I was apart of the 1st gen of sonic gamers- watched both Sonic The Hedgehog and Adventures, Then never was able to Finish Sonic X (Missed Sonic Underground). 3 Things need to change with this show Already, Knuckles and Sonic are the Same Height- Keep it that way- Not Knuckles overall bigger. I dont care for the Eggman name- It was Robotnik in the US, and change from 11 minute episodes to exactly 30 minute episodes.

Are people REALLY complaining about shows like Gumball and Uncle Grandpa?
Those are actually the BETTER shows to come to cartoon network in recent years.. the shows that suck are Total Drama what ever… and Regular Show.. and anything live action.

I’d like to see it first before passing judgement but not sure since I already have some concerns.

The show might be good, but the design thing kind of bugs me. it’s not really a good idea to change the designs for the sake of fitting the stereotypical anime roles. one of the best features of the sonic character’s designs is the fact that they don’t blatantly scream “I LOOK LIKE THIS SO YOU CAN TELL THIS IS MY POWER/ SKILL!!”. Plus they looked just fine how they were. The aesthetics for the environments look good so why change the design if the dev team can obviously make some awesome CG? I don’t know who made this choice, but for the sake of having the Sonic universe not have another installment with a questionable art direction (Sonic ’06) change them back please. Just look at Lost World’s CG cut-scenes. Sonic looks amazing and that design didn’t come overnight. It came as a way to consistently keep Sonic cool/cute over the course of around 22 years. You don’t just throw that design out the window for a tv, show even for the sake of comedic value, as it doesn’t really add any . This may have worked for a normal cartoon style but not for a CG based environment. Either way I’ll check it out. I just hope it has good writing because that’s all that really matters. Like I said, who knows? Maybe it’ll be hilarious.

Sonic was always more interesting that Mario, and therefore had such a varied way of telling stories. It’s certainly different, being a “comedy”, but then again no matter what format or show he has been in previously there has always been that “comedy” or show off aspect to him. Could be interesting! Have to wait and see.

Do agree about the Knuckles comments, if that is really him in the shadow image. Really? Go back to the Sonic Team version!

I am excited but I will be approaching with caution. Maybe they’ll get it right and it’ll be awesome, but I don’t want to think about the alternative.

Most of the shows on Cartoon Network right now are great (Adventure Time, Regular Show, Total Drama) but shows like Uncle Grandpa and anything live-action need to die. Even if this new show doesn’t do well, it’ll still be far better than those.

Not sure how I feel about Knuckles’ new design. Maybe I’ll come to eventually like it, but right now I can’t see it. If there’s a valid reason behind it then I won’t complain, but for now they have some major explaining to do.

Anyway, I’m really excited, and I hope to see Shadow and Silver at some point, even if it’s just a cameo appearance.

I actually really dislike this.
SEGA. Sonic is a HERO. He’s supposed to do action-adventure-esque things, not sit on a couch with his friends and make corny jokes, not even lifting fingers to beat Eggman just because you want children to laugh and make Sonic more popular.

There’s too much of that genre on TV these days and it’s running real stale. If you gave Sonic an image like you did in Sonic X, Sonic Underground, The Sonic OVA, or any of the previous animated titles, then he’d be seen more like a rolemodel and not a comedian. I could of course have this all wrong but..
I just hope it doesn’t turn into Teen Titans GO or something of that nature.

But seriously I’m excited to see the character designs that will result from this partnership. And since it is on CN it should be pretty cool. Since the cartoon is so short (11- minutes) I’m guessing it’ll be more like a quick fix than a fully thought out storyline like the SatAM cartoon.

