SEGA & SONY Partner to Launch Yakuza 5 in the WestToday is a very special and exciting day for all of us at SEGA. Partnering with our friends at Sony Computer Entertainment America, we just revealed our plan to bring Yakuza 5 to the U.S. and Europe at PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas. We also announced that Yakuza 4 and Yakuza: Dead Souls are available on PlayStation Network starting today.
We’ve received so many requests from our fans to bring Yakuza 5 to the U.S. and Europe. Yakuza 5 also made the top of the list of Sony’s #BuidingTheList campaign led by Gio Corsi at Sony Computer Entertainment and we were moved by all the support given to Yakuza 5 by the PlayStation community. Yakuza 5 continues the epic story of Kazuma Kiryu alongside four other protagonists, following their struggles and conflicts in the seedy underbelly of Japan’s Yakuza underworld. Featuring a new graphics engine versus its predecessor, Yakuza 5 takes players to five major Japanese cities to venture through a life of crime and power. Yakuza 5 features more mini-games than previous titles, a modified battle system as well as enhanced customizations and interactions in the signature hostess bars of the series. In addition to these features, Yakuza 5 also introduces “Another Drama” which is a series of side stories that focus on each protagonist in-depth and are separate from the main story of the game. Allow me to also share messages from Toshihiro Nagoshi, the Executive Director of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and the General Producer of the Yakuza series and Masayoshi Yokoyama, the Producer of Yakuza 5.
Yakuza 5 will be available exclusive to PlayStation 3 via PlayStation Network in 2015. Please stay tuned for more information on Yakuza 5!

Please make a physical edition. It can be limited online sale, retail, or whatever. We’ve been waiting for this for so long, but not to buy it in digital format. The very people that have been campaigning so ardently to make this available in the West are the people who want to buy a boxed version; it would be foolhardy to merely release it digitally, when the people you are bringing it over for want to buy it in a physical format. Please, make this available for your fans.

Don’t thank SEGA. Thank Sony Entertainment America for taking a risk and publishing the game. SEGA is so risk adverse that they didn’t even consider localizing 5 after Dead Souls (which was a horrible game BTW) did so poorly. I hope that Sony decides to make the Yakuza franchise a 1st party franchise in the west and publish all future titles here. Yakuza Restoration would be a great PS4 exclusive in the glut of actual exclusives for the system.

Thanks for releasing Yakuza 5 in English! I will no doubt purchase the game regardless of my next request, but PLEASE make a physical version available! If there is an audience willing to purchase Hatsune Miku on PS3 physically so to will the Yakuza fanbase!
Keep on bringing the games SEGA, there are too many that we Western fans don’t get to play anymore since they never get translated for English audiences – keep the games coming, and I’m sure you’ll see people come as long as you market them well and build the hype!

HOLD IT
PlayStation Network Only?
Then it’s not going to sell well, GRANTED.
Remember this is not Valkyria or Skies of Arcadia or Shenmue with a LARGE FAN BASE.
It’s a Japan’s favorited title that would only appeal to a specific range of gamers,
You got to be smart- market it well- release both on disc and digital.
Plus Why not PS4? Why not pack it with Yakuza 0 and release it as an ultimate pack called
Yakuza 0+5 as one game for PS3/PS4 would sell better.

I just bought Yakuza 4 and Yakuza Dead Souls again on PSN just to show my continued, undying support for this series. I’m on my third semester of Japanese because I was about to lose hope…
While a physical release and 1+2 HD/Yakuza 0 would be terrific too, I’m very thankful we’re getting 5 at all!
Thank you!!!

A limited Physical copy of the Yakuza 5 would be much more appreciated over the digital because its over 25GB of data to download on PlayStation Network. Some of us have a limitation on how much data we can download from our internet providers. Also all my previous Yakuza games are disc based. I will always prefer my games physical over digital any day. Please make this happen SEGA and SONY. As a loyal Yazuza fan. Once again I am very happy that we get to play Yakuza 5 finally in the WEST.

THANK you so much! However, PLEASE consider a physical version. 20GB is a lot of space for a PS3 HDD.

Great news. Now I can sell my still unopened Japanese version box copy. Please do a compete, Yakuza 4-style port (as in retain as much as possible). I will buy it, but please extend this partnership to the other unreleased/yet-to-be-released Yakuza games (Isshin, Yakuza Zero, Kenzan), otherwise this effort will prove to be a waste of time as a one-off. I’m fine with only digital if it means that more Yakuza games will come to North America.
And could someone PLEASE convince the Yakuza team to either finish or integrate the Shenmue franchise, since it appears that Yu Suzuki never will? Yakuza is the modern version of Shenmue, Sega needs to do something with this series while there is still a demand for it.

Cool news, real fan service. Time to dust off that PS3 next year!
Now SEGA, please do the same for the Shenmue series. That was the game that made the top of the list you mention. Thank you in advance!

And fans of the series, let’s get as many people to buy this game! It’s our duty to make the series stay in the west, and get Yakuza 0!

Dear SEGA, I couldn’t be happier about the confirmation of a western version of Yakuza 5. A physical release would be the icing on the cake; otherwise, even a patch for those who bought the boxed japanese release would be a great idea. Anyway, thanks for the news, it really made my day!

Thank you very much for this, I wish playstation would make it so it can port over onto ps4, but that’s their choice to make it they don’t want to encourage me to buy their newest system. This game is amazing and I’m glad to see it coming. Anyone who has ever played them knows about it and anticipates the next release. When you release yakuza 6 why not make a subtitle language choice and avoid the delay. Maybe do direct sales outside of Japan? Thanks again

Junior – for starters, to ‘just put subs’ is an incredible amount of work and requires huge technical skill to achieve. The total text in Yakuza 5 is more than the bible. I suppose one could just run it through google translate, but that would result in a pretty awful experience for all involved.

Next, will you release Kenzan, Ishin, and Place of Oath as a bundle with a volume discount? I would prefer physical releases as there is only so much space on my Playstation 3’s hard drive. Nevertheless, the digital medium is preferable to importing a copy.

1:20 am, I just finished the first Yakuza, I know I’m 10 years late but what a game.. I’ve had it for 5 years but have been afraid to play it for fear of it not living up to my memories of Shenmue 1 & 2. It was a fantastic thrill ride. I already have purchased 3 and 4 but would love to play 2 but looking on the used market it is going for nearly $100. Please Sega please localize the HD remaster collection you have released for PS3 in Japan, or even localize them individually I would definitely purchase it if it was available from you, rather than pay exordinant collectors prices…

After playing a Marathon of yakuzas 1, 2, 3, 4 & Dead would I am all set to play 5 once it comes out. I don’t even care that it’s only for psn, I’m happy enough just to be getting the game, even if it comes out on disk at a later date I’ll totally pick that up, I don’t mind buying a game twice. I’m not asking for every other game in the series but if the game sells well may I ask that you guys atleast consider localizing Yakuza 0? and maybe the HD Collection too? In the end thank you very very much!!!!!!!

Thank you for giving Yakuza 5 a chance. In the future a Yakuza PS4 collection would be a good idea for Yakuza 1-5. It could help introduce new fans to the series since having to own three consoles to play the full series can put off newcomers. In a series like this where the story matters so much being able to play from the beginning improves the experience a lot.
