Recently, Gearbox Software and SEGA sat down with journalists to walk through the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines. Journalists got hands on time with both the singleplayer and multiplayer sections of the game and they have a ton of new info to talk about.

Kotaku

Colonial Marines does a great job of mimicking the chilly atmospherics of the movies. The sound design was mostly quiet in downtime but the screeches of the Xenos and the bursts of the Pulse Rifles sounded “right.” Environments are appropriately dark and become oozy and throbbing as you enter the Xenos’ nests.

IGN

Gearbox’s game gets a lot of things right. It authentically weaves itself into the world established by Scott and extended by Cameron, but it’s perhaps the sound effects more than anything that really sell that illusion. From the unnerving, anxious beep of the motion tracker to the spluttering plasma rifle, the game sounds exactly like the movie. And the visuals aren’t far behind: you’ll walk down corridors and through rooms that look eerily familiar.

AVP Galaxy

I was pretty eager to get myself inside the remains of the colony, to see the current generation recreation of Hadley’s Hope. That said, as I explored the surface I found myself impressed with the little details. During the intervening time between Alien and Aliens we know that the Derelict ship was damaged by volcanic activity – so there I am, exploring the outside of the colony and I come across a plethora of cool things including an EEV from the Sulaco or the Sephora and huge gaping chasms to an active lava stream. It is not an in-your-face reference but the subtly made me smile.

Aliens: Colonial Marines may be a pretty typical asymmetrical multiplayer shooter at heart, but during my play session it accomplished something Left 4 Dead never could: it managed to keep its horror horrifying.

I just saw a post on FANGORIA.com that their preview will be in their upcoming issue #320 with their preview for Aliens Colonial Marines