I completely agree with comment #37. While it may be interesting to see these new designs, right now I don’t think I’d want them to stick around. In my opinion the art direction (mostly due to what I can see of Knuckles) is extremely questionable. I’m actually kind of scared to see these designs… For fanbase reasons. If the designs must be kept for the show, please do not transfer the designs to the games… You’re working on making Sonic popular to new extremes, and changing his design [or his friends’, especially if drastically] I doubt is a good start. Mickey Mouse has overall stayed consistant, pretty much just having a “classic” and “modern” division like Sonic does. Just as with websites, fresh designs for established characters generally don’t do anything more than cause confusion and demand adjustment that may not be easy or desired. It’s not Sonic’s design that’s preventing him from excelling to superstardom. Largely I do believe it is the fact that you target young children as the audience rather than making the audience broader, perhaps “family”. People who have been sonic fans since the start are adults, and they should be able to enjoy the show as much as the kids. The kids are an extremely important part of Sonic’s audience, yes, and they should definitely be kept in mind at all times. But there are MANY teenagers and adults who are interested in Sonic as well, and could be more interested with balanced storylines and good enough writing. Then, of course, with the games as Sonic’s main street, it’s also vital for Sonic’s games to be fun, interesting, creative… and not too hard to learn the controls if the last game you picked up was Sonic Adventure or something. Without downgrading the “cool” gameplay elements that are newer, I think the usual basics of gameplay should still be there. “A (or X for sony systems)” for jump, “A+A (X+X)” homing attack… the usual stuff. The learning curve on stage/act 1 should not be frustrating, but the acts/stages should increase in difficulty as the game progresses to keep things interesting. An opening level that’s easy to pick up on but not TOO easy to get through is good by my standards. Make the lives system mean something, people are saying it’s gotten way too easy. =P
As someone else said too, Knuckles is strong. Everyone already accepts that, and he doesn’t need to be huge and muscular to prove it.
As a request from myself and Knuckles’ fans, Knuckles is a bad*** character, please don’t leave him brainless for the sake of comedy. He’s better than that.
And as for Amy………… I really don’t like her current voice. It’s so not her. :c Could you please have her voice actor do a BETTER 12-year-old girl impression that actually kinda sounds like a REAL 12/13 year old? (No offense… just Amy really doesn’t sound that good… You guys really need to stop swapping out the voice actors and just stick to a group.)

If that’s her dress, her hands are seem like they’d be positioned awkwardly. I could be wrong, but that’s just what it looks like to me. Then again, we’re all analyzing shadows, none of which are very clear except for Knuckles’, even if we still can’t see details.

I’m ….not sure about this….past sonic cartoons haven’t been particulary good at all…

The designs, aside from Knuckles ( So out of proportion and E123 omega-like, and damnnit he’s my fave!!!) seem okay, though sonic never really did look good with any clothes on (might want to lose that). I hope, if this series IS good, that they don’t just cut it off like they did with other shows, like Thundercats for example.

The target audience thing has me worried somewhat, though I am hoping they will try to cater to older sonic fans, like myself, also and not just todays empty-headed youth who only seem to like loud noises and bright explosions. If they do that I will be happier!

But….still not liking knuckles….He’s like ….erm..what they did to Panthro in the 2011 Thundercats. Very little like the old one, shoved into a steryotype cliche, out of proportion body compared to the rest of the cast ( and rather horribly too) and jsut designed to pay homage to too many other characters rather than the one he was supposed to be like……….in fact you know what? Knuckles will be the train-wreck character just like Panthro and will cause upset for a whole heap of people with things like his design, attitude, probably get shoved into a cliche steryotypical role and damnnit I’m already upset!!!

Excuse me while I go cry in under my bed for a few weeks.

I’m rather sceptical. I cannot understand how the same Sega who asked Archie’s Metal Sonic to keep having his robot like personality when fans we’re clinging to hope that Metal would show us more emotion, BECAUSE of inconsistencies with the games. How did that same Sega approve of a Cartoon in which every character and his parrot got a redesign, I really do question your logic Sega, you disapprove of a personality within a comic book but when it comes to redesigning the entire cast for a TV show you give it your thumbs up.

I’m not here to question if the show will be good or not, it may even be pretty darn sweet, but these things really do baffle me.
All in all, I’m very disappointed to learn of these redesigns, I sure pray to god the characters don’t end up looking as bad as the silhouettes.

