For example, US games that won’t work on UK gaming systems. There may also be age restrictions due to the rating of the game.

4. We will announce the winner on our Twitter feed once eligibility is confirmed.

Other Assorted Information:

  • Free Stuff Friday duties alternate between the London and San Francisco offices and are done during business hours (usually mid-morning) in our respective time zones.
  • No, you can’t know what number message you were – so please don’t ask! We will tell you that the information is classified!
  • If you have questions during the giveaway, please contact us with an @reply. As you can imagine, we get a whole lot of direct messages during the contests and there  is a very good chance we will miss your question if it is sent as a DM.

How to Send Direct Messages on Twitter

Due to a change in our account status with Twitter, you should be able to send us direct messages without us following you. However, third-party applications may not allow you to.

There are a few ways to send us a Direct Message on Twitter. The easiest way is:

  1. Log in to your Twitter account.
  2. Click on the person icon and select Direct messages from the drop down menu.
  3. You’ll see a pop up showing your Direct message history. Click the New message button, highlighted below.
  4. In the address box, type the name or username (SEGA) of the person you wish to send a message to.
  5. Enter your message and click Send message.

You may also select the “direct messages” tab from your Twitter homepage, and select SEGA from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. Again, if you don’t see our name there, it’s probably because we’re not following you. Let us know, and we’ll follow you. If you still have questions on sending direct messages, please visit Twitter’s Help Section.

There are also many Twitter clients that you can use instead of using the website. These include TweetDeck, Twitteriffic, Tweetie, and Twhirl. Each of these programs works differently, so you’ll want to figure out how to send a direct message on the program you use. If you want to send us a test message, we’ll let you know if we received it or not. Please make sure your message says “test” somewhere.

Test Your Sonic Knowledge at Sonic Boom

Sonic Boom 2012

Think you know everything there is to know about Sonic? You could get a chance to prove it, live on stage, at Sonic Boom 2012!

Once you get to the event, anyone interested in participating in trivia will be able to submit their name for a chance to be chosen. During the evening, we’ll pick 6 fans at random from those who submitted their names, and those lucky fans will be coming on stage to compete in Sonic trivia! We’ll be dividing fans into two teams (3 fans per team), and each team will be led by a special guest. UPDATE: I’m pleased to announce the captains of the trivia teams will be Ken Balough (Sonic 4 Brand Manager, SEGA of America) and Steve Lycett (Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Executive Producer, SUMO Digital). The questions will be multiple choice, and will vary in levels of difficulty. Teams will get 1 point for easy questions, 2 points for medium questions, and 3 points for difficult questions. At the end, the team with the most points will be declared the Sonic trivia champions!
