SEGA and Creative Assembly Announce Partnership with Games Workshop to Create Warhammer Games
We are excited to announce that Creative Assembly (award-winning creator of the Total War series) and SEGA have entered into a multi-title licensing deal with Games Workshop to create videogames based in the Warhammer universe of fantasy battles. A new high-calibre development team has been set up at Creative Assembly’s UK studio to work alongside the existing Total War, Alien IP and Mobile teams on the first Warhammer title in the deal, scheduled to launch from beyond 2013. “With this year being our 25th anniversary,” said Tim Heaton, Studio Director at Creative Assembly, “it seems fitting for us to embark on such a dream project with such a well-established partner. The incredibly rich and detailed Warhammer world is something we grew up with, and has left an indelible imprint on us as both designers and gamers.” “We’ll be doing the Warhammer universe justice in a way that has never been attempted before. We’re bringing those 25 years of experience and expertise in extremely high-scoring games to bear, delivering a Warhammer experience that videogamers will absolutely love.” “We have enormous respect for SEGA and Creative Assembly and have felt for a long time that the combination of the enormously rich setting of the Warhammer world, and their stunning development talent is a match with huge potential,” said Jon Gillard, Games Workshop’s Head of Licensing. “Now that we’ve managed to bring these two giants of gaming together it is safe to say that some truly amazing products are going to be unleashed as a result. We are excited at the possibilities, and are enthusiastically working with the team at Creative Assembly already.” This first Warhammer game joins the eagerly-awaited Total War: Rome II and the untitled Alien IP as one of five projects currently in production at Creative Assembly, now one of the largest developers in Europe.

I could’ve sworn Sega was a Japanese company. Oh well. At least Atlus hasn’t started sucking yet.

I guess I meant that I want more Japanese style games from Sega? But even so, honestly, I think it was just way too early in the morning for me to be posting things on the internet. : O

No worries, JT. We’ve all been there …
Remember, this is coming from Creative Assembly, partnered with Games Workshop — CA has always done their own thing, in their own style. The games that will come out of Sega of Japan will definitely have a more “Japanese” style if that is what you are looking for.

True enough! I remember really loving Viking in the earlier days of this console generation.

Sega, if you f*** up this license, I swear to God, I will throw my Dreamcast out the window. No more Thor/Ironman etc. s***. This franchise deserves highest quality.

Pumpkineer: So if you don’t like the game you’ll destroy your own property? That would be kinda sad. Or is it supposed to be, like, symbolic and stuff?
Whatever your opinion about Thor or Iron Man, this is being done by Creative Assembly. It’s a different team. I have no comment about what kind of game they might make but I’m a huge fan of their work and I think there’s every reason to be excited for it … I mean, you don’t have to be, but I am.

Esss: I think you’re the only person who wants Sonic Chronicles 2. That game is utter garbage. Turn-based Sonic rpg with idiotic story and bad character design? No, thanks. Sonic needs an action rpg. Something like Sonic Battle, but with exp values. Hehe.