ok sega, i am a huge fan of sonic, but while this has potential as most people have said, i can already see knuckles is butchered (first strike), sonic appears to have some extra spines that are more thin than the rest taking away from modern sonic’s cool look (second strike), and while i can’t see anything immediately wrong with tails and amy, i hope the voice actors remain the same as the game, i hated when the actors changed the first time and still kinda do, but dammit sega don’t do it again. another thing “target age group 6-11″?… really, if i asked 10 six year olds who sonic the hedgehog is i think most would look at me with a confused face, i think your age demographic could do with a bit of expansion so fans of the old shows and classic games can find some enjoyment and maybe throw in some subtle throw backs to the classics for nostalgia sake. also please stop adding new characters… im pretty sure everyone had the same question in sonic adventure when he appeared “why is he even here, he doesn’t add anything”, granted having him voiced by duke nukem was cool but still, and lastly, please don’t turn this into the “sonic 06″ of sonic’s media career, so no human/hedgehog relationships, no gaping plot holes, and good voice acting, please sega, don’t butcher sonic, i don’t want to see my childhood die

Actually, as far as I can tell from the silhouettes, the designs look pretty okay. I like Sonic’s quills. I hope Amy’s got some pants on. ;P

But Knuckles, what the heck happened to him? Yes, he’s strong, he’s a powerhouse, but he’s also svelte, not a dang bodybuilder. And he’s only a few inches taller than Sonic, not a mile. Can we tone him down please?

These new designs are very. . . interesting. I’m not going to say that they’re bad, because they’re JUST SHADOWS. They could turn out really cool.

I’m just trying to keep a positive outlook on this whole new situation. I’ll keep an eye on it, but I don’t plant to get attached to anything just yet. I don’t wanna be disappointed if the show is a really bad one.

This kind of scares me… If they’re making this for ages 6-11 than that means they might throw out a lot of the original stuff since kids that age wouldn’t have know that much about sonic. Some people are freaking out about how sonic looks like he’s wearing a vest, but I think that would look kind of cool. That combined with the shaggier hair kind of reminds me of Jules from the Archie Comics. Something else that irks me is the fact that they say that there will be returning villains to this besides Robotnik. I have no doubt that this means they will try to make Shadow a bad guy dispite the fact that Shadow has always been a hero and a good person, even if he shows it in unorthodox ways… As for Knuckles… I’d prefer not to say…

Really tired of everyone freaking out about Knuckles – there’s no problem with the design, everyone is just complaining because it strays from the norm. I for one things it fits him better with his tank-like, rivalry personality and balances the relationship between himself and Sonic physically.

Wow… Knuckles is huge. I’m curious to see how the actual character designs will turn out when we finally get to see them. I can’t fully judge just by looking at shadows, so I’ll wait and see what the actual designs look like before giving my real opinion.

I actually like Sonic’s new design.They added a little more quills on Sonic’s head to make it look more spikey like a real hedgehog.Amy and tails seems the same and hopefully tails is still cute and still his adorable self and Amy still annoying and still trying to win Sonic’s heart.Im a little scared about knuckles though.I wonder what he will sound like and….how the hell did he get so big?Maybe the design for Knuckles will be good or really bad….I guess we all will find out in the future.Im really am looking forward to seeing this! Ok so im looking forward to this because now ill at least have something to watch. I watched the original sonic the hedgehog adventures, sonic underground, and sonic X. I also have most of his games because i literally grew up loving sonic so this is exciting for not only me but most fans. Now…you are going to RUIN it with those rediculous character designs. It was cool for the new TMNT but it won’t work for sonic. Sonic has gotten a new look in the videogames since Sonic X that people so far have really liked. USE IT. When you stray away from the things that have always been the same people begin to hate horribly. If you keep whatever those things are in the shadows and also don’t include other character like chaotix, shadow, silver, blaze, cream, etc. This will end up being another “The last airbender movie” for sonic as it was for Avatar. And you all know that was a disaster

I’ve seen Sonic the Hedgehog since i was kid and grew fond of the series. The one character that i hope is the same, is Tails. He is my favorite character after all, i prefer that he stays as the best friend of Sonic and does not lose his kindness, Ambition, and love for machines. I hope Sega knows what they are doing, I don’t want them to ruin their reputation. There is some greatness coming from this TV show, But i notice some changes that have been done with Knuckles that i didn’t like. To all the people that that think that this should be aimed at ~the TRUE and HONEST ORIGINAL fanbase~, you guys are adorable. Keep this in mind, just because something is aimed at a certain age group, it doesn’t mean that others can’t enjoy it.

