Well dang it.
I don’t even know if my parents bought it for me at GameStop for Xbox 360 for Christmas. Hopefully they did. Or maybe I could find this at Walmart perhaps at the Toys section?

I’m glad you guys at SEGA finally released info on the toy… but it’s a month too late
Kind of makes me worried about future game releases and not picking them up on the release date in case something like this comes up

If only it was “…includes those who had already pre-ordered the game will also be able to pick it up.”
Even though I don’t play with my cars anymore, would’ve been cool to own one…

Congratulations on your new car purchase?
What? Oh! That promotion our dealership was running, yeah, yeah…the one we talked about a few weeks before we started selling this model…yeah…the “Free gas for 3 months!” thing…well, you may have bought the car the week it went on sale, but we only just started the promotion. Sorry sport! Hope you don’t feel entitled or anything, it’s not our fault you didn’t wait.

@JT Except that you get the car for free in the first place if you buy the game. But as others have said, the game has been out for nearly a month, and people bought it early for the bonus content. Buy the game and get this car for free, too. Own it already, you’re out of luck. That’s what people are upset about.
If this promotion marked the end of the Bonus Content shipments, that’d be another thing.
On the flip side, at least it’s not MVC3, or like countless movie re-releases with additional content than the previous release.

If you people arguing with me can’t see the absurdity of your argument then you all are indeed completely delusional. Take a step back and realize how actually “out of luck” you are by missing out on a 2 inch long die cast car.
Keeping in mind this car is also branded with Danica Patrick, and I would be incredibly surprised if the people complaining here about not getting a free Hot Wheels aren’t the same people who were complaining about Danica Patrick being in the game.
Also, to #15- Your example is not even remotely analogous to the “problem” of not getting a free Hot Wheels car. Getting 3 months of free gas has actual value, whereas a Hot Wheels car has virtually no value. You might as well be trying to argue that children dying of thirst in Somalia because they’re not getting free water is the same as you not getting a free Hot Wheels car.
Get real.
When things like this happen people should probably just say “Oh, a free toy car. Good for whoever gets it.” There’s absolutely no reason to be mad about what’s happening here. It’s not important in the least. It’s silly, it’s foolish, and it makes me embarrassed to be part of the “gaming community”.

So…the people who got Metal Sonic and the Outrun track early would’ve rather had the Hot Wheels Car?
Honestly I’d rather have the DLC, I can’t say I care enough to go out of my way to get the car.
I mean it’s already a solid title (across the board by various reviewers) that was put fresh on the market up to $20 LESS (depending on where it’s sold) than the usual retail price of most console games (not including hand-held prices), came with the first taste of DLC…and…people wanted…more for less (or in this case free).
…Am I missing something?
Is it really worth the ‘uproar’ unless you’re just that die-hard of a collector? (Of which, you’ll probably find it at an eBay near you no problem.)
They didn’t have to give anything extra away for free at all.

@Coconuts To be fair, I don’t think anyone said they’d prefer this over the Bonus Edition content or alluded to that in any way. It’s not ‘or’ but ‘and’. What has people upset or scratching their heads is the -timing- of this. It’s after a lot of people already went out of their way to get the Bonus Edition that something like this is announced. The value of the car aside, it could’ve been anything from a keychain to a hat instead and the reaction would’ve been the same (though the car is still pretty neat). Not disagreeing with any of the points you’ve made, but maybe that’ll help shed some light on the second question. In the end it’s really not that big a deal as you say, but it’s also important for those on the promotional end to anticipate how people will react, good and bad, and I’m sure they have.
But I can see the positives too. Maybe this’ll be a good incentive for those who haven’t decided if or when they’ll purchase the game, as well as those outside the Sega hardcore (not unlike Danica’s inclusion or certain PC characters). Arguments on that aside, if it helps game sales any, the game could use all it can get if Sega’s looking at this as their big holiday title.
Now if this were a perfect replica of the Daytona Hornet car instead, I’d be among the furious because that’s something me and many others would really, really want. Take note of the reception to a certain car in the game, Sega!
