SEGA Mobile Game ClosuresAt SEGA we are committed to making fun, high-quality mobile games and it is with our fans’ best playing experience in mind that we announce the removal of a number of games from our back catalogue. It is important for us to ensure that all of our fans, regardless of platform or operating system, have a great playing experience and after evaluating our complete list of titles, we have determined that a number of them no longer meet our standards. As a result, we will be removing these titles from the App Store for Apple devices, the Google Play Store, the Samsung App Store and the Amazon App Store over the next few weeks. While we have nothing to announce at this time, given the right situation, these titles may return in an updated form. If you have already purchased a game that is being removed from the store you will be able to continue to play it after it’s been taken down. It will remain in your purchased apps where you will be able to download it again if you delete it or acquire a new device until the game becomes incompatible with the latest phone operating systems or hardware. Thank you to all our customers for sharing what they love about our games and helping us to continue to improve everything we make.

SEGA moving towards mobile gaming and deleting mobile games from the stores. If people want to buy them, why don’t let them do it?
And yeah, which games are we talking about?

Even though Sonic Racing Transformed is relatively recent, it’s starting to not work on several newer phones or versions of Android. I’m running Xperia Z1 and since I upgraded to Lollipop, the game just showed a black screen, so I wonder if even that might be included.
I also read Jet Set Radio is a bit flakey on phones.

Please organize your processes so you can keep games updated. Perhaps keep a small team that will keep the game up to date when not on another project.
You guys didn’t update your games so of course they “don’t meet your standards”. This is a confirmation that you have no intention of doing it in the future either. When I see a game with low ratings cause it doesn’t support 4″ screens, or doesn’t have iCloud saves, or MFi controller support, I don’t buy it.
These are classic games that people want to keep playing. When will you re-release these games again? Probably only when a new platform comes out and you can get a sale from the same customer again.
I feel that if you update your games they’ll be better reviewed, written about in blogs more, shared by word-of-mouth, etc and you’ll see more sales.
It also hurts your brand in the eyes of your most faithful customers when you don’t update games, or remove games. Please try improve your integrity with customers because it is getting very low and you’ll lose your most dependable customers. Put more effort into your IP and brand image, they are all you have.

Yeah, SaSRT is just a black screen for me so you’re not the only one. Really sucks though.

EA has a site dedicated to telling us the games they’re planning to close or have closed.
Yet here you are being all sneaky about it, how does it benefit anybody by not telling us the games?

Wow…. So you can’t even list what games are being taken off? This is the stupidest thing I’ve read in a long long time.
“Updated form” probably means what you did with your recent Crazy Taxi app… Freemium nonsense!
Why not instead make these old games free with a little disclaimer saying that they’re no longer being updated, so if they don’t work, they won’t work? Worst case scenario, some people get some great free SEGA games, and the rest of the gaming community won’t think you’ve lost your minds.

House of the Dead Overkill The Lost Reels seems to have already gone from Google Play store, not sure if that went recently or not.

You know, it’d be good if you had a list of which games you’ll be removing instead of being vague about it.

Wow, I’m suprised. There are some harsh comments here. I’m trying to understand, you guys had plent of time to buy these games, now why are you pissed of about it? The PR guys that are reading the comments don’t have anything to do with it.

The point is, sadly, that SEGA has become a total joke of a developer… And it’s announcements like this even more so than the actual decision to do so that make them so laughable.
They’re not even capable of updating their own games to be compatible with evolving hardware… Hell, they don’t even try. They just decide to take games down… Games their customers have already paid for, which should work, or at least be updated in an attempt to get them working…
It’s really sad what SEGA has become… And not just in the mobile world.
They’re just churning out rubbish money-making shovelware… Which might not be so bad if the games were actually good. But they’re not.
I used to get excited by seeing “SEGA” on a game… But it’s complete poison now.

I can’t believe I’m seeing people being surprised that SEGA are incompetent. This company has been effectively dead for well over a decade, vomiting out half-baked attempts to get people to care about Sonic.

SEGA, are you in the right mind?! Not only you did not let us know WHAT games you’re going to remove (so at least people who want them could buy them before removing – last big cash from them games, you know?), but you also removed some of the BEST of your games. Really, SEGA? Really? It’s better for your reputation to restore AB Climax and JSR in Google Play. Otherwise, only way for your potential consumers to play them will be pirating. You really do not want money, sega? Even Sonic 4 is still there! But not JSR.
Too bad, SEGA. Too. Bad.

Mobile games are about the only option left for SEGA as there are already too behind in the video console market. http://cronikgamer.com/news/alien-isolation-sold-more-than-1-million-copies/ has details all some of SEGA’s latest games and collaborations.

I find it pretty dumb how Sega never told us (their loyal customers) what mobile games they were removing and we had to find out for ourselves. Come on Sega you can be better than that.