I’m curious to see what everyone’s final designs look like. Everyone looks really awkwardly proportioned (with the exception of maybe Tails).
Sonic’s quills look… interesting. I hope he looks better in motion.
Knuckles looks like he could topple over if you so much touch. And to everyone asking where his quills are, they’re most likely behind his monstrous biceps. Jokes aside, wanting to make Knuckles’s body not just a recolored Sonic’s is understandable especially since he has fingers in his gloves now, which is ok in my book. The whole mitten thing seems very inefficient, ha ha.
Amy’s head looks huge. I’m guessing they want to make her look more ~kawaii~.

I’m actually really glad (Again) to be seeing another Sonic cartoon. I remember the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog back in the ’90s, and really missed those.

O mai, I am just SO excited!~

I remember reading about the makings of this show a couple months ago, and I was literally like “No WAY!~” hoping that they will air it on Cartoon Network simply because it would make much more sense than the HUB or Disney. And they totally chose CN!~ They also said it might be Flash-animated. And then, I recently found out it was going to be CG animated?! Lovely!~ My excitement and eagerness, it was over 9000…

Hehe, I hope and pray this show will be worth the year-long wait, I don’t think my patience can last any longer~
So SEGA, don’t screw this one up!~

I’m worried that it will be on Cartoon Network. Some of their cartoons are okay but others cast bad influence on kids or are just plain stupid. As for the disigns, Knuckles worries me. He looks like Thrash from the Sonic Archie Comics. Hopefully we aren’t stuck with them wearing clothes cause it would look stupid. Plus it would be nice to Shadow. Don’t hate me for wanting the “recolor” but they did say old enemies. They could easily introduce him as a enemy that isn”t under Eggman or whatever they decide to call him. I’m a little worried but if it does turns out good it will be a plus for Sega and the Sonic franchise.

I think the new designs are…horrible, but the style of the show itself looks good, I think they should definately bring cosmo back, and sonia and manic, maybe sally, and just…make it something worth watching for reasons other than “it has sonic in it” with acurate behaviour. There was sonamy in sonic X and that was bad. If they include Shadow (which I scincerely hope they do) he better not be a villan. They shouldn’t put new hero characters in, we have enough already, but they should definately include as many as they can, even if it’s just cameos, and with amy, they need to put cream in because they’re best friends. If knuckles and sonic don’t fight at all then…well, I’ll watch it because it has sonic in, but it better have a meaningful story arc.

I hunk what their doing in the necessity of this is for kids to just see and have kids enjoy the cartoon on its regular shown basis what I’m concerned about is that:1. They completely changed the look of knuckles and made him look like he’s too buff and looked like he’s been on too much of a workout method I think keeping knuckles at his original Archie look would be a little more necessary because there’s a lot of people arguing about this predicament, also as for sonic his quills look a Tad short and looks like he has extra quills for Amy I cant tell if she’s wearing her original dress as it shows on the sonic X series but she looks normal to me so does tails

2. Since this is going to be in CGI, don’t put fur and hair on any characters, please!

“Sorry in advance for any wrong grammar” Hint: Long Review…

I have a great anxiety for this sonic series. As I can see there is a lot of excitement and in contrast a lot of doubts on this new CG cartoon style. The comedic style has a chance to be “good” , but I think the more serious, light heart, insightful, but playful, the better it is.

I would like to see the characters interact in their similar style, and have their recurrent attitude, like Sonic. I hope it is true to the games and has references to other Sega or Sonic Team spin-offs. The 3D-CG can be awesome, however my 80 – 90’s NOSTALGIA for 2D cartoons that were drawn out, had a good plot, shared some laughs, and in all gave good quality and a good amount of action and detail. Knuckles’ – OVER 9000!!! – form is kind of awkward, being a long sonic fan and having played most-to-all of the Sonic the Hedgehog Games since STH_1 on Genesis. Please just be a test or practice models of the characters – Original suites them, just as a opinion, but a little hints of changes can be benefiting. (it can just be weird or false to viewers when the characters look different thank what it is for them to look like)

