FrancoJam – Epic Game Jam in Memory of a Friend at Creative Assembly

francojam

This weekend the staff of Creative Assembly (home of Alien: Isolation and the Total War games) are staying up for 48 hours straight to compete in ‘FrancoJam’, a game jam event in memory of our much missed colleague Simon Franco, who passed away suddenly in June from cancer.

Simon was a huge fan of game jams, where small teams compete against each other to make the best game in a ridiculously short space of time. So we’d like to honour his memory by holding our own and attempting to raise as much money as we can for the Millbridge Ward of the Royal Surrey County Hospital, who cared for Simon in his final days, as they do so amazingly for many individuals and their families.

To help us do that, the Total War community team (and friends) will be live streaming alongside for 48 hours too; playing some of the games Simon worked on over the last 10 years, catching up on the progress the Francojam teams are making over the weekend and running exclusive auctions and giveaways of gaming goodies.

Watch all the action, live, over the weekend from 5:30pm GMT today at: http://www.twitch.tv/totalwarofficial

More about Simon and FrancoJam

Simon Franco was a dear friend and colleague to many here at CA who sadly passed away this June. He was a Senior Programmer on Alien Isolation as well as having worked on many Total War games over his 10 year employment with us.

Simon was a big Magic the Gathering enthusiast, with a passion for creating retro games in spare time as well as being a dedicated father who sadly didn’t get to meet his youngest daughter before he passed. He was positive, kind and always had a time for anyone that asked for it.

We were all deeply saddened by his sudden passing earlier this year and to commemorate his life, work, and passion for retro gaming we’re hosting a weekend-long game jam in his honour.

FrancoJam will pit small teams of CA staff members against each other in a two day contest to create a whole game. The judges panel will consist of Simon’s close friends and family as well as Sprungdigi ambassador Darius Hawkins who will influence the theme of the event.

The theme will be announced on Friday evening at 5:30 GMT as the event kicks off.
