Dreams Do Come True! SEGA Announces the Return of NiGHTS into dreams…
On Tuesday, we posted this image to our SEGA Facebook and Twitter. While many people didn’t know what it was, there were also fans who knew immediately. It’s NiGHTS.
Today is a day that many NiGHTS fans have been waiting for. We’re so excited to announce that an HD remake of the fan-favorite flying platformer, NiGHTS into dreams…, will be coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Windows PC Digital Download this fall. To prove this news isn’t a dream itself, check out the first official NiGHTS trailer! 
“The SEGA Saturn offered many unique gaming experiences, and NiGHTS into dreams… stands out as one of the most recognizable titles that found a home on the system,” said Chris Olson, Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA. “We’ve gotten a lot of requests about this game over the years, and are very happy to be able to give both former Saturn owners and new players a chance to play it in its most beautiful form to date this fall.”
Initially released for SEGA Saturn 16 years ago today, on July 5, 1996, NiGHTS into dreams… is one of the best-regarded games in SEGA history and a favorite of many fans thanks to its innovative 3D gameplay and multi-faceted level design. This new version will bring Nightopia to vivid life with improved HD graphics and a 16:9 aspect ratio, as well as added support for leaderboards, trophies, and achievements. It will also feature an optional Saturn Mode that will let players experience the game with the original graphics intact.

Well, i have this game for the Saturn, so i am gonna buy just to help you guys. Anyway, good that you guys are bringing old games back, is a good way to take money from the fake fans stuck in the past, but please put a lot of effort into The Cave and Hell Yeah, new ips are the future. I want you to know that I will buy a new console, just so I can play! It won’t be the first time that NiGHTS has dictated which electronics enter my house.
I got my PS2 just for the Eyetoy, just so I could play Superstars with NiGHTS, and I got my Wii just so I could play Journey of Dreams! (in fact, I bought the game before I had the system!)
Thank you for keeping our dream alive, NiGHTS brought me through some very hard times.
It means a lot to know that SEGA hasn’t forgotten NiGHTS and what s/he means to so many of us.

Astal, you have a point and i respect, but at same time, i believe that the SEGA Saturn is the best console ever made, so even if doesn’t have the same graphics, just the fact that you play on the SEGA Saturn, the best console ever made, makes the Saturn version better.

Awesome! If this is the kind of thing we can expect out of ‘digital Sega’ then I’m totally for it. The BEST part about this is that at long last these classics are being treated with respect. Who ever is behind them seems to be considering what is right for each game and improving them with out taking anything from them and this is something I’ve wanted for such a long time.

It seems that the game is mostly based on the japanese PS2 release of Nights, which also had enhanced graphics, so as that one had it, I’m hoping for it too.

In all the years I’ve been playing video games, I consider NiGHTS to be the best game I’ve ever played. It’s encouraging to see the fans make a difference and make their dreams come true. I hope we can one day see the same thing happen for that other legendary Saturn game: Panzer Dragoon Saga. As awesome as NiGHTS is, it’s a lot easier to get hold of a copy of it than it is for Panzer Dragoon Saga, which is easily the best RPG I’ve ever played. And yet so few people got to play it.

I already have the original game for the Sega Saturn. This will just be an upscaled version of the graphically enhanced (redrawn textures, not upscaled) PS2 port. If I want the game with better graphics I’ll just buy the PS2 port which isn’t DRMed and tied to a shitty UI. I’m not a HD whore anyway.
Even if the graphics are better, it’s still the exact same game. Don’t kid yourself thinking otherwise.
I’m still waiting for Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity and Valkyria Chronicles III.

I am one of many dedicated fans and if you have a chance please take a look at my differences between the PS2 and the Saturn version. From the trailer it appears this is probably the PS2 version released for the 360 and PS3, so it would be great if you could make some improvements while you’re at it. Regardless I’m very excited!

YES! YES! YES! I couldn’t think of a more appropriate birthday gift for NiGHTS.
As a huge NiGHTS fan, especially being that it’s my favorite game of all time, I can’t personally thank you guys enough for this. Is there any word on whether this is going to include all the features of the PS2 remake, such as Christmas NiGHTS and the time-sensitive extras, or just the standalone NiGHTS experience? Of course, if you ever change your mind later down the road and decide to release it as DLC, I think a few of us would be willing to encourage you with teh moniez.
Totally buying this on PS3 and XBLA, btw. Would also snag this on Vita if you pull a JSR with this one.

I think a 3DS version of this would rock…then I could have a protable NiGHTS. I really don’t see myself going out and buying an xbox or playstation anytime in the future. I simply can’t afford it. I couldn’t even afford the Wii…the only reason I have one was because someone gave it to me. So put this on 3DS or Wii maybe, please? (I don’t care if it’s just a port of the original version. I can live without updated graphics.)

I hope it isn’t a complete let down like when people were claiming Sonic Adventure 2 was the “best game of all time!!11!!”
But since Yuji Naka was the programmer for this game, (or at least the original) I can safely assume I’ll have a great time with it.

I honestly want Nights on my Vita. It would make a perfect handheld game. Would go great with Jet Set Radio. Now all we need is Shenmue and Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean. A Remasterd Landstalker would be amazing also.

An honest surprise. Although it’s based on the Japan-only PS2 version, I always wanted to give that version a try. But the Saturn version had widescreen support (one of the few games that did, Panzer Dragoon Zwei comes to mind). Also, no forced widescreen would be nice for it.

i dont believe it! i was 20 y.o when i met NiGHTS ID for the first time.. cant wait to see revised NiGHTS ID afer that long time..

@ryan OH SHUT THE HELL UP. Do you realise how god dam lucky you are to even be able to get to play this mutha f++king game to begin with, in hd?! Its impossible to make a like for like in hd mode to compare exactly with saturn, because its remade on a completely different system, the ps2 that was from an entirely different generation of consoles.
SEGA is in its hour of need and is calling all its fans to support its heritage franchises to keep the company going and you act like some entitled brat, you are asking too much and should grateful you even get to play this on a current gen system. I have never been so angry at someone on the internet before like this. it sickens me, its people like you that made sega stop making consoles.

Made this announcement at pso-world. This is pretty awesome stuff. I’d get it again in HD even though I still have my Saturn, Nights and Christmas Nights (for which I finally opened all my presents after playing it for years and years..for which I only opened one or two presents each year).

I’ve loved this game since it first appeared in stores! I chose the Sega Saturn over the Playstation for this game, and never regretted it, even when the console died way too soon. I was so disappointed that there was no Nights sequel for the Dreamcast, though the Nights pinball sequence had me jumping up and down like a child! Of course I got the wii so I could play Nights, journey into Dreams, which I still play, but I’ve missed the original game so very much. I’ll be playing on Xbox Live, and prolly PC download as well, if I can see through the tears…::sniffle::