My lasting problem: if it is going to turn out like some cartoons that are produced now… I know someone can shell out a couple of shows that they think are good, some I may or may not agree with. But the quality in the shows now are going down, and I am not watching TV as much as before in what I think was the “golden day” of cartoons (1980 – 2008). I hope it could be as good as Duck Tales, TAofSTH or STH-SatAM-with Knothole, the older loony-tunes, Captain Planet, Johnny Bravo, Dextor’s Lab, Thunder Cats, other commentator’s suggestions, super-hero animations, and shorts that were loved. They all had imagination and creativity. (Before they either ended or were CANCELLED – the faith of most good cartoons sadly, but interestingly…). If the generation of today can just get a taste of how good the cartoon style was before, I can feel good about the future innovations in animations to come. Sorry, but some of the things I see on TV on popular networks now are become lack-luster, interesting, or work-propelled in these current years going by. (the world now these days..) They are either to comedic, do not make any sense( or stupid), do not have a plot, may have “decent” animation ,but fails to convey thought or detail, do not convey a pretty good lesson, waste of time often, maybe a laugh here and there, but the HEROES or MAIN CHARACTER are not much heroes or have a significant detail…(Not really including Regular Show, once the AVATAR, TMNT, interestingly, but not half bad, My Little Pony, a little Gravity Falls, and a very small, but declining amount of others…)

However, make this one a show to remember, the BLUE BLUR at his best, and including his top-notch and interesting friends. Make it so that me and many others can share the anxiety, nostalgia, and awesomeness that can be produced in ground smacking 3D CG. Show the generation of the world that were maybe brought up with cartoons we see now, how good they were back then, how Sega and the Sonic Team can make a masterpiece once more, and what a adventure should really be… And also to make your parents subconsciously hang over you suspiciously, watching the show in awe or interest…lol…well that would be weird..uh, well anyways –

Everyone just calm down, my god. With all of the character design reactions Amy, Sonic, and Knuckles have been getting, I dont think there going to stick around for long. The show isnt coming out for another year so SEGA will have plenty of time to make their final character adjustments. Amy and Sonic honestly look fine, Knuckles on the other hand………..yeah lay off the steroids….Im actually looking forward to this cartoon and hoping SEGA can attract a new audience, its about fucking time we have a new Sonic show to increase the fandom. 2 things im worried about but hoping these arent official: 1. the designs, obviously 2. The genre and age rating, Humor and ages 6-11 honestly does not sound very good. SEGA is trying to hard to turn Sonic into a comedical laugh as seen in Sonic Colors and even a little in Lost World, but Im hoping they can direct the future games and this show toward adventure and action with a little humor here and there just like old times, its what really seemed to work with all those picky fans. Other than that the idea and animation looks pretty decent, glad to see some old and new characters return, and I hope SEGA can make this show a good one. I dont care if this show is humilating, crude, or plain stupid to watch, ANYTHING is better than fucking uncle grandpa!! Oh and Im hoping they rehire Griffith to voice Sonic and Shadow

Ugh, I know this is based off the Games but come on. sonic’s design looks like Uncle Chuck, Knuckles is just one big NO (he doesn’t even have his mittens!) and something about Amy looks off to me Tails is the only normal looking one.
I have no problem with the STYLE in which they are animating the show, but don’t murder it with these drastic re-designs. please.
Also, I like a good comedy and I do admit Sonic is a funny guy, but Sonic the hedgehog is not just comedy based. and you seemed to get that in the article. It still worries me a bit though.
I hope you release a demo or something (more than just some vague shadows on a wall) and take advice from the fans, because chances are you’re going to have a lot of long time fans watching and waiting.

Knuckles and Sonic look all wrong… Knuckles is to buff… Sonic had to many Quills and It looks like he is wearing clothes… Sega should have just continued Sonic x… But added new characters like Silver and Blaze….. Amys new voice is horrible, Sega should have kept with the Sonic x voices really, all in all… Sonic boom doesn’t look to good, unless this is a troll and a new screenshot will be out and they will look much better

Don’t knock the new knuckles or sonic design yet. Realistically, it fits sonic is more spiny and the speedy sharp spike ball. Knuckles is a guardian if he was as strong as the comics make him he should be that big, and it always pisse me off how he didn’t have fingers. Knuckles can kick sonics ass in a cage match; it only makes sense that he’d be a little more jacked (as a guardian should be)

Also scourge, team dark/g.u.n better be in the show. And of course metal sonic and maybe snivley
